I just got back. It was pure luck, as I went to the one advertised one that was an indoor house sale. There was some decent furniture, but nothing of interest in the relations to gaming and electronics. Well, I shouldn't say that. There was a free 486 (I'm guessing... as it had a 1 or 2x CD-Rom) and Dot Matrix printer.

On my way back, I ran into my sister who was out and had found one that was unadvertised. We headed over and I got a decent haul.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2cohms5.jpg

GBA SP with AC Adaptor and Wireless Adaptor (no games) for $15. The front case is scratched up a good bit, but the screen's in pretty good shape.

All the games were $3.

SNES Games:
Harley's Humongous Adventure
Super Mario World (my sister bought it and gave it to me to hold on to as she doesn't have a system)
Jeopardy Sports (again, my sister bought it)

N64
Castlevania 64
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Resident Evil 2

So I dropped a total of $27. I didn't bother haggling as she said it was her son's (and was priced differently than the rest) and he wasn't around.

My sister also got two PSOne 15 block memory cards still sealed (Pelican brand) for $5. Well, and she bought the GB Advance for me as I'm going to give my nephews the Gameboy Colors I have once I find what games I want to part with.

went out for the first time in the cincy area today, and all that i found was one sale with a bunch of crappy overpriced xbox games. oh well, it's not even april. good amounts of quality ohio/kentucky garage sales don't start til about may.

Went out this morning, but didn't get much. I got Emperor: Battle for Dune, bag of memory sticks, and a Black & Decker auto wrench for $4. Most of the memory is DDR1, which is good for any older machines sitting around.

Out of curiosity, how many of you guys have found great games on Saturdays from sales that have been happening since Friday?

Sometimes I see signs when I'm driving around on a Saturday for sales that are Fri + Sat and I usually just skip them because I assume all the good stuff would be gone.

It's really a tossup. You should try to get out early Friday, if possible (and often times, it's not), just for the people that are selling their NES and all their games, $5 for the lot or .50 Genesis games or whatever. But on the flipside, if they have say XBox games for $5-$10, they'll often sit and can be haggled Saturday for better deals if they're just gonna unload them at the local Goodwill/Salvation Army.

It also depends on the area and more importantly the crowd. I see a lot of old folks out on Friday, who usually pass over video games and other electronics.

Yeah, despite everything I think I'm going to at least try to go out tomorrow morning. there aren't a lot of sales announced yet, but that means I might have less competition. Maybe I'll even find something like my $20 instant collection from last year (which is still one of my all-time best finds).

In my area, all the garage sales start on Friday. Game stuff tends to go very fast in my area, so if you don't go out Friday, you don't find much. There usually isn't much game stuff to begin with and there is a lot of competition here. I really need a job, but it will be hard giving up yard saling, since it is something I really like. I'm tempted to look for a 2nd shift position, so I could still go out on Fridays.

Ha, awesome. I have the Genesis version...no intention of ever playing it, but it's just something you have to have.

As for my yard sale scores today:

SEGA Genesis Collection (PS2) $5
Not a fantastic price but I didn't want to CIF the old lady at the church.

NES & 2 controllers- $5
No cables, and I know a NES is considered a common garage sale find, but I took my chances. Hooked it up at home with my Genesis' power cable and a generic AV cable from my DVD player, and tested the only NES game I have (SMB3). I was prepared to be let down but it worked perfectly!

Namco plug-n-play thingy (brand new unopened) - $2
Goes for $17 at Wal-Mart. Not too bad.

What I learned today: indoor / multi-family sales are your friend.

Went out real early this morning, emailed a...

It's all in real good shape. No marker or stickers on anything.
Dude also had a lime green Gameboy color with the blue Pokemon cartridge. I didn't get it though, because he said $20 for everything, but I countered with a $10 in the face, he was hesitating and I said "well, I've got about $.75 cents in my pocket", showed it to him and he said "okay, everything except the Game Boy and game. We'll see if a little kid wants it or something." So I got everything except the Game Boy. So I got the whole N64 set for $10.70, I can't complain. He said he would email me if he found the Super Nintendo games, so hopefully if he does he still has the Game Boy too, it was mint, no scratches or anything! If I can get it for like a $1 I'll be happy. The one I have I bought like 10 years ago so it's scratched to shit. Hopefully ya'll have some good finds today.
dude, you may have shot yourslef in the foot, you should never CIF someone if you want them to call about other games!!!

GSailing is getting off to a slow start here, but I heard that my competition from last year is gone!! So that is good news. The only sale I ahve found so far was one where the homeowner was trying to sell a box of games for near Ebay prices, I should have CIF'd him but I had all the good games in the box, the only thing I grabbed was caddilacs and Dinosaurs for Segs CD, I just had to add it to my collection of weird games...from the smell of the case I think the previous owner had to add a little green herb to make the game funner!!

Anyone ever find a copy of Ninja Turtles hyperstone heist in the wild? I think it was the only ninja turtles genesis game
I have found 2 CIB copies, and 1 loose copy. I think the CIB copies came from someone that bought out an old rental store, they guy had tons of old games mostly CIB adn 2-3 copies of each.

SWAP MEET FINDS:

Actraiser SNES cart
The 7th Saga SNES cart
Streets of Rage genny 2 boxed
$5 total

Double Strike NES cart with torn label
25 cents
Is this rare at all? Its a weird unlicensed game that is black colored. :/

And.... one of The reason I look in the overpriced game dealers stores everytime:
Secret of mana SNES cart - $5
Thrown in with all the other snes games. The weirdest thing about it is that on the back written in marker is the initials JSW. Those are my initials. It must be my destiny to get that cart or some shit. XD

Or maybe you sent the cartridge back in time with your initials written on it to convince yourself that you are the one who must take down OnLive (Skynet) before it becomes self aware.

Think about it. You may be our only hope.

I doubt that, some places it may be, but around here people are holding onto their games, or holding out for high prices. some people are sellign for cheap, but in the past where people would throw away items for cash, noe they are taking more interest in what things are realy worth.

Well April is here so I thought I'd start off my season, even though it snowed yesterday. Low amount of sales advertised but a lot of unadvertised sales due to good weather today.

Duds of the day included a sale with an XBox console w/cords & controller for $45, and another sale from some of those people who re-sell crap they find elsewhere for crap prices (man I hate those), this included several old 360 sport games for $6 each, a bunch of cheapo XB/PS2/GC games for $6-10, and several of those cheap DVDs that are $5 at Walmart priced at $3-5 (used). Also passed on their $35 GameCube. I did pick up an old Dad's Root Beer bottle for a buck, I decorate the top of my entertainment center with old soda bottles.

I got my only VG items of the day at a sale run by a couple of teenage girls that advertised manga and anime...I'm not into that stuff but I knew if it were advertised there was a good shot there's be some old game stuff around. Picked up:

GBA Zelda Link to the Past $2.00
Pink GBA missing the battery cover $0.50
Green N64 with no cables $0.25

The N64 is in good shape except for a crack on one of the front corners...if it works then it makes a good backup, if not then it was just a quarter. No idea what I'll do with the GBA, if I ever pick up a battery cover I can give it to a female relative or something. They also had some Crash Bandicoot GBA game for $2, on second thought I should have just offered them $4 for everything.

Started the garage sale season here in Indianapolis on Saturday. Found 7 garage sales on my side of town...managed to make it to 6 of them...7th one they must have slept in or canceled.

Anyway, saw a box of PSX stuff at one of the sales and asked the guy what he wanted for the games...my eyes bulged out when I saw stuff like FF VII and other RPGS until I realized they were HK bootlegs. He said $10 for the box, but I countered with $5 for everything and he accepted.

Turns out he bought the PSX while overseas. It's an Asian model modified to play backups and came with all the cords. It also came with two official Sony controllers, a Madcatz 4-player adapter, an arcade stick, and two memory cards (one Sony, one third-party.

Also, not all the games were bootlegs. It came with the following official U.S. games:

1. Spongebob Squarepants: Supersponge (complete)
2. Monopoly (disc-only) in a Toy Story Racer case
3. Pong (disc-only)
4. Disney's AlladinL Nasira's Revenge (complete)
5. A Bug's Life (complete)
6. Stuart Little 2 (disc-only)
7. Disney's Atlantis (no manual, just the cover)
8. Spec Ops: Ranger Elite (complete)
9. NFL Gameday 99 (disc only)
10. Speedball 2100 (disc only)
11. Metal Gear Solid (Greatest Hits, missing manual, has both discs)

12. Dungeon Keep (disc-only, PC game?)
13. Kids Bop (music CD)

I won't bother to list the HK stuff.

Not rare, really. Depending on how bad the label is, it might fetch $5 on Ebay or good trade bait to a NES collector. A copy with a perfect label will fetch around $8.

Where abouts on Long Island are you from? It was the same for me yesterday.

Western Suffolk, south shore. I get the feeling there aren't too many hardcore game collectors prowling around here, and that there's just nothing around worth buying, but I could be totally wrong about that. I have hope that yard sale conditions will improve in the coming months.

Good finds Rictor and Slowdive, I'm totally jealous.

Oh, and I saw something I was kind of confused about. It was a copy of Gran Turismo 1, but it was 2-disc. Anybody know what that is? I know GT2 was in a 2-disc case but this definitely was the first game.

My Greatest Hits copy of Gran Turismo came in a 2-disc case, but was just a single disc. The case even says "1 disc" on the side and doesn't have a center hub to hold a disc in one of the sides...I think it was in the larger case because it came with a thick reference manual.

Well I haven't posted in a bit but finally have something to show:

This was a sale that seemed to advertise some games. I went hopeing for treasure and got some decent items. I picked up:

Chicken Little (GC)
The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (GC)
Looney Tunes: Back in Action (GC)
Shrek Treasure Hunt (PS1)
Blue's Big Musical (PS1)
Spongebob Squarepants: Best Day Ever (Music CD)

I ended up giving $9 for everything. I think that the GC games will act as good trade fodder in this case.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/3417065671/

This was an interesting find. I already had a Telstar Coleco but found this one for a buck so I picked it up. I didn't find much else at this one but this is what I ended up getting:

Telstar Coleco Game System
Pro Pinball: Big Race USA (PS1)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (GBA)

I ended up giving $5 for everything though.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/3417875606/

First sale of the day! I went to this sale first as it advertised stacks PS1 and PS2 games. Unfortunately, a stack was only 3 games... However, there were quite a few Game Boy games. I picked up the following:

Bomberman Quest (GBC)
Pocket Bomberman (GBC)
Game and Watch Gallery 3 (GBC)
Mickey Mouse: Magical Wands (GB)
Tak: The Great JuJu Challenge (GBA)
Namco Museum (GBA)
The Ant Bully (GBA)
Scooby-Doo: Unmasked (GBA)
Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius: Attack of the Twonkies (GBA)
Rugrats: Castle Capers (GBA)
Fairly-Odd Parrents: Shadow Showdown (GBA)

These were originally $2 each but I talked her into $10 for all of them which was a great deal!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/3417876930/

Not much of a story except I didn't buy enough. I pulled up to this sale and this guy had all his PC games marked $1 each. I only picked up Neverwinter Nights 2 but he also had Gothic 3 and some other quality titles as well.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/3417878304/

This sale I was very skeptical of. I passed it at first and went back and I was rewarded with a couple of good items. Upon pulling up, I immediatly spotted an SNES multitap. I picked it up as the night before we had three people over and were going to play Secret of Mana but didn't have a multitap. Fixed. Then I spotted a GBA. Thinking nothing of it, I picked it up. I looked and it didn't have a price. I went to the cashier and checked out and got all for $3.

Here's the interesting part of the story. The GBA is a limited edition Pokemon Center New York GBA. And it had Super Mario 4 advance in it as well. I did some research and can't find much on the GBA so if anyone know anything about it please let me know. Now lets recap:

SNES Multitap
Pokemon Center New York GBA
SMA 4: SMB3

Total - $3

i have a question for pretty much everyone in the thread. do you just buy pretty much any game that you don't have (at least, if it's fairly cheap)? i just say this because i see a decent amount of people who buy games that are really common, and i usually pass on them.

I think it depends on where you live and what you do with the games. I pretty much buy any non sport/non kid game if it is cheap/an old console. I know I can easily recoup $1 or $2 if I have a GS of my own. (If I don't want to keep it).
I live in Chicago, so there are not as many deals on games. Someone who lives on the coasts probably has a better chance of finding deals, since stores have larger selections of games/Anime).

I stopped looking for stuff I could "resell" a long time ago. Nobody around here buys games, and companies like GameStop are barely staying above water. Play N Trade does a lot of 'classic' stuff, but they know they're the only game in town and raise the prices to insane amounts ($9.99 for the original Tomb Raider on PSX, for instance, with a grand trade in value of 50 cents. Hell of a markup). If I can send it off on Goozex for more than 100 points, I'll buy it, otherwise I'm looking specifically for stuff I want for my personal collection. Sad, but true..

My first priority when looking for games, is to find ones that I want for my collection. I next look for games and systems that I can clean up and sell. For example, I picked up an snes two weeks ago for $5. I cleaned it up and I think I'll try selling it on craigslist for $25. I generally look for stuff that I can sell on craigslist or ebay. I don't grab everything I see. I try not to be greedy.

The big problem is that I've been seeing less and less games lately in my area. I stick to the NE and sometimes to the NW sides of Fort Wayne. I imagine I'm having to deal with other gamers, moms with kids, ebayers who grab everything, and I've heard someone mention that there are some people who pick up stuff for McVans. It's just really annoying to go through several neighborhoods and only come away with a handful of games. I suppose the second largest city in Indiana isn't that great a area for games, especially classic games. I've been really want to find more snes games.

Eh when i'm in a thrift store, or a rummage sale and I see something, as long as it's not a sports game (sometimes), if its a buck, 3 bucks or some change, I'll grab it.

Never know what it will be worth someday. Or just keep it for myself.

I'd be interested in those HK games. Any pics?

They're bootlegs...color photocopies for labels...you could do better these days with a photo printer and disc labeler. I booted up a few of them to test the system and controllers, however. One disc had a Sega Master System emulator on it and a bunch of SMS games.

Western Suffolk, as in the border of Nassau? I'm more towards the Riverhead area, and know for sure, that there are collectors out in these parts. I especially find it troubling when I go to a yard sale, even if it's early (say 8 - 9 AM), and inquire about video games (when there isn't any out or displayed) and get this response: "Wow, that's the tenth time I have been asked that! No, I sold them 15 minutes ago."

Yeah, pretty close to the border. If those yard sale hounds are around here I don't stand a chance against them. I don't have my own car and getting a ride that early just to look for cheap junk is not easy. Then again I've never tried asking about video game stuff, I figure if it's not outside they don't want to sell it. Eh, I'm kind of a wuss about the whole thing I guess, but it's still good fun.

I really didn't know where to post this so if it's in the wrong forum, sorry about that. I found this site a few days ago and decided to join. it has already paid major dividends ( I used to buy all my stuff off ebay and amazon :wall:)

I decided to go a local flea market to look for some games. As soon as i walked in there was a stand with nes, snes, and n64 games. Some had prices and some didn't. I was looking at the prices and almost walked away. $40 for super mario kart snes, $20 for legend of zelda nes, $30 for super mario world snes, etc. Right as I was about to look around some where else I find Final Fantasy 3 (snes) without a price on it. I ask how much, lady says $20. I CIF'd $5 said no but countered with $10. Sweet... been looking for this game under $20 and to find it for $10 was awesome.

Then I find another stand that had nes games. I asked how much and she said $3 each. There was rad racer, excitebike, narc, pretty common games. Then I see an nes system next to the stack and on top was..... DRAGON WARRIOR IV (nes)!!!!!! in excellent condition. Picked that up with excitebike, gradius, rad racer. I really didn't know how expensive this was. I thought it would be like $20 or so on ebay/amazon but when I got back and checked online it was around $50. I almost soiled myself when I saw the prices.

Recap:
FF3 (SNES) - $10
Dragon Warrior IV (NES)- $3
Excitebike, Gradius, Rad Racer- $9 ( I know I probably over paid for these but hey I'm used to ebay prices with shipping and all that)

THANKS FOR READING!:D

PS For anyone with Dragon Warrior IV on the nes, is the back caution sticker supposed to be gold or gray (like every other nes game i have seen)

Castlevania, Punch Out, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Yo Noid - $7
Mega Man 6 - $5 (This is sweet, this completes my NES mega man collection, now I need boxes and manuals)
Zelda MM - $10 (complete)
Starcraft 64 - $5
Tiny Toons 2 (game and box) - $3

Total - $30

Not much for the $30 this week, but some good stuff.

Kuros, after almost two years of seeing you score some pretty decent stuff, I'd love to see a full collection picture. Good stuff.

Well, hit my first sale of the year. Weather here has been absolute crap. 2 weeks ago, we were in blizzard-like conditions and had 18 inches of snow over the course of 18 hours. The following week, it was 72 and windy as shit, with gusts of up to 60mph. This morning is a bit chilly, but I wanted to hit up one sale before work.

So.....

Found Wii Dance Dance party w/ the mat for $50. I walked away, very very quickly.

Planning on heading out tomorrow morning as well. Finally some nice weather!

First yard sales of the season were today. Only 3 sales, but I still found a green N64 with 1 controller, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 for $8. Not the greatest deal, but Mario 64 I didn't have and I can flip the rest. I was just happy to find something on the first day of the season.

A Pioneer CLD-A100 Laseractive with Goldeneye on laserdisc. They wanted $50, but I was able to get them down to $40. It's more than I really should spend right now, but I couldn't pass on that. It's working good so far, except for a problem with laserdisc not always ejecting when I tell it to.

good find, erehwon. i've had one of those for a few years now, with the Sega pak and the karaoke pak. unfortunately, i've never found the Turbografx pak in the wild, and it's incredibly expensive online. i do have a handful of the Sega Laseractive titles, and those are kind of cool. before DVDs came on the scene, this sat next to my TV; i amassed a sizable LD collection which now, unfortunately, is only taking up space. awful things. at least the player's cool.

Final Fantasy XI Online for PS2 (still sealed!)
Electronic Arts Genesis Multitap

I went to six sales and, nothing. So, upset, I went to Blockbuster and nabbed the following new games for the 360: Guitar Hero III ($5), Armored Core 4 ($15), and Sega Rally Revo ($10). They had a bunch of other stuff, but I didn't bring much cash with me.

One garage sale that did advertise games never took place. I drove by the address twice after it was supposed to start. Kinda ticked off, but whatever, I'm happy with my other purchases.

I went sale to sale and did not find any games because someone already bought them (probably the same guy) or they just didn't have any. It wasn't a total bust... I got Independence Day sealed on DVD for $2 (I know the movie isn't the greatest but I like it). I don't think I'll try yard saling again... I hate driving around a lot. I really hate dealing with people like that. The neighborhood sale I went to this morning started at 8 when the paper said 9, and there were people there at 7:30. It was also very busy when it usually isn't that bad. I'm guessing more people are out looking for deals with the economy the way it is.

I am lucky I live in a rural area.

Not a lot of people Ebay here.

I got a Sega Saturn (power cord only) and a GB Advance SP (no charger but mint screen) for $15.

I dunno if I am ever going to top last year... I got a Japanese PS2 and 48 PS1 and PS2 games for it. (however, the only one in English was FFX International) I paid $100.00 but I felt it was well worth it. I already made back $35 by selling two of the games to friends.

I hit up the two yard sales in my town today and it was a fairly crappy day. At the first, I snagged a Thomas and a Power Rangers VHS for .25 each for my nephews, as well as He-Man volume 4 for my He-Man loving friend (again .25). I was shocked and slightly tempted by... Shane's World Volume 21, for a quarter. Yeah... a porno in abox with pretty much all kid's movies.

After getting home, I decided to walk a little over 2 miles the outskirts of town (in the other direction of my house) to a multi-family yard sale. I get out there and... junk pretty much. I ended up buying an 8 port ethernet hub for $2 for my dad (he needs something just to hook his printers up to). I mainly bought it as I didn't wanna go home empty handed. The only video games I saw were there... Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the Wii for $125 (too steep for a yardsale price and a game that's pretty much worthless even new now) oh... and the back case with no disc to The Italian Job for the PS which I think was accidentally left in the box of VHS tapes.

My feet hurt. :( Hopefully next week is more decent.

That ALWAYS happens in this area. There are good sales here but people get up really early in the morning and go to the sales at like 5 and 6 AM...

I suppose you just have to get lucky or look for stuff that most people don't know the value of.

First weekend of sales for me:

Got a box that looks like its for genesis games that says "game stuff" on it for 1$ then I got Nintendogs Dalmation and friends for the DS for 4$. The sticker price said 5 but I gave them 4 and they took it, it was loose cart only. I think I did pretty good.

What are you guys paying for DS games, and what do you think is a good price to pay for them if you see them in the wild?

I don't think I can possibly top last year either, it was truly a record year for me when it came to game buys.

Pricing is based from sale to sale here, I don't think you can really predict prices as a whole because its always different. If someone seems to want a lot for everything at the sale then I just walk and go to the next sale (there will always be another sale).

Actually had some time this weekend to stop in at a few sales, the game selection was ass though. Went to a few sales listed on craigslist advertising "video games" that I couldn't contact beforehand (no contact info, only the address and time of the sale). They all had nothing but crap.

So I stopped by a couple of other sales as I was running about LA, and at one a lady was selling her husband's old Beattles records. She wanted $2 a piece, but I CiF'd her $10 ($5 and 5 $1's, to make it look like more LOL) and scored 12 albums, all originals as far as I can tell, records mostly in excellent shape with various levels of quality to the original record holders:

White Album x2 (one is missing record #2, these are 2 record sets)
Magical Mystery Tour x2 (one has the insert photo book inner pages torn out)
Hey, Jude
Let It Be
Hard Day's Night
Abbey Road
Yellow Submarine
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Beattles '65

I forget, are you in Indy or Fort Wayne? It definitely seem like there is more competition here. I've heard from some people running sales that they've had people arriving like a hour early to sales. Honestly, my finds in my area have always been quite modest, but have rather declined over the last year.

Could be McVans or ebayers or flea market people? I don't know. At times, I wonder if the area is just been tapped dry of classic game stuff. I'm thinking I might need to try different areas of the city or spreading out into the rest of the county.

Wow, I think I already had my Garage Sale find of the year last Saturday.
Was the first sale we went to, advertised video games in the ad. There was a huge folding table covered with games and movies. About half PS2, then some PS1, Dreamcast, SNES, N64, a few NES and two Genesis games.

I looked through them, talked to the guy who was standing nearby. His English not so good. He gave me a total for what I was holding, $18.00, then he called over another guy. I looked for another minute, then asked the second guy if he would sell them all together.

Offered him $100. He said ok, but not including these, pointed to the ones I had picked out. I said, alright, I've got $112 for everything, do you have a box to put it in? We agreed, they gave me two nice plastic totes, I packed everything up, paid him, took it to the car and headed out. Got back to the car and my wife is laughing at me says I'm just about bouncing I'm so happy.

Finally counted them tonight, 155 games including 4 sealed, 12 movies, an Action Replay and some demos and previews. I'd say only about a third are sports games. Standouts are Force Unleashed, Arc the Lad, Goldeneye, Ready 2 Rumble, Mace, Marios Bros., Alien Hominid, Gungrave. Just now as I as counting them I saw NBA 2k3 for Gamecube, and was like woohoo!, then I realized I was thinking of NCAA.

'tis the season. I'm psyched for this summer's yard sailing, it's odd how much fun I find it to go to yard sales in search of retro gaming goodness. Not even playing the games so much as finding good deals, building a collection...hell I even kinda like cleaning the games. Remember to post pics people, it makes this topic so much more interesting.

Gonna hit up a neighborhood yard sale this weekend. These seem to be hit or miss for me, either I score a lot or score almost nothing. Last neighboorhood sale I scored like Parappa the Rapper (PS1), Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy XII, Destroy All Humans 1 and 2, Jak 2, Jak 3, Ratchet 2, Ratchet 3, Resident Evil Outbreak, and like 5 other PS2 games all for $15...but then the sale before that I got a Rubiks Cube for 75 cents. Woo.

I have a question for the more experienced yard salers here. If you see something like an NES and 15-20 games marked at like $70, how do you approach the haggle? I feel like I'd be outright insulting them and get nowhere if I just offered $20. Or do you just pass it by?

I'd just pass on something like that if it was abunch of common games and something that realistically is really only worth about that even on some place were they could get more money like eBay. If I was more interested in it I'd make an offer I'd be willing to pay and if they didn't want to play ball I'd politely ask if they would reconsider and come down in price if they were still sitting on it at the end of the day. If they don't seem interested in any of that it's really no use if they won't come down much if at all as they would surely rather just sit on it if they can't get the premium they want for it.

Also look for something wrong with it has a reasoning behind your lower offer (bad condition NES games that may not work, missing parts etc.) Also I've never done it before but I do remember SnotKnocker suggest in a case were somebody gets insulted coming back with a "hey you can't blame a guy for trying" to try and lighten up the mood if they ain't too pleased with your offer :D

FOnewearl's advice is spot on, absolutely SPOT ON. Honestly, if you can't live without it, then just walk away. But absolutely, at the very least, give it a try. You never know until you make that Cash in Face offer whether you will get a steal, or maybe even a counter offer.

And another option is, if they don't bite for the bundle, try and quickly calculate a "good price on individual games in the bundle.

For example, say you make a bid for a PS1 bundle with nothing good except for a Final Fantasy 7, complete. Everything else is "meh", but the guy wants $100 for a bundle of 10 shit games and a PS1, including that complete FF7. Offer him $5-10 for that game alone, and he might bite. or even $20. If he still balks at it, try and convince him that based on his asking price, it's a great deal because he'd be getting whatever bonus, not including the system, for "just one game alone".

It works very often for me, with cash dangling in the face, plus I don't have to haul home a shit bundle for a crap system I already have enough of - think an N64 plus 10 shitty games just to get a Mario Kart or Smash Brothers, or a PS1 just to get FF7 or some other hot RPG.

today was pretty much a bust. There's a festival in a town about 20 miles away, so we went out that way to do yard sales. We hit probably around 30 or so sales, and I got:

2x Gameboy Color (1 yellow missing battery cover, 1 green)
Link Cable
GBC Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
GBC Game and Watch Gallery 3
GBC Pokemon the Card Game
and a carrying case for all of it

Total: $5

This was just sitting on a table marked $5. When I got to this sale there was a guy with a scanner going through a stack of CDs/DVDs. I ran into this guy at like 8 different sales. Another problem I'm having yard saling is when I get something that has someone's initials on it and you just can't haggle it because that person isn't there.

Pink Game Boy Advance with GBA Frogger

Total: $1

No story here either, it was marked $1...

NES w Mario/Duck Hunt (no cords or controllers)
SNES Rise of the Robots
SNES Jurrasic Park
N64 Perfect Dark
(some books and other stuff my wife got)

Total: $5

This was at the first sale we passed, but it was closed at the time, so it ended up being the last one we went to. The NES was sticking out of a box marked Goodwill right at the front of the sale and the games were tucked on a shelf. This sale was *huge*. It was a barn packed full of stuff. The aisles were like 2 feet wide and things were stacked on shelves really high up. We spent probably 20 minutes scouring the area for stuff. CIF'ed a $5 and he took it.

There should be even more sales tomorrow so we're going back out.

I had a situation similar to this last week. There was a game boy Color lot for $30 with 4 Pokemon games and several junk titles. Although the seller didn't want to break up the lot, I was able to convince her that by selling me the 4 Pokemon games for $10, and selling the rest of the lot at $25 to someone else, she would actually make more money.

it always works better for me to not cif just offer the money because I will always accidently pull more money than I'm offering them out of my pocket.

and if i saw an nes bundle like that I would either make him an offer on all the games that are worth any money, or offer him $30 for all and see what happens, pointing out all of the flaws.

I usually go to another part of the sale and discreetly pull out what I am willing to offer then I go and do the CIF. It will work about 97% of the time.

Also, get yourself a tote bag or bring some sort of bag with you. It will save you the problem of not having a bag to put your precious finds in, especially if you are going to multiple sales on the same block or walking from sale to sale. The sellers usually have bags but its a pain to walk down the street with a N64 or something slightly heavy that is tearing the bag they give you, and you might run into a sale where they are out of bags. You can make your exit faster and get to the next sale faster if you don't have to wait for them to bag up the merchandise too.

Found a great score at a rummage sale today. I got Chrono Trigger, FF II, FF III, Gradius III, Starfox, Link to the past, 7th saga, Super Star Wars, and Super Empire Strikes Back for .50 a piece for the SNES. All but Chrono Trigger are still in the original boxes. They originally had $8.00 on each of them but I took up some without prices and they said .50 a piece, so I grabbed the rest.

Curse of Monkey Island $2 complete
Super Nintendo $25 It's complete except for a the game. It's more than I should have spent, but the box is in awesome shape and so is the console. It is in very good condition. I'm debating selling, but I really like having boxes for my consoles. The lady threw in the playstation games for free. There really isn't anything of value there.

Today's finds were a bunch of PC games. Actually, I found them last year too, at the same house. I looked through them but didn't know the value on anything, then came home and checked eBay for Planescape and found that it's usually good for around $50! Seeing it there again this year was a very nice surprise. Some of the other games are still worth a few bucks, too.

Blade of Darkness
Daikatana
Daggerfall
Enclave
Gunman Chronicles
Heretic II
Lands of Lore III
Lionheart
Omikron: The Nomad Soul
Outcast
Planescape Torment
Quest For Glory V
Realms of the Haunting

Total: $10

Also a non-yard sale find yesterday that I'd also seen before! I spotted a PS2 Network Adapter in Walmart's clearance section for $20 a couple weeks ago, checked the eBay price at home, and decided to grab it if it was still there later. Last night, I found it in a different clearance section for $10! Not bad at all, one of the few Walmart clearance deals I've come across.

Pretty excited and hoping for some nice finds!

I made it to a town wide sale near me today (friday). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go on saturday due to work. About half of the 60 listed sales were up and going. Most were busts, but I did pick up some CD's and DVD's for $15, including two seasons of CSI and Season One of Malcolm in the Middle. The rest of the CD's and DVD's will sell for about $30 on SecondSpin. I also picked up a Sega Nomad for $1. The screen is scratched up, and there are no cables with it, but I've never owned before.

Mostly wrestling games and Turok games.

Worse comes to to worse you can replace the screen. There are many power cord replacement options. If it works that is one hell of a deal!!!

Today wasn't bad. Picked up Zelda TP (GCN), Animal Crossing (GCN/PC) and 2 original SNES controllers for $12. They also had a loose Mario Paint mouse, but no SNES games and no SNES console.

I did find a Genesis (V2) with about 10-12 common games marked at $20. I offered $10 thinking I was being extremely generous, and he countered with $15. He then went on to tell me that controller port 2 doesn't work. I walked away.

Oh yeah, I also got to pet a bunny. :)

Today's find:

N64 w/ Hookups, 2 Controllers, Expansion Pak
Jumper Pak
4x Memory Card
007 The World Is Not Enough
Doom 64
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Mission: Impossible
Perfect Dark
Quake

Total: $20

Went back to one house from yesterday that said they'd bring over some games for me today, but the person who said they would hadn't arrived yet. Left my number in case it's anything good. Then went out to a big neighborhood sale. Found this at the last house we went to, right by my car. I looked at the sale from across the street, saw lots of girl stuff, and decided to pass. Looked at it on the way back, and right behind all the My Little Pony stuff were these games! 007 and Quake were missing from my collection, as well as the black controller, so that's nice. Oh, and the 32X Doom manual was in the Doom 64 box, that was funny to find.

I didn't have much luck at all this weekend except for one pretty good deal.

Friday I went out to a community sale that advertised nintendo games. One sale had a couple NES games and I picked up Zelda, Dr. Mario, and Donkey Kong Classics for $2. The sale that had the games advertised had some NES and SNES games that didn't seem worthwhile.

That was everything until I got back home and saw a new craigslist post for a 10am sale with N64 games. I had to be at my university at 10 but since it was one my way, I stopped by at 9:45 just to see if I could determine whether the games were good. He said the games were at his other house and I gave him my number. I did pick up Brave Fencer Mushashi and Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring Box set for $3 while I was there.

Later, I talked to the guy I gave my number to and I ended up picking up 2 N64s (I tested one and it works with an Expansion pack which I didn't have) and 15 games. I looked at the games and saw DK64 and a few games I used to own growing up and got nostalgic. He asked for $10 and I accepted. I wasn't even wanting the consoles (except for the expansion pack) but they were a nice bonus.

Today I didn't find much of anything. I went to a community sale but I didn't know when it started. I got there at 7:30 and it was crowded. I saw a boxed PS1 with some worthless games marked 25 and didn't even bother to make an offer. Another sale I asked about games and a young girl brought out her PS2 games which were all children's games. I passed. The only thing I got today was a universal RF adaptor for $1. One of the N64s I got yesterday didn't have the A/V cable and I'm sure I'll get more stuff missing the cables.

So despite going to about 50 sales or so from all the community sales, I ended up only getting one good deal. It makes me want to only go to sales that advertise games, but on the other hand some of the best deals may come from just that one random sale you find unadvertised...

NES:

Donkey Kong Classics
Dr. Mario
Zelda

N64

Donkey Kong 64
Win Back
Off Road Challenege
San Franciso Rush
Toy Story 2
WCW vs NWO
BattleTanx
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire
Turok Rage Wars
007 Goldeneye
Turok
Road Rash 64
South Park

PS1
Brave Fencer Mushashi

Universal RF Adaptor

Total Spent:$16

Most of the games were too dirty to play but I've gotten about half of them to work with some cleaning. The others should play with a second cleaning or third cleaning.

I did get a box of old Nintendo Powers -- which included strategy guides for Pokemon Yellow/Red/blue, Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby, and Super Mario Advance 4 -- all for $1. First yard sale day of the year and first post ever in the thread! :applause:

Muncie, IN area - Went out with my sister, niece and nephew today. Was mostly a bust - went to a couple of neighborhood rummages, but they were either filled with "old people" stuff (glassware, fabrics / sewing materials, antiques and the like) or tools.

Went to some individual sales too; a few had some games (mostly GC, PS2, and XBox), but I'd say a good 75% of them didn't come with the manuals and/or were sports games that I'm not interested in regardless, all priced for at least $4 a game (saw some upwards of $5 and $6). Is it just me, or is that WAY too high of a price to ask for a game with no manual? o_O

Finally found something of value - a Logitech driving wheel for the Gamecube for $2. Was absolutely filthy, and I was afraid that it wouldn't work, but I figured for $2, it was worth a shot. Cleaned it up and it works just fine, so that made my day, really. In retrospect, I should've taken a picture of it before and after the cleaning so you all could see it, but alas, my memory failed me at the time.

Same sale had a N64 with no price on it. Started looking it over to make sure all of the cords were there, etc. and saw that the end of the AV cord was damaged - as in, it's NOT going to plug into someone's TV. Why people even try to sell stuff like that is beyond me.

So yeah, one game related purchase, and not much else to speak of. Did find four Pokemon VHS tapes (the ones with episodes from the very first season) that were in really good condition for $0.25 a piece and two Shel Silverstein books: Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic, both hardback, both for a quarter a piece as well (grew up reading his stuff - FANTASTIC price after seeing that Target has them for $15 a piece).

Already made plans to go out next weekend as well - hopefully I'll fare better.

First time going out since 2007. School, an internship at GameTrailers.com and not enough time kept me out.

But I am back, went to the local flea market today and got the following:

SNES:

Star Fox
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Mario Kart
Mortal Kombat II
Jurrasic Park
Ken Griffy Jr Baseball

N64:

Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye

All of those for $10, not bad but some decent games in there.

Then I got a box of Atari 5200 games for $5, which to be honest, I have never seen in the wild before. I usually see the 2600 stuff. Amazing to see the genesis of Atari's down fall in these slightly upgraded carts.

Wassup! Good to see this thread is still alive and kicking. Also good to see a bunch of new posters.

Had my first organized outing of the season yesterday and scored quite a bit of awesomeness. I'll try and get pics and stories up between today and tomorrow.

Hoping to get out more this season than last. Between injury and work, last season was mediocre for me to say the least. This year I won't be working Saturdays and have recovered from my back injury so ................ with a little help from the yard sale gods I'll be able to build my collection and score some great items to flip. If yesterday was any indication how the season will be I'd have to say I'm off to an awesome start.

To the guy that was afraid to lowball offer on something. This type of reservation will definately cause you to lose out on some good deals. "Always, always, make an offer, no matter what" You never know what someone is willing to take and if they get insulted do say something like "You can't blame a guy for trying" or just wish em a nice day and leave. Bottom line is you'll probably never buy anything from them anyway or for that matter ever see them again. I can't count the number of times that someone's IAP was absurd and I walked away with the goods at an amazing price.

And to you newbs, check out the Wiki and the threads from previous years theres tons and tons of good info to enhance your YS skills.

Catch up with you later!

I keep singles in my pocket, folded once and count them out with my fingertips. I can then pull out exactly the amount I want to CIF. I do what saraab does if it it a more expensive item. I also carry a quarter with me because it doesn't jingle, and it allows me to CIF less than $1 amounts without breaking $1. 8-)

Haven't even seen any systems or games I am even interested in so far this year, but I did score a GB color hard case shaped like a GB fo r.50. It is big and purple and mint condition, so I couldn't resist. I am sure some parent bought it for their kid who HATED it and it sat in a closet until the sale. It's hilarious.

Scored a few decent items. I went to 5 random sales and found nothing, then I hit up a neighborhood sale and got some finds. Both times I had to ask and they went into their house to grab them (remember to ask folks! I would have found very little in my small yard sale career if I didn't ask at every sale).

This was the first house I hit in the neighborhood sale. I asked for games, and the husband came out with this:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j234/Nintendofankid/boxedn64.jpg

Wound up getting it for $25. The games aren't that good, which is too bad, because everything was in IMMACULATE condition. I mean, the controllers still had the twisty ties around the wires. Games were ALL complete, and the system had manuals/styrofoam inserts.

The games were Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, NFL Blitz 2000, NBA Live 2000, Madden '99, Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, NBA Hang Time. 4 controllers, a rumble pak, and two memory cards.

The only other find was at another house, and when I asked for games the three women sitting there said no. But then the husband said yes (I've noticed the women never seem to know whether or not they have games). He pulled out 5 Xbox games from his basement, and then I asked if he had the system to sell, and he went and got that.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j234/Nintendofankid/cagxbox.jpg

$20 for the lot. I needed a headset and wanted Halo 2, so those are going to my collection. Xbox's aren't worth much but it was in great condition and I've never owned an original Xbox, so I thought it was a decent deal. The guy asked if I was interested in DVDs and I said not right now, but in retrospect I should have seen what he had.

My outing yesterday was a town wide sale. Hit probably 70-80+ in about 6 hours with a 20 minute break to get some refreshment. I was well prepared with cargo shorts pockets filled with different denominations of cash for quick CIF and my GPS and a town map so I did'nt wander aimlessly or repeat sales I already hit. I was out at 7:30 and got probably 50% of the gaming goodies before 10 AM

In no particular order

116 authentic DVD's from 3 different sales
65 DVD"s - $20
38 DVD's - $15
13 DVD's - $5
All sales were asking $1.00 ea. CIF'd said amounts and was accepted without any countering. There were tons of DVD's at different sales but most were 3-5 each. I almost passed on the 13 for 5 but there were some classics like Spaceballs, The Jerk and Caddyshack - so I had tpo bite.

Individual sales
DKC, SMB3, Topsy Turvy, Yoshi's Island - TOTAL $4
SMB Deluxe - TOTAL $2
Crash of the Titans - TOTAL $4
Pokemon Ruby - Total $3
CIF'd $4 for the first 4 games, SMB IAP was $2 and would not budge, Pokemon game was from some little kid about 11 or 12 with an awesome retro 70's Black Sabbeth tour shirt. We struck up a conversation and he was a guitarist and heavy into classic rock, I thought he was cool so I CIF'd $3 more than I would normally would for a game. The crash game was from another little kid who wanted $4 a game - he had like 3 or 4. I initially passed thinking he would be able to sell it for $4 to someone, he also had a little lemonade stand and I went to purchase a cup and he was like "mister you sure you don't want to buy that game" he had like these sad eyes and s*it and he totally got me. I know he collects soundtracks but not sure if he got this one yet.

That DVD deal has to be one of the best I've ever seen! DVD's around here are 3 and 4 bucks a piece - good luck even trying to talk someone into $1, let alone the deal you made out with. I would have bought them all, and quickly ran to the local mom-and-pop shop to trade in the ones I already had. :)

Please, please, PLEASE come tell that to the people in my neighborhood. :-P I have a PS3, so it's not as if I HAVE to stick with DVD's, but I don't have an HDTV, so I'd much rather save all the cash I can on regular DVD's, rather than the upgrades.

I disagree I think he might have pulled far enough a head already to be the surefire winner for the year lol He bought more good video game stuff this weekend then I saw bad video games that I passed on (almost all garbage only good games I can remember at all were Resident Evil 4 for the Cube & Goldeneye for then N64 at the flea for probably about $3-5 each) at a total of 9 yardsales and at the flea market, only thing I actually picked up was an extra Model 2 Genesis AC Adaptor for a buck at the flea.

@SnotKnocker - I take it that box of 25 SNES games has the best on top? I'm just wondering if anything good is hidden underneth them.

Went to a bunch of community sales on Fri. as I had the day off. Found lots of baby clothes and toys for the upcoming CAG in training. Video game finds:

Yourself Fitness (Xbox) Complete - $1
MechAssault 2 (Xbox) Complete - $.50
A stack of random disc-only PC games for Goozex - 10 cents each.
DDR Extreme (PS2) Complete - $3

Big Optimus Prime toy and 12" Sand Scorpion GI Joe - 50 cents each
Making of Disney's Snow White hardcover book - thrown in free with Xbox games above

FF VII: Dirge of Cerberus (PS2) Complete - $3
Some random Wii kids Pet game (I forget the title) - $5

Saw a stack of NES carts at one garage sale...no prices...old guy comes out and says $2 each. I saw Bases Loaded 4 and some other decent games. He said $2 a cart...also said he had a NES and a bunch more games in the basement...just hadn't found them yet. I wanted to make him an offer on everything, but he said he wouldn't be able to find that stuff until the next day. I guess I should have made an offer on the just the 8 carts that were there, but passed.

Had my own garage sale on Saturday (neighborhood sale) so couldn't get back to the NES sale. Made $430 though, including $5 for the MechAssault game I bought for $.50 the day before.

That's one thing I kept my eyes on the look out for. You can do a lot with a router using DD-WRT or Tomato. The one I found and modded is sitting in my closet just as an extra or I can use it as a wireless bridge.

Bro picked up some NES Games last week for me - $1 a piece

Popeye
SMB 2
SMB 3
Tetris
Dr Mario
Crystalis
Kid Icarus
Zelda Gold (really beat up)
Castlevania I
Castlevania II

Told brother to pass on SMB/DH and some other common titles.

My yard-saling was limited to children's books (huge box of like 100+ for $6) and a cast iron Emeril pan for $1. No video games, other than some way overpriced sport games. Thats two weeks I strike out for games.

Didn't grab a ton today. But did get a few ok finds...

Street Fighter 2010 (NES) cart only $1
TF Unicron Action Figure (missing some pieces) $3
Tupperware melonballer, pill holder, orange peeler... $0.25 each
Tupperware collapsable containter $2 (new)

Snagged the Unicron since I saw one at a toy show last weekend with fewer pieces for $10. The only thing I'm really burnt up about is the chest piece. It looks really empty. I don't care about the planet halves since I don't ever like my figures in alt. mode.

Boy, it's been pretty dry around northern Minnesota. Went out early this morning, grabbed 2 Gameboy Advance SP's (unfortunately without chargers), Mortal Kombat 4 for original Gameboy, Zelda Classics Advance, Zelda Four Swords Advance, all for $13...a little too much IMO, but I'm still learnin'. Also got Resident Evil Director's Cut (2 disc black label edition) for 75 cents. Last sale I went to had 2 Gameboy Color systems at $15 each, and a couple Pokemon Gameboy games for $6 each. Fuck. She said she would come down in price, but I just passed. If I had smaller bills I would have done a CIF of $5 or $10, but unfortunately I only had two Twenty's on me and about a buck and a half in quarters. I need to learn not to bring the bigger bills to the yard sales. Anyone know where I can get 2 Gameboy SP charger's for really cheap?

If you try to haggle with people and then they see you whip out a big fat wallet with all kinds of 20's there's a chance they'll say forget it and they'll want you to pay full price

I was only in 1 CIF situation ever and I gave the guy a 20 to make change and he gave me a weird look. Probably because he thought i was being a cheap ass but oh well.

I CIF'ed a guy $20 for a Mountain Dew XBox with like 7 games. Mainly because I wasn't sure if the system worked, none of the games overly interested me and it lacked controllers (my friend was holding onto two I had "extended length leant him") I told him though when I offered that, I had a little more but I needed smokes for work as I just started and didn't have my bank account set up yet. He went for it, although tbf, it was late Sunday, so if he wouldn't have, I would've just gotten his number and gotten the money to him the next weekend when I was off.

Dang, I usually have $100 on me at the most, most of which I'll have in 1's and 5's, with a couple 10's. There's gotta be some kind of art to the CIF. I'm never sure how to word it or how close to hold the cash. I think snotknocker needs to take a video camera with him for educational reasons.

Just got back from the flea market and spotted a few things. There weren't to many video game people out today. Inside was only a dealer. Outside were all the regular folks with table stuff. I had to buy a new RF tv adapter for the sega because the old one was all rotted out and busted. It looked like a wolf shredded the wire up. I threw it out immediately. Also found some loose NES carts for my collection :) CIF'd the guy 5 bucks and he bit. The sun was beating down on me and the place was crowded to hell so I just left.

Sega Genesis Type 1 + 2 "Mega Fire" controllers + mini controller + Sonic the hedgehog 1 - $18
4 NES carts - Gyromite, Bases Loaded, JAWS, Sesame Street - $5
NES/Sega RF Adapter (new) - $10
Sonic The hedgehog 2 (cart only) $7 - I know, i know, I overpaid. But I love the game so much it's worth it to me and I didn't have it.....

http://i41.tinypic.com/2vi04mx.jpg

As the guy was handing me the sega I thought in my mind i bet it's not even gonna work........the guy shouted out as I walked away saying that he guaranteed it would work and if not he'd give me my money back. Nice old guy. Not many people guarantee stuff nowadays. Just fired it up and it works great!

I'd love to learn some real CIF techiniques so I can REALLY start haggling people down.

Went to about 20 sales today and didn't find hardly anything for the video game side of things.
I passed on an Atair 2600 Volleyball cart for $1 and I found a few old PS1 and PS2 games at about $3-$5 a piece...nothing worth more than about a quarter though. Mostly old sports titles.

I did, however, find a couple subs in a box that look like they are brand new and they work perfect, got them for only $20. I should be able to unload this within a couple days for atleast $75-$100 bucks. They are nothing great but I couldn't pass them up for $20. Hell the box alone is worth more than that. This alone made the 20 sales worth while.

Playstation 2 Network Adaptor - $3

Retro Duo With 2 Controllers AC Adaptor & S-Video/Audio Video Thing Hook Up

Mappy Land
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Spy Vs Spy

Madden 95
NHL 94
Super Mario All-Stars

$5

Found the Playstation 2 Network Adaptor marked $5 offered $3 which was taken NP, when I got home I saw that underneth the $5 in marker it's labed $10 in pen as if it was out at a yardsale in a previous year and didn't sell. I also got the Retro Duo at the same sale asked the kid about video games and he mentioned having a Nintendo with a few games at his place but couldn't leave until somebody else got back to watch the sale or something so I stopped back about an hour later and we went over to his place a few blocks away, he showed it to me and I offered $5 which he gladly accepted since he really didn't like the older games as he was telling me, said he got the system with a GameCube he bought a while back for $175 so you know it had to have been a while ago that he got the Cube :D

I actually needed Mappy Land for my collection ever since I just missed out one 3 years ago at the flea market when I saw someone else buying it and have been hoping to find it in the wild since I didn't want to resort to eBay since I probably wouldn't be able to get it for less then $4 shipped. It's funny how I have so many NES games yet I still (sometimes) find a game I don't have that's decent when I find a handful of games in the wild (like Ring King last year).

Misc Toy Crap

2 He-Man Figures - .20

2 He Man figures at .10 each, the green guy (Kobra Khan) is actually one of the cooler (if not the coolest!) He Man figures. I used to have him way back in the day and you can take his head off and fill him with water and press his head down to make him spray mist as I'm sure a few reading this will remember.

Diddy Kong Toy - .50

Found him in a box with 8 different action figures marked .50 each, 2 Donkey Kong Country toys and 6 Sonic toys. I offered $2 on the box and the lady countered with $3 so I just took Diddy for the IAP, I was going to take Funky Kong also but didn't bother since he had pen scribbled on his face, this was kind of funny since these toys really are worthless and the lady probably should have taken any offer a buck or over just to get rid of them :P

I didn't find much and only actually got any video game stuff at one sale but it wasen't for a lack of effort I went to 40+ yardsales today and was out the door at 7:10 this morning and was out from then til noon with 2 small breaks so I probalby was hitting the pavement for about 4 hours total. A few sales said we sold a PS/GC/Xbox already and the GC stuff that went I was told was kids games nothing special (or almost surely nothing special), I also got 2-3 sales that mentioned still having a NES/SNES that they still use when asking for games. Surprisingly enough I've barely even seen any crap last gen stuff this year, the only last gen game I've seen this year at all at a yardsale was 1 PS2 sports game marked $5.

I only saw one sale today selling video games that could be considered "Retro" (by this I'm thinking older then last gen) This yard sale had a SNES & an N64 both with everything needed 2 controllers and about 9 games with each system. Only decent SNES stuff was SMW x2 and Areo The Acrobat, N64 Mario Tennis, Super Mario Kart 64 & Zelda: OoT. Both systems with games were marked $40. I went up and countered the $80 for both systems with an offer of $20. The lady said that this was her son's stuff and he just left for some reason but offered to call him. I think she though I was offering $20 for one of the systems and was told that the $40 was "firm" when she got off the phone. I asked about him lowing the price if they were sitting on it at the end of the day and she though maybe but judging by the phone call this guy/kid wasen't serious about getting rid of the stuff and would probably reluctantly let it go for $30 at best I was thinking so it didn't seem worth the trouble of driving back a town over later on since the IAP is about what it's worth on eBay and I have all mentioned games in my collection :D

I also saw some Imagine Babyz DS crap at a sale they were only asking $20 and I was thinking it was a great deal, or you could probably get the game cheaper sealed on eBay lol

shit if the games weren't sports and were worthwhile i would have payed 40 for both, some dude at the flea today was trying to dump a super nintendo on me with all hookups and no games for $40. Suprisingly the thing wasn't yellowed at all. It still had its grayish tone. Offered 20 and he wouldn't budge so I passed. Also passed on an NES that the guy wanted 60 for. Said he really wanted to sell them because he needs more room for other things blah blah blah. I told him he should start thinking realistically if he wants to sell it.

Got a type 1 genny with 2 mega fire controllers today though so I'm happy

shit if the games weren't sports and were worthwhile i would have payed 40 for both

The IAP was $40 on each on the system bundles I do recall a wrestling game in the N64 mix and a fishing game in the SNES games. They probably got a lot of lookers though, I did notice a girl looking through the N64 games then walk away :D

This sale reminded me of that one guy asking about what to do when you see video games at a yardsale with a high IAP, I had no problems walking but it was a bummer without more gaming goodness to be seen yardsaling today.

My finds today all come from one sale I found on craigslist.

$21 spent

This sale advertised games from nes to ps2. I picked up stuff that interested me. I was amazed to find so many games with boxes. I passed on a lot of boxed N64 games since I'm not really into collecting for it and I'm getting really short on cash. I am rather happy to have got these since it's so hard to find snes and dreamcast games in my area. The lady had the games priced a $2 each, but gave them to be for $1 each since I got so many.

erehwon, great find!

I hit a city wide on the way to the Free Comic Book Day events. Lots of $5 sports PS1 & 2 games. I did get Dream On Season 1 & 2 for $2 and America the Book for $1. Total of $3 for the Garage sales. I did get about 40 free comics so not a total waste of the day.

Went to about 20 sales today, all I could manage was Dino Crisis (also had a cooler boarders 2 disc in the case for some reason) and Dragon Quest 8 demo disk for $2.25.

Also saw a GC for $10, but it didn't come with any games/controllers so I passed.

Good start to the Wisconsin rummage sale season today….

http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/7276/may09rummage.jpg

Got the top-loader w/dogbone & manual plus the two Zelda games w/hintbook for $15 from multi-vendor school rummage. Playstation games were a buck each at another sale down the street. Got the loose manuals, 4 complete Genesis titles, and 4 loose NES games for only $3 total at a third. And finally pulled 8 2600 games marked 49 cents each from a big pile I spotted at a Goodwill…best in the lot were Frogger II Threedeep, Sorcerer, and Sears picture label Outer Space. Hopefully, this is the shape of things to come for this summer!

I found the xbox live twelve month pack with the headset and messenger thing for five bucks(and surprisingly it all worked including the live card, and the pgr 4 was sealed), gears of war 2 for ten bucks and zoids asault for fifty cents

Hit up my first Flea Market/ yard sales of the year. The Roanoke Civic center was having a "Monster" indoor yard sale so I went there first. Picked up a GBA Sp with Fire Emblem, and a first gen Xbox wireless adapter for 10 bucks. The same lady had 2 wireless 360 controllers and a first gen iPod, but I passed them up. Kind of regret not grabbing the iPod just to have it but the day was early. Then I hit the dirt mall and found a nice older lady selling a ton of game related things and bought a SNES system only no hookups or controllers, and a complete black box Super Mario for a 5 spot. She also had a first gen pink GBA in nice shape that she wanted 15, I offered 5 and got turned down. My buddy bought a Genesis 3, all hookups, and 2 controllers for 10.

I only got to hit a few sales on Friday this weekend. Didn't get much.

Found Click and The Wedding Singer--complete, for $3 total. Was happy about this because I'm trying to build a small DVD collection for when friend's come over.

Then I found some Pac Man's New Adventures or whatever for PC at some other sale that looked interesting. Offered 50 cents, but apparently it was a cancer foundation sale, so I offered a dollar after she attempted to guilt me out. >_>

Thanks, the funny part is she had 10 on the GBA and 1 on the adapter. I tried to get both for 5 and she turned me down, and I started to walk off but I knew the value of the adapter. I gave her 10 for both walking away with the knowledge that the adapter was worth a ton more then the buck she wanted. So I justified a bit and went off my "rules"; however this was one of the I have to grab this because I know it's a deal.

Not sure if I want to keep it or sell yet.

The Xbox Wireless adapters are nice because you can use it for practically anything with an Ethernet port. I hooked it up to my PS2 the other day and it worked flawlessly.

This was found at a store that will remain nameless but since it wasn't a salvation army or a goodwill I thought I would post it here. Has to be my best find of this year so far easily.

Sega Nomad with 2 games and power adapter - $5.98 works perfectly (this is quite a find as I have never seen one in the wild in 10 years of game collecting).

Pinball Plug N Play 3$ - Bought it because its pinball

PS1 multitap - 1.49

Old Tandy Handheld .79

Obviously the nomad was the big find here but I figured I would throw in the other stuff as well.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (Complete) - $10
Platinum WaveBird - $2
Final Fantasy VII Without Manual (GH) $2
Spyro Year of The Dragon (GH) $1
Crash Team Racing Without Manual $1
GameCube 1019 Memory Card $1

Went to the flea market and right by it was a yardsale that I stopped by first. Had a pretty good selection between PS1, PS2 and GameCube games. It was a little kid selling some of the games and the rest belonged to other family members with initials so I didn't even bother haggling since it was still a good deal altogether even though the last gen games were all $10 (with some other good games in the mix) which is too much for last gen games at a yardsale or just about anywhere for many of the last gen games (not so bad obviously for what I picked out). They even had a few other things I was thinking of grabbing that I passed on a wired GameCube Controller that was either .50 or a buck, Excite Truck for the Wii at $10 and a GBA SP that was rather scatched on the case with charger for $15.

Bullshit Not Related To Anything I bought

I actually didn't buy anything at the (1st) flea market today after this sale as I passed on a few things that I had some interest in, PS2 memory card that was in a PS1 had to wipe the dust off of it since it was so dirty wanted $5 for it so I just passed since I was thinking it may not even work. Kingdom Hearts (Non GH) $4, and one table had a bunch of games mostly PS2 with some Xbox & PS1 but wanted way too much $10 for last gen and $5 for PS1. The lady asked if I was interested in anything as I walked away and offered to do $6 & $3 but I didn't see much I was interested in although I should have grabbed Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (PS2) but it was missing the manual and I figured I'd never get around to playing it anyways. They had some PS1 systems and an Xbox and everything was just to rich one of the PS1 systems was marked $40 (!!) I was thinking that they probably won't be back as I sometimes see people selling video games or electronics like this at this flea market that don't really know what they are worth and sell them for too much, especially at (this) flea and it just doesn't work lol They probably just don't get it and figure it's a waste to sell at this flea market not realizing how much ho hum/common games really do depreciate.

http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/2786/5309.th.jpg (http://img124.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5309.jpg)

Bust A Groove With Manual - $5

I found this at the flea market that I only go to a few times a year after not finding anything at the flea I go to regularly and is the only really good deal I've ever gotten at this flea, it was with what was mostly card/sports games all marked $5. I figured I'd spurge (sp?) and grab a few packs of cards from the card guy at this flea on the way out since I had a few good finds this weekend. The Wacky Packages (Series 2 & 3) were a $1 each and Garbage Pail Kids (ANS1) were $2 which I found out were a $1 a pack when they came out, I know the guy likes to charge a premium on older cards like this sometimes and I figured it was probably over what they retailed for but I though they might have retailed for more then a buck since it comes with 4 pieces of gum and a foil card in each pack and is thinker (thanks to the extra gum included).

Ye0ldmario

is the gum hard as a rock? I recall seeing some wax pack baseball cards at an antique store and the gum was so old it felt as hard as steel lol.

Yard sale season is still really slow here. Only 3 sales listed and they were about 10 miles out of town, and the weather was dark and threatening to rain, so I skipped out this week.

LOL, check it.

I prepare in advance like many of the others here - multiple denominations in different pockets, with the bulk of my money in my wallet. Worst case, you have someone with you to hold the stuff you want (or less reliable, give it to the seller to hold for you while you "run to the car to get your wallet"), then go off and prepare the amount you will offer. Find out how much they are targeting for the pile o' loot you have, and plan accordingly - i.e. are they out of their minds, are they resellers that know the value of their crap, what?

Once you have it ready, you go up to the seller, and stick it up in the air , wave it, whatever, just make sure they see the cash. Doesn't have to be up in their face, just make sure you have their attention. Then I say, "how about $X for this stuff" while waving the money sort of like I'm bidding at an auction.

Here are my scores from this weekend. I went down to a neighborhood/community wide yard sale in my bro and sis in law's community in Lake Forest down in the OC.

I got there a bit later than I wanted to in the morning, around 7:30 or so, and holy crap it was a total zoo already. Very little parking and the buyers were already out in force.

I figured anything decent game-wise would already be long gone, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Took my nephew with me around the community and asked for video games new or old, DVDs, old toys and comic books at every house that had a sale going. Not many had anything on my list to sell. Lots of people had overpriced crap, as is quite the norm.

First score was Sim Ant and Sim Earth for PC complete in CD case for $.50 total.

Second score was a tub of old Barbie dolls and clothing/accessories (for my 2 year old daughter if she gets interested in them, or for resale) that I had to practically fight off a fat chola to win. I had the tub in my hand asking about price and she was trying to pull the Barbies out of the tub! I told her to back on up because she could consider these "BOUGHT". The seller wanted $.50 a doll, I figured there were 20+ dolls in there not including the clothes and crap and CiF'ed her 4 singles, she accepted.

Last score was a beauty for me. Came across a house with a bunch of short boxes of comics, with a sign saying "Comics, $1 each". Yeah, right. But figured I'd take a look at what they had for sale.

Woman was selling them on behalf of her husband. He had them all arranged alphabetically, and they were virtually all DC comics. So I started to skim through to see if anything worthwhile was in the boxes (initial box had dimmed my hopes since it was filled with crap) while my nephew stood over and looked through the other boxes. Found some serious winners, so I just started pulling out what I wanted and by the end I had a stack of at least 80 comics. I CiF'ed her a $20 for the pile and she accepted immediately. Boy did I cherry pick some good stuff. Nothing very old (mostly around the mid 80's/Crisis on Infinite Earths), but a lot of noteworthy issues including (all are first print and in near mint/mint condition):

- Watchmen 1-12 (complete set)
- Crisis on Infinite Earths 1-12 (complete set)
- Various Batman issues from the late 300's (including first Jason Todd as Robin - issue 366 or something) and issues 404-407 (Batman Year One). All first print, all in minty condition.
- Green Arrow (Kevin Smith relaunch) issues 1-10...not worth anywhere near what it used to be though, LOL
- Superman Man of Steel #1
- Justice League of America #1 (1980's series)
- Batman a Lonely Place of Dying parts 1-5, gave this to my nephew since I already have plenty of copies of each of these.
- a bunch of various other DC comics, some of which is older- 60's and 70's. I will have to catalog it.

So at roughly a quarter a piece, it's not a bad score at all considering some of those Batman issues are worth upwards of $20 a piece, not to mention the value of the Crisis set and the Watchmen set.

I'm going to resell virtually all of it, since I already have complete minty sets of just about everything. But of course, I will compare each copy to what I have and keep the best one for my personal collection.

why? people wear backpacks/duffel bags/etc. all the time around here. it's generally pretty common at flea markets. i mean, you gotta carry the crap you buy, right?

what you can do to save the bulk and stares, however, is to stuff a clean, intact (ie: check for holes in the bottom first) plastic grocery bag in your back pocket. no fuss, no muss, and you just bring it out when you finally buy something large enough to warrant it.

www.comicpriceguide.com (http://www.comicpriceguide.com) is great for pricing, you have to sign up but it's free.

As far as what's good, it all depends on personal taste. Value wise, it all varies but for the most part as with everything the older it is, the more popular the character/series, and the quality of the condition = the more valuable/rare it is. Stuff from the late 80's on up, aka the "modern age" is generally worthless. But if you find issues for a dime or a quarter a piece, it may be worth it to give it a shot.

Greatest score of my life hands down was when I was about 9 or 10 years old, and this guy a little older than me was selling his personal collection at a flea market/swap meet out here in Los Angeles, his dad had a booth and he gave his son part of the stall to sell his toys, comics, etc. - he was asking A DIME A COMIC. And it wasn't like they were torn trash, they were in great shape and stuff I liked to read. He had all of the Uncanny X-Men from the 80's on up through the 150's or so (including Giant Sized X-Men #1, Uncanny 94-140 missing a few here and there), and a ton of Amazing Spider-mans and Daredevils from the same time period. All were read maybe once or twice and in excellent shape - no worse than VF condition and most solid NM. I ended up giving him like $10 and got all the X-Men, all the Amazing Spider-Man, and some of the Daredevil issues.

Even at the time (this was around 1984 or 1985) some of these were worth some money, and some are still the main copies in my collection. This was my score of my lifetime, although I really didn't realize it back then obviously. I knew I liked those characters, and found that some of those issues were worth some decent money. I kept them in great shape and now many of them are worth hundreds of dollars each, some over a thousand a piece. the highlights were Amazing Spider-Man 121 and 122, 129, some of those early 100's issues, the key Uncanny X-Men issues, and of the Daredevil issues I got a lot of the Frank Miller issues and the first appearance of Elektra (#168).

Looking back I wish I had bought everything he had that day, I'm sure he had some toys that would have been a great deal as well, can't remember what. But I know I left a bunch of comics behind, mostly DC stuff because I grew up a Marvel fan and at that point only liked Marvel stuff.

Whats best to clean the outside of these sega carts without ruining the labels? I don't wanna soak up the labels.

Mr. Clean Erasers are great for general cleaning of the carts, just avoid using them on the labels. Soak the eraser, then wring it thoroughly so it is lightly damp. Also, use Goo Gone on a napkin lightly, then rub it on the cart avoiding the label once again. Or for a good 1 2 punch I put a little GOo Gone on the Mr. Clean eraser directly and that does wonders. I just avoid putting anything at all on the labels if at all possible.

bear in mind though that those magic erasers are mildly abrasive, and will "bald" most plastic cartridges, if used aggressively enough -- using an SNES or Genesis cartridge as an example, notice that the plastic isn't completely smooth, but actually has a fine, matte finish -- this can be worn smooth with the erasers, and can sometimes be quite noticeable in the right light. unfortunately, sometimes it's the only thing that works.

i use the aforementioned erasers, Goo Gone, 409, water, cotton swabs, toothbrushes, and clean, lint-free cloths. paper towels/napkins (and even the cotton swabs) can leave material behind in the things you clean, so exercise caution if you decide to use them. also ensure that any electronics you're cleaning (cartridge contacts, systems, etc.) are completely dry and free of debris before applying power.

The Xmen 2 cart has a piece of scotch tape on it that says $3, i tried peeling it off and the label was ripping so i stopped immediately. Gonna have to pick some of those erasers up at walmart or the hardware store.

Some of my games aren't loading up either, gonna have to q-tip the boards with alcohol.

If they don't load up, you can open them up and clean them with a pencil eraser (sometimes alcohol doesn't work and you have to clean them a little better, this is when you use the eraser). The eraser works particularly well for those NES games that just won't come clean with alcohol. You can buy the tools to open them up at Dealextreme or on ebay and they are very cheap, probably a couple dollars. Some carts can be opened up with just an ordinary screwdriver. I am a girl and I open up games all the time, its really easy and makes them work.

I also got my 1981 Tandy Handheld to work by sanding down the battery contacts with a sanding brick (the kind that are used for painting). They were rusted but didn't have battery acid on them. A sanding brick is another good tool to have (I really don't know what to call them, but they look like sandpaper wrapped around a thick sponge) especially if you are taking in a lot of used stuff, you will no doubt find a use for it and they are only $1-3 each at a hardware store or walmart. I have used mine a lot since I got it.

I buy my cleaning supplies at the dollar store, I can get a gallon of windex or orange clean for one dollar and then I fill up my bottles as I need to with the gallons. I have also found goo gone for 1$ a bottle and stocked up when they had it, this is a good buy as well. Its cheaper to buy in gallons and pour it into your existing spray bottle then to buy the spray bottles every time you need a new one. Yes I am that cheap. This stuff works as good as brand name cleaners and is much, much cheaper.

Once you get the games clean you probably won't have to clean them again for a very long time, unless of course you are playing them a lot.

well, the erasers won't help you remove the tape. in my experience, i've never found anything that can save the dreaded tape over the label, or pen/marker on the label (we're talking paper, unlaminated labels, like on the Genesis). sometimes, a gentle hand can get up the tape by peeling it mind-numbingly slow, but more often than not, it's there to stay. oftentimes the original marker or tape/sticker looks better than the resultant damage from attempting to remove it.

in your particular case, you might just use a magic eraser to buff out the price, leave the scotch tape behind, and wait until you find another, unmolested copy of the game.

I did a little yard saling this past weekend, and was surprised to see everything still out at one sale after it started raining Saturday afternoon. I had passed on their genesis with crappy games for $25, etc, but would have taken it if I could have had it for free, so I sent an email asking why it was all still sitting out. Here's the response that I got:

Well, If it's any of your business. We were packing up yesterday afternoon just when the storm came and it hasn't stopped raining since. I cannot pack things into boxes to take to goodwill in the rain. As soon as it stops I plan on packing it up then. Most everything out there is plastic and is not harmed. I cannot control the weather and am not about to risk my life in a thunderstorm picking up stuff I was just going to give away anyhow. Thanks.

My secret weapon for cleaning dirty contacts without opening the cartridge is ordinary emery boards, like for filing your nails. They have a stiff cardboard base with abrasive on both sides. I stick the end into the cartridge and slide it across the contacts several times - on both sides of the board if it has contacts on both sides. This method is highly abrasive so you may want to reserve it for a last resort, but I have cleaned a LOT of carts this way and 99.9% of the time I can get them to work. I have bought supposedly "broken" carts for a song and got them to work in less than a minute with this method.

After cleaning, be sure to blow the dust out - canned air works well for this. Do NOT put the cart in your game system before you have blown out the dust or all of that abrasive junk will go right into your cartridge slot. If the contacts were highly corroded, you might want to wipe them clean with the corner of a towel moistened with Windex. I find I have to do this when the contacts have that heavy bluish corrosion on them.

After 2-3 uses, the end of the emery board will wear out. Just snap off the used-up part and keep going.

Emery boards are essentially fine grain sandpaper on a board, so yeah that would probably work. I have a bunch of them here but I will reserve this method if a cart absolutely does not work after the eraser method. The eraser method seems to be slightly abrasive too but it gets the black stuff off the contacts when alcohol cannot. I know there are solutions out there that get the black stuff off without alcohol but they are very expensive compared to the cost of conventional cleaning methods and well, most of the games I bring home aren't worth all that much.

is the gum hard as a rock? I recall seeing some wax pack baseball cards at an antique store and the gum was so old it felt as hard as steel lol.

I haven't chewed any of the gum yet but this set came out in 2003 so it's a safe bet I'm sure that the staleness isn't as epic as it would be if you were chewing on gum today from an old pack from any of the series for the original Garbage Pail Kids :D

i tried to chew some 3rd series gum about 5 years ago, and once i got it to break into pieces, it just crumbled into a gritty powder/sand and it took a minute or two of spitting and rinsing to get it all out.

oh, the things we do when we're bored.

I hit up a few yardsales this weekend, all I found were two shirts for .25 each. No signs of anything technological, really, outside of a copy of Frogger for the PSOne that was laying on a wooden table in no case... black side down... for $1.50.

Today, I hit up a Rummage Sale. I passed on Zoo Tycoon 2 (my dad has it and if I wanted it, I could get it from club.live). I then saw the holy grail... the Pac-Man Board Game. Sadly, when I lifted the lid I saw all the pellets were missing, so I set it back down. They looked on the bos like they were just marbles, but eh. I'm still holding out for the Happy Days Board Game. My aunt had a copy and used to baby sit us... best game ever!

As for the gum... I've chewed on gum that was like 7 years old or so from the old baseball cards. It started when my dad bet me a dollar I wouldn't. From there, others would pay me $1 and I would.

I just tested on all the snes games I found on the mint condition snes I found 2 weeks ago. They all worked and without doing any cleaning. The carts were in excellent condition. I was even able to test the snes import game. I need to test the Dreamcast games, but it will be difficult to get to that console.

If I had to clean them, I use DeoxIt contact cleaner or que tips with alcohol. The contact cleaner stuff works pretty well.

DeOxit works great; i'm a big fan. if anyone here is new to it, be sure to apply the product to a cotton swab, cloth, or other applicator, rather than spraying directly into the cartridge. DeOxit can deteriorate internal components over time if it isn't cleaned up completely after use. and, as with any other liquid cleaners, be sure everything is completely clean and dry before powering up.

I'm going back to the flea to see if there's any new people with tables out. I think different people go on sunday so I'm gonna have to try going on a sunday sometime. If no new people are out and only the same then it won't matter as much.

I was talking to a pawn shop guy this morning on the phone and he told me once you find a place with good stuff, keep going, stay connected to the source. Focus on the places that you find stuff, cross the dry places off your list.

So I can devote one day to the flea, and the remaining day to yard/garage sales.

Mario Tennis "3D" puzzle: $0.50

PS2 with Disc Read Error: $2

The first two sales I went to had a bunch of game-related but not game things. I picked up the puzzle at one, then at the other saw Super Mario Bros show DVDs, Sonic comics, Pokemon books, and strategy guides. Got the PS2 in a neighborhood that's having a huge sale tomorrow, but three sales were open today. The sale where I got the PS2 had a $20 Genesis, overpriced computer parts ($20 for 1GB of DDR2? Come on!), and $2 Atari games. I was expecting them to ask $30 for the system, but I was pleasantly surprised with $2. I then headed to the other sales in the neighborhood... Found an overpriced GBA at one, then at the next one found...

The bad news is, all these games are pretty beat up. At first I saw the system, controllers, and the first few kids games up through the Final Fantasies, marked at $20. I think "These are scratched, but maybe if FFVII works, it'd be worth it." The guy and I start talking about games, and he grabs another system from another table and says "This is the same thing, right? I should put it with all these." Then the guy said "I swear we had more of these" and opened the front pocket of the carrying bag. Hmm, Legend of Mana, Digimon World 2, Persona... Yes I think $20 is a fair price for all this. Want to throw in the other system too? Sure! I start carrying the bag off, then notice a small stack of NES games on another table, marked at $1 each, and paid him the $5 for those.

Now, time to see if any of these actually work...

Persona alone made that a score. Personally I got skunked yet again(has no yard sale luck).

My finacee actually called in this mourning saying she had an emergency(we pretended my heart was screwed up and that it was my blood pressure medicine acting up)just so we could go to a huge 48 family sub division sale. Most of the sales wernt up at the advertised time and 95% of the sales were either baby stuff or old people crap(knick nacks, statues etc). The other 5% were still just junk. I only saw video games at 2 sales, one was all football/basketball games and the other junky kid games. I was tempted to offer the lady $1 each for the games just to add to my collection and not leave empty handed but just when I did someone else made her the same offer. Wouldn't you know the lady was "knowledgeable about games" and informed the inquirer that she could get at least her $5 asking price per game at gamestop.

I enjoy watching this topic and it makes me jealous, but seriously unless your very lucky and work really hard I think that yard sales are just dead anymore.

Go back tomorrow around 11 and see if he is still isn't budging on price. The majority of yard salers don't even know what that is, much less paying $35 for it. I'd say you got a better chance when he sees no one is interested at that price.

Rockband PS3 drums - $2
NES with advantage and 6 games - $3.50

I picked up the drums since I thought that was a good deal, even though the pedal was broken. The nes was pretty dirty. I picked it up just to sell. I'll clean it up and put in a new connector. I also passed on a halo xbox for $25. The collector in me wanted it, but I didn't feel like spending that much on something I'm not going to play much.

Holy crap, had an amazing score today. I spent three hours out yard sailing, and really didn't get anything other than this awesome score.

I went to this sale where this dude was selling a bunch of sealed action figures and stuff. We were talking and he mentioned how he was a fanatic about Final Fantasy XI (he had his character tattooed on his chest! HxC), so I told him I had a few sealed FFXI's that I needed to get rid of. I went back home and got one, then brought it to him and traded it for:

Sealed Beast Wars Transmetals Optimus Primal
Sealed Beast Wars Transmetals Megatron
Sealed Beast Wars Transmetals Rattrap (G2 or something, different colors)

But the real score:

Complete, mint copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

OMG.

It was part of the trade. And the best thing was I got that copy of FFXI for like $20. It's not like I ripped the guy off, though. He knew the values of these things and just wanted to get rid of them without putting them on ebay.

And please, let's try to keep the comments like "pics or it didn't happen" off of any sites that aren't gamefaqs.com. If you want pics, no need to be rude! ;) I'm tellin' you, CAG just isn't as friendly or polite as it was a few years back.

Anyway, here are some pics to prove it.

Nice scores guys. Way to go on the Transmetal figures.

I didn't find anything in town this weekend. There were only 3 sales, and they were really far out. Passed one and it looked like crap.

Did go earlier in the week in St. Peters, MO and found a set of book cases (3x2). They aren't anything fancy (probably from WM or Target) and they had $10 each on them. All I had was a $20 so I just payed for them and left.

My wife didn't think I got a good deal, but she quieted down when I told her she could have one.

3 Garbage Pail Kids & 6 Trash Can Trolls - .25

Got these at a sale on Friday, had a ton of non sports cards (a few hundred) guy said he'd sell them all for $5 but I only really was interested in these. Told him I had 9 cards, he said how about .90 which I countered with .25. It's funny that I mentioned GPKs just a few days ago then buy some just afterwards at a yardsale for the first time. Sorry no gum around either :D, I though the asking price was funny as IIRC that would have been 2x per what a card costed in a pack back in the day (.25 for 5 cards).

American McGee's Alice Cased (PC)
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Cased (PC)

American McGee's Alice said $3 so it would have been $4 for both at IAP, offered $2 which was taken.

This stuff was actually from a yardsale downtown that I've been to a few times in the last few years that always advertises "video games" got to the sale kind of late (about 8:10-8:15) but I wasen't too worried as not many people seem to go yardsaling around that area, kind of a run down part of town so I guess most yardsalers want junk from people in nicer areas.

This was at the same house that I got Shadow of The Colossus & Neverwinter Nights at last year and I don't think I mentioned it but I left my number at this house last year as I asked about older games & the girl mentioned her boyfriend who was at work and had a NES, SNES & Dreamcast which he forgot to bring down that he was going to sell. I got her cell phone number and called 2 or 3 times and even left a message with my number the last time and as always never heard back. I'm thinking maybe part of the reason they were lazy about getting back was the missing cords on the NES & no SNES system but who knows lol.

When I noticed what house this was I figured fuck it I'll just pass remembering them not getting in touch with me last year but since the only new sales today (Saturday) around my town were a community sale which I went to last year (and asked about video games at every house!) that is very popular with people crawling all over the place and a few street sales near this community sale that I've been to all of in previous years I figured I'd try my luck at what was out at this sale advertising video games as they always have at least a little something good (Suikoden III a few years back for example) and figured at best they'd have mentioned games from last year for sale and maybe even something RPGish for the SNES judging from some of the other games I've seen for sale before at this house.

I got to the sale to see all three systems out, the Dreamcast was marked $20 and only had about 6 games, Sonic Adventure & Evolution 2 being the only decent ones and IIRC both were missing manuals. The NES stuff was in a box and was marked $30, Resistence was marked $5, Sonic Chaos on the table .50, Genesis & SNES carts in a box marked $1 each. I grabbed what I did and asked about the NES offering $10 for it since it was missing the hookups. The guy was thinking about my offer figuring it out in his head with everything I had (which was close to $45 with all the IAPs). I offered $25 for everything which he countered with $30. I paid $30 instead of trying to be any cheaper and shaving off another buck or two since I was already doing good. I ended up grabbing the Genesis Game Genie as I left out of the $1 box for the hell of it. I passed on an NBA Jam or two which I already owned and a few 16-bit sports games.

I was happy about finding Donkey Kong Jr. as I have been hoping to find that or Donkey Kong for the NES but figured I'd try my luck at finding them in the wild instead of resorting to buying online since I already have Donkey Kong Classics.

After this sale I decided to call it a day instead of running around to a few of the street sales going on nearby since I figured I used up all of my luck at this sale and since the same community sales end up being (mostly) all of the same houses every year around here. I figured that I'd be better off saving the time today to clean the contacts on these games.

wasn't being rude, just hard to believe a story without actual proof when we are talking about something that is as rare as PDZ. I hope you have a Saturn and put that game to good use. Congrats on the find by the way.

I went to about 20+ sales today and didn't find crap for games except an NBA 2k7 for $10 for 360 I passed on and a PS2 controller for 50 cents I didn't really want. I did, however, find some cds cheap. I got all 10 of these for $3.50 total. All look brand new.

That panzer dragoon saga is an awesome find. That is one of things I've most wanted to find at a garage sale.

yea, I'd hook my saturn back up to play that one... I ebayed dragon force and shining force III for like $150-200 each back in college around 2001 or so cause I needed money. I'm surprised they have declined in value so much.
