View Full Version : Cheapass AV Selector?

Even with a hand-me-down AV receiver, I've found that I've run out of AV ports to plug game systems into.

Gamecube, Dreamcast, Xbox, PS1, PS2, PS3, DVD, and who knows what else will come out!

I'm looking into getting an AV selector to extend the number of available ports. I'd like to keep it cheapass but not cheap. I once bought a crappy $5 3-port plastic sneeze that put lines on the screen and fuzz in the audio. No thank you.

I'm thinking of this:

3 ports for about $20 shipped. Has anyone seen anything similar or better in their hunts? I'd love an 8 port one, but those run into the hundreds of dollars. (I've always kept an eye on Value Village, but they never have).

Or does anyone have alternate suggestions? What sort of rig do you have to hook up all your gaming systems?

I've been using a 4 switch selector (A Philips PH61148) that I picked up at Walmart a couple of years ago for $25 or so. It's been solid and has component/composite/s-video connections.

edit: Here it is at the US Walmart site. (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3904683&cat=95987&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A133276%3A62055%3A95987&xsell=3861450)

I have a Pelican HD system selector that has 3 sets of component/s-video/composite/ethernet inputs and a fourth s-video/composite input on the front. It worked great. I only stopped using it because I upgraded to a switcher that optical inputs. I can sell it for $18 shipped. I can also provide pictures. PM me if you're interested.

I've been looking at that. Do you use component on it? No interference at all?

I don't typically use it with component, but I just ran a couple of bluerays through it on my roommate's television to test it out (crt hdtv, 1080i) and it looks just fine. No distortion, lines, or ghost imaging at all on any of the component inputs.
