It looks like no in-store pick up either though I'm pretty sure I saw the maracas for sale at my local Best Buy.

Sounds good but I have a question, are these the "official" maracas or some generic knock off brand? I don't want to buy this game and have cheap maracas that may or may not work properly, thanks.

There weren't official maracas. Besides, the maracas just attach onto standard Wii controllers and so functionality shouldn't be an issue.

These aren't like the old Dreamcast ones. You use Wiimotes as the maracas and these are just plastic noise makers that slide over the Wiimotes. I don't think there is an "official" brand and it shouldn't matter as they are just plastic shells with beads in them.

I'm not sure how much truth there is to it, but this guy claims that the maracas tilt the wiimotes ever-so-slightly, making the game a bit easier to play.

I recommend you don't. The control just doesn't work. You will not be happy playing. I was not happy playing. I wanted to be happy. I tried. I failed.

You can get a discount if you order both Maracas and the game on Amazon, but it isn't this cheap. Great point that you really need 2 sets of Maracas. At least you can get those seperately from Amazon for $10.

So basically $30 + some tax (BB is free ship on this promotion) for this plus 2 sets of plastic that makes noise. Tempting. I have the game from GameFly right now and I am definitely having control issues, but I haven't studied it too hard. What are the known control issues? I have trouble with the ones at the top.

I'd agree that the game is easier to play with the maracas for some reason...

I feel really dumb for paying $39.99 + $5 for the maracas for this game about 6 weeks ago. I knew it would drop but not THIS much THIS fast.. (and I thought the maracas would be hard to find after a short time) although we did have a good time at Thanksgiving with the game so I guess that's what counts. :)

Thanks, Josef! I went in for a set. I had a $10 gift card, so it came out to just over $11 because of tax.. Great deal!

I know the controls aren't like the Dreamcast version, but I've heard generally good things about the game from posters and reviewers at GameFAQs. Once you get used to the control method it's quite playable.

Ok, so I forgot when I looked at the maracas when the price dropped to $20 for the game on BF, all the Amazon reviews panned them. But from this thread I don't see complaints about the maracas blocking the IR. So which is it?

180husher
12-15-2008, 05:19 PM
I don't think the IR is an issue while playing as you are not pointing the maracas at the screen.

I just bought the game by itself at this price on Friday, and OF COURSE a deal like this happens, guess I'll just return this unsealed copy when it comes in. There's another set of more expensive maracas that actually light up to but felt it was to rich for my blood at $20 (although it was for 2). Since i'm getting a free one with this promo I guess I'll give these a shot. Also the game is just as fun as I remember the Dreamcast version. This is one of the first of its kind for this game with maracas and it's priceless to see your friend (and you) move like a jackass. I do notice a little touchiness with the controls but don't find any extreme detraction from gameplay. Highly recommended. The downloaded content blows though (only 2 song packs for 500 wii points each) and it doesn't look to be supported in the future although it should be.

This is a fantastic deal - thank you! For those who are wondering - the maracas help because they create a longer plane to send the vibration through the remote making it seem more sensitive. You can acheive a similar effect by holding the Wii remote as far down as possible, but that tends to be uncomfortable or difficult to keep your grip.

I, for one, love my Sega Maracas. Those things and Samba de Amigo (DC) helped usher in many a non-gamer to Dreamcast gaming land. Fun was had by all. Seriously, people were practically begging me to sell them my set back in those days. Ah...good times.

Don't sweat it - you got a great deal. The only people who seem to have "issues" with the controls are people who played the Dreamcast version and have some kind of muscle memory associated with that.

The Wii remotes simply operate with a different set of physical rules. Since I never played the DC version, I have never had a problem with the Wii version.

That's great to hear. I didn't play the DC versions (NA and JP) much, so perhaps me going in "fresh" with this one will be a good thing. My copy should arrive next week, which is great since I'm taking the time off for the whole week. I plan on playing a lot of Persona 4, with a little Samba de Amigo Wii for breaks :D

You could always save it for a January holiday [checks Yahoo calendar]...New Year's Day, Coming-of-Age Day (Japan), MLK day (US), Robbie Burns day (Canada).

Of course the downside is that a better deal could come along. Best to just give it ASAP!

You got a point --- was actually going to recommend this type of thing too. Just space the games out! :)

BUT, with the maracas, I don't think this deal is going to get any better.

Good point. If my son brings home good grades and good behavior reports every 6 weeks, I let him pick a new game as a reward. I'll try to guide him to Samba De Amigo.

edit: And crap I missed it. Samba is showing up as backordered. You can still order at $19.98 with free maracas though.

The set I ordered for myself has shipped sans game. That blows! And it's also a bit silly. Why not just ship the maracas when the game is back in stock? It's not like I can do anything with just the maracas.

It's probably just a matter of them not being able to (or just not) connecting the maracas to the game within their system. If they aren't pakcaged together, it's like any other item.

And what if you had the game already, so you would want the maracas to ship.

Hmm...was curious about this...have the DC version and maracas... but wasn't sure if it was the same game until I read it had the extra songs ala 2000 version...but I see the deal is over. I did see the game now on sale (reg. price) at K-Mart for $19.99 though (others reported seeing the game at $19.99 at Circuit City). So, probably will pick it up and give the wiimote a try...

I think $19.99 is new MSRP (as of a week or so after Black Friday)--but the maracas were at least $10 even if you buy from Amazon, so it was a good deal.

Never even thought about doing that and surprised they did it. Then you have to get that special e-mail to do the pickup, did they generate that for you? I don't care about getting it before Christmas but I guess there is a chance they'd cancel the backorder and screw up the whole deal.

Called customer care after getting a second email that reminded me to try to switch to in-store pickup. Of course got some usual runaround:
Rep: "Looks like it's backordered, if we switch it to in-store they probably don't have it either"
Me: "Well the site says it's in stock, so I wanted to try anyway".
Rep: "Okay... it won't let me change it since it's backordered."
Me: "Is there any way to try? If they don't have it I don't mind changing back to regular shipping"
Rep: "They have 13 in stock... okay it's changed to in-store pickup."

Almost had to elevate that call to a supervisor. Geez. Over a stupid monkey with some maracas. :P
