So my work has a PS3 we use to watch movies and play games on but now the disk drive just spins the disk but never reads it. This is a launch PS3 so I figure the warranty is over, and wanted to know if anyone has ever had to get their PS3 fixed due to a similar problem.

Does Sony charge a flat fee to fix a PS3? or does it depend on what part of your system is broken? If the price depends how can the give you a quote on how much it is going to cost to fix?

Any input on this would be very much appreciated.

It's a flat $149.

In your case it sounds like the BD drive is out. In that case and since you are out of warranty you can check ebay or replacement bd drives and check the web for diy instructions. I've heard you can do it for up to half the price sony charges (and you get to keep the stuff you had saved on it).

Cool, its good to know there is a flat fee. I think I can swing the 150. I would hate to replace the drive and find out something else was wrong with it.

I think it was dropped and that's what killed the drive.
