Yeah the "are you sure" and the 3..2...1 for retrying a challenge miss me the fuck off.
I'm stuck on Can You Spell Girl? (Can't get that glitch to work) and Blaowie or whatever. Any tips on the latter? I think it's ridiculous they want you to transfer over a pool.
Are you getting the rail from far away? I know there is one kind of close, but there is one further away. Plus on the first guys try it wont show up, but it will be there on the 2nd guys turn.
For that pool one, it is a bitch. I got it legit, but there is a cheat video on youtube somewhere. I dont have a link, or the correct spelling of BLAOEW or whatever to look it up. LOL

You have to hold RB before you hit the half pipe. I dunno how long i was trying this till i found this out. I was always pressing RB after i left the ramp and before i hit the backboard.
Dont get me wrong, this game is a lot of fun. But its the little shit that makes me mad. Like "are you sure" after you try to restart a challenge. Or instead of going up a ramp, you hit a glitch and it stops your momentum. Or when you are in a challenge and you press A to go and he goes for a second and then stops, forcing you to release A and hit it again to make him go. Not to mention getting spawned behind shit, and it seems like they always spawn you with barely enough room to do a trick. You always have to back up to get more room/speed. Then sometimes it seems like i can do a stupid little trick and ill get more points off it than doing a cool ass long trick.
Thanks for the tip on the challenge, worked like a charm! Also, I just played against ya in a ranked match! What are the chances? Ha!

Haha sweet. I dont remember your name, but i have been playing a ton of online. I got all the badges except for Death Races, i need silver and gold. I was just playing one then my game froze. Second time today it froze, and im playing with it installed!!!
Man its going to take forever to get all the badges in death race. The most points they give out is 12. The least i think is 3 and you need a total of 1000 points for the gold badge.

Man, this game does something that I find to be extremely annoying and its no surprise that it comes from EA.
I dont mind loosing a lot (hell I beat CODWAW on vet) but the way in which you compete against the CPU players in this game is complete ass.
I have been doing the Danny Way challenge for like 3 hours and I keep loosing. But the problem is that I never feel like I am competing against him, it just feels like the CPU is throwing out random numbers and its up to be just be lucky enough to have more at the end. For example if I do some tricks and get 15,000 points 2 seconds later the CPU will have 16,000 points. Fine, I do more tricks and get 17,500 and like clockwork the CPU will get 25,000 right after.
I guess I just would feel better if I could see what the CPU is doing to get points. I love the street contest for this reason..you can see what the 3 other CPU players are doing to get awarded points. But for a lot of these other one it seems like the game is just pulling numbers out of thin air....Danny way once got like 5,000 points for a kick flip 360.....after I only got like 2,000 for a back flip no foot.

This series just needs to rid itself of the game of S.K.A.T.E.... it's the worst IMHO...
been playing freeskate online and I have to say it's becoming the best part of the game for me. real fun. if anyone hasn't tried it I recommend doing so.

The trick to beating the DW challenge, and it's not easy mode, is to go down as fast as you can to the end ad the game cuts off his score when you finish, unlike when he finishes and you still get to trick.

Alright so I guess I am not a skater beacuse I just cant get into this game. Its such a chore to play. This is after getting half the cheese and completing maybe...75% of the game.
I dont want to rip on the game itself because its a solid skater and I like the realistic feel but the game design is complete shit. I cant even believe there is a skate 1 when how many flaws are in this.....did they not improve anything?
No single 1 thing by itself is all that bad but the fact that the game has about 20 completely annoying designs just put it over the top.
Walking controls are barbaric. Not so bad by itself but combine that with the spotty grab controls and it becomes a nightmare to do simple things. There is no excuse for a company like EA to not be able to build walking controls in this day and age.
The challenge system is horrid. Fail, press A to restart, Are you sure you want to restart...load....3.2.1.Go. This isnt that bad until you realize you are going to most likely will be doing each challenge 5 or more times before you complete it.
Which brings me to the challenges themselves....most of them are lame and boring. There were a few that were really cool and challenging but a good portion of them are simply not fun to do and feel like they are only there to pad the games length. Once you have done 1 death race you have done them all.
The way they presented the audio in this game was extremely disappointing to me. Even at 100 half the time I couldnt even hear what song it was and when I did I was confused at why this song was even in the game in the first place. Individually the songs are fine but in a skater soundtrack they came off bland. And dont get me started on the dialogue, I have never hung out with skaters but I hope to god thats not how they actually talk.
Somewhere in there is a solid skater game but there is to much bullshit on top to give it any consideration and I cant even bring myself to finish the game.
Didnt mean to rain on anyone parade but I had to express my feelings I hope the rest of you have fun until skate 3 comes out. Good luck.

I'll give you the walking controls and the restart system. With the walking controls though, you very rarely have to get off your board. It's not enough to knock down the game's score. It's just something they need to improve. The retry system does kind of suck, but for a lot of challenges, you can get them done within a few tries. The Pro challenges really show how much of a pain in the ass the retry system is.
The challenges themselves and whether or not they "suck" really comes down to personal opinion. This is the most fun I've had with a skating game since Tony Hawk 4. I hope the next Tony Hawk game to come out is half as fun as this game is.
The sound in the game is low on purpose. The music is there, but it's not meant to take away from the game's core element, skating.
Soodmeg
02-09-2009, 01:12 AM
As I said though....yeah walking controls by themselves wouldnt be enough to lower a games score but combine that with the other things I have listed and some other things I didnt it starts to be a chore.
Its true that you rarely have to get off your board but any time I did get off it instantly made me feel like I was in sega game.
Yeah any challenge would be personal opinion but I found myself asking "why" I was doing a lot of the stuff I was doing.
I knew the music was low on purpose but that isnt what really annoyed me about it. It was the actually tracks. One of the reason I really liked Tony Hawk was beacuse the music brought me into the game. I mean there was nothing like getting massive combos while listening to Greendays Basketcase back in the day.
The tracks themselves are fine in Skate 2 but......lets just say that I like the band Disturbed but they would be out of place at a kids birthday party. Nothing could make me feel further away from being a skater than listening to some shreaking metal music in the background and then 2 seconds later "lower rider." It was like everyone got to pick 1 song to have in the game.
Anyway, like I said the skating part of the game is solid but everything else to me is trash. But whatever floats your boat.
EDIT:Immersion. That is what I am thinking off. As goofy as Tony Hawk is at least it connect with you on a basic level. This game did nothing but make me feel like exactly that....like I was sitting in a chair in the living room playing a video game.
Edit 2: Couldnt take another second of this game. Sold.

Looks like Skate 2 is getting more DLC (http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/955/955083p1.html). Rob Dyrdeks skate park and San Van Classic pack that has the old skate park from the skate 1 demo and 2 other locations. Not bad for 5.00 each. Might get the classic pack, but the Rob Dyrdek pack sounds dumb.

I got it at the Urban Curves Own The Spot challenge. Just back up from the spawn far enough so you get enough speed to clear the stairs and 36 feet. Took me a few tries but it was pretty easy.

Go to the map > Own the spot > Getting Technical.
It should start you out by the stairs i got the achievement on. To the left of where you start, is a sidewalk that you can roll down to get some speed. If you go forward and to the right, you will eventually see a big stack of stairs. Just go up to the top of the sidewalk on the left, roll down through the tunnel, and right when the tunnel ends, go a little to the left. BAM! Cant miss it.

I caved in and got the DLC. There's nothing too fancy but I like the park regardless. It has some nice drops from the roof, tons of movable items, 5 new spots to own, 5 or 6 Challenges and a Jam session to finish it off. From what I've noticed the DLC area is not connected to the city. The only way to get in & out is by spawning.
I've been busy playing other games so I kinda forgot about Skate 2. But now I'm back into it thanks to the DLC. I had so much fun I think I'll end up buying all the DLC areas.

They're totally seperate from the rest of the town. This pack is a much better value than the fantasy park. There seem to be more challenges and spots to own.

There are 2 "win trick contest" and 1 "win jam contest" achievements, but i cant seem to find out how to start the events.

I played the first Skate up until Skate 2 came out. that's a year and 3 months, granted it wasn't every day, and there would be weeks between sessions while I was playing other games, but it always found its way back into my 360. Skate 2 has been the same way so far.
the city is huge, and if you just cruise around you'll find new cool spots to session for 20 minutes and then move on and find another one.
thing is though, I used to skate, so it might be more fun for me than someone who never, or never really, did.

Why does Skate 2 have the majority of pot related gamertags? I have seen so many instances of "pot" "smoke" "420" "kush" "blaze" and whatnot. Unsurprisingly, the only people who talk have mentioned weed. Skaters are gonna get a bad rap.
Anyway, I have every achievement (+ both DLCs), so you can find me playing online Spot Battle for Legend - just need like 2400 more EXP.

Absolutely. The demo doesn't represent the game enough. I love the Skate series more that the Tony Hawk series because Skate is some much more realistic. I would rather do a kickflip to a grind down a set of stairs then do a 1080 over a house then land on a rail and grind it for a million points. I've given up on THPS series.
There are so many spots through out the city that you will ride by and see a rail or jump and turn around to go hit it a couple times. And the areas are so varied. There will be town settings, city settings, mountain settings, beach settings, etc. It never gets old.

Agreed, something to be said for the simpler trick system with a realism base. I was a huge THPS fan for a long time but Skate has won me over. just got Skate 2 last week.

After Tony Hawk 2 I stopped playing skating games. It always annoyed me how crazy they were getting. The Hawk games never seemed to change yet people kept buying them and reviews kept on praising them, I didn't understand it.
I've gotten other people into playing Skate that previously never played skating games and aren't into skating at all. The game is simply satisfying from the first spot you kill to the first time you discover a cool place and decide to trick off it for the next hour.

Last night i bought the Rob D factory pack and its pretty cool. I had a hard time beating the 2nd part of the jam contest. Luckily i tied in the end, which is as good as a win in this game. I also got those achievements i didnt think i would have completed in the classic pack. I was able to complete the Nollie>nose manual>manual>nose manual>gap the bench challenge on my first attempt. But the Manual pad jumps were harder. All in all, way better 10 dollars spent on these 2 DLC packs than Tomb Raider underworlds beneath the ashes DLC. LOL.

Having a problem on one of the missions in the DLC of the school.. In the begining it requires me to nollie up on a very high ledge the nose manual. It seems like I can't get on ledge unassisted, so I drag over a ramp. But it never registers. The ledge is just so high it doesn't seem like I can simply nollie up on it. Anyone do this?

Whew I managed to complete Lucas's Transition last night after about 50 tries. It was TOUGH! Although it looks like I'va already completed 2 of the harder challenges in the game, Lucas's Transtition and Creativity Rules (and Vert With a Vampire to some extent).. Have'n't tried SPELL GIRL yet though and I've heard it's the hardest one yet.
One thing that's I learned from these harder challenges is that you don't really need to flow your right thumstick moves together. They can all be a flick then pause then next move. Something I wasn't relly doing before. Helps a lot for getting the game to recognize what move you are trying to do.

It took me about 50 tries as well to get lucas transition I ended up getting the tailslide and then jumping and switching my grind as I was going to get the noseslide after I landed on the other ledge.

Getting Technical is one i havent done yet, the other is the wall. Any tips for those?
Some of the spots i was able to get simply by using object to do tricks on and then landing on the object i was supposed to do the trick on. So there are ways around them, but not always easy.
Rodimus
03-02-2009, 05:46 PM
Is "The Wall" the one that has a high slope and above it an overhanging wall with a hole in it? If so I don't remember exactly what I did but I remember there's a edge you can grind before reaching it. I think I might've used that.
In Getting Technical you're gonna have to find some objects to trick off of. Theres a spot at the bottom that has a long grind. Move some tables and rails over there, get some speed and just grind as much as you can.

The OTS locations in the game will display the highest score out of your friends list, if you have beaten the 'Kill It' score.
For spots you download, it has a leaderboard you can look at.

Yeah but its damn annoying when people get in the way, or worse, you bail and the table/rail falls over and moves and you have to put it back. Its a damn shame these objects have no weight to them. They should stick peroid, and not be able to move unless you grab them and move them.

After you set a session marker, move objects around. When you get them where you want push right on the D-pad to 'add to session'. Then whenever you reset to your session marker, the objects go back the way you put them.
This is super helpful for hitting tough created lines over and over.

It doesn't have nearly as much content as the classic pack, but I like it. The ditch by the warehouse is pretty sweet, and you can air into it from the roof. I couldn't allow myself to only get one pack, but honestly, if you can wait for a deal on the FF (however it may come), do it.
I swear, that manual film challenge in the School DLC was a motherfucker. hardest in the game (with no glitch available that I know of).
A couple things that helped me (for anyone who has yet to complete this):
* Nollie in from an angle. Don't jump at the ledge straight on, otherwise you will fall and cry.
* The goals don't need to be completed in sequence. So if you get the nollie and lose your manual after the first ledge, you can still complete the challenge.
I got lucky and finished the this one on my tenth try or so.

I thought it was, the achievements aren't much and the challenges/contests will take you a whole 7 minutes to complete, but with a game like Skate 2 it's usually the replay value that matters. Online matches are fun with this spot, so I'd suggest picking it up.

Anyone after free skate challenges? Its the only achievement i have left, and i have been trying to get 149 of them done. Im up to 130, so i only need 19 more. The DLC packs are nice for this achievement, because it adds more, and you dont have to do all 149 that came with the game.
Problem is half of them are challenges where everyone has to complete a move at the same time. Whenever i try these online way too many people join which makes it really hard, or they just give up and skate around making everyone elses attempts pointless. So im looking for another player to complete most of these simutaneous challenges just the two of us.
I also have some gap challenges left to do too. I really hate when 5 out of 6 people complete a gap challenge and then the last guy cant, and doesnt have the decensy to quit and let everyone else complete it. Nah, he has to drag everyone else down with him, and make us fail it.
Anyway, if anyone wants to hit some challenges up with me, just add me. I dont use a mic, but i dont think that will be a problem.

I finally managed to get all these damn online freeskate activities done and no achievement. When i go to a custom game and look at each location they are all done. But when i look at my online profile within the game it says 149/150 completed. WTF? Did the DLC somehow screw me over?
UPDATE: I was able to just get it. I had to delete my DLC parks, and play another freeskate activity online. Once i finished that it unlocked. So the DLC packs might be blocking this achievement if you are trying to get this achievement.

I bought the Maloof skate park. To be honest its not that great. It has a mega ramp, but its not as great as the ones already in the game. The other part of the park is similar to any other park in the game with rails, picnic tables and such. I guess if you follow real skating and are interested in the real maloof event, then this would be a must buy. But there are only 2 challenges, they are both tournaments and i beat those pretty easy.
The achievements are easy to get except one, which is secret. The only one im missing is to grind the left crane of the mega ramp. Its a bitch to even get a grind going on it, then you have to land it. Ive only been able to grind it once in like 100 tries. The other secret achievement is to land on top of a tent which is on top of the half pipe.
So overall, i think you should pass on it unless you really love skate. The freeskate challenges online are alright, a couple were a little tough.

Yeah the problem was i was trying to grind on the crane left of the mega ramp, so i wasnt even trying to grind the right crane at first. But i saw a youtube video of how to do it and it still took me a long time to get it. My guy would always fall when i hit the crane. But i did finally get it.
Pitch the tent is the same way i got it. I did that in one try.
I got full 1500/1500 gamerscore on skate 2

Also got this & like The 7th Number said, if you're a casual Skate player then it's a pass. The main feature of the park is the Mini Mega Ramp but it's overshadowed compared to the games other giant ramps. There's only two challenges in which each one nets you 100 Nerd Points. I finished them in under 10 minutes. However I didn't get the two Secret Achievements yet.
I was very disapointed in this DLC and the only 2 reasons why someone might want to get this is:
1. You love Skate 2 and want everything to do with it
2. Super easy Achievements Points

yeah, it's a little light in objects to skate, except that one angled ledge at the corner of the street course, that thing is sweet. Yeah, its not so much the difficulty of it, its the fact that there is a seemingly endless list of skaters you have to play. I just picked any spot and did 4 triple flips (heel, kick, nollie) and a 180 triple kickflip every game.
