For someone starting from scratch at wanting to make a game down the road where should I start? Any book/s to recommend? I think it would be a fun hobby to start with a goal of someday making a Community Game.

Are you familiar with any programming at all?

You can find tutorials online for XNA and C#. C# is going to be your best bet to learn first.
