View Full Version : AVAILABLE NOW Street Fighter LE Controller Blockbuster $25

I just got the Official Street Fighter Anniversary Edition Controller: Akuma & Ryu by Nubytech from my local Blockbuster store. They said that they did not carry the other ones (Ken and Chun Li).

This is not a bargain at $25 (MSRP), but is good to know for a couple reasons:
1. Gamestop’s ETA on these controllers is September 20. But it now says on the EB website that they are shipping within 24 hours. If you are able to get one (especially Ken or Chun Li), make a post and, if you can, provide a picture.
2. Gamestop and EB don’t offer the Akuma version right now. They are offering the Ryu, Ken, and Chun Li versions. Maybe different stores get different versions (at different times).

+Update+
EB and Gamestop are now listing them in stock (Gamestop seems to be having a little trouble getting Chun Li though). The real thing to know now seems to be that Akuma is apparently a Blockbuster exclusive and will be out of these pretty quick.

Also the standard PS2 controller sucks for 2D fighting games. This is pretty much a new Saturn controller which is great for 2D fighting games.

Of course YMMV. What is available in one store at one time is not always available in other stores at the same time. I suggest calling your Blockbuster first. (++Not really YMMV now, just availability may vary.)

Here's the link to the manufacturer's website. It shows that there is going to be 10 versions of this controller. Some will probably be more rare than others (like Akuma): http://www.streetfightercontroller.com/

Wow, look at the ETA's of these controllers at some of the places the manufacturer suggests to buy these at (who knows when EB or Gamestop will actually get them):
http://www.arcadeshock.com/Browse_dept_items.asp/categ_id/13/parent_ids/0/Name/Accessories
http://www.alternativedvd.com/AllItems.asp?FormName=Search&FormAction=Search&Pla tform=All&Title=street%20fighter

-Update-
Mr. Anderson posted an informative link:
http://www.popcultureshock.com/news.php?id=998
This story from mid-August says that Blockbuster will have the exclusive launch rights to these controllers. It also claims that they have exclusive rights to the Akuma controller distribution and that they will carry the remainder of the collection (all 10 I guess).

They don't have Akuma listed on their websites and I've gone into their stores to try to preorder it and they said it wasn't listed in their system. I'm not sure whether or not they'll have it in the future.

It's perfect. The lay out is perfect, much like the Saturn pad which is arguably the best fight pad. The quality is perfect, no braking this controller out of frustration because the AI kicks your ass 50 games in a row. You'll have to take a hammer to it crack it. The D-pad sticks out a bit so you don't have to dig your figure inside the controller to get out those shoryukens.

But I'm an arcade stick man, so I wouldn't use it much.

I'm wondering how good they are?

Just tried it out on Street Fighter Anniversary and Guilty Gear X2.

On SF I had to reconfig a bit to get the arcade layout. It worked great and I pulled my moves off most every time.

On GGX2 (which has been a pain in the past because of the gapped PS2 control pad) I pulled the moves off much more often than I did in the past. Not quite the same accuracy as SF, but that's because of the higher difficulty of moves. I think I can enjoy playing this (and Isuka) much more now.

I am one of those Capcom fans who imported numberous games for the Saturn and Dreamcast. The main difference between this new controller and the standard Saturn controller (version 2) is this new one is a lot thicker and smoother in texture. This new one also has a lot less contours to it; it has a very simple, rounded shape to it. The shape and strong plastic make it very durable for the times fighting Vega or M. Bison. The reaction between the controller and the game was perfect as far as I could see; none of those irresponsive and/or inaccurate outcomes from cheap controllers. I still prefer my Saturn controller a bit more than this new one, but these are great.

My local Blockbusters don't have Gamerush's either (I live in Salt Lake), but they have this controller. Plus they have things like Castlevania SotN GH ($15) and MGS GH ($13) new in the stores. You should be able to get it regardless of whether there is a Gamerush or not.

My blockbuster also got on the Star Wars Trilogy box set also, they weren't allowed to sell it yet though. Honestly the controls aren't that great. The packaging is beautiful though.

They try to imitate the old ASCII fighting pads for the DC/Saturn. Not even close.

The D-Pad is too loose. I brought this up with Nuby when I had them up for display in a tournament we ran late July. To my knowledge that was the final revision and it was never fixed.

::sigh::

Plus I like arcade sticks anyways lol.

I've gone to 3 differetn BB's in Los ANgeles and they all have 5 or more Akuma controllers with more on the way. They are not exclusive, it's just that BB gets them first. www.estarland.com has them but will not sell them until October. You can even find them cheap on Ebay. Don't let people whip you up into a frenzy about something being rare until you check it out for yourself. Now, if you wait until CHristmas or next year, then they WILL be rare (I'm assuming) but for now you can get them easily. The guys At GAmerush were really pushing them on me like they had a whole warehouse full of em that they had to get rid of.

Nope. What, did you ask the people at Blockbuster "Will you get more if you sell out". Im sure they said yes because so many are un-educated and don't even check emails. what they got is what they got. VERY few stores will receive an extra one or two, that is ONLY if they sell out within 5 days of getting the controllers. BTW, I am talking about the AKUMA one, the RYU one will be available for a while since it is NOT an exclusive.

Looks like the eStarland store mentioned by some of you revised it's availability and arrival time on these controllers. I think it will be at least Monday (EB) before you can find them anywhere but Blockbuster. It is difficult to know if other stores will have them by their estimated dates as they have pushed their ETA's multiple times now. Most smaller stores list that they won't have them until the end of September or sometime in October.

http://www.streetfightercontroller.com/

Here are my guesses (numbered left to right, top to bottom):
1. Ryu
2. Guile
3. Ken
4. Vega
5. ??? (maybe a second Ryu version; Evil Ryu?; not sure)
6. Sagat
7. Chun Li
8. Cammy
9. M. Bison
10. Akuma

Doesn't look like there will be a Blanka controller. I would have liked a slimy-green controller of him.

I'm now pretty much 99% sure on 9/10 of these controllers. If you look at the shaded pictures they are the same outlines as the images in the Player Select in Street Fighter Anniversary. The fifth one has the same outline as Ryu, but there is already a Ryu controller. I'm about 80% sure that it will be Evil Ryu even though he is an Alpha series character.

its not the dreamcast controller it looks like, its the saturn. about SF3, i believe the PS2 version is basically a port of the DC version, so it doesn't really have any real disadvantages compared to that version. The game does suffer from some color drabbiness (actually the whole disc including HSF2 and the movie all suffer from this), so this is the only drawback compared to the DC version I can think of. the supposed shoddiness of the PS2 port is there, but the DC version wasn't exactly arcade perfect either. only hope is that capcom fixes it up for xbox... which they won't because they're too damn lazy so if you want SF3 at home, you got nothing but shoddy comin' at ya.

These controllers want to be like the saturn controllers or any incarnation of the saturn controllers, but they're too hollow, cheap plasticy, and way too thick. Yes, they look cool, but the comfort is not there. I was thinking of collecting them all, but now I don't think i want more than 2.

I just got back from blockbuster and I went in there looking for the Punisher and The Ladykillers and came out with the Akuma controller. I was at the counter, saw it, had a nerdgasm and bought it. I wasnt even there looking for it. The controller works pretty good I've used it with Tekken 4 -Tag Tournament, and Guilty Gear X 2. I wish they would have thrown in an analog stick even though is still probably more of an collectors item.

Here's a post from someone over at Digital Press about the Akuma controllers that you might find interesting. Looks like the stores may not be limited to just 3 controllers per store, but it definitely looks like the Akuma is a Blockbuster exclusive:

Actually, let me chime in on this one. After purchasing my Akuma controller yesterday, I asked the Blockbuster lady if they had any of the others. She said "no", then produced an internal memo/document regarding the SF controllers for me to read. To paraphrase, it basically said that Blockbuster had received exclusive rights to distribute the Akuma SF controller. If any other locations (like arcadeshock) are offering them for sale, then they're either getting stock through Blockbuster somehow or totally wrong and will have to refund buyers, since they're pretty much in pre-order status anyway right now. If you check out the EBGames and Gamestop websites, you'll notice that they only list Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li. Having seen the document myself, I'd say it's pretty likely that Akuma is strictly a Blockbuster exclusive. Regarding the three-per-store, I'm not so sure, though I can say that the store I got mine at only had three and it didn't look like any more would be appearing any time soon.

For anybody that's actually used one of these controllers on the SF Anniversary Collection: how's the D-pad on these controllers? From what I saw at Blockbuster yesterday, they don't look too great, but then again, I wasn't able to feel it for myself. I've read many posts in this thread saying "nuby sucks, don't buy their controllers" but I would like an opinion from somebody that actually has this controller. Thanks in advance.

All I know is that it's a SF graphic novel and thats it. I think this is the same one that is included with the Street Fighter Special Edition controllers but with a different cover.

The Round 1 TPB is different.

It's issue #0-6 of the comic books compiled together.

The one that comes with the controller is issue 6 and 7 I believe.

its not the dreamcast controller it looks like, its the saturn. about SF3, i believe the PS2 version is basically a port of the DC version, so it doesn't really have any real disadvantages compared to that version.

Actually it's more closer to the arcade than the DC was. It is PRETTY much arcade perfect. Way better than DC anyways. For a more refined list of changes check out the forums on shoryuken.com

Okay, which one of you CAG's is using my pictures (and this topic post) to help make a few bucks?:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=8131307 613&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

When you right click on the pictures on this page it says they are "property of Vintagegamer13".

Probably the guy who bought all 3 from his local blockbuster and said he was going to sell them...

I PMed Slagcoin. I did take the pictures and I apologized. I will change them if he wishes. I am not the guy who bought 3. I bought 2 thinking my brother wanted one (which he said he did) and then he changed his mind. I saw someone else sell one for 39.99 so I put it up.

Then the other guy flooded them up for 17.99 each, If they retail for 24.99 I do not know how he could sell them so cheap. I will let the auction go until completion and then probably return it.

I didn't like you taking the pictures, but because you were honest enough to come forward even though no one could probably know it was you I guess it's okay. You could probably take the controller back to the store though. But if you really want to sell it, I would suggest that you make a point in your auction that you do have it right now. I don't think that the guy making all the $18 eBay posts actually has them or will have them for a while.

EB and Gamestop just keep pushing their ETA's day by day. I think they're just trying to make it look like they'll get the controlllers soon even though they know full well they won't have them until the end of the month. This is the same kind of thing they've been pulling on prereleases for a while now. They act like they will have it before everybody else on the Monday of the week it is being released, but they usually get it for redistribution on Tuesday and the individual locations get it on Wednesday or Thursday. I think they intentionally do this to rake in preorders, make more sales, and look important to the publishers. There is a whole list of examples of games they've done this on that I've wanted to get early but have had to wait for including Mario Golf, Mega Man Collection, and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. It is really starting to tick me off.

someone responded to this already, but to clarify, those images come from udon comics' Street Fighter. It is when Ryu comes back and finds that Akuma has killed his master Gouken. yeah, IMO, these stories are very "meh" and I don't see why people praise this stuff other than the art.

The controllers are ok i guess. i heard that it was too light and hollow which bugged at first but i got over it. buttons are fine. problems are that: 1) the start and select buttons are a little too close to the top row of buttons and are sometimes accidentally pressed. 2) this is just me, but i think it's harder to do shoryukens and double fireball motions on this controller than the dual shock, which i have no problems with. 3) the cord is just too short. its shorter than the dual shock 2 (its probly the same length as PS1 controllers). Overall, I am satisfied though and with more play those issues will probably go away after more play with it, except for the short cord, which is a little annoying.

Thanks for clearing this up... I had a suspicion that it may have been better than the DC but I was under the impression that it still wasn't arcade-perfect. IDK why, but i don't really enjoy the forums on SRK, but i'll check it out. One thing I did notice was the sound difference regarding the arrange music. On my DC version, after each round they basically stop and change to the next rendition of the stage music while on ps2, they try to smooth the transition over without a pause, which sounds forced and awkward. do you know if i'm right or is it just in my head?

I picked up the Akuma one. Awesome looking controller. Great collector's box. As for the pad itself I like it as well. I like the action on the d-pad and how the buttons are layed out. Some people said it feels flimsy...it is a little light but it feels solid enough. I might pick up another one.

Nope, Best Buy probably wont have em. On streetfightercontroller.com if you click on "where to buy", it lists Blockbuster, CompUSA, EB, Gamecrazy, Gamestop, Media Play, and Sam Goody as the B&M stores that sells them. It then lists these as the online retailers for the controllers:

having ONLY blockbuster carry the rest of these controllers is just stupid. not all blockbusters even carry video game hardware (it's not required). i went to my nearest location, and they didn't have any. i went to the next nearest one, and they had 3. both places told me that they were scheduled to only have a handful, like 5 or so. why the exclusive deal wtih blockbuster? blockbuster is gonna have some exclusive street fighter comic stuff too, which doesn't make sense either.

I think they are all going to have them. The Blockbuster near me doesn't sell games, but they still had 3 Ryus and 3 Akumas. I don't know why Blockbuster and Capcom are doing it this way, but I guess it is what they want to do.
