went to a yard sale this morning. was able to get for a CIF $9:

An Ascii Controller (fairly beat up, will test later today). Here is a picture of what it looks like.
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/surpluscomputers_1946_12169307

Also got a blue Sega Game Gear (which apparently are fairly rare) and 3 games (Aladdin, Sonic 2, Sonic and Chaos).

For $9, and after seeing what that Game Gear is worth, I was happy.

Is that the EA Sports game gear? I think I remember that one. I found my old one when i was at my parents house and digging thru an old closet. I can't believe how crappy the screen is compared to modern systems.

i think so. yeah, the screen is TERRIBLE. i tested this one, and there's a teeny bit of screen interference at the top, almost like burn in, but it doesn't really effect gameplay. i just need to get an ac adapted, because i'm not wasting 6 GD batteries on this thing every 2 hours.

Lol sometimes if you drop a benjamin on someone like that they will give in, I Cif'd a $100 bill to a similar seller last year, he then gave me games that he had priced for a total of $500+, and his were right at market value. I was happy.

P.S. I am starting to dislike unemployed CAG's that get their unemployment check and use it to buy out all the games in town as I am working on Fridays!!

Yea, that made me regret getting a GG instead of a GB, even if it was in color. I eventually got the battery packs but those things were huge to. I'm gonna show it to my kids when they are complaining that they don't have the newest nintendo dsi^2 or whatever in 10 years and tell them what I had to use.

Sadly I have better finds digging in my old closet then I do at garage sales. All I found this weekend was a bunch of $10 gc games like prime and whatnot. After 4 years I still am waiting for the day of a big score, unfortunately I live in a small community that is tech/geek centric and most probably throw it on ebay.

I can understand about not being able to get a big score. I never get the big finds like some of the people in this thread. I just try to be glad that I find anything at all. There is a lot of competition in my area. I usually only get a couple games each week, but every once in a while I find something like my JVC X'Eye, Vectrex, or my Laseractive. It would be nice though, if I could find the games for some of these rare systems I've picked up.

the dealer at the flea i go to wants upwards of $29-$50 for any big name SNES games like mario world, mario kart, etc. Only one that might be worth it is Mario RPG.

All cart-only. SNES systems - $69, NES - $60, sega genesis - $45

I laugh because he doesn't even sell anything. Nobody buys from him because of his prices and all I see is maybe 1 person looking.

This guy's been there for years and i'm pretty sure he still has the same NES he always had when he first started renting the booth.

dude, i'm there with you as well. quite frankly, i just got really lucky today. i've struck out for 5 straight weeks, and i haven't even been able to go out on those. i probably won't hit anything good again for at least 3 weeks or longer.

I picked up an NES+5 games, Super Smash Bros 64, and a Virtual Boy for $20 total.

The NES blinked (working on the connector right now) and the VB only had the visor, no stand or games, but had the controller and AC adapter...how does one test a VB? I ordered a cheap copy of Mario Tennis, but until then...does any startup screen come up when a game isn't inserted?

I also got a NES this weekend. I'm planning on just getting a new connector for the system. Cleaning the games didn't help. One thing I'm wondering if there is any way to fix the connector? I got this one and one I took out of another NES I fixed.

I don't really know anything about the virtual boy. I would say it's been around 10 years since I last saw one.

I just followed a FAQ pdf and the NES works great, two of the games didn't work, but I haven't cleaned them yet, so that's probably it.

There are some rare games in there! That double ender is a good find. Sir Lancelot and Robin Hood is a little tougher combo to find, than most.

Some of the Coleco titles are hard to find. I see Bernstein bears! That is hard to find, I think it is about $100 in the guide. Ebay prices probably differ, but you have some HTF games in there. Great finds!

I know a guy who sells a lot of NESs on ebay . . . he says to take an NES game and soak it in rubbing alcohol and then shove it in and out of the connector many times . . . wipe off the cart, put on more alcohol and do it again and again and eventually it should work.

Worth a try.

einhander in the gex case - nice score. I've been looking for an Einhander forever.
Even though we're on opposite coasts I see your prices paid are comparitive to the deals I find. Is there a lot of stuff you pass on when get these single item purchases?

tons, actually. i find that people who sell multiple gaming items tend to vary wildly in their prices. for example, at the sale where i purchased Einhander, the same guy wanted $12 for a PSP Star Wars something-or-other, with no case. the twenty Genesis games (in the first pic) came from a lady that wanted $5 apiece for SNES games (common titles, at that). the Zelda CE/Bubble Bobble came from a lady that wanted $45 for an NES and a couple games (barf!). and then you get people that are practically giving stuff away (the 4 .hacks), and you just have to scratch your head.

i think to a lot of sellers, i'm buying their "junk" stuff, since it's just odds and ends, at least a lot of the time.

oh, and thanks for the kinds words, gang. i hope these past two weeks are indicative of whats in store for summer! (though life never works out that way.)

I find the same thing here. What I find particularly strange but pleasing though is how many times people will take like a 1/10 of what they are initially asking for something without hesitation, especially when I CIF.

BTW you kind of motivated me to get some pics up of my scores from the last couple of weeks. I'll try and get them up before another weekend passes.

Friday finds!

http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/4084/dsc05088.jpg

NES Console w/ 2 Controllers, AC Adapter
1943
Double Dribble
Excitebike
Ice Hockey
Super Mario Bros. 3
Total: $5

Found en route to the first mapped sale of the day, taken at the price marked.

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7185/dsc05089.jpg

N2O: Nitrous Oxide: $1

Wired Xbox 360 controller: $10

Contra Shattered Soldier
Gradius III and IV
Star Wars Battlefront II
Star Wars Jedi Starfighter
PS2 Memory Card (in Battlefront case)
Total: $10

Assorted finds from a few sales. The 360 pad is probably going to be primarily for my PC, it's great to have for XNA programming. The PS2 games I found after asking at a sale, cherry picked the good ones and offered $10 (he originally asked for $5 each). Found the memory card in the Battlefront case and let the guy know (otherwise I would have felt bad) and he was fine with throwing it in.

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/8310/dsc05090j.jpg

Sony PlayStation w/ Hookups, Dual Shock Controller
Medal of Honor
Total: Free!

Asked for games at a small sale and the guy brought this out for me. I didn't really need another PS1 (see last week's finds), but then he just told me to take it! Can't argue with that.

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6561/dsc05091.jpg

NES Console w/ Controller, Advantage, Zapper, Hookups
Ms. Pac-Man (Unlicensed)
Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Tetris (Unlicensed)
Total: $10

Again, nothing super exciting, didn't have to ask and took at the price marked. Didn't have either of the unlicensed games, so that's fun.

I'm pretty sure that Tengen copy of Tetris is quite rare, I believe it got pulled from the market very quickly as Nintendo acquired the rights.

@allyourblood that's a rather impressive amount of sales you ended up finding something video game related to buy at over the last few weeks ;)

Going out again this weekend, and since I almost never find anything, I figure I'll start asking about games. Anyone have any recent success stories or advice about trying this?

When I ask for video games I ask if they are selling any old Nintendo games or any other kind of video games and I basically do this so that people know what I'm asking about as sometimes I'll get people that will reply back with "video tapes?" if I just ask for video games.

I usually get about 3 good scores a year asking about video games that makes it worth asking for them. Some CAGs seem to do better and some worse largely dependent on location.

@allyourblood that's a rather impressive amount of sales you ended up finding something video game related to buy at over the last few weeks ;)

week before last was a massive (and i mean MASSIVE) city-wide yard sale day (Saturday), and my buddy and i absolutely cleaned up -- we must have hit over 100 sales on that one day alone, not counting Sunday, or this past weekend. luckily for me, he's more interested in movies and toys, and doesn't care much for collecting games much these days. about 7-8 years ago, we were both focusing mostly on video game stuff, and we often had to split what we found, or "take turns" on who got what. nowadays, he'll find games before me, and hold them while i come over and look. the best part about it is that with two pairs of eyes, we'll often find things that the other didn't notice, and would've missed out on.

keep in mind i posted primarily video game and blu-ray finds. i also buy books, toys, odd electronics and music items. if i had added all that, you guys would've mod-alerted my post for excessive bandwidth usage.:lol:

good finds, Grue. here's to the weekend.

Twisted Metal 3 still sealed for $1.
2 plug and play games Namco and Thomas the train .25 each.

I also saw an old friend that was selling a N64 (2 controllers, 2memcards) with Star Wars SotE, Star Wars RS, Starfox64, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong racing, and 2 sports games for $10. CIF $8

Probably my find of the day was a n64 gameshark Pro version 3.3 for 25 cents!

I think it is desireable because it has a 25 pin cable on the back. Or people just want it beacuse it has pretty sparkles. I don't know what the port is used for...Anyone know?

I hate living in North Atlanta. The only games I ran into today were friggin' Xbox Sports titles and Spongebob PS2 games. This was the first video game related stuff I had seen all season.

This is my third week out. I'm about to give up on Garage Sales in this area.

This area is full of families with people who play nothing but Xbox sports titles and if they do have any other games, they throw them on eBay. Can't I catch a friggin' break?!?!?

Ah yes, the Gameshark Pro. The port on the back is to connect to a PC via the parallel (printer) port. While the Gameshark Pro had built in code creation tools, it required an expansion pak to use them, which caused conflicts with games that required it (Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, etc). So rather than using the built-in, expansion pak eating tools, you could dump the game's memory out to your PC instead. Someone wrote a pretty powerful N64 debugger that let you access and modify the raw assembly language near the end of the system's life, it was pretty cool. The only hitch was that dumping 4 or 8MB of memory over the parallel port was slow as hell.

Still no game scores for us however I did find a box of Goosebumps books for $10. Had numbers 1-63 or 64 I believe and almost all of them were in good condition(2 or 3 had small tears but most were just shelf wear). I had a collection that was only missing 3 or 4 books so I figured I could fill out my collection and then sell the rest on ebay to get my $10 or more likely just gift the other 60ish books to my 10 year old brother.

Went out today to a lot of yard sales and didn't hit much luck. Was looking for older systems but didn't find much of anything.

ATV Offroad Fury 2 (Not for resale)- $1
SSX3- $1

Stack of old Nintendo Power magazines- $1
Book about Lemony Snicket- $.25

Old Muppets Fairy Tale VHS- $.50
Book about penguins-$.50

Gamecube system with 2 GC controllers, Animal Crossing (w/ memory card), Mario Kart Double Dash, Simpsons Hit n Run, Looney Tunes: Back in Action- $20

Might keep a gamecube controller and the two PS2 games and get rid of the rest. I might use the Nintendo Powers to make a collage or something. Have plenty of old EGM mags that I want to do the same with.

I just got back from the local community yard sale. It was fairly disappointing, most were the same houses as last year. It was quite a while until I ran across any gaming stuff... and then it was PS2 Poker titles for $5, Battle Arena Toshinden for the PS for $1, and PSP games for $5... so a bunch of systems I don't own.

I finally saw a really awesome Game Gear with a bunch of games... looked like the dude didn't use it much or else took care of it. Sadly, it was marked $50 so no steal.

I was heading home, defeated, when I stopped at two more and at one, I snagged a Gameboy Pocket and a Gameboy Color for $1. Sadly, both were missing the battery covers. Still, the Color is the same teal shade as the one I paid $20 for with games and the screen looks in better shape, so it was well worth it.

The Gameboy Pocket is Red.

I also snagged the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack on cassette for a quarter (for a friend who has an old school car with a tape deck), an unused coffee mug for a quarter featuring the town's Fort, a Rhino Monkees cassette for my sister for $1 (I've found a few of these in the area now, one was still sealed for that price)

and finally... a Stone Cold Steve Austin cookie jar/bust for $1. It was unpriced, and I thought to myself "if it's a buck or less, I'll buy it" as I just started out. It's going to a friend as I never got him anything when he got married two or three years back. He's a big wrestling and Stone Cold fan.

suprising day today. The weather was gray all morning, and it started to lightly sprinkle by 8:30. There were 3 community sales, one of which seemed to have closed down, not a single sale there. I had only had one find today, but it was pretty good one:

http://abharrie.misterdotnet.com/images/w6s1.jpg

Walked in and saw a stack of games sitting in a box. I flipped through them and saw some good stuff, so I grabbed them all. I offered $5 (marked $1 each), she had to go inside to get the owner, who took 5 with no hesitation. I got:

NES Final Fantasy
NES Crystalis
SNES Madden 95
SNES Madden 98
SNES Super Metroid
SNES Killer Instinct
SNES Tecmo Super NBA Basketball
SNES NBA Jam
SNES Breath of Fire
SNES Breath of Fire 2
SNES Star Fox
SNES Secret of Evermore

Today I went out for the first time this year and had no luck until I went to a huge community yard sale.

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/6970/dcfc0636.jpg
14 Intellivision games including a sealed copy of Astrosmash.
$5.00 total

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9458/dcfc0637.jpg
6 Land Before Time movies
$3.00 total

Tried to CIF $2 for the movies but she was polite and said her kids wanted to sell them originally for $2 each. I was happy with $3 total because I always wanted to see The Land Before Time. Also, I don't have an Intellivision but it was nice to finally find some retro stuff at a yard sale.

Today was the defining moment of my yard sale career, admittedly short as it may be. Long-winded post, sorry, I just like talking about this stuff too much.

First stop: Halo 1 (xbox). $5, CIF for $3. Not fantastic but I wanted the game anyway.
Next stop: Bunch of PS1 games, $1 each. I figured I'd never find anything else so I got 'em all, 12 for $10. Lots of sports but what the hey. Resident Evil DX made it worthwhile. Pics:

http://i41.tinypic.com/2bcjzd.jpg
PS1 games: ($1)
007 Tomorrow Never Dies, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Medal of Honor, Nascar Heat, NFL GameDay 99, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf, MLB 99, NHL 99, NHL 2000, EA Knockout Kings

PC: ($1)
Unreal Tournament GOTY

Xbox: Halo ($3)

At this point I was thinking, ok, Resident Evil DX and some sports games. I probably won't find anything better. Could I have been more wrong?

So, we pull up on this middle aged guy's sale. He says to me right away "if you're looking for games, this is all I have left". Confusing, right? How did he know? Well, anyway, I was assuming he had just been cleaned out by some of my competition. But when I look down on the table, this is what I saw:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2llon7r.jpg (http://i42.tinypic.com/2llon7r.jpg)
Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits x2, Final Fantasy Anthology (PSX)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2, House of the Dead 2, Evolution 2
Grandia II (no soundtrack unfortunately), Phantasy Star Online, Dreamcast Web Browser

$5 each. I asked if I could get a price break since I bought them all, but he said $45, firm. Still an awesome deal. I told him I've been looking for something like this for months.

Had someone just before me bought even more valuable games than these? I don't know. And I'd prefer not to think about it.

At this point I was already thrilled. I never thought I'd find a big ol' box of Genesis games at another sale, but it happened anyway.

http://i43.tinypic.com/nq7a4m.jpg
Sega Genesis Model 1 w/all cables and 2 controllers
Complete games: Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Spinball, Jurassic Park, Aladdin, X-men, Batman, NHL 97, Home Alone

Cart & Case (no manual) : Sonic 1 and Sonic & Knuckles

Cart Only: Road Rash, Mortal Kombat II, Start Trek: The Next Generation NBA Jam Tournament Edition, WWF Super Wrestlemania, Sonic 3 (yes, another one)

Sega Genesis Cleaning System, Game Genie & Book

Oddly, Young Indiana Jones, Terminator 2, and F22 have no cartridge. Also, the generic blue N64 case is empty.

$20 for the box. She was firm. I think it was worth it.

All in all, my brother and I spent $78. Way more than some of you cheap-asses would have, I'm sure, but our "shared custody" collection just got a whole lot bigger.

I've never seen so many people out yard saling as I have today. A town about 20 miles west of me was having its annual city wide yard sale. It lies in between several other towns so people from multiple towns all descend upon it. I gave up looking in the subdivision areas because it was almost impossible to park my car and at every sale I stopped at people had already beaten me to games.

After I switched over to the poorer side of town I found some awesome deals. I picked up:

- Approx 175 CD's from multiple sales $65. Sold a bunch on SecondSpin when I got home for $208, and I still have about 80 left.

- Two giant boxes of NES games (approx 90), plus I threw in a handful of PS1 games (FFIX, Mortal Kombat 4 & Trilogy, & RE 2), a Battlestar Galactica Miniseries DVD & a FF Legend III Complete for GB. I CIF"D $20 and the lady responded with $30. I yanked out another $5 and she bit. There were several good games in the NES box like Pirates!, Mega Man, SMB 2&3, Zelda, & Bubble Bobble.

Shadow of The Colossus (Boxed & GH) - $2
Crash Bandicoot (Complete) - $2

Found these at a multi family sale at the social hall in town. Both games had initials and $2 was the IAP on both.

Nintendo 64 With 1st Party Controller, 3rd Party Controller, AC Adaptor & NES/SNES RF Adaptor with piece to connect to N64 systems

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe

$3

Found SMBD in a GBC, asked about games. Broght out the N64 with no games offered $3 for them which was taken after thinking it over for a few seconds. I don't think you can see it too well in the picture but the 3rd party controller (SkarkPad 64) is in bad shape and needs to be put out of it's misery.

Sega Genesis 2 in box with 1 (3 button) 1st party controller, AC Adaptor & RF Adaptor

Eternal Champions (Boxed)
Game Genie
Virtua Fighter 2 manual

$4

Saw this marked $5 offerd $2 for it to which the guy responded was too low, I said how about you meet me in the middle then and he said $4 which I agreed on since it was close enough to the middle (3.50) and I don't have a Genesis 2 box.

Non Find BS

Went to about 60 sales and really didn't find anything better then the few boring parting gifts I'm showing here :D I did see some of the usual dreck at a few sales that people should just throw away instead of selling at a yardsale (GBC carrying case but no system or games, PC kid games, old steering wheel controller) I didn't really see anything else good that I passed on except for a PSP with 2-3 games and a UMD but it was definately priced by a kid and too high for anywhere especially a yardsale ($150)

Friday Morning at about 8:20 I was told that I was the third person to ask about video games at this sale and was told that the other 2 were older ladies looking for games for their grandchildren and it sounded to me like it was the same lady that grabbed a Donkey Kong Country 3 for GBA from across a table that I over looked last year. I did happen to see her out and about this morning, it's too bad my grandmother wasen't so dedicated to finding me old games when I was younger!

I had two sales that mentioned games I missed (one was a PS2 sytem the other some PSX or PS2 games) so I didn't get any hints that I missed anything like old cart games, sales were probably just that dry video game wise.

The one sale I asked about video games at the lady mentioned that she had a Nintendo with a "ton" (I'm guessing about 20-25) games but that she was "most likely" keeping it. Sounded like she found it getting ready for the yardsale but decided to pull it out of the attic and play it instead of selling it. Kind of crappy to mention and after I left I was thinking about if I should have tried to get her to bring out and sell any games that they wouldn't play but I was better off not as there (sp?) really probably isn't any way of doing so that wouldn't be rude or pushy.

Just went to one advertising games. They had a bunch of board games. Also had an original Xbox with 2 controllers and NO power cords for $40. Passed on that. Asked about games and she brought out 2 that I had no interest in. I did get the game Hands Down for a dollar, though, because that game rules. So a pretty big bust, I would say, but Hands Down works for me, so I'm happy enough.

Goldeneye 64

V-Rally 64
NASCAR 99
Monster Truck Madness 64
$2.00

I really don't like picking up systems these days because they're such a hassle to store or sell, but this one said "Make offer." I threw out a lowball offer of $2 and the lady took it without hesitation, because it's missing the AV cord.

Master TV Game Famiclone
2 wireless controllers
1 "Super Fighters TV Game"
$1

I like famiclones. I don't know why. Something about a pirated Nintendo 8-bit appeals to me. I actually passed up a different famiclone later. I figured 1 was enough for one day. Also, the "Super Fighters TV Game" has some SWEET Engrish on it.

1st pic:
Buffalo Router - $5
Pedometer - Free
2nd version NES - $2

2nd pic:
4 playstation games $5

3rd pic:

$5 NES and 1 SNES game

I went out and visited a nicer neighborhood this weekend. I found the router and pedometer at the same sale and the lady threw the pedometer in with the router. I didn't need another router, but this one you can modify with DD-WRT and easily switch it into a access point. The pedometer is nice since it can be connected to a computer.

The NES I found at the same same sale as the games in the games in the third picture. It's nice to have a NES that works without you having to do a lot of cleaning or replacing of connectors. It sucks that it only has RF out, but I have seen mod to give it audio and video out. I'm definitely keeping that.

The games in the second pic I found at a sale with a bunch of games that were over priced. I found these RPGs and was excited, but found their condition wasn't very good. They were marked $5 each, but did CIF for $5 because of the condition. I had to use alcohol and quetips to clean the bottom of the discs. They're working now, but I don't think I would want to sell the extras.

I got these games at the same sale where I found the nes. I asked about more games and he got the nes and these. I could have grabbed more from the box, but I only grabbed what interested me. I'll keep the track one and the simpsons one, but the others are going with SNES and A NES I'm going to sell. I have a new connector on order for the toaster style NES I found last week.

Nice find. I've been looking for contra for a while now. That's one of the few NES games that I haven't been able to buy back. I also need to find Kid Icarus.

One thing I need to start looking at more are the boxes of CDs I see at a lot of sales. I would both look for resale and stuff to go in my collection.

I've been kind of wanting to look into some rock, but I've never been sure what was good. Normally, I just look for movies soundtracks and classical stuff. I don't see a lot of Jazz, so I haven't had much exposure that.

I finally hit a few sales this past weekend during the highway 50 sales. The day was looking bad as I saw a red Game Boy Advance for $10 and the usual overpriced PS2 sports games. At the next stop I found a "dog bone" NES controller for $2.50. Kind of high in my opinion for a yard sale, but I know what these get on Ebay, so I bought it. Next stop had lots of games GTA IV $19 and DOA Extreme 2 $13 (Xbox 360) were the highlights, but I passed as they looked to have been resealed. The day went downhill from there: a PS2 for $75, old Medal of Honor games and sports for PS2 at $15 each. So we headed back home and on the last stop out of town I spied some Xbox games. They were $13 each so I passed. Then I saw an Xbox on another table, but my dad asked me, "What's this?" I turned to look and he was holding a blue Nintendo DS, the original model. The guy running the sale said $10. I tried not to get too excited as I checked it out. I noticed it had Donkey Kong Country for GBA in it. I asked dad to see if the guy would take less, as I usually have no luck in doing this. He said he wouldn't because of the game it came with. I checked it out some more to see if it would power up, but it wouldn't. He said all it needs is a cord. I knew the stylus was also missing and that I have 2 GBA/DS chargers at home, so I decided to take a chance at $10. I got in the car and checked it out some more. In my earlier excitement I hadn't even noticed that it also had New Super Mario Brothers in the DS slot. I got it home and, with little hope, plugged the charger in. A few hours later I was playing. I'm still in shock.
I decided to check back on the sale on Sunday to see about the Xbox I'd forgotten once I noticed the DS. It was gone, but I decided to go through the game pile again. They had added Zelda Twilight Princess for Wii to the stack. They told me the magic price of $10 again. I got them to throw in a Hot Wheels car hauler (the yellow semi) for my nephew.
So for $22.50 I got a DS, Zelda TP, and an NES dog bone controller. Best weekend haul in a long time.

Ya I get that 99% of the time too. Sometimes they will tell you what they have or offer to sell before the sale but its pretty rare. Just as common is asking people after their sale if games are left and getting the response yes let me get you a list and then never hearing back from them.

I'm still praying to find a Nomad and an NES top loader one of these days. :pray:I wrote this in last year's yard sale thread, and I'm happy to report that today, I found my first NES Toploader in a consignment shop for $10. It came with a NES Advantage controller but is missing RF and power cables. Power should be replaceable once I find out what pin polarity it's supposed to be.

Now if I could only find a )(@#$)(* Nomad!

I hit up three yard sales, two advertised and one on the way back.

The first one had a small selection... a PS2 for $75 with a controller, MLB The Show 08 for $20. Then for the 360 they had NCAA and NBA '09 both for $20 and Sega Tennis for $5 which I considered for the arcade games included as it was still sealed (minus celophane). I might pick it up later as my sister wants to stop. Then they had World of Warcraft 2 Battle.net for $5 and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3: Platinum for $15. So I passed on all of that and set out expecting to be disappointed at the next.

When I got there, there wasn't much. When checking around I spotted a handful of Genesis games that the lady said were $1.

So for $4 I grabbed...

Asterix
BOB
Puggsy
Battletoads/Double Dragon

All are in the cases, sadly none have instructions. I have Battletoads by itself, but I definitely couldn't resist for $1 as I assumed the rest were more or less $1-ish games (and I was right).

I left behind... Madden '95 (I already have '96), College Football's National Championship (game only) and Aladdin in the Rocky Knight Adventure case and Vectorman in the Sonic Case (I have Vectorman game only... I considered buying this for the case to Sonic, but passed as cases aren't super important to me). I probably should've CIF $5 for all, but eh. I got what looked good to me.

Thanks. That's what I usually do too, but snotknocker seems to just shove the money in people's faces, and he also seems to get a consistent flow of awesome stuff for extremely cheap, so I might try that.

It's kinda hard to do that in the San Diego area, many tend to overvalue their games.

For CIF do you guys ask for a price first or just shove what you want to pay into their face?
I'm trying to figure out a more effective way of doing this.

IMO it's better to make the first offer on something if it doesn't have a price on it to help you set the starting price low. Rarely do people just take $5 when I do this on a good find (like a system with games) but a few times when I offered $5 and was told that's too low I've turned around with an offer of $10 and had it taken.

found a box full of rrod 360s payed 20 bucks for 7, all cables included no controllers but two battery packs(wtf) the lady sold them to me so she could get some money for some gas, i also gave her 18 litres(in one of those orange containers) for a nikon coolpix camera with all cables and chargers
Whoa, i would love love love to have a rrod 360 to tinker with, would you be willing to part with any at the right price?

Thats the problem in AZ darkslime. People sell baby stuff and womans clothes and call it a yard sale. Most of the electronics/tools/games get bought up and taken down south. Both me and my brother go yard saling, and its been slim pickens in Phoenix lately. (at least for me)

You must have ebay vultures or game gobblers in your area or something. I am 99% sure we have them here as well because SA and GW are always bone dry like the desert. Flea market usually has something but none of the toothless dumbos up there let you haggle and it's so damn hot up here right now to go digging through peoples junk.

If you collect baby toys we have a gold mine open for the taking though! :D

well, tomorrow will mark my first time ever going garage saleing exclusively for video game deals. i'm not getting my hopes up, but it'd be nice to boost my personal collection or find some nice items to flip. i'll be looking for snes, n64 and 360 games, but i wouldnt mind picking up an nes or a dreamcast for the right price.

also hoping to find some nice deals on dvds, but we'll see.

i just hope i've done enough research/made a detailed enough list so i don't miss any possible rarities due to my ignorance ;)

good luck to everyone this weekend! (unless you're in my area ;))

I found the original road rash and battletech 2120(or something) for $1 each, turned down a couple sonic 1's. This is the first find sans sports ps2/cube/360 I've ever had. I did also score a huge bin of lego's with a bunch of star wars sets thrown in for $15.

Thanks. That's what I usually do too, but snotknocker seems to just shove the money in people's faces, and he also seems to get a consistent flow of awesome stuff for extremely cheap, so I might try that.

I tend to gravitate towards just whipping out some cash and making a ridiculously low offer, I've found this to be my most effective technique and consider this to be the TRUE meaning of CIF, however you can ask price and still effectively CIF an offer.

Naturally though there are times when I will ask then haggle. I don't really think it is as cut and dry as ask price or CIF. There are many factors such as if an item is marked with a price, the price of other things at the sale, who the seller is, if the stuff is out when you get there or they go in the house and bring it out after you ask for games, noticeable flaws with the item that you could point out to lower the price, what kind of neghborhood your in, how badly you want the item and honestly I could drag this list out much longer.

A few things though that you really need to do is prepare effectively for your outing, get out early, plot a course, if you drive get a GPS, ALWAYS be prepared to quickly CIF, be friendly and talkative, (buy a cup of lemonade from the kid, pet the dog, compliment the beautiful baby etc.) Shyness, fear of lowball offerings, a lack of preparedness are surely some of the top things that are going to sink your ship. Believe me I've been doing this for a while and there were countless times I learned from my mistakes.

When you go to a sale by whatever means possible try to make yourself likable. You want to kinda not be like "everybody else" with the "how much for this?" or how much for that?" You kinda have to play a rolL sort to speak.

Some people may not agree with how I do things but I know what puts games in my collection cheaply and money in my pocket.

Although they have not been here in a while Evilmax and Moiety I believe had similar technique and philosphies. Those 2 really scored many a jaw dropping deal as well.

I suggest you put your game face on and start CIF'ing some lowball offers.
You got nothing to lose and everything to gain. GO FOR IT!

Today:

The Godfather VHS Collection- $5 (I got it down from $10, I should've gone to $3 but I didn't have enough money that low)
White GBA with a link cable, Super Mario Land (GB game only) and Super Mario World (GBA game only)
Monty Python Life of Brian VHS ($1, I should've went to 25 cents)
Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun PC- $1
The Simpsons Season 1 DVD set- $2
The Great Mouse Detective, Spider-Man, Rescuers Down Under VHS- 25 cents each

Stuff I didn't get:
Someone said they'd just sold their games, and I saw someone driving away.
Sega Pico with 4 or 5 games- $25 (I should've got it to $5-10)

I went back out today and picked up the Sega Superstars Tennis/XBL Arcade (console included disc) for $5 that I looked at yesterday. I mainly got it for the Pac-Man and UNO games, but I might play the Tennis a little to try for some easy acchievement points.

I also snagged a sweet replica metal sign for Old Judge Tobacco with a dog smoking a pipe for $7, three Pee-Wee Playhouse VHS tapes for my nephews for $3 (I try to school them on the classics when I get the chance). I also got some stuff thrown in from that lady, including some magnets, and a bumper sticker for a radio station.

I stopped at a few others that were mostly bust. One had Ready 2 Rumble Round 2 and Jet Set Radio for the DC for $1 each. I probably should've grabbed them, but the only person I know with a DC has both those titles.

The PS2 I saw before was marked down to $50, so I'll see if my dad's interested when he wakes up.

I also saw three Gameboy Color games that had me going from heart pumping to flatlined in record time. NSync Get To The Show, Powerpuff Girls and Camelot... all for $5 each. Oh... and they were a little wet as it rained for a short bit.

Yeah, I always keep a look out for shelving like that. I got two nice # shaped shelves that looked to be designed to hang on walls and probably hold small knickknacks, but are just awesome for games. SNES games fit like perfect on the sides and Sega games go great on the on the top part.

Beautiful weather, terrible sales this week. Old lady shot down my generous $5 CIF for a last-gen racing wheel controller. At the last sale I just bought Sonic 2 and Ecco for Gamegear and uh....Chase HQ: Secret Police (Game Boy). $3, meh. At both of these sales I was told someone came earlier and bought the other game stuff they had, but damn is it hard to get out before 10-11 AM.

Nothing game related today. Saw a ton of $5 PS2 nonsense and the like, but nothing decent. I did score 5 boxed + one loose Super Go-Bots for $2. Also found a Mego Spock for $8. Not a crazy good deal like the Go-Bots, but was the first toy I ever bought with my own money as a child and first time seeing one at a yardsale. Guy was a collector and wasn't crazy with his prices. His initial asking was $10, which was still a good deal for a figure that old.

Wow!!! I now see why the market has dried up on my "Old School Nintendo" business!!! I went to Vegas' only outdoor swap meet this morning. Remember how every other business was either t-shirts or every type of fruit and bean ever known to man?? No longer. There were about 10-15 tents that were nothing but games and gaming... and I mean hi-tech, hi-end commercial game sales. These people even had Nintendo 64 console packages in plastic. If anyone dreams of flipping or adding to their collection.. stay away from Broad Acres Swap Meet in Vegas. Even the Mom and Pop tents were ever bit as savvy as I was. I seen a young woman with a baby in her hand at a tent and thought I had a chance.... "How much for that.... Kobe Bryant Nintendo 64 game" .. "Oh, you can have it for $1.00" ... "Well, how much for that Conker's Bad Fur Day..?" "Oh, that's $45." #-oMind you, these games were just haphazardly put out with no rhyme or reason and she was dead on with the prices. The "commercial" places were crazy... they wanted $80 for Conker's with a bad logo and writing and $60 for N64 consoles. //

Animal Farm DVD new $1
Pandemonium PS1 mint $1
Nascar Racing 2003 Season $1

I found the second PS2 at a church sale fairly late in the day (by yard sale standards), around 11:15. It was tagged at $40. I would have totally passed over it if it weren't for the network adapter. I CIF'ed $20 and the lady asked me for $25, which I agreed to.

If you don't know why I picked up the Nascar game, you need to look at the Amazon prices (http://www.amazon.com/NASCAR-Racing-2003-Season-Pc/dp/B000077WA5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1243119418&sr=8-1). It was Sierra's last Nascar game and there is a huge modding community for it.

That is awful. Whats worse is Conkurs bad fur day is only worth about $35 tops loose. It's alright though, that person will learn a lesson sooner or later. After a while when they see the games still sitting there and the reality sets in they'll lower the prices. Hopefully.

Theres a guy up here in the bingo flea i go to, he still has the same NES he had when he opened his booth back about 6 years ago. And crazy prices, $30-$60 for any game with mario on it.

Ugh, alot of online price match people in swap meet. Oh why oh why, do they have to be there? Rain down or sun burn (in other words fade) artwork case and putting in same price like amazon or ebay....It just out RAGE.

Anyways, just pick up Fallout 3 (PC) for $3 but i already have it for 360.
I have question
Are the codes could be use again or just once?
Is the game only have one disk or more?
Should i keep it or sell it?

ugh, today was pretty crappy. The forecast said cloudy with a 15% chance of rain for the city I was going to about 20 miles away, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Of course as soon as I get there, it starts raining.

I stopped at my first sale, asked about games, and they brought out an NES that looked like it had been sitting in the basement for several years with 2 games, Cobra Command and Wrath of the Black Manta. They asked $5, I shot back with $3 which they accepted, and that was it for the entire day. Almost every other sale closed down. About 25 minutes after we leave the city, the rain stops and the sun comes out.

In a probably-not-too-interesting turn of events, I started taking apart the NES to clean it, and found another game inside. RBI Baseball, on one of those weird black Tengen carts. I went to add it into my collection, and it turns out I already have the game, but on a regular gray cart. I just thought that was kinda odd.

Been a bit since I posed anything on here but I'll post my past couple weekends:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2431/3559673906_ac24b2e5b8.jpg

This was a nice haul. I was told to come back the next day originally when the husband would be available to dig out some video games that they had. I arrived and he and I looked through what he had and I got the following games:

The total price? $5.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3008/3558868051_abe2ed51b2.jpg

The was a sale that I was asked to come back to as they would have the games out then. I came back and got a chance to look through what they had. I got the following:

Dragon Warrior 2 (NES)
Pokemon Red (GB)
Pokemon Blue (GB)
Pokemon Yellow (GB)
Pokemon Crystal (GBC)
Pokemon Silver (GBC)
Pokemon LeafGreen (GBA)
Pokemon Emerald (GBA)
Pokemon Ruby (GBA)
Pokemon Sapphire (GBA)

I ended up giving $14 for all of them together. I felt it was worth it.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3333/3558872081_73b3e45613.jpg

This has probably been the best score so far this year for me. I went to this sale as it advertised some Nintendo Power Magazines for sale. I arrived and there were 2 large boxes of them for $7. I took them all and as he wouldn't haggle at all and then sorted them at home. Here is what there is:

Nintendo Power Mag Issues:

70-90
92-149
151-185
188-189

extra copies of 173, 174, 176, 177, and 178

also included were:

Nintendo Power Advance 1 and 2
Megatokyo Vol 1 with art print
multiple subscriber satalogs
Killer Instinct EYEDOL card
NES Link Animal Crossing e-Reader card
Ho-oh and Rapidash e-Reader cards
misc Batman comic

I feel that this will be a hard one to top for myself.

I had a couple more sales but nothing game related. Check my Flickr Page if your interested though.

Not much for me this weekend.

Gen 2 Genesis with Wheel Of Fortune 5.00
10" Mega Man 15th Anniversary 3.00
Baseball Glove 3.00

First one I went too this lady had a nice little GBA collection, but it was all overpriced. 5.00 a game and 30 for a gen 1 purple GBA. She had a list with all the games she had, but all the good ones were gone before the sale even started. I asked how much for all of the GBA stuff and she gave me prices listed above and said " I can get more on eBay, and later today when the kids start showing up" I said thanks and moved on.

What Nintendo power issues are KEY issues? (ie: collectible, have cards or inserts that people want?

On a related note...I bought 4 Nintendo powers for $1
issues: 211,215,216,235. 211 has a Pokemon ashcan comic vol. 5 in it. The issue also has wii stickers.

I left the damaged ones (torn up, subscription area cut off, etc). I did page through them to make sure there were no inserts or anything.

CIB Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana With Manual
Ogre Battle with manual

plus tons of less pricey games with manuals!!

I went over to look at his haul later...everything was in mint condition, the Chrono Trigger even had all maps, and the box was pristine!!

and DO have exact change.....if you haggle and pay with a higher bill such as 20 they'll get angry

I have never had a problem haggling to get an item for $5 then using a $10. now if you're like my lieing competition and say I only have $5 then pay with a $10 you'll get people pissed. I have seen people do that before.

If you say something like "I shouldnt pay more than $5 for that" and pay with a $10 they usualy wont get mad at you. I do it almost every saturday. I think most people around here bump prices up just because they know people like to haggle. the only people that get mad around here are the people that are selling sega genesis systems with 1 game for $75 and get mad when I tell them that the game store sells them for $20 with several free games.

a yard sale is being advertised about 45 minutes away from me and they are saying they have 75+ NES games for sale. i'm wondering if it's worth it to wake up early tomorrow to head up there and check it out...

You could always try calling / emailing and asking if you can come check them out today.
Do they call the games old nintendo or something like that, or NES? If they call them NES it probably means they will be higher priced.

yeah, the title is "HUGE yard sale nintendo nes games" and in the text it says "nintendo nes games." i'll shoot them an email

My city had their annual city-wide garage sale a little while back, and I've made it a tradition to scour the sales for games. Unfortunately, it seems this year dealers are getting to the games earlier than I am, and people are wising up about ebay pricing. I can't tell you how many sales I've got to and either people have already sold their stuff, or want outrageous prices for them. Reading through this thread, it seems several of you are running into the same problems.

Anyway, onto the haul so far this year.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/soulxforxhire/DSCI0017Medium.jpg
I picked up this NES Advantage for $1 CIF. I've wanted one since I was a kid, but never had one. The lady originally wanted $10 for it, but it was pretty late in the day when I got there, and when I pulled out the dollar, she took it with little hesitation.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/soulxforxhire/DSCI0016Medium.jpg
Dragon Ball - The Saga of Goku
Vectorman CIB
$5

This was a pretty sweet deal. If you know me, you know I love Dragon Ball, and I've been looking for a copy of the first 13 episodes for a while. They're so heavily edited and poorly dubbed that I didn't want to spend too much money on them. When I rolled up at this sale, I found the DVD set right off the bat. I snatched this up right away, and when up to the guy running the sale to ask about games. He brought out a box full of loose sports games, a boxed Sonic 2 and boxed Vectorman. I pulled out Vectorman and asked how much he wanted. He said he didn't know, so I gave him five, which he happily took. Hindsight says I should have given him more, or at least taken the Sonic 2, but I'm pretty happy with what I got.

Populous
Super R-Type
ActRaiser 2
$9

Milon's Secret Castle
$5

These were actually from a flea market that I went to after I got done Garage Sailing. Populous and Super R-Type were marked at $3 each, and ActRaiser 2 was $5. I CIF'd $9 for all of them, and to my suprise, the guy actually bit.

Milon's Secret Castle was from another dealer. She had a stack of NES games marked $5 each, all common games, most of which I already had. Oddly, she had Mario/Duck Hunt behind glass marked as "RARE GAME! $25" Anyway, I only wanted Milon, so I tried to get her to come down a little by offering $3, but she held firm. I paid the asking price, which I didn't mind because it had the plastic sleeve and manual.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/soulxforxhire/DSCI0013Medium.jpg
Street Fighter 2 CIB
$5

NBA Jam CIB
T2 The Arcade Game
$.50

Jurassic Park
$1

Street Fighter 2 was a fleamarket find. It was from a dealer I'm very fond of. They always have great prices, are very friendly, and are genuinely nerds about gaming, which is hard to find with dealers. I always pay asking prices with them, beacuse it's usually fair. SF2 has a pretty beat up box, but I don't really care because I'm not looking to sell it.

NBA Jam and T2 were both games I wanted as a kid. I found them in a box in a lady's driveway. NBA Jam is totally complete, it even has the plastic covering them game inside the package. They weren't marked, so I had to ask. She said 25 cents each. I paid right away. Of course I'll take two games for 50 cents!

Nothing special about Jurassic Park. Found it marked a dollar and just paid for it. I was getting late in the day and I didn't feel like haggling.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/soulxforxhire/DSCI0012Medium.jpg

Bust-a-Move 3
$8

Galactic Attack
Robotica
Virtua Fighter 2
$10

NiGHTS
Free

Bust-a-move was found in the dirt mall from a shady dealer. It's marked $12.99 (on a sticker that I can't f%*#king get off!), but I asked how much anyway. He looked at it, and said ten. I noted the case had broken hinges and it's hard to get replacements. He said he couldn't go lower than ten, and I stared walking away. He called after me that he'd take eight, so I went back and bought it. I didn't really want to spend more than five, but he kind of guilted me into buying it. I won't go back to that dealer again.

Galactic Attack, Robotica, Virtua Fighter and NiGHTS were all bought at the same sale. They belonged to a lady's son who had moved out a couple years ago. The lady said she was glad someone else would get enjoyment of of them. Only Galactic Attack, Robotica, and Virtua Fighter were on the table, marked $5 each. I CIF'd $10 for all of them, and she gladly acceped. Later, as I was getting into my car, she ran out with a copy of NiGHTS and handed it to me, saying thanks for stopping at her sale. She was really nice!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/soulxforxhire/DSCI0018Medium.jpg

Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner
$1

Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Final Fantasy III
$9

This is pure bragging, since I got these deals at least two years ago. I was a big fan of Zone of the Enders, and I had both games until tough times made me sell them. I easily re-aquired the first ZOE, but The Second Runner was much more difficult to find. Two years ago I was at a garage sale picking through sports games when this gem popped out at me. I quickly paid the dollar and smiled all the way home.

The three RPGs I got five years ago. I was still in high school, and I was in the marching band. we had a saturday practice before a competition, and we had a lunch break. A few friends and I were walking to the store when we passed by this garage sale. We decided to go in, and I saw these games right away, marked $3 each. I knew what gold they were even then. I bought them without hesitation. I went without lunch, but it was soooo worth it.

So thats all for now. Sorry it was so long, it'll be shorter next time, I swear.

I just got back from three yard sales that were going on today. It was pretty much a bust, as all I saw gaming wise were kid's PC games that were scratched up for a quarter. I did pick up one of those metal folding guitar standswith foam support bars for $1, just for my Rock Band guitar. I looked over a Mac video card the guy had for $2, but it didn't look all that new, so I passed.

Visited a sale today after work about 9 a.m. (sale started pre 8) ad stated video game systems...well, someone beat me to most but the home owner pointed out a 3DO console still there. I've never seen one and it upon glance looks like a old VHS player to me...
It is console only but we plugged it in...wallah the disc tray opens with the game D inside...! $4 (down from $5 due to lack of controller)
Ebay has some controllers listed (even new ones)...should I go this route or do members here have any other advice/source to buy a controller?
Thanks in advance... doin the happy dance on this one...:bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bou ncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

oh and I passed on a $1 Madcatz PS1 dance pad (mint) ... should I go back for this? no PS1 dance games yet...
duh, it works on PS2..going back right now...whew still there and picked up DDR Xbox mint/complete $.50

Nice steal on the 3DO donut. I got one in the box last year with a few games. Controllers shouldn't be that hard to get. Games are cheap enough too.

Went out today to a sale that advertised games. Same sale as last year, but they had more PS2 then. No good titles. Just missed some Star Wars titles for original Xbox. They were all marked $5 each.

Won't have an opportunity to make it to any of the other sales this weekend. Dang.

I recently volunteered for our local SPCA garage sale. Mostly helping set up sort things ect. Anyhow while i was there I came across a Snes with a bunch of games and being it was by donation I offered $20.oo The lady in charge said i was doing so much work i could have it for $10.oo. NO argument there.

Well since then i sort of went a little crazy looking for snes stuff online and in classified and stuff. Thats when i found this nice little thread. Now i had been to the site before but always as a lurker after reading through this thread i felt i would share my finds (as other around me seem less than impressed about it).

Anyhow this is my finds so far this year.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=5369&pictureid=7300

The Snes came with 21 games two working controlers a super game boy and Poke Blue cart.

Beauty and the Beast
Brain Lord
Donkey Kong Country
Flinstones
Home Alone 2
Legend of Zelda
Lufia 1
Maden 94 (cib)
Mario Paint (no mouse/pad)
Motral Kombat 2 (box no inst)
NCAA basketball (CIB)
NCAA Football
NHL 96
Romance of the three Kingdoms 3
Shadowrun
Streetfighter alpha 2
Super All Stars with mario world
Super Pinball
Super Tennis
Utopia
Vortex

Went to about 25 sales but picking were slim.

DK bongos unopened -$5 no game version
Philips 14' LCD - $4
Yellow GBC with Zelda Ages $4

One Sale had a N64 with about 30 games but it was all packaged weird. Bags with 5-6 games marked $25-40. No mix and matching no single sales. Controlers sold seperate from the system. The weirdest thing was about 5 pokemon games seperate from the N64 Transfer pak Seperate from the pokemon stadium game with no gameboy in sight?!? The only person at the sale was an old lady and she said she could not discount it cause it was not hers. Total for all the gear was $150-200= pass by me.

Also at a thift shop i was looking for anything game related, i almost left when i saw the Aura Interactor. It was $10 with no returns if it did not work, i took the chance. I had to go to work so i could not test it all day.
When i did get home to try it i seen from the manual it was CIB! I hooked it up the SNES and slammed in Street Fighter II. Well it appears to be working fine but dam if that is not one of the worst noises i have ever heard coming out the back of this thing. It seems this is normal with these though.

aura interactor commercial (http://www.gametrailers.com/user-movie/aura-interactor-vest-commercial/314340) If anyone care to see it in action,as it were.

Not picured here is my Watchmen Graphic novel. It was a buck.
a Spare set of gamecube cables for a buck...the a/v cable fits the snes too.

All told not bad for $35.00

I also have a rather minty Superscope coming in the mail with a Japanese copy of Darius Twin both CIB for $45 total + shipping.

I got about 70 games for $60 today mostly NES stuff. There were about 10 CIB games and the rest had something missing whether it was the box, manual, or slip case. Nothing too terribly great but I do love me some complete NES games; they are so nice to look at. They had some other stuff too (genesis, playstation, etc) but nothing of interest. I think I saw a disc only copy of Dino Crisis and Rebel Assualt II. I offered sixty for everything (100 games) the said no, then I tried offering sixty for just the NES stuff. They countered with $70 and I told them all I had was sixty and they took it. Here is some of the games I got in box

Bionic Commando
To the Earth
Mission Impossible
Knight Rider
Zoda's Revenge
Sesame Street ABC
Nascar Challange
Solstive
Play Action Football
Tetris 2
Mach Rider
Rad Racer

Then about another 50 incomplete games. I was having a little bit of buyers remorse at first but after doing some math I think I'll be okay.

Friday's Finds:

Game Boy Advance SP w/ Charger, Headphones, Link Cable
Shark Tale
SpongeBob SquarePants Double Pack
Total: $8

Sony PlayStation: $1

Cloudy day, not rainy, but bad enough to scare people off from sales. Found these at the same neighborhood sale. I was pretty happy with the price on the GBA SP, I didn't have one of them yet. I just have to get the heart painted on it off somehow. Haven't had a chance to test the PS1 yet, but I have plenty of accessories for it from a couple weeks ago.

Disney's Aladdin

Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure

Super Mario Bros. 3

Army Men: World War - Land, Sea, Air
NCAA Gamebreaker 2000

Cheap SNES games are always nice to add to my collection, and the PS1 games will all be good to include when I sell the system that I found on Friday. Just like Friday, these were found at houses right next to each other, which is always nice.

just a tip, instead of saying that you will pay .50 per game find 8 games you want and offer $4, 4 seems like a lot more than $.50 even though he is getting the same amount of money per game.

I went to some sales today, ended up spending too much but got some decent stuff.

First sale:

PS1 system with controller, hookups, 2 mem cards, and about 8 common games - $5
Silver GBA SP - $5
GB Games: Mega Man III, Mario Tennis, Wario Land 3, Tetris - $1 each
GBA: Golden Sun - $1

The PS1 is actually the semi-rare SCHP 1001 model, which supposedly has superior audio output or somesuch. Kinda neat. The GBA SP had no charger, but I can use my DS charger so it's coo'.

Next sale:
Saw a big ol' pile of games, nothing great but some decent. I said how much for all this, he goes "uhhhh..." and I whip out a fiver. Works like a charm.

GBA: Zelda 4 Swords/LTTP, Rocket Power, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
GB: Men In Black, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Gold, Terminator 2
Xbox: Unreal II: The Awakening, Mortal Kombat Deception
PS2: Music Maker, Mojo (both sealed)

Long story short, this last guy had a ton of NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis games but wouldn't budge from $5 apiece. I just picked two, and for some reason decided to give him $20 for a SNES.

Genesis: Contra Hard Corps (complete) - $5
NES: TMNT: The Arcade Game - $5
Complete SNES System w/ 2 controllers & hookups - $20

I had a "what was I thinking" moment about 2 minutes later but oh well, now I have a SNES. It works fine so it's alright.

Gotta sell the PS1 and maybe the Pokemon games and get most of my money back.

Got some great deals this week.

Pulled this out of a $45 N64 lot. I offered $3 just for Mario Kart 64 w/ manual. She took it.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j234/Nintendofankid/mariokart.jpg

Next sale I saw these for 50 cents each. I figured the Game & Watch/Sonic might be worth something. The Sonic is worthless, but it turns out the Game & Watch is worth like $40. Score.

Snagged this like new Transformers DVD for $2.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j234/Nintendofankid/TRANSFORMERS.jpg

The next sale I went to, I asked for games and a kid came out with some N64 games. He didn't want to sell a lot of them, but he had some valuable games (very excellent taste). I offered $10 for what he had, which was like 13ish carts. His dad was like "That is worth $80 on the Wii!!11". Bought Glover for $2 because I'm nostalgic for it. Asked him if he had anything else. He went in and pulled out some Wii/GameCube games, all complete and in fantastic condition.

(Dance Mat not pictured) Snagged all this for $30:

I bought a bunch of stuff today, nothing particularly exciting.

D-link wireless router - 2$, plugged it in and it lights up, no idea how it works with the internet, not attempting to hook it up unless I really need to (my router is 4 years old and will probably die soon so now I have another). Came with ethernet cord. Hilarious that I found a router for 2$, usually wireless routers around here come with a 40$ or more price tag at a yard sale.

Last week I saw a kirby vacuum, 15$, no idea how I would flip a vacuum that heavy for money and no idea if it worked. No one on craigslist would pay much for a vacuum around my area. Only mentioning it because there is so much vacuum talk on these forums, lol.

Other finds.

Video Now XP player 1$ - works fine with one disc inside
Littlest pet shop plug n play - 1.25
Crayola plug n play - 1$
Dora plug n play - 1$
Bratz Diary - 50 cents

I see these plug n play games for $3-5 everywhere and I can get more on ebay around xmas time so I buy them whenever I can for 1$ each.

Ya, people around here think that routers are Gold, If I see them they are usually priced as higher than most PC sites sell new ones for. I did manage to get a wireless N NIB for $4 last year the lady had no idea how to hook it up. I was stoked, I had just priced that exact router the week before...$130!!! To bad I had purchased a $40 the day before :(

I always see routers in piles of junk, probably cheap. Are any router worth picking up? I don't really know much about it.
Some routers are worth picking up. Linksys is a good type to look for. Certain models of linksys routers can be modified with custom firmware such as DD-WRT or tomato. These open up a lot of options that you won't find in the official firmware. I would check the sites of the of the custom firmware to see what is compatible. Most of those are probably good ones.

What I am seeing here is horribly overpriced clothes, VHS are 1$ at every sale, and no one is buying anything. I couldn't get rid of my VHS tapes for 25 cents each in this area. I refuse to pay more than 25 cents per VHS tape, if I even want them. People want 50$ or more for color TV's from the 80s, obviously they are sitting there unsold. People no one is going to buy your used toddler and baby toys for 5$ each or more.

I was really lucky to get what I got this weekend.

I have an idea why this is though, because to put an ad in the paper for a yard sale it is EXPENSIVE, like more than 50$ for a weekend ad. People have to recoup what they spent for the ad, but the higher you price your stuff the less people buy. 99% of people end up donating the items at their yard sale at the end of the sale, as NO ONE, and I mean no one wants to pack it up and bring it back in the house (if you have ever put on a yard sale you know this). So I don't understand the overpriced mentality, since you are just going to be donating stuff anyways if you don't sell it, your better off selling things for 25 cents and taking the quarter rather than donating everything. If I walk into a sale and see it is extremely overpriced then I just walk away quickly without buying anything, I suspect many others do the same.

Yard sale shoppers in this area want 25 and 50 cent items, rarely are people going to spend more than a couple bucks at a sale, no one goes out of their house with more than 20$ in their pocket, if they did this would be extremely rare. I mean we are talking yard sale shoppers here, we want extreme bargains and we want cheap!

I don't know who is going to buy used toddler pants for 3$ though, because that is how they are priced here. I saw several lawns completely full of clothing, that were $3-5 per item and no budging on the price. I don't know what these people think they are going to do with all those used clothes. I have a thrift near me that charges 3$ a bag for clothing and I can pull some awesome stuff from there. I can get 12-13 items into a bag and get the whole thing for 3$.

Last week I saw a kirby vacuum, 15$, no idea how I would flip a vacuum that heavy for money and no idea if it worked. No one on craigslist would pay much for a vacuum around my area. Only mentioning it because there is so much vacuum talk on these forums, lol.

If you have a vacuum repair guy around where you live, check them out. They know their models and how to get them running good as new. Only problem is if they try to lowball you. Most around here are good. In fact, the one guy traded my great grandmother her old 50's vaccuum for two new namebrand new ones he serviced.

Oh, and nice find on the plug 'n plays. I was walking back from the video store a few months ago and passed a house with a few "FREE" boxes out front. I dug through the crap and found a Spongebob one for my nephews.

I was out today to two, with no luck in gaming stuff. I sort of figured as one was all the way across town and I didn't get out until like 11. I ended up picking up two toy cell phones for my nephews for $1, and told my dad the one house is for sale as we're moving soon. 6 bedrooms and 2 two car garages for whatever the bank wants to cover the loans. I'll have to laugh if we end up buying a house thanks a yard sale.

Flash forward to now, pregnant with our daughter, and we've spent more at one sale than we did at multiple sales that year. It's just crazy. Hopefullynext weekend is better,an entire subsdivision is having a sale.

Hit about 25 sales, mostly bust, but I picked up a few things..

Gameboy Color Lime w/ Donkey Kong Country - $2
Box of misc Texas Instruments cables/controllers/Parsec game and an old EGM (#112) - $1
Ti-83+ graphing calculator w/ instruction book - $4 (should be a nice flip come August/Sept)
My brother picked up a Canucks jersey for $1.

The only things I saw that I wanted but passed on was a SNES w/6 games for $35 (all common), and a Genesis M2 w/no games for $15 (only reason I wanted was for the box since I don't have one), but they were firm on the prices.

I'll post what I got a little later on, but today I ran into a doozy. $200 for an NES with Mario/Duck Hunt, Ghostbusters, and TMNT. Seller was a walking stereotype, beer gut, mustard stained wifebeater, on his fifth can of Coors at 9 a.m. He claimed he paid alot for "those tapes and that player", and figures this is a fair price. I asked if he'd go a dollar on Ghostbusters and got kicked out of his sale. Some people.

Hit about 25 sales, total bust. Only vaguely video-game related item was some weird VR headset thing for the PC. I also noticed a lot of stuff seemed high compared to years past, with people asking $3-4 for books (good luck) and crap that probably would have been a quarter previously. Hopefully things will pick up a bit when it gets warmer.

Very Nice!!! One thing I dont find around here are DS games. I'm not sure why, the game stores can't keep them in stock so people must have tons at home. Plus that is a nice lot of them, seems like when I do find them they are mostly girl games.

All of this craziness in a small Indiana town. Would hate to see metroplises, can only imagine.

There is so much baby stuff here it is not even funny, almost EVERY single sale I go to is children under 6 and parents selling off all of their kids stuff. People really do want their stuff to come out of a box or bag and are afraid of used stuff, yet my area is 70% welfare people or more so you would think that yard sale items are in high demand but they are not. People have 4 or more kids here, I know 3 families on my block alone that have 4 kids each so you would also think kids stuff would be in high demand. Baby stuff does not sell at all here, kids clothes even at 25 cents a piece sometimes do not sell. You never see the parents of older children having a yard sale, why I do not know. Prices vary here by house though, so you will run into tables of clothing for 25 cents a piece as well as those charging 5$ for one kids outfit.

For my area this was really the first weekend of full fledged yard sale season, memorial day doesn't net much as everyone is partying. Its too cold before then to do yard sales. Perhaps later in the season prices will get lower.

People ask 3-4 for books here, 5$ for plug n play games, I am NOT paying 5$ for a plug n play game. Some people ask $3-4 per VHS but today I found a house asking 10 cents for VHS, but the $3-4 houses are more common. I don't care how much you paid for that plug n play game, used stuff is used stuff. These things really should be selling for less than a dollar each but I can barely get them down to a dollar most of the time. I want to assemble a mass collection of plug n play games (I am doing pretty good so far!). But I have had to pass up many because the price is too high then they say they can't go any lower on the item. I have used CIF but I just can't get the prices down on the plug n play games.

I see the same thing with prices going up at yardsales, I actually saw a VCR the other week marked $20 and it's not uncommon to see them marked at $10 around me even though (sp?) I'll see them not going anywhere fast if they are marked say $1-3 and I'm sure if I looked close enough just about everything is priced higher at many yardsales. I've seen a few TVs from the early mid 90s over the last month/year marked around $50, I'm no expert on the value of old TVs but I'd say that that's way to much for anywhere let alone a yardsale :D

It's too bad but unfornately it's 2009 and more people are having yardsales to make money more so then they used to in order to get rid of unwanted stuff that wasen't being used. Many houses seem to set up and have a yardsale year after year in my town with the same old stuff with very little added instead of throwing out or donating the dreck that didn't sell after the sale is over. The deals still seem to be out there (sp?) in my area non the less even if it's not as many and not as cheap on the average as they used to be.

I've also seen next to no old cart games at the flea market this year and I think it's partly because flea market sellers probably just ain't finding the stuff dirt cheap at yardsales this year and if they do see old games at yardsales they are probably too pricey for them to buy and make a few bucks at the flea.

Here is how I value things:

Old CRT TV's should probably run you no more than $5-10 especially if they are woodgrain from the 80's. These are CRT's they aren't even being sold in stores anymore and they are completely obsolete. You see ads for free TV's all the time on Craigslist and many people have given them out free on freecycle here. Sometimes a TV will not even be claimed even when it is free and works on freecycle. What gives these people the illusion that their old junky TV is worth more than 10$ is beyond me.

I see people trying to pass off old CRT computer monitors for 15-20$, CRT computer monitors should be FREE and no more. I have seen monitors priced at 1$ and they don't move, again, monitors posted on freecycle rarely ever get taken.

VCR should be $1-3

Books should be 25 cents, the library wants your business if they cost any more than that.

VHS should be 25 cents, DVD's are already practically obsolete. I had a yard sale and I couldn't give VHS tapes away 5 for a dollar (I was just giving them away at the end).

Clothes should be bag sale 3$ a bag at the most. Or like 25 cents to 1$ per item. Great way to get rid of unwanted used clothing, especially if you have a lot. At my sale last year I did 1$ a bag and cleaned out quite a bit of clothing. I was just going to donate it anyways so might as well let people take it off the lawn for cheap. Most people who have lawns of used clothing now want 3-5$ per item for used worn out stuff, its not even good brands.

Toys should be extremely cheap, no one wants used toys, because their kids already have too many toys. When I had my sale last year I couldn't get people to take toys for 25 cents an item and they were things that now would cost 5$ at a sale. 80% of toys at sales are missing critical parts or are broken in some way from use and abuse and are full of kid grime and take a long time to clean up.

I get the repeat sales here but I just skip over those (I think every town has this problem), there are enough other sales here where there aren't that many repeats. The repeats are also run by people who usually vastly overprice their stuff so we just avoid.

The problem here is that people are unwilling to bargain this year so far, last year I did CIF at nearly every yard sale and it worked 99.9% of the time. Now I can't even get a dollar off on what I am buying, they want the tagged price and that's it.

Anyone know what kind of language to use when dealing with these people, they say things like "i can't go lower on that", "that one costs more", "I wanted x for that and that's it". Is there anything I can say to counter these statements and to get them to lower their prices? Its like pulling teeth out there.....

^ LOL @ them for getting upset about N64 games then selling you that lot for $30!!

Well you see, the kid had the right idea. After his dad was like "it should be $10 an N64 game!!1", the kid was like "yeah, but this is a yardsale and we can't charge retail prices". So the kid went inside to grab the Wii/GCN games, and his dad was thankfully dealing with someone else while I negotiated with him (I really didn't even negotiate, he set the $30 price and I took it). Was pleased to find everything complete and minty as well, so many games I've found lately have been grimy and smoke-smelling, and scratched to hell.

I think it's my location. I'm middle class but I live around a lot of upper middle class/high class homes who probably aren't interested in going to yard sales.

Like i said craigslist is a great place to advertise whenever you have one. Put up an ad. Alot of bargain hunters will check it out if it looks promising enough.

All you need is enough exposure.

Here's my yardsale finds from a week ago:
Yardsales (my son fell asleep in the car so I used it as an opportunity to hit up a few yardsales which I've never really done before)
1st - selection of cpu games ($2 each), xcom collector's complete , unopened Battle realms , Civ II x 2 (one was gold multiplayer, flop), Steel panthers 2, also bought Mac office 2004 .
2nd - 2 ps2's just sitting there marked $5 each (no games, 1 with NA). I ask if they're working, girl says no and says I can have both for $1!, random puzzles, books and crafts for the kids.
3rd - Nothing marked, teenagers running it. A SHITLOAD of stuff for $50 including sealed print server, 4 linksys routers, SideWinder Dual Strike pc controller, ibm thinkpad dvd player, box full of cuisinart food processor and related parts, Tivo series 2 (didn't know it's worthless), Camcorder that is $100 on ebay, 5 designer keychains that fetch $5-10 each on ebay, sealed minidiscs (worthless), two cordless logitech keyboards, plus more I can't even remember
4th - nothing
5th - $20 1 nice piece of carry-on ralph lauren luggage that rolls, all-in one printer since my wife needs a scanner, old electronic trains, cpu speaker set for my father in law
6th - Guy had random ps1 games, I said how much for all 10 since had oddworld and Resident Evil, she said $5 each, I laughed and just bought RE as oddworld's disc wasn't even there.

Odd day for a garage sale but my grandpa hit one while I was at school and picked up a dreamcast w/ controller, no hookups for $1.50. No idea if it works and he said it's quite dirty but hey a 1.50 is a 1.50.

I live in Western New york and nobody has money so we usually do really good. Plus i sell off my extra video game stuff and put it really high so i won't sell it and somebody buys it anyway. For example i got my 1st super nintendo with 15 games for 20 bucks and sold it for 80 at a yard sale. I was shocked lol. Sry about double post. Forgot i posted.

Hit up a couple this morning that were advertised on craigslist as having some games. First one was a complete disappointment--just random casual-type Nintendo DS games that were all over-priced. Second sale was a little better. Had two Sega Genesis consoles with about 20 games (mostly sports). I passed on those but for $12 I did pick up a toaster-style NES console with no flip-cover, 2 controllers, and 22 games:

Dragon Warrior
Roger Clemens MVP Baseball
Top Gun
Karate Champ
Dragon Warrior III
Punch-Out
Gyromite
Pro Wrestling
Urban Champion
Ice Hockey
NARC
Captain Skyhawk
Tecmo Baseball
John Elway's Quarterback
Bases Loaded
Ultimate Basketball
NES Play Action Football
NFL Football
Double Dragon II
Twin Eagle
3-D Worldrunner
Ninja Gaiden

I had a few doubles out of that set, but figured that Punch-Out, Dragon Warrior III, and Double Dragon II made the set worth it. Tested at home and the console is pretty finicky, but does work with a good number of games. Likely to give it away though, as I have a trusty top-loader already.

Yeah, everything in the lot was cart only. Label on DW 3 was peeling a little too, which would probably affect resale. Planning on holding onto it for my collection though.

Well my 1.50 dreamcast was pretty bad. The power adapter was broken off the board. So i had to resolder to new points. Got it to turn on but it wouldn't read games, so i adjusted/calibrated the laser and got it to read. Now it needs a good cleaning.

There's apparently a yard sale down the street from my house tomorrow. I'm highly doubtful that I'll find anything worth while. Where I live, I'm lucky to even see something game related. But, I can always hope!

Hehe so only saw two or three game related items and none of it worth buying. However did see a PSX that someone had put a sticker on and scribbled in market "early Xbox 360 prototype model v0.00001"

Got a good laugh out of that.

I'm not sure if you'd consider this real good, but I found some stuff game related for once.
At sale one, I only got three DVD's(The Visitation, Rescue From Gilligan's Island, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) for $2.
At sale two I found a pile of NES carts with a Super Nintendo cart on top, all marked 25 cents. Decided to buy all except one, which they said I could have for free. Then I noticed a Dreamcast sitting all alone in the corner with only a controller. I asked if they had the cords, they found them. They also found some cords for an NES, which I got for free. Whole bundle cost me a dollar. Went to the car, opened the Dreamcast, found some demo disc called "Generator Vol. 2." Total damage: $2.75
Sale three was a community sale with over 15 stands and I only got some camera for $1.
Sale four rewarded me with the special edition set of the original Star Wars Trilogy and Celtic Christmas music(?). Damage: $2
At last sale I picked up five VHS movies for $3: Godzilla, Mortal Kombat, Men In Black 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Urban Legend.
Overall, I don't think it was that bad.

NES Games
The Goonies II
Deja Vu
World Class Track Meet
Total Recall
Dragon Power
(free)Dance Aerobics (WTF?)
(SNES)Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World

Thursday and Friday's finds:

Day of the Tentacle (PC CD-ROM): $2

Nintendo 64 System w/ Hookups, Controller
Star Fox 64
Madden NFL 2000
NHL Breakaway '98
Total: $6

NES Power Pad
NES AC Adapter
Nintendo RF Adapter
2x SNES Controller
Total: $6

Mario Power Tennis
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
Total: $18

Day of the Tentacle was Thursday's only find, the rest came from sales on Friday. Not a very good day from the ratio of sales I hit to actual finds. Came across an N64 bundle with Paper Mario, Mario Golf, Micro Machines 64 Turbo CIB, Donkey Kong 64 CIB, and Pokemon Snap CIB, but asking price for everything was $80! As much as I wanted those first three games, I just couldn't get them to come down to a reasonable price. Oh well. The GameCube games were from a pawn shop that I checked out for the first time, not bad prices but pretty disorganized inside, and not much retro stuff.

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3810/dsc05127.jpg

Saturday's finds:

PS1 Memory Card: $2

Tetrisphere
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat 3
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Super Mario All Stars
Super Star Wars
Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures
Wario's Woods
Super Mario Kart
Mega Man X
Mega Man X2
Tetris & Dr. Mario
Total: $30

Another disappointing ratio of sales to finds, but I'm pretty happy with these. They actually belonged to my girlfriend's boss! We talked about games and whatnot, and how he just eBayed his Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Mario RPG, FF3, etc. But oh well, he still left some nice games behind for his sale. The price on the PS1 memory card was a little high, but I need some to bundle with systems that I'd like to sell, so $2 now to get a bundle out the door beats waiting to find one for less.

I decided to go out to a few community/neighborhood yard sales around west LA. There was one listing with TONS of video games that was supposed to start at 6 am, but I got to the address around 7 and there was nothing and no one:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/gms/1207750065.html

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/gms/1206206689.html

Ah well, even if I had gotten there, I'm sure anything good and at a good price would have been long gone.

So at the first community yard sale, in Torrance, I got a few decent things and left tons of "meh" crap behind.

Cart only Zelda Majora's Mask, gold cart with holographic label. Kid had a bunch of games for different systems, along with a typed up price list with most games $5 each. Majora's Mask was the only standout; his list had it for $5. I CiF'd him $1 and he took it without hesitation. I was somewhat surprised he bit, and so quickly, but I really didn't want to spend more than a couple bucks max on it even though I can get some decent coin for it.

Found another guy, around my age, selling game guides and all sorts of game related posters, Nintendo Powers, etc. Of course, no games. I must have asked 50 different people today if they had games, and of course, it's either "nope" or "already gone". Ah well.

So the guy just wants to get rid of these, I CiF him $2 for the pile and he says sure. There's a bunch of anime posters and stickers, also some Nintendo Power stickers and cards and posters. The game guides I can remember (they're in my car) are:

Mario Paint
Super Mario 64
Donkey Kong 64 (1 Nintendo official, 1 Versus)
Super Mario for Gamecube
Final Fantasy 8
Goldeneye
Super Mario Advance 2 x2, and I think one for Advance 3 or 4
some other Nintendo guides, Pokemon something
About half a dozen Nintendo Powers

That was all I got from this community sale, it generally sucked although I did get there about half an hour after it officially started.

Jumped on the 405 and headed up to a community sale near Brentwood/UCLA, and got the following:

20 Disney VHS tapes for $3 bucks, lady wanted $.25 each for VHS tapes so I figured why the hell not, ended up cherry picking all the Disney ones that I figured I could flip. Nothing rare that I know of, just the usuals like all the princess movies and 90's movies, Fox and the Hound, Sword in the Stone, Fantasia 2000, stuff like that.

And the big score for me was at a sale where this clueless chick was selling her husband's camera, it's a Canon Rebel 2000 EOS, yeah it's not digital but takes film but it's a good camera, I ask her how much and she goes "$8"...but her friend and friend's husband at the sale say "no way, ask more are you crazy"...so she goes "$10?". They are flipping out and saying she should ask like $25 at least, blah blah but she has no clue. So I pull outa five and 4 ones and CiF her telling her "$9's what I got, take it or leave it". She took it. Batteries are dead, but there was a new one in the case it came with. It's in perfect condition, the 28-80 mm lense it comes with is perfect. I checked on amazon and the cheapest one is $105 plus shipping. Not bad:
