That wont work cause the play and charge is not connecting the controller to the 360 or the PC for this matter with Data that port on top is strictly power nothing else.... If not the port it's the cord itself that is made for stricktly power and nothing else.

First you got to make sure your computer has a Female USB port and then you take the 360 controller's Male usb head and then you ram it into the female port.
If it doesn't turn on, take it out and then put it in again.
Keep doing that until it gets turned on.
