Recently I have been taking my TvonDVD box sets and using handbreak to encode them to MP4 format. They are using the H.264 (x264) video codec with a 1500 kbps bit rate. The audio codec used is AAC with a 160 kbps bit rate. As far as I know this should be supported by the PS3. I set up my Windows Media Player 11 (patched to play MP4's) as a media server and used the PS3 to locate it. I can view the 3 sample videos in media center but the MP4's I have made show up as unsupported format. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

Also just a note, I saw where if I pick the PS3 default in Handbreak the only difference from the ones I have done are that the video bitrate goes to 2500 (vs. 1500) and the PS3 one has a sample rate (audio) of 48kHz while the one I've used is auto. I don't want to redo 150 GB worth of encoding so is there a way to get the ones I've encoded to work?

Not sure if all MP4 videos are supported. I had problesm with a few AVI's. Try burning them to disc or putting them on a flash drive. Then load them to the ps3.

Well I even tried encoding one as the PS3 default in Handbreak and it still shows up as unsupported media. I put them on a flash drive and the PS3 didn't show any files :-(

I noticed x264 codec works through tversity but not through windows media. Try using tversity to stream to your ps3.

I use handbrake to convert my dvd iso with the following settings. avi format, codec is mpeg-4(xvid) audio is mp3 at 192 bitrate. These are the only settings I can get the ps3 to recognize and play the file type that I have on a non-windows media server.
Works like a charm.

Well I just installed TVersity. I can see the files on my PS3 but when I click them the screen goes black for a few seconds then it says the data is corrupted..

Well for some reason I got it to work. The quality doesn't look too bad either. The episodes seemed a little laggy at first but after pausing them and letting them sit they seemed ok. Thanks a lot kleptoix!
