I'm interested in this game since I never got to try out the first Skate. I've heard it's really good so I hope to get a demo for it so I can try it first. I really liked the old Tony Hawk games but haven't really found anything from this generation of games that I liked a whole lot.

Download the original skate demo, it will pretty much be the same stuff but more added tricks and able to get off your board. Just adding lots of features, but the core game is still there.

I played the skate. demo even though I didn't fully complete it, but it looks pretty decent. I know what you're think right now, that I'm being an idiot or something. Well it just seems kind of restrictive, I don't really know if it is or not, but it's most likely because of the Demo.

I'll be looking up a review of skate then probably will watch some gameplay videos to see if what I think the game is about is untrue.

i was playing the skate 2 demo now, since i just got a chance to. It feels like skate 2 runs at a higher framerate than the original skate. Skate was kinda of slowish, but this feels more responsive, and the hippy jump is fun. :)

Yeah they bumped the frame rate up to 60fps I thought. It feels like a completely different game and being able to get off the board is a godsend.

hippie jumps are great, and i'm getting the hang of doing no complys, bonelesses, and foot hops.

I love it so much. I already loved it but when i saw tensor and ricta had trucks and wheels in the game my mind exploded. I lvoed tensor and ricta when I skated so the already great playing game made me orgasm.

OMG this game is incredible!

I played the hell out of the orig Skate demo, but never bought the game because of a few issues that they corrected here (off board being #1). This is the game Skate should have been.

For a demo, this thing is packed with customization and goodness.

I'm going to preorder this now, and then get back to the demo.

it's a bit stiff but to be honest it gets the job done. at least you can walk, run, grab, call/throw board, get on/off board.

I did do a cool hippie jump onto a table, ran the top of the table, jumped off the end and back onto my board for a good score... nice!

I can't believe this game is coming out in a couple weeks. I can't wait. I played the shit out of Skate 1 and I'll be getting this one too. My GF found it funny when they said "Dude, while you were in the slammer, me and the guys learned how to walk." The walking is a bit weird but I'll get use to it.

Like Puffa said Tony Hawk series is dead. I would rather do a kickflip over a set of stairs than do a 5 million point combo.

In a way, I'm glad I skipped skate. 'cause what I played of the skate 2 demo is awesome. The teasers for the features in the full game make me so hype for it. Looks a lot bigger and more flexible/customizable experience than the first game (which played pretty well from what I got to try).

I've played the demo multiple times now. I still love it, but it's not perfect.


- I agree the off board movement is kind of stiff

- Timer sucks, but only because I have to remake a character each time.

- I played as a girl and the same voice track was used, your still referred to as 'Dude', 'Him', and 'He'.

- I hope there are more customization options in the full game.

Yeh im with you, im going to see what other people say about it and maybe even wait for the price to come down abit.

I enjoyed the demo...but it didnt amaze me like the first Skate demo did. The off the board walking is very clunky and wierd. It did look pretty and the framerate was perfect. I will get it no doubt, but wait till the price comes down or what deals are found on here.

I played the demo once and its nice. Took me a while to get back into it. Walking was a bit strange, you would think they would have made it more fluid. But you cant walk backwards, and it feels like your walking in an old computer game. LOL. But to be honest, having this option is better than not having it.

it does jump a bit. I think the blame is the 60fps. I also know that the PS3 was the lead system it was being developed on so it might be smoother on there.

I have a hard time going up ramps, but i havent played skate in like 6 months. As for the camera, Skate 2 was supposed to have other angles. But this demo doesnt seem to have any.

Did they take out the move where you lay down on the board with your back? I remember it being LT+RT+B. In skate 2 if i try that he just neals down. If i do it in the air he lifts the board over his head.

From what I heard, the story goes like this. There was an earthquake in Skate It (for Wii/DS) and the city needs to be built. It was rebuilt bigger and better but a company called Mongo Co. increase security and added those skate blockers to ledges and rails. You just got out of jail (I'm guessing for skating) and you are raising money to create a skate center for the city.

Thats all I've heard. I'm sure there is more to it.

yeah the first several times I tried it I wasn't able to get out. but the last two times I was able to get it. skated around a bunch of the city, found the ABC Spot thing, ollied down into the street and skitched around pretty far, got to the Snake Pit park where you do the Hall of Meat thing, and skated that for a while before the timer ran out.

I hate that damn timer.

I was able to do the glitch to get out. Make sure you use the little ramp, dont seem to work with the big ramp. Man i hate walking off the board. Anyway, from what i saw it looked cool. But im just not as excited as i used to be for this game. Ill probably buy it, but i dunno if it will be day 1.

I just played it again today....well not really. I spend all my time just trying to get out of the park. Pissed me off cos i couldnt get out. The walking really turns me off. Its so primitive for a game. I dont know how they made it so terrible. Its really frustrating. Why didnt they just allow you to move forward, back, left, and right? No you have to turn in the direction you want to walk, then press forward. Then i try to grab a ramp, and he ends up walking on it. Then i have to turn all the way around, walk forward, then turn all the way around, and try to grab it before he walks up it again.

I guess bottom line is that both systems are pretty much the same?

The 360 seems to have slightly sharper textures, or at least more contrast in the textures (I wonder why this often seems to be the case?). I don't know if I saw the 360 stutter slightly in frame rate? I also don't know if the hoodie used was the same (the PS3 version was just a solid color while the 360 had horizontal stripes)?

I'll prolly go 360, but I don't think PS3-only owners should feel bad at all...

PS3 looked a bit sharper and better with shadows. But not much of a difference really. I played skate on 360, but i wonder how it feels to use 2 analog sticks that are right next to each other, like the ps3 has. Seems like that would be even more realistic in a way.

I got the glitch to work right away!

Theres a giant black hole where alot of the level is missing, but if you skate past that I found a swimming pool area, and outside the pool that bald dude with the blue shirt from the cutscenes was skating around. I followed him around but I couldn't talk to him. Then he fell into a brick wall and dissapeared, lol.

No way! There was something about the demo that just seemed so completely wrong, but I had no idea why. I finally figured it out. It was because the default setting was goofy, when I remembered skate as being regular. So I changed the footing and everything is awesome. I feel like a dumbass.

The first time i tried it i got out right away. Since then ive tried over 20 minutes and cant get out. Its really annoying.

and yeah, I hate the goddamn walking controls. it's a real pain while trying to do the glitch, which I could forgive because I don't plan on doing much on that in the full game, but it's also a pain sometimes when trying to set up/move obstacles. everything else though, I pretty much dig. except you still can't do a proper frontside flip, it still looks like a kickflip 180.

Agreed with everyone on the walking aspects. Hell, you can't even walk backwards. And its easier to move around whiledragging a heavy ass picnic table or ramp than when you are just walking. :wall:

Its weird how they left so much of the "outside" in the demo too. And it's funny how both demo's have glitches that let you outside.

And man, the demo is so much better once you glitch out. At first, I was like meh, feels more like more of the same. As soon as I got out, the game became a definite buy.

Yeh i downloaded the demo again (was testing my new, very fast broadband) and i tried the glitch to get out of the park...but i couldnt do it :cry:. He just got stuck and started twitching about and breaking all of his bones!

Eh, this game feels more like a poorly done Tony Hawk (although still probably better than THPG...which is utter garbage). The 1st Skate was better than this one. The off the board feels awkward and is poorly implemented and the animation for the tricks doesn't seem to be very smooth.

Alright got my game today from GameStop. Got a nice t-shirt as a bonus plus a code for some cool looking "retro" clothes for my character.

Overall the game is really enjoyable, the customization along with soundtrack have been hugely improved. Somewhat the game still feels like the original some of the new additions to the game didn't really add anything or refreshing. I still despise the game's look and is probably my least favourite part of the game. I am already 2 hours into the game and having a lot of fun.

I would probably give this a 3.75 out 5.

wow... I highly recommend everyone avoids doing some of the later thrasher challenges... hand planting on separate objects is common for photo shoots with thrasher and that's probably the most broken aspect of the game.

This game is amazing until you realize how bad you are at it... I was doing fine until I beat Danny Way, but then the world opened up, I got overwhelmed, and had to fire up The Maw.

It would be an all around better game if there was a one-button restart. Sometimes the session marker just doesn't cut it, and between the menus and gameplay my thumb was sore pretty quick :(

I just got it and played a few hours. Im a little disappointed. I thought the game would look better. Sometimes the environment can look like the wii version. Trees, cars, other surroundings can look Wii'ish. I tried death race and the camera kept moving, i barely won cos of that POS, good thing you can change it to a higher camera view which is better IMO. But then the game seemed to have framerate issues with the higher camera angle. Im thinking of installing it to the HD if i have enough room.

ROAR! Why the hell did they add a little "are you sure?" question after everything? Its especially annoying when trying to redo a trick mission. You bail, they ask if you want to retry, you put yes, they ask are you sure? Fuck you! I hate games that ask this shit, especially when it isnt going to have any major effect to the game like saving over a previous save, or ending your story mode. Having to try these tricks 20+ times in a row, this "are you sure" question is really annoying. To top it off, the question pop ups with NO selected. So you cant even press A really fast to get it to go. No you have to move the cursor to YES and then press A .

Also i hate how they charge you to do some contests. If it takes you 20 times to win, you are fucking broke. I also dont get why they left security in, they are annoying and seem like they have no purpose in the game.

Damn, maybe I shouldn't get this game. There were a lot of frustrating parts in the first Skate that really fucking pissed me off. Security is a piece of shit too.

Money hasn't been an issue at all for me. Try doing the bonus & career missions first.

I can understand the frustration with the missions, but I've only come accross a few that take me awhile to pull off. I had a problem pulling off foot plants and no-complys but after some practice they've become second nature.

Has everyone forgetten freeskate online? I've also been spending a lot of play time with friends. The co-op missions are a blast.

my biggest gripe is the countdown timer in the game... it slows the whole thing down alot.

aside from that, charging to enter contests dosn't happen at all once you get a board sponsor. it states somewhere in the game or manual that once you get the sponsor they pay your way. I can confirm this.

This one was tricky. Not really any advice I know of to pull it off easy. I did go into the actual trick menu and looked up both the tail and nose slides. This gave me a better sense of the motion. I started with the tail, gapped doing a 180, and finished with the nose. Took me a good 20 minutes to complete it.

I swear the one where you have to manual hop and manual gap the tree planters, i swear i did it a few times and it wouldnt register. That one is massive hard, and they only give you 30 seconds. Only pro challenge i have left is the girl one.

Only properties i bought so far was the 50k one. I raked in a ton of cash betting on death races. I guess as long as you retry till you win, you wont lose cash. I just kept betting as much as i could for every race. I think i have about 300k.

Yeah the "can you spell G.I.R.L." challenge is hard because you dont get to start. So its hard to last long enough so you get to set the trick. Plus some of the moves are so close to another move, sometimes its hard to nail the trick. Not to mention making it over the rail. You dont really get much room to get a good push. There are a few challenges that seemed hard as hell, till i backed up a few feet to get that extra room to get another push in.

Some of the challenges are weird though. Like some of them seem like you are supposed to do them in one line. But i ended up doing some piece by piece. Like one where you jump over 2 trash cans, then jump a ramp to nail a grind. I jumped over both trash cans, went back to the beginning, and then nailed the jump/grind. Not that im complaining.

I cam in knowing most of the challenges weren't line specific, so it wasn't that hard as long as that's known. personally, I think anything timer based is bad for this game. forcing the player to rush in a game that should just be to chill out skillfully is the worst thing this game does.

Maybe I haven't played skate in a while but it feels like it is much harder to do tricks in this one than it was in .skate. I can't tell you how many times I have tried doing a kickflip or heelflip only to have it result in a shuv it...

This game pisses me off because sometimes it feels like the challenge is impossible. For instance, Thrasher mag wanted me to do a ramp to leg plant, to another ramp stunt. Sounds easy enough. But there are gaps between the ramp, middle cement block where you leg plant, and between the other ramp. Now when i planted the leg, the guy would never jump long enough to get to the last ramp. No matter if i landed right at the edge of the middle section, he couldnt jump over enough. I finally passed this thanks to my board hitting the last ramp 50% on, then i was able to kickflip on to the ramp all the way. But that seemed pretty ridiculous.

Another one is the handplant on the basketball backboard. It seems like i can never set the ramp up right. Its too close and i end up hitting the backboard with my skateboard and bailing. Then i move it 1 mm out more and now its too far away. Its really annoying. I tried like 40 times and hand planted once, which ended up falling on my face cos he came down where there was no ramp.

I just did the backboard hand plant. I guess my problem was pressing RB between the top of the ramp and the top of the backboard. When i had to hold RB before i even touched the ramp, then press up on the LS.

I think on the last ramp instead of just landing you need to trick off it. so it should be: ramp up, jump, grind, jump, ramp up, jump.

I still cant beat "can you spell G.I.R.L." challenge. I restarted it till the first guy bailed. I eventually go to set the trick and did a lot of moves, but they pretty much got them all. Its annoying sometimes because they do two pushes and they clear the rail every time with a lot of height. When i do two pushes im lucky to get over the railing. I know i should try 540s, and i was but i wasnt able to land any.

Is there a way you can change shoe sponcers? I know you can change board sponcers. But i picked Etnies and all their shoes suck in the game. I should have picked DC or Osiris.

Does anyone know where The secret ramp is in slappys? I just finished the game, and he mumbled something about telling me about something, and said i would find it. There is a room in the back(where you learn to ollie in the demo, before you move the trashcan to enter slappys). After the ollie you go left and there is a room with a ramp. But its pretty weak for it to be a secret. I was always hoping the old park from skate 1 demo was still alive somewhere. But if this room is the secret, its a pretty big let down.

as long as you keep doing tricks through the gates, you should have plenty of time. Just keep in mind that you have to be in the air as you go under the gates to get time

Yeah that was a bitch till i found out doing tricks gain you more seconds. Just watch out on the last lap you take a different route, to the center of the pool.

online is most fun with the freeskate activities. I finished all but the spots in career so the next thing is to do those and finish a few achvmnts. after that, all online.

Wow online sucks apart from Hall of Meat. HOM is really fun. But other modes suck.

I was doing Jam, and my guy is hard to get momentum, and half the moves i do end up worthless. I always come in last. Then there was one spot by the danny way mega ramp where you have to go into a sewer hole and come out and hit this half pipe. Only problem is that every time i hit that half pipe my guy would go flying over it, and not come back down inside the half pipe. I wasnt even pressing the left stick up or anything.

Then i decided to do some deathrace, cos i was really good at it in skate 1 and it was one of my favorites. Well they really screwed it up this time. One thing that sucks is when you hold LT+RT it no longer makes you faster. Its like i press LT+RT to gain speed going down a hill and here come other people just pushing with their legs going faster. What the fuck? It seems like maybe doing tricks make you go faster, not sure, but this is a death race not a trick contest. Why did they fuck that up.

Another thing i hate about death race is the spawning. I spawned once behind a log to start the race so i had to go around it while others were well on their way. Then if you bail from a curb or any other 3 inch bump, it spawns you right in front of the same bump. So you have to get off your board, walk over the curb, then get back on your board....and well that takes a while. Presious seconds are wasting away while this is going on.

I Dunno it just seems like this skate game isnt as good as the first one. More tricks sure, but there seems to be a lot of little things that piss me off. Unless i just dont remember those things from the first game.

Another thing i hate about death races that i forgot to mention is the fact that people can take short cuts in certain races. I mean a couple races have a few designed short cuts. But some people know where to go, and i dont see that really as fair game. In Skate 1 didnt they make you go through the goals? And if you missed 2 in a row then the race would be over for you? In Skate 2 you can just take a shortcut to the last goal if you have enough time. Its pretty dumb.

And another thing, its like there are 3 places to race and a varient of each one. So it seems like you are always doing the same 3 races.

Mountian Top is broken when you try to play S.K.A.T.E. on it. You can do one push and do a trick right onto the stairs and it will count. Plus you can do a trick and grind on the railings and it counts.

Game is great so far, except for one challenge in particular: the Oi! Let's Skate Thrasher challenge. All I can say is stupid, stupid, stupid. Not only do you have to handplant a handrail WAY above the half-pipe, the rail isn't even to the fucking ramp! How am I supposed to plant something THAT I CAN'T REACH?! On top of that bullshit, there's some jackass skating around IN THE SAME PLACE I AM WHILE TRYING TO DO THE CHALLENGE, constantly knocking me off my board as I'm trying to gain speed. Go for it. It can be frustrating, but I don't really understand all the hate for it. I'm not awesome at this game (I can't even win an online match) but I beat every mission in career mode and loved every minute of it, even the frustrating parts. When you finally finish a difficult mission you get a great sense of accomplishment.

The game has a lot of playablity from career mode, online ranked or freeskate, veiwing or making footage, exploring for spots, creating spots, etc.

So I just cracked this open and created a guy. Just first and for most...this game has the worst set of non white person create a player features I have seen in a game in a long time.

It actually made me laugh because I remember back in the day when you could only make a white guy or some type of horrible combination of every other race combined and it always came out looking like a really dark white guy.

The create a player definatly lacks, but the first one was awful too.

If you play through career you find most of the good skate spots. The only things you'll have to look for are own spots and some pools. Not sure how long it took me. I'll have to check the game clock. But I'm gonna guess 15 - 20 hours.

When you skate in a half pipe or bowl, is there something you can do to prevent your skater from leaping out of the bowl, or over the half pipe? I dont press up on the LS and sometimes he still ends up jumping out or over, when all im trying to do is go up and back down the ramp. Seems like its just random.

Yes, there are a few factors that will make jump out of the bowl/half pipe. Pressing forward on the LS makes you go over. Sometimes I do this by accident since I want to pump for more air. The trick is to use the triggers to pump. Also make sure not to air over a curve or corner of the pool. Your character will not magiclly follow the edge of the pool.

This is the first Skateboarding game I buy since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and I am liking it so far. I am not a skater by any means and I like the challenging gameplay this game offers. Nothing is really easy to do so it keeps it kind of interesting. I have been hearing some good things about the Hall of Meat online mode so I will give that a try pretty soon.

Yeah, I like the game so far. The controls are pretty damn hard but once I got use to them it starting coming together. The walking controls like a zombie though.

I like the realistic feel of the game. One question, how do I string together grind moves off of 2 different objects? Like say 2 benches with a gap in between once I am at the end of one how do I "jump" to the next one? I tried just doing a kick flip but it didnt seem to work well. Though I might not be good enough yet.

You have to hold RB before you hit the half pipe. I dunno how long i was trying this till i found this out. I was always pressing RB after i left the ramp and before i hit the backboard.

Dont get me wrong, this game is a lot of fun. But its the little shit that makes me mad. Like "are you sure" after you try to restart a challenge. Or instead of going up a ramp, you hit a glitch and it stops your momentum. Or when you are in a challenge and you press A to go and he goes for a second and then stops, forcing you to release A and hit it again to make him go. Not to mention getting spawned behind shit, and it seems like they always spawn you with barely enough room to do a trick. You always have to back up to get more room/speed. Then sometimes it seems like i can do a stupid little trick and ill get more points off it than doing a cool ass long trick.
