So at the first community yard sale, in Torrance, I got a few decent things and left tons of "meh" crap behind.
Cart only Zelda Majora's Mask, gold cart with holographic label. Kid had a bunch of games for different systems, along with a typed up price list with most games $5 each. Majora's Mask was the only standout; his list had it for $5. I CiF'd him $1 and he took it without hesitation. I was somewhat surprised he bit, and so quickly, but I really didn't want to spend more than a couple bucks max on it even though I can get some decent coin for it.
Found another guy, around my age, selling game guides and all sorts of game related posters, Nintendo Powers, etc. Of course, no games. I must have asked 50 different people today if they had games, and of course, it's either "nope" or "already gone". Ah well.
So the guy just wants to get rid of these, I CiF him $2 for the pile and he says sure. There's a bunch of anime posters and stickers, also some Nintendo Power stickers and cards and posters. The game guides I can remember (they're in my car) are:
Mario Paint
Super Mario 64
Donkey Kong 64 (1 Nintendo official, 1 Versus)
Super Mario for Gamecube
Final Fantasy 8
Goldeneye
Super Mario Advance 2 x2, and I think one for Advance 3 or 4
some other Nintendo guides, Pokemon something
About half a dozen Nintendo Powers
That was all I got from this community sale, it generally sucked although I did get there about half an hour after it officially started.
No wonder I can't find anything in the Torrance area, I got Karkyco as competition :D. I really don't go yard sailing unless there a lot in a certain area and from my little experience, Torrance is pretty dry. The beach area (Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan) is pretty good for games but I always get the "just sold them" over there. I do find a lot of cheap dvds though.
And good find on the camera!

I found games today but the prices were horrible and the people were unwilling to negotiate so I just didn't buy any. There was a dreamcast bundle for 35$ with 2 controllers and a couple games, nothing really noteworthy for games stuff like sega bass fishing. Everything was in loose condition no boxes. I passed.
Some ps2 games for 5$ each, some more for 10$ each (GH games mind you), and some Xbox games for 5$ each all people who were unwilling to negotiate. The games were nothing spectacular just run of the mill stuff so I bought nothing. Oh and a gamecube for 50$ (no games) again unwilling to negotiate. The same sale with the cube also had the MC grooves dance game and a generic dance pad, this cost 20$ and I was not paying that much for it, especially since I can't really use it.
I did find a couple interesting things though, a battery charger for 25 cents, energizer brand and it works perfectly. Then I bought a spongebob plug n play game for 1$ at a sale and when I got home I found 4 energizer rechargeable batteries in it (talk about a bonus). I have loads of rechargeable batteries but now I have more! I also bought a dickies purse that looks brand new for 50 cents and a microsoft brand wired optical mouse for 50 cents, both look good, the purse probably costs about $25 or more in the stores and I really like it so that was a very good find.
I got
Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons for $5

Sorry about the crappy picture since you can't even make out all of the game titles, if anyone has a legitimate interest in seeing a better picture of the games just let me know. I didn't think it was worth taking another pictures when I noticed how bad this one was since all/most of the games are rather common.

$7
I saw 1 On 1 out at this sale and had to look at it for a few seconds before I figured out what computer system it was for. This is the first (and probably the last) C64 game I've found in the wild. 2 older ladies were running this sale and when I asked about games the one said she had something but wasen't sure exactly what system it was and brought out the box with this Atari stuff in it. I looked it over and offered $5 which was countered with $7 I in turn offered $7 for the Atari stuff with the C64 game included and ended up just paying $7 for the Atari stuff and coughing up the extra buck asking price for the C64 game since it belonged to the other lady running the sale.
NES System With RF Adaptor, AC Adaptor & 2 1st Party Controllers
Games
10-Yard Fight
Battletoads
Cobra Triangle
Excitebike
Ice Hockey
The Legend of Zelda
Life Force
Marble Madness
Metroid
Popeye
Super Mario Bros. (x2)
Super Sprint
(Also 6-7 sleeves with the games)
$20
Saw this sitting out at a sale (behind some PS2 sports games) that wasen't advertised in the paper that I ran into. I looked it over and offered $5 since it didn't have a price on it. The lady said they were asking $20 and wouldn't do it, I tried again this time CIFing a $10 bill, no go didn't phase her one bit. I asked her what the best she was willing to do was and it was pretty apparent that she wasen't dropping the price on the NES with games one cent and I ended up jokingly letting her know that she was killing me at $20 as I paid her since I only had about a dozen in 1s left now and some change.
PSOne With Hookups & 1 1st Party Controller - $2
Didn't even bother to include this in the picture. They were asking $5 and took $2 when I pointed out that the lid didn't latch shut right, I probably would have left it behind but my one friend has been asking me to grab a PSOne if I run across one cheap and I figured I'd take a chance on this one at $2.
Twisted Metal: Black - $2
Asking price was $2, saw about a dozen games at this sale late in the day only other game I remember that wasen't crap or really common was Rygar. This is really no big deal but it was a nice little find for me since it'll replace my copy without a manual which was really bothering me since I only have a few PS2 games missing manuals.
Non Find BS
Right before I got the Atari I was at a sale that said they just sold an Atari (this was probably about 9 AM) so it was interesting how I ended up lucking into one right after that.
All of this stuff was from Saturday since I only went to 3 sales around town Friday since it rained. The first 3 finds were from the same neighborhood I had some decent finds in last week.
Out of 10 yardsale in my borough this weekend only 1 of them was a house I've never been to so for today (Saturday) I made a route that went through 3-4 other nearby areas but even with it being more work it ended up working out since I did pretty good. I was probably lucky that it didn't end up being a dry week on a week were I spent more time out in one day (4 hours) and more time doing up a yardsale route.
Not much else this week typical we still play (N64, NES etc. etc.) kids didn't want to part with any games or something I that I missed out on that probably wouldn't have been of much interest to me like Xbox games.
A few things I forgot about that is partly why I stopped going all around outside of my town every week yardsaling.
1) The unattended sale, I ran into 2-3 of these today and notice that it's usually the worse areas in town that I tend to run into these at more often.
2) Sales I can't find, couldn't find a few sales and I usually circle around for a few minutes wasting time & gas when I should probably just move on. I'll have to double check but I had a relatively good idea of where 2 of the sales were that I couldn't find the street for and think that google maps was probably off.
3) The famaous sign following game as somebody mentioned a few days ago. I should just ignore signs and only go to actual sales I see that ain't on my list as I see signs poorly done that I can't read while driving by and who knows it's usually a sign for a sale on my list (when I stop and read them or if I'm on foot) or could even be a sign that wasen't taken down from a sale last week or even longer ago :D

I pretty much skipped going out this weekend. Most of the neighborhoods near me don't usually have much and I've been a little drowsy in the morning.
Here's what I got last week

3 Nintendo guides

So I went back to that yard sale that I posted yesterday, the one that was non-existent yesterday. This was because I emailed the guy last night, had half a mind to chew him out but I'm glad I didn't, because he said because of the "rain" (drizzle, really), he didn't have the sale yesterday and was definitely going to do it today. I got out there about 7 (he told me he was starting at 6, yeah right), and the dude was just pulling stuff out.
Not only that, when I first pulled, up, I thought it was bullshit because once again no one was there. And this was in a GHETTO neighborhood, I mean tagging on the walls and the houses. I thought, shit, someone is either trying to set up some 211's, or fucking with the people that live at the property listed. Anyway, since the ad said 13450 I took a chance (no way am I driving out of the way twice for nothing) I knocked on the house in front that said 13450 and the old man said that someone in the back unit was supposed to be having the sale. So I go way to the back and there he is.
His stuff was in generally standard ghetto light to medium "beat to shit" condition, so first thing I ask about is the Wii, how much. "$300 for everything". The Wii games sucked, so no way was I paying that and didn't really need one. He wanted similar ridiculously high amounts for the other systems, all of which were boxed (boxes beaten up a bit). $50 for the SNES + SF2, $40 for the Genesis, $80 for the PS2 slim with scratched to shit disc only games. I really didn't want to bother with negotiating for some questionable systems, especially with the IAP so absurd. Dude was definitely smoking something.
Anyway, he had a box of roughly 50, maybe 55 NES carts. I took a look, and the quality of the lot was generally decent. A lot of quality/higher demand carts I could resell. He has no idea what he wants for all of them, so I CiF him $20. Nope, he was thinking at least $80. Ridiculous. But a few are complete (Adventures in the Magical Kingdom, 3 Simpsons games, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Rygar) that I definitely want. Anyway, he says he'll take $50 for the lot of NES games, otherwise he wants $2 a game because of all the usual excuses - "these are worth more, I could sell these on ebay for a lot more, I got a lot of emails about the games, blah blah blah". Sure they're worth more...because you have to go to the trouble of selling them - listing them, shipping them, dealing with the ebay hassles and fees, and I don't care about anyone else, as I'm standing there with cash in my hand. Anyway I'm using every trick, showing the damage on a couple of the carts, their age, I can emulate them for free, the anti-ebay arguments, all of that and dude is just not having any of it.
Dude was EXTREMELY resistant to CiF. I mean I am a DAMN good negotiator and damn convincing. I upped my offer to $33 for the the lot, and he still said no. So I said fuck it and cherry picked the best and most valuable games out of the box, 25 or 26 total and gave him $25 which he finally agreed to.
I got all the boxed and complete games, SMB3, River City Ransom, TMNT 1 and 2, Zelda, Dragon Warrior 1-3, King's Knight (Square game, cart has a small cigarette burn on it, is this game any good? I can't remember it), and some other games. I don't have them in front of me so I can't remember all of them. Anyway, a bit more than I would have liked to pay for them, but a coupe of them will pay for themselves.

I hate hate HATE when people don't let you haggle. You feel like slapping the hell out of them because it's overpriced anyways with or without a discount!
I saw a bunch of NES carts today as well, all sports except for a few decent games like double dragon II, dungeons and dragons, some other weird RPG i never heard of before, rad racer, etc. etc. Only problem? $5 each. No way.
I did get the replacement restorized NES i wanted though.

Edit: And with this update, I'm up to over 2000 games
A lot of good stuff for Sunday, but before I start, I'd like to mention I got to haggle with an 8 year old kid over the Genesis lot. It was rather amusing since I had tried to haggle with his mom (she offered me half price for the Genesis lot if I took the kid :D ), but when I tried to haggle her, she told me that her son was selling it. I asked his price, he said $10, I offered $5 and he shot back right away with $7. I paid his price, rather impressed that he didn't back down and instead haggled back. Smart kid.
Genesis lot with 2 controllers, hookups (not pictured) and the following games: Sonic 1, Sonic Classics, Vectorman, Frogger, Gunstar Heroes, Taz in Space, Primal Rage, Toy Story, Jurassic Park, Krusty's Super Fun House, Sonic Spinball, MK2 and Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure. - $7
Suikoden (disc only) - $4 (Anyone have a box & manual for this?)
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD/ RE5 Theme codes for the 360 - $3 (sweet deal, costs 1450 points otherwise, I got them for 240)
System Shock cd rom version - $2
Guitar Hero Aerosmith Bundle x3 (2 bundles not pictured, 360 versions) and Guitar Hero 3 (360) - $30
Lot of 3D0 games including: Need for Speed, Road Rash, Space Ace, CPU Bach, Shockwave, Microcosm, Theme Park, and Immercenary - $20

Some people are taking the money here when I basically shove it in their face, which is what you are supposed to do, but some other people just won't take it even if you tell them its not going anywhere at that price. Mind you I have also been CIF'ing with change because I have so much of it, at least it is being taken. On the contrary I ran into a couple houses this weekend giving stuff away for free because they were sick of sitting there and wanted to be rid of the stuff! Stuff that is not priced just does not sell, because no one wants to deal with back and forth haggling and most people won't even try.
Every house is different here but it seems its either one extreme or the other, someone will be really really cheap, or someone will be extremely overpriced. There were houses that had everything for 25 cents and it still was not moving.
There are some things you just won't sell, even if its free people won't take it.
CIF also seems to work best at the middle or end of the day when things are slowing down, or if the person has had next to no business at their yard sale. If its at the beginning they will say they have a whole day ahead of them and won't take the money.

This is very true, but unfortunately more often than not it works against you as a buyer because if you wait until the end of the day, it is far more than likely that anything that is remotely good will be long gone at that point.

Damn snotknocker, I'm jealous of your gameboy lot. Buying that on ebay would be like 15x what you paid for.
Hey Kuros, what do you do with all your findings? You sell them or something? You always have a lot from garage sales.

Well, if he's anything like me (and no doubt the rest of us), he adds and upgrades his personal collection - say I found a complete game that I previously only had a cart only copy of, I would compare the conditions of the carts, select the best one and add that along with the box/instructions/etc. to my personal collection, and sell the lesser cart only copy. Then, with everything else that was extra, it would go onto my tradelist, ebay, amazon marketplace, craigslist etc.
Congrats on hitting 2,000! I'm probably up around there, but I've never really counted.

So I said fuck it and cherry picked the best and most valuable games out of the box, 25 or 26 total and gave him $25 which he finally agreed to.
I'd say you did good. Sure it wasen't $10 or less for a solid older system with games but it's good to hear that it worked out for you in the end and you got some good stuff cheap even if you had to go through a ton of shit from a guy that was basically trying to open shop on his lawn and not looking to have a yardsale to get rid of unwanted stuff.
Before last year I never paid more then $10 for an NES with games at a yardsale but it seems like every year deals like that are becoming fewer and further between.

Yep, I do the same. I just got done making an Excel file of everything I have, its completeness, and condition so if I'm out and see something for a steal, I can just pull out of my phone and see if it's superior to what I have.

I went to a flea market this weekend. Saw a lot of overpriced games and a lot of sports games. I was able to find a vendor selling a few boxed NES games. A lot of them were in pretty bad condition and were bad games (Ex. Home Alone with a sunfaded/torn box). But I did find a couple of pretty good games in pretty good condition. So I picked up Mappy Land and Kiwi Kraze both with original boxes for $8. My first NES boxed games WOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The place I bought my super mario bros. cartridge had alot of other games in the stack but flipping through every one of them was sports. Eh, waiting to find a nice RPG like final fantasy or a megaman X game for under a buck. Megaman X 2 and 3 are 2 i'm still looking for.

Exactly. Always compare for the better one. The only problem is sometimes I can't tell which cart is in better condition. Then I spend way to long asking my girlfriend who doesn't really care and only placates me on the subject.
I spent probably 15 minutes the other day debating a dragon warrior 2 cart.
One had an indent on the sticker if you held it up to the light the other looked better but it had one of the little holding pieces of plastic break inside the cartridge. I opened it up and took it out but now I knew there was a break in the plastic on the inside. I spent a while trying to decide and mulling it over, and even now I don't know if I kept the "better" cart.
2000 is impressive. I should actually start counting mine. I recently picked up some nes games for about $1.00 each. One I grabbed was Contra. I was like score I somehow missed this over the years. Got home and started digging through the boxes of games and I already had 3 of them.
I then made a list of my NES games on a spread sheet, next I will move on SNES and so forth.
The hardest part with the yard sales and craigslist is trying to get rid of extra systems. They always seem to stack up in my closet until I finally run out of room completely and have go test them all and list them all. I'm currently working my way through 3 ps1's, two super nintendos, 2 nintendos, 1 saturn, and anything else I find tossed in my closet. At least the PS2's and Gamecubes I immediately bring to the local gamestops.

Yeah I am pretty obsessive about keeping the best cart for myself too, when I sell carts on ebay I always make sure that I list the flaws though so people don't get upset. I spend time debating it but probably not so much for a common game, but something like DWII I can understand why you would spend some time debating which one to keep. Most of my replacements have been atari games I have gotten in big lots, then I have to go through the whole lot and figure out which carts look better than the ones I have.

I have plenty of dry weeks, this was my first really good one this year. The comics/graphic novels were definitely one of my best finds. All of the comics were from the last year too, nearly all the dark reign books I think. But my favorite was the little Simon Belmont figure, I missed out on that when it was a preorder bonus.

I just found something interesting in that $5 box of Sega junk I bought on Saturday: a multi-screen Pinball Game and Watch. Condition is pretty bad and it's missing the battery cover. I'll find to find some batteries to see if it works. Hopefully it's built like a tank like most other Nintendo hardware.

I know a couple of you have already seen this at IFT, but I thought I'd share it here as well.
I stumbled upon a yard sale this weekend and found a goldmine that will possibly keep on giving. This woman had stacks of NES, SNES, and Genesis games. She said she had bought out some video stores. The stuff she had Saturday was from just one, but she said she'd be back open Thursday and have the other stuff. I'll definitely be going back.
Some of these I picked up for my collection, and others to sell. The last pic is probably the best thing I've ever found at a yard sale.
She wanted $3 apiece, but said she'd lower it to $2 if I bought a lot.

Here are some pics. The inner ring of the disc read PSRM-022800.

Yep. It took me forever. It took me about five months (though I slacked) I wound up hitting around 3,000 games and 600+ DVDs. I recently completed my accessories-- next I gotta catalog what systems I have exactly, then move onto my magazines and strategy guides (which is a scary thought, I'm still debating whether or not I want to do all of that crap in the bookcase)
Then... then I think I'll be done. But it's good to have to for insurance purposes-- they probably don't use the condition information, that's more for me.

Did she say what the store was called? A lady bought out a local store and then decided it was to hard for her 18 yo son to run and move out of town. I'm not sure where french lick is compared to Bluffton, but I do know they had a crap load of CIB NES stuff. I wish I would have known rarity of stuff when they were still in town, they based prices on popularity, (ie. anything mario, GTA, Sonic, Ect... was high everything else was low.)

According to Mapquest, I'm about 4 hours southeast from you. She didn't say, but a couple of the carts have rental stickers that say the store was in Nashville, which is about an hour south of Indianapolis.
I'm still debating on whether or not to sell the Flintstones game. It's nice to have, but that much money is hard to pass up. Like somebody said, I'll probably keep the other complete ones and sell my cart-only copies.

Ok I think I got a pretty good haul this weekend. Its not as good as others post on this site but its very good considering my area. Prices were cheap this weekend, CIF was taken almost every time except for a few houses at the end of my run which lasted from 11am till 3pm. In those cases I was just CIF'ing for stupid stuff so I really don't care. I did run into a couple houses giving away things at the end which was cool.
4 Nintendo 64 controllers, 2 with box. 2$ each. This was well worth it as the controllers are nearly perfect (no loose joysticks) and they are in high demand now on ebay. There were a lot more controllers and I would have bought them all day long at 2$ each however the other ones were not in as good condition as the ones I picked. This came from a lady's house who formerly had a store. Prices were all over the place on stuff, she obviously didn't know current rates for video game systems. I also got an empty GBA box from this house for nothing, it has boxes and manuals and is perfect. I have lots of GBA's so this was perfect for me.
Sega Pico for 1$. Probably the most bizzare find of the day. I found Pico games last year for 25 cents each so now I have the system to go with them. No idea if it works, I will post back on condition in a few days. No cords or adapters but I have plenty and it only takes standard AV cords. Thankfully this was in a bin with a bunch of baby toys and the person happily took my 1$. Yeah I am hardcore enough to buy a Sega Pico.
2 N64 games for 1$ each. Spiderman and Gex 3.
Ok here is one of the best finds, Digimon world 3 for the PS1. This came in a lot of PS1 games that I paid 5$ for. The other games in the lot are:
Strike Point
Syphon Filter
Destruction Derby 2
Beyblade
Ninja : Shadow of Darkness
Demo's (included with above lot)
.hack infection
hot shots golf 2
legend of legaia
some other demo from a magazine The games are not perfect but they were cheap so I took my chances with them. Digimon world 3 at least has its case and manual.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Complete Best CD - 1$. This was really interesting as I almost never find CD's at yard sales because I like japanese music. This was from a lady who said her son just hauled off a bunch of anime stuff to take in the trash and if I would have gotten there sooner I could have either had or bought more. Too bad I was late on this one as its rare to find anime stuff around here. There was a bunch of gundam and other manga there but I am not really interested in that so I didn't buy it.
Ok those are really all the noteworthy finds. I did buy a few other things like a glue gun for 10 cents, B-daman thing for 50 cents and some storage boxes for 25 cents each which are badly needed. Keep in mind I am in this for more than just games so I felt today was pretty successful.
I also ran into a house with a bunch of interesting toys. There was a Pogo ball for 25 cents that I was tempted to buy but it was large and space is at a premium here (and I just picked up the huge Sega Pico a few minutes earlier). Oh god I remember those things from when I was a kid, advertised so much on TV its nearly ingrained.

Genesis 2 w/ hookups, 2 controllers, 1 PS controller and 33 games - TOTAL $10
Asked for games at this sale and the lady said she had some Genesis stuff in the garage and dug it out. She said she
had to call her husband to see if it was OK with him to sell it. As she was on the phone I heard her ask how much to her
husband, then she was like in what seemed like disbelief "HOW MUCH" I immediately CIF'd $10 and she said to her husband,
he's offering $10 I'm taking and she took my money. I heard some loud grumbling from the husband on the phone - it
appeared as though she just hung up on him after that. Under normal circumsatance I would have offered less but listening
to the conversation she was having I knew the husband was looking for more, so I almost instinctively shoved the $10 in
her face which kind of distracted her from what her husband was saying on the phone and she snapped up the cash. This
is a perfect example of CIF'ing successfully. ALWAYS have the money ready and ALWAYS be prepared to act quickly
http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/5938/1001819.jpg
PS1 with hookups, controller memory card and 3 games - TOTAL $2
IAP was $5 CIF'd $2. games are all mint and Street racers was on my want list because it's an 8 player simultaneous
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/7160/1001821k.jpg
IAP on this stuff was $1 each, tried to CIF $3 but got a "c'mon $1 each?" - TOTAL -$6
complete Mortal Kombat trilogy PS1 not pictured
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/1494/1001820s.jpg
TOTAL -$1 Bought this at a sale with about 10 CD's at .25 each. Asked for games while siftingthrough CD's and the guy
came out with these 2. I was initially going to pass but everything at the sale was priced cheap so I asked how much to
which I got .50 each so I took them. I was suprised to find out that the UFC game has about a $20 + value.
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/6030/1001822cfn.jpg
Kid had a SP that case was pretty scratched on and wanted $10. I asked how much just for the games and he said
.50 each on the GB and $3 on the DS game. That seemd more than fare and the kid was pretty young maybe 11 or 12
soo... TOTAL - $6
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/9779/1001824k.jpg
Asked for games at this sale and the lady came out with this. She wanted $3 but after pointing out some minor corrosion
on the batteries and offering .50, I walked away with it. Labels are a little dirty and show age but it works fine and is a
cool little piece to have in my collection if I don't already have one packed away some where

Surprise score!
Had noted (mapped out) what I perceived to be about 75+ sales today...and what do I find while following signs on my way home?
A boxed (complete) pristine Virtual Boy with 4 games! asking $10 offered $5 (accepted) while talking to the home owner...noted a sega (passed on the system but grabbed a 6 game in one cart...) got for free!
My second VBoy but first complete....
At other sales -
$1 GBA Pokemon Emerald complete with perfect box/manual.
$6 360 Marvel/Forza, 2 Xbox games (young men went into the house to retrieve these upon my request, so I paid what they asked)
Free! pile Sega 16 bit complete with game
Left my name and number for hopefully a minty SNES plus games...we'll see if he calls...
Passed on a handheld leapster with 4 games for $7 (kinda regretting that one...)
Handfull of Disney DVDs $1 each
Oh and had one of these moments :wall::wall::wall:
Bought an "Iceman" off craigs for $40 this week. (it's a gizmo where you fill a lil cooler with ice/water and a pump circulates cold water through a pad that you wrap around an injured knee/ankle/shoulder/elbow etc.) The cold last for hours Vs refreezing pads etc...$40 was a good price for the model and attachments received and I have only noticed a couple of these ever at hundreds of sales visited (both were missing the ac cord) and today a house has one for $5 and throws in a second one for free (missing the power cord on the free one)...lol what are the odds of such an unusual item that I've kept my eyes out for at least the last couple years and finding it less than a week after paying 8x as much...that's what I get for not trusting the rummage sale gods...

I've come across a couple of similar EB Ice units. I usually only paid around $5 for each. I kept one of them for myself and have sold several on ebay for around $50 each. These things feel really nice.

These 3 items were all from different sales. The PSone Was labeled as needing TV hookups which was nice as most people are clueless about such things it seems when selling something like a Playstation at a yardsale, $2 was the IAP.
GameCube Memory Card (251) - $1
A buck was the asking price, this was at the same house I got a ton of stuff from last year around August IIRC (mostly GameCube games). I showed up about 10 minutes early on Saturday but very little was new from what didn't sell last year video game wise. I was glad I only spent a buck this year but wouldn't have minded finding a good game or two relatively cheap with what I bought.

I saw this sale advertised on craigslist about a week early and it mentioned an NES with about 20 games in the ad. It also mentioned gold or silver and it's value so that had me even more worried about the NES stuff not being dirt cheap, I was taking an educated guess that it was going to be marked anywhere from about $25 to close to $100.
I got to the sale just before 8 on Friday and the NES stuff was marked $50. I tried offering $20 and when that didn't fly asked about meeting me in the middle. The lady called her husband and it was $50 firm politely mentioning that it was going for more on eBay and that he may even just eBay it if it doesn't sell. I asked about going cheaper if it didn't sell after the yardsale and she said he might, so I'm guessing he may have done $40-45 late Saturday to avoid the hassle of selling online which they obviously didn't want to bother with.
I left without buying it and ended up going back for it just before heading out of that town about an hour later since I only spent .25 after a few yardsales (I actually had $50 in cash on me and some change) and figured it wouldn't be worth saving a few bucks and making a special trip out to maybe get it Saturday afternoon if I decided to try my luck at doing so. Talking to the guy it seems as if he wasen't crazy about selling it but probably needed the money and/or his wife told him it had to go :D

I asked about games at this sale and the guy said he had a Nintendo with about 25 games in the attic and took my number (that always ends well) but lucky for me his wife just came home after he took my number and he went up and brought out this box of Atari stuff that weights about 28 pounds! I looked it over and offered $5 which he took. I was very happy when I saw Barnstorming since I've been hoping to find it for nostagic reasons, same goes for Kangaroo which I remember playing way back when and just noticed when I was going through the games a few hours ago :D

Yea, I do find a lot of PC games. I sometimes have better luck finding PC games than console or handheld games. I guess people don't think they're as valuable as console games.

I used to love playing tie fighter. I haven't seen grim fandango or sam and max, but I will pick them up if I see them (I always wanted them, but I didn't have a computer). I did see a boxed final fantasy VII PC for $15, but I thought that was too expensive since people were selling sealed ones on ebay for $30 each at the time (about 1-2 years ago). I have the same problem in Illinois. I think the systems with shorter shelf life like saturn, lynx, jaguar, sega cd/32x, 3DO and Turbografix16 are much harder to find in the midwest. I have never seen a Saturn, Lynx, Jaguar, or a 3do (until I bought one last week) at a garage sale.

Yea, finding some of those consoles and games isn't very easy out here in the midwest. I'm usually lucky to find any games at all. Strangely enough, I have been able to find some rarer consoles out here. I've found a Vectrex, JVC X'Eye, and a Laseractive. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck tracking down games for either the Laseractive or the Vectrex.
I'm still hoping I can track down a Turbografix16, 32x, and some more saturn games. I also dream of finding a Neo Geo and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I think it's like that everywhere, sadly. The limited quantity relative to the more mainstream and successful/popular consoles makes the lesser knowns so much rarer and difficult to find. It can be hard at times, but I keep on going out early in the hopes of finding stuff. I don't usually find much, but do find somethings to add to my collection and some stuff to sell. I'm hoping I can sell that sound mixer I found for around a $100 on ebay. I want get some money to build a new computer.

Ive never seen the rarer consoles here. I think you have to go to an area that is more wealthy to find those, you have to find an area where people bought the latest of everything no matter what in order to find them. I have never seen a lynx or a 3DO, I would probably crap my pants if I did see one. I really would like to find a lynx too. Just this past year I saw my first nomad and first sega pico systems that I have seen in 10 years of game collecting from yard sales. Last year I saw my first virtual boy ever.
I can't believe how much the Pico originally retailed for, 139$ that is really insane. It is basically a very expensive coloring book.
I am to the point on my collection that all I need is the more uncommon stuff now, but that stuff is very hard to find.
This area is filled with common consoles, everyone had a PSX, N64 or a Genesis.

Update on my $10 3DO. It must have some type of disc read error. It powers up and I can get to the title screen, but I can not go much further. On Street Fighter I got to the character selection screen, and alone in the dark, I got to the story screen. It just resets itself and goes back to the 3DO start up screen or the save file screen (like a Playstation without a disc in it).

thanks! my favorite finds were the DC GD-Rs and the GBA dev tool thing. i can't believe i found them within two weeks of one another. i'd love to try the DC discs but i don't have a system disc, which i believe is required to get them to boot.

Yeah, that's definitely awesome. Didn't you also find a PS1 dev system awhile back? There must be a lot game studios in your area.
Try downloading Utopia Boot Disc? Maybe that would work?
two PS1 debugging stations, but they each have different power inputs, which is kinda weird.
the following is all speculation on my part, but i'll try to test the theory soon: i don't think the Utopia disc will work; i think the system disc has some special data on it that tells the system what to do with unfinished games, whereas the Utopia disc just tells the system that the disc being booted is genuine, and not a copy. my hunch is that if there is a homebrew or copied image of the system disc "out there", i would load the Utopia disc first, then the system disc copy, then finally one of the GD-Rs. who knows if the DC will even let you get that far, though.
they're still fun to own, either way.

Nice pick-ups.
What I really don't understand is where you guys find PS3 and Xbox 360 games for less than $5. Granted I don't go yardsaling or out to flea markets, but I would think most people would price them higher, especially with the gouging I've seen at pawns and on craigslist. And it's not like these are bargin bin games; Skate 2 and Hot Shots Golf.
Makes me jealous to say the least

I saw a whole stack of Xbox360 games last year for 7$ each. Cheap enough IMO and it looked liked there were some good quality games in the bunch. However I don't own an Xbox360 so no need for me to buy them.
I think you might have some luck on X360 games because a lot of people get red ring on their system and they just don't want to deal with it so they throw the system out and sell off all their games, in other words they just want to be rid of it. There are people out there who don't want to deal with microsoft or don't know that microsoft will fix their console or issue a replacement for free. When it breaks they assume its gone and they toss it out and sell all the games. Just watch out for huge gouges in the discs.

Well, ok... I was looking for games but didn't find any. I then saw a PaRappa The Rapper figure. On closer inspection, it was an alarm clock. I asked how much they wanted and I dug into my pocket for money but only had 3 ones. I told them all I got was $3 and they said sold. That's about it. People seemed normal and all. Pretty surprising find for me.
Ok I figured it out. Here's the pic. I put my Ipod next to it to show its size. The yellow button on his beanie is what you press to turn the music on and off

I just got back from a community yard sale today. Not the greatest day, but I was out and back after an hour with some finds...
First hit... GENESIS GAMES!
Bart's Nightmare (cart only)
Mortal Kombat II CIB
Toy Story CIB, but the box is pretty battered and in one of those weird sleeves. I'm guessing even battered, it's probably a little rarer due to the fact it's a kid's game in a cartboard case.
Anyway, $2.25 for those three. They had some PSOne titles for $1 a pop, but nothing good. Apparently they were all some woman in her late 20's-30's games.
Second hit, I picked up an SNES controller in a box full of random kid's stuff for $1. No games or anything else gaming related.
That's it gaming wise. I also got a Fort Augusta mug(local city fort) that was a quarter. I got a matching one a few weeks back for a dime. Oh, I saw the Pac-Man glass I saw last year. I forgot the price and got amped when I spotted it, then remembered it was $5. I've got two identical ones, one I got for .25 and another for $2 that I thought was steep.
Not too bad, considering this year's been mostly miss period for me, especially gaming wise. I'm hoping the other community yard sale that's tomorrow only has some good deals as well.

Some items you can get a lot for. I don't plan on selling any of those Lucas Arts games though. I do sell stuff on ebay, but my primary goal when yard saling is expanding my collection of classic games. I really want to find more quality SNES and Saturn games, but they're rather hard to find in my area.
I have found 2 large totes of SNES games in the last 2 years, but like you satrun games are hard to find in our area, the only ones I have found at garage sales was a stack of them under some N64 games in a box I bought last year. I saw some dude selling abunch in the glenbrook mall afew months ago, i'm not sure if he still has them.

The tray-load G3s aren't worth much since running Tiger on them is pretty tough to accomplish, and they have low caps on RAM. The slot-load ones aren't bad, they can go up to 1GB of RAM and run Tiger just fine. From my experience, a 350MHz, 512MB slot-load will go for about $50. If it's faster, has a DVD drive or CD-RW, or has more RAM, then you should be able to get more money.
They can be pretty handy, we're using one as a remote Time Machine and print server.

I really hate that. It's not fair to the rest of us that go out and a pain for the people running the sale. I know I would be annoyed if someone came to my door at 6 AM.
I didn't have much luck this weekend. I skipped Friday because of the storms. Today I only found Mario Party 8 for $3. I'm going to trade that in towards a PSP game, most likely.

I usually go to sales in the NE and NW side of town. I don't like to spend the gas to go the the southside and I don't like driving downtown.
How was it confusing? The big thing up here is neighborhood sales. Most of the sales only happen when the neighborhood has its sale, and there are a lot of neighborhoods. They also primarily start on Friday. I rarely find games on Saturday. You can also treat some of the neighborhoods like small towns. Arlington and Pine Valley are very big sales. Arlington is usually busy enough that they print off maps for just that neighborhood and have porta potties brought in.
One thing that does help is getting the morning paper here. In the classified section, there is a color coded map that shows where all the sales are. That is a great help.

x2 1st Party Dreamcast Controllers Each With A VMU
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
$3
Dreamcast Controllers were each marked $1 along with a generic one I passed on. They had a Gameboy Color (2 Color system yellow and something else) in carrying case with a link cable, some Taz Mania GB game, Mickey Mouse: Magic Wands! I think & Zelda all marked $10. I offered $5 for it and the DC controllers to which the lady said she had to ask a guy (who was busy cooking hot dogs on the grill) when she told him my offer he just said "no" and turned right back around to what he was doing lol I told the lady I was just mostly interested in Zelda and couldn't warrent paying that so she offered what I got for $3 (she must have been his wife).

Everything I'm posting this week, I'm posting in the order I found it and by the time I found this stuff it was about noon. I saw a box with some kids books and this video game stuff. I offered $2 for the box minus the books. This is probably the worst spread of NES games I've ever seen lol

Saw this with no price, beside it was a box of CDs for .25 each or 5 for a dollar. I picked out 3 CDs and got them with V-Tennis for a buck. I shouldn't have bothered picking this up but I'm a sucker for long cases and it's in perfect shape.

Game Gear With NBA Jam, Coplifter III & A Random AC Adaptor - $3
This was the only thing I picked up today (Saturday) With it raining off and on this morning & afternoon. I stopped by a few sales in town that are addresses I've never been to shortly after 11 this morning when the rain let up some. Marked $5, system wasen't working so I offered $2 which was countered with $3 which was good enough for me as I don't have Coplifter III.
(Almost) Non Find BS
I went to about 60 (largely in part thanks to two decent sized street sales) yardsales this weekend and was out Friday for almost 5 hours total. I also forgot to mention I got The Sims on PC for .25 IAP at a sale which I already gave to my niece and didn't take a picture of.

Sup fellow CAGs,
My cousin called and let me know about this "awesome" deal he just got for a bunch of old school games which includes Final Fantasy 7 for the PS1. He just bought this entire list of games for $125 and I told him that he overpaid for the lot. And no I'm just not being a hater about this deal. ^_^

Almost made a mess of things when I saw Raystorm, one of my all time fav SHUMP game, in which he turned around and just gave it to me since my B-day is coming up next week. ^_^
So CAG members in order to put this argument behind us, in your honest opinion, would you pay $125 for this whole lot of games?

Only find of the weekend, since it was way too rainy most of the time. First trip to the flea market this year, and it looks pretty much like the same vendors as when I went there last year. Found this all just lying on the ground at a sale, normally I'd pass on this many sports games, but the Genesis 3 is just so darn cute! They were asking $20, I countered with $10, and we met in the middle at $15.

Cool, when I tried to hit lower fort wayne I did it like I do decatur, just driving around looking for sales. that makes sense how you do it.
DARKSLIME: I have never hit huntington, I know it has a large gaming comunity so it is probably worth hitting, I will warn you that there are 3-4 resellers from there that post on the local craigslist, but I'm not sure if they garagesale. there is also a local gaming shop to checkout if you want the owner is a huge douch but the store is worth checking out. I thing it's called the collectors box.

I'm glad my town doesn't seem to have resellers. In fact, I hardly run across anyone buying or even really looking at games when I go.
I got rained out yesterday, from a street sale. I'm pretty sure it was listed as rain or shine, but usually half the people don't bother and plus it's a mile walk and back. This coming weekend is the local car show, so there's usually a bunch of yardsales nearby.

cool, I may have actualy met your brother then, a friend talked me into playing at the state MTG championship with him last fall and I was talking to the guys from the collectors box there...although seeing so many MTG players in one place kinda made me never want to play again. lol

Yea, you might not have a lot of luck just driving around here. You need to have an idea of where you're wanting to go. As far as the south side goes, I think the Southwest is probably nicer. The Southeast is a little older.
Pyoobez, it sounds like you are lucky. I think there are resellers here, competition from other yard sale goers, people just taking stuff to mcvans, and maybe just people weren't into games that much in this area. I do sell a little bit of stuff I find, but most goes into my collection. The problem is most of the time I can barely find anything at all compared to some of the other people in this thread.

pretty good weekend, value-wise.
my favorite find this weekend was the GBA SP. when i caught sight of it, there were several people between it and myself, and i figured one of them was gonna grab it before i could squeeze in there and lay claim. i didn't know the price yet, and i was secretly hoping that if someone did grab it, the price would be ridiculous and i wouldn't want it anyway (am i the only one that does this?). anyway, after a moment, there were two women standing more or less side-by-side, blocking me from it. the one to my left bent down to rummage in a box, just as the other was turning toward the table with the GBA. in an act of pure desperation, i leaned over as far forward as i could, resting one hand on the edge of the same box the lady was digging in, and just plucked it in my right hand with my fingertips; please note that this unfortunately positioned my face mere milimeters above the hind quarters of the bent-over lady -- should she have stood up, we would've both been in for a rude surprise. as i righted myself, it became clear that the lady to my right was noticing the Game Boy at the precise moment that i grabbed it, and was clearly irritated that 1), i grabbed it first, and 2), that i was willing to wedge myself between her and the other lady in order to get it. all this and i didn't even know the price yet!
i flip it over and find to my pleasure that there is a Yoshi cartridge already inserted; bonus! i turn to the seller, hold it up, and ask how much he wants for it. he seems skeptical and asks what it is, as i'm walking toward him. i flip it open and hold it out for him to see. he says, "oh, the game boy? i don't know, a dollar?" as i'm asking if he has any other games for it (he says they didn't), i immediately open my wallet and hand him a dollar. i say "thanks", and as i'm just starting to walk away, a woman (turned out to be his wife), walks over and says, verbatim, in a low tone (but loud enough so i can hear), "why did you just do that? was that a game boy? just the games for that thing are like twenty to forty bucks!", followed by something to the effect of "well, that's annoying" (or "irritating" -- i don't recall exactly). the guy gives me a helpless look and starts to argue with her, but at this point i can't hear what they're saying. i'm about to leave the sale, but without thinking, i walk over to the lady and say, "i didn't mean to overhear what you were saying, but just so you know, this is the old Game Boy system, and isn't that hot anymore." she says, "really? are you sure?", and i reply, "yeah. the one that everyone wants right now is the DS -- the one that flips up with two screens, and you use 'a pen' on the screen to play." at this she relaxes, and says, "yeeahh.. you're right. well, thank you -- that's better. i thought he (her husband) was being stupid." we all laughed for a second. and i thanked them again and started to leave. the guy follows me real quick, leans in and says, "thanks man -- she was gonna give me s**t about this all day." we both laughed, and i left.

that's what i thought, too. i mean, what i said was true: the GBA SP is old and not really that sought-after, but at the same time, the guy more or less "gave it away" by selling it for a buck. he lowballed himself!

Finally had a little bit of luck this last week. After several flea market type yard sales ($18 for fall of the footclan for GB, $25 for Family Guy PS2 -- pass buddy) I happened onto a family yardsale. A guy had a sign that said $2 all GBA games. I picked up Namco Museum and asked if he had anything else. He went into the house and came back with the GBA and it had Pokemon Ruby in it. $5 for the lot including the GBA. Not horrible.
My wife also managed to buy $1500 worth of furniture for $120. She obviously did better than me.

oh no, don't get me wrong; if you haven't got any of those titles yet, that price is great. i already have at least five of the games, and more Genesis/MD consoles than i care to admit (over 12). so for me, it would've had to have been almost free for me to jump on it, and i figured i wouldn't talk them down from $30 to $10, ya know? ;)

Not much of a story behind any of these, the last lot was from a dude who claimed that he once had a near complete NES collection, but sold it all a while ago. haha! no, it's cool. honestly, the first 3 or 4 Genesis systems i bought were from a long while ago, when i had no idea just how "everywhere" they were going to be; i also was eager to own one of each configuration. every one since then has come home because the people getting rid of them were selling everything as a bundle. as in, "if you want these 20-plus games, you gotta buy the system too", which is fine by me as long as the price is low enough (which it invariably is).
and i was being conservative with that "twelve" remark. there's likely to be over twenty lying around between the house and the storage shed. more if i count the X-eye and CDX.
currently my pile of Genesis and Turbografx systems is being rivaled by Dreamcasts of all things. in all honesty, i can't stop buying those. the last one i bought was a dollar -- i just can't turn my back on them!! i've got a stack of six next to me right now, and that's just from this year. why don't people want these things?
oh, and i haven't said, "no more", for the record. if people keep making me buy the system to get the games, this won't ever end.:cry:

and i was being conservative with that "twelve" remark. there's likely to be over twenty lying around between the house and the storage shed. more if i count the X-eye and CDX.
currently my pile of Genesis and Turbografx systems is being rivaled by Dreamcasts of all things. in all honesty, i can't stop buying those. the last one i bought was a dollar -- i just can't turn my back on them!! i've got a stack of six next to me right now, and that's just from this year. why don't people want these things?
oh, and i haven't said, "no more", for the record. if people keep making me buy the system to get the games, this won't ever end.:cry:
lol, There are so many consoles in my room that I have bought to get the games, but how the heck do you find more than one turbo, in my years of garage saliing I have never found one.
So far this week I found
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
SSB:M
Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime
Backyard baseball 2007
Kirby's Air Ride
total $50, more than I wanted to spend but I talked the guy down from $140!!
I have tomorrow off work and it looks lke there should be some good sales, plus I found a new thrift in my town.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the flea market reseller is in the comunity sale a town over!!

I had a few finds today...
23 PS1 games and a game boy game for $4. She said name your price and I said .25 per game, then I CIF $4 for the lot after I picked out what I wanted. Most notable is a near perfect copy of Final Fantasy VII GH. Not bad for 17 cents!
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9962/83315341.th.jpg (http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=83315341.jpg)
I also got a NES four score multitap FACTORY SEALED for $1
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/3608/35714187.th.jpg (http://img44.imageshack.us/my.php?image=35714187.jpg)
The funny thing is...I remember when these went on clearance at TRU, but I didn't buy one at the time. Those were the days before video games were collectible.
I have more finds, but I will have to snap some pics with better light.

Genesis 3 cables don't fit the model 2. Trust me, I've tried :bomb:
The power brick is different, yeah, but the video cord is the same. I took this as some initiative to organize my Sega drawer and found that I have a ton of everything I need. The system seems to work great. :D

One of my best days of the year today and I only hit one yardsale (there was another that I walked all the way down to (like an extra mile), but I didn't see anything except abit of clothes on the porch and it was raining.
Anyway, my loot...
http://i41.tinypic.com/214xy8l.jpg
Phantasy Star II (cart only)
Phantasy Star III (CIB)
Phantasy Star IV (CIB)
Shining Force (box, no manual)
Castlevania Bloodlines (CIB)
Shadow Run (CIB)
Dr. Mario (cart only)
Final Fantasy (cart only)
Athletic World (cart only)
Not Pictured: Power Pad (it's looking pretty haggard and the woman admitted she had no idea if it worked, but offered it for 50 cents, this is why I grabbed Athletic World.)
All the games, especially the NES ones are in excellent condition.
She told me the games were $2 each but she'd make me a deal if I bought a few.
...I ended up getting all of that for $6. I should mention, I don't CIF, she made that offer. I have nothing against CIF, I just don't feel comfortable doing it and a lot of people seem to cut me really good deals for some reason. Maybe because I look a bit bummy, maybe because I'm so skinny and they think I'll pass on food to buy stuff.
Hopefully I'll get back tomorrow as there were a few games I'd considered picking up and she said the prices would be even lower with some stuff for free.

My best find was a huge stack of old playstation underground packs, some still wrapped.

oh, and Sinnbox, congrats on finding those PC games -- don't you just love when you finally trip across that certain something that you've been looking out for? that's how i felt after i finally got my Neo Geo system. granted, i had to pay a non-yard sale amount thru Craigslist, but it was like a wave of satisfaction came over me after i got the thing in my hands at last.

Meh, haven't been to a yard sale in like two months, but had the morning off so I checked craigslist to see if anyone advertised games. Found one advertising Nintendo on up so I ran there quick. Guy had a bunch of shit, but alot of it was sports games and alot of commons I either had or wasn't interested in, but I told him I'd give him a $1 a piece for these:
Black Belt; Sega Master System CIB
Ghostbusters; Sega Master System CIB
Out Run; Sega Master System CIB
Zelda II Adventures of Link NES CIB
Ghosts n' Goblins NES
Ninja Gaiden NES
Exodus Ultima NES
Zoda's Revenge NES
Zelda A Link to the Past SNES
Lethal Enforcers SNES
Nothing spectacular but this was my first outing in quite awhile. I might head out tomorrow too.
And are Sega Master Systems relatively cheap? The dude had one but wanted $20 for it, and I thought that may have been ovepriced. I don't know anything about Sega prices. Lol and I'm too lazy right now to do any research. :)

I drove to a sale in Chester,IL since it advertised Star Wars figures, Comics, and DVD's. Didn't expect a whole lot since the sale had been open for some time.
Hardly any DVD's left. Comics were all graphic novels ($3 each, but nothing great) and the figures were crap. Carded, but still crap.
They did have some cool LOTR busts... but there were priced right. So outside my price range.

Didn't get much this weekend.
Yesterday: Star Wars Ep. 2 DVD $1
Found this at a sale with a bunch of games. I passed on the games since they weren't in very good condition. The DVD was in very good condition.
Today: Iceman cold therapy system $1 and network cable $0.50
Found a cold therapy system for a $1. I've found several of these and managed to sell them for around $60 on ebay. They're rather nice, which is why I kept one of the ones I've found.
I hoping I can find some more good stuff to sell, so I can build a new computer.

There was a sale that advertised games and opened at 7am. I got there at about 6:55, saw an NES and a PS1 with a stack of games. As I got out of the car, some woman that looked like she was in her 50's grabbed all of it, and bought it without even looking at it. I didn't think I had any competition around here, but I guess I was wrong. There was another sale that advertised old sega games at started at 9, so I made sure to get there earlier. I got:
Genesis with power base convertor
SMS Light Phaser
SMS Altered Beast CIB
SMS Rambo: First Blood Part II CIB
SMS Great Golf CIB
SMS Great Baseball CIB
SMS World Grand Prix, game and case
SMS Alex Kidd in Miracle World, game and case
SMS Pro Wrestling, game and case
SMS Hang on and Safari Hunt, game and case
SMS My Hero, game and case
SMS Ghostbusters cart only
SMS Zillion cart only
SMS California Games cart only
SMS Paperboy cary only
GEN Altered Beast CIB
GEN ESWAT, game and case
GEN Ghosts and Goblins cart only
GEN Game Genie with book
total: $20
Okay, I'm retarded for paying that, but it was still worth it to me. All I had on me was 20's since I had just gotten money from the ATM (-1 point for not being prepared), so I offered 20, there was no IAP. (-1 point for not lowballing). When I walked up to the sale, the woman offered us a bookcase for free, (-1 point for not taking the hint that she was just trying to get rid of things). I probably could've gotten it all for $5, I was just excited to actually find some SMS games and a power base convertor which I've been wanting for a while.
anyways, about 20 sales later I found:
N64 Forsaken 64 cart only
N64 Mario Kart 64 cart only
N64 Zelda, Majora's Mask cart only, and the cart has a holographic label, I haven't seen that before
Total: $7
A bit much, but I already have Mario Kart and that's an easy flip
Towards the end of the day I was ready to go home, ran across one more sale on the way and found:
Virtual Boy with manual
Nester's Funky Bowling with manual
3D Tetris with manual
Golf with manual
Mario Tennis with manual
Galactic Pinball with manual
all in a nice carrying case that looks like it was meant for a camcorder
Total: $20
I was really excited to find this. I've been wanting one for a long time, and didn't think I'd ever find one in my area

Went to a flea market type yardsale today and the sellers were mostly overpriced. I saw a gold Zelda cart for NES, but when I asked how much, the guy replied, "We both know what that is" as if it was rare lol. 8 different garage sales today, and only one of them had anything worth mentioning. This guy was selling a GameBoy with 3 games (crap games), GameBoy Color with 2 games (crap games), and a Game Gear with about games. He wanted $20 for each with the system, but I wasn't dying for anything, and I wasn't caring to battle for it. In hind sight, I probably could have gotten the GameGear for $10, but I really don't collect Sega much... mostly NES.
The one find that pissed me off was the second to last sale, which was gaming unrelated. I saw a set of golf clubs in the garage, and I was looking at them, and waggling the 1 Wood to see if it measured to my height. Well, I'm no expert, but it seemed good and it had a complete set of woods (graphite, too!), irons, and even a nice putter. I was about to offer $25 for it (the tag said $35) when the lady goes: "They're already sold to that lady there <pointing at older woman who is helping her elderly husband into the car>, but I'll let you have them if you offer me more than $30."
I told her, "If they've already claimed them, I won't try to steal it from them, I think that's wrong."
"Hey, I don't care, as long as you offer me more than $30."
I was pissed that I was 2 minutes late on a set of golf clubs that I REALLY wanted, but I'm kinda glad I kept my dignity somewhat, despite still being pissed about it.
On a lighter note, I picked up 2 DVDs for $5 at the Flea Market: Raging Bull and Alexander the Great. yay.

Last weekend was a bust due to rain. This week was better.
Hit about 30 sales in around 3 hours
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/5958/1001825.jpg
360 Lot all complete - $30
Started off at $5 a game and offered $30 for all (not CIF). The husband accepted, just then the wife came out and asked
him how much and he said $30. Well she started pitching a hissy fit saying their $5 each and I could come back later, if
they did'nt sell I could have them for $30. I was like he said $30 and then the guy says "she's got the final word" I kinda
shook my head in disbelief and shot the guy the you f*cking wimp look and it must of worked cause he manned up and told
the wife to take the $30. I might of even paid the $5 each cause those games will easily flip, but in my book if you say yes
to a deal ---- DEAL DONE!

More 360 games - Total $3
This sale had a bunch of xbox games mostly sports and these 3 360 games.Since these were the only games of interest
I pulled them out and asked the lady if she would take $1 each which she accepted. I also asked about older games and
she said she has a big tub of N64 games which she went to look for but could not find. I left my number. hopefully I get a call

PS2 guitar heroes - Total $3
This sale had a beat down PS2 and driver 1 and 2 ps1 games and the guitar heroe stuff. I asked for games and the kid
pointed to the box with the stuff in it. He said $15 for everything but the PS2 was'nt working right. I picked up the guitar
and games and CIF'd $3 which he took. In hindsight I probably should of offered him $8 or so for everything seeing as how
there were 2 controllers and 2 memory cards. - Oh well!
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/525/1001827u.jpg
Gamecube no wires or controllers + 2 memory cards & THAW w/ several scratchs - Total $1
This sale had a ton of total garbage. I was really only interested in the memory cards and asked the lady how much for
the gamecube stuff. She came back with make an offer I just want to get rid of it, so I offered a $1and she took it

Today's finds were so epic that I actually decided to take a picture.
Ok lets get to it. I went to this church sale where they were charging 5$ per bag for anything you could fit in the bag. The bag was a huge garbage bag. I ran into a pile of genesis games mixed in with the books. So I threw them all into the bag. The highlights are Shining Force II and Sword of Vermilion. Games are complete with manuals. Not all games have manuals but only a couple are missing them, these are for the more insignificant games. There are 10 other games in addition to the 2 I just mentioned. One is a PC game that I know nothing about but it was there so I took it. As usual I also threw more stuff into the bag so I really got my money's worth out of this sale.
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4296/p1020213x.th.jpg (http://img199.imageshack.us/i/p1020213x.jpg/)
I am really, really surprised that I got these games. They managed to sit there until I got to the sale around 1pm. It is exceedingly rare to find good games in this area, most people buy sports and movie games en masse. I guess the clientele of the sale really did not want them (mostly older women shopping for clothing and household goods).
Shining force II is in VERY good condition and the box only has slight marks. I opened it to clean it and judging by the contacts and the save files on the cartridge (level 1) it was played once then tossed aside. This game is in perfect condition other than slight damage to the box and a slightly wrinkled manual.
Lesser finds from earlier in the day.
Silicon USB keyboard, 50 cents. Hooked it up to my Wii and works perfectly.
2 Genesis games for FREE. Lady said they were in the free box so just take them. Games are terminator 2 arcade and mario lemiux hockey. Cart only. These are in the picture above.
PSP game Xiaolin showdown 3$ complete.
Ran into a ton of games today, most were overpriced and not worth buying and were crap titles. Saw an older DS and a GBA SP together for 40$, thought this was a good price but didn't bite because I have enough of these systems.

I left my number. hopefully I get a call
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/1579/1001828v.jpg

Misc finds
Flight DVD's - $1
Stewie - $1
Fantasia - $1
Mario All Stars complete - $2
PS1 Alien Trilogy - .50
Risky Buisiness - .50
Oddworld Guide - $1
Awesome finds, especially the first 360 game lot and the guitar hero lot, and Super Mario All Stars complete for $2; that's a steal. Also is the Oddworld guide worth anything value wise? It seems like one of those guides that might be worth some money, but I'm not sure.

I seem to remember reading a review in probably Gamepro back when it was released. I am confident it's crap, but a cool find IMO.

Hit 26 planned yard sales today. And a bunch we found along the way. Much better luck finding games compared to previous weeks.
First hit got Rainbow Six 2 for PS3 for $5 CIF after they asked $20
$5 CIF at another stop got me:
Van Halen 5150 cassette (now I have music for my car without a CD!)
Xbox Van Helsing
Xbox Dark Angel
Xbox Outlaw Volleyball
Xbox Fight Club
Xbox Crimson Skies (the only game worth it)
Xbox Constantine
Xbox Bloodrayne
Next stop with games $5 CIF for a mountain of PC games, Soul Calibur IV 360, Soul Calibur IV Guide, FF XII LE Guide , Street Fighter IV guide. Dude countered with $20 but wore down to $8.
Another stop had a bunch of early 360 games like Assassin's Creed, Graw 2, and Sport Games. Tried $5 CIF. No way. Lady was one of those, I payed $60 for my snotty kid and he played this once, need to get my money back wahhhh. I wasn't forking over more than $10 so passed.
Got Resident Evil Apocalypse UMD at another sale for $1. Didn't even try any lower as I had no change. Cooking Mama DS for $2 around the corner.
Had another annoying stop. Hit a mom gardening with a yard sale on the driveway. Had a bunch of Xbox games and a Xbox. Xbox was marked $40, games $4 each. I tried $15 CIF for the Xbox. No. My son researched this and they sell online for $40 everyday. Blah blah blah. It was nearly 11:30 lady you are not gonna sell this, take my money please. Nope.
Finally hit a family moving to Japan. Had about a stack of 15 Gamecube games. Tried to CIF for $5 for all. Guy said, I sold thirty games already this morning at $5 each, 3 for $10. So I took the best 3 left: Starfox Assault, Pikmin, Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventures for $8 after haggling. He had some other decent stuff, but I didn't feel like arguing too much.
Overall it was a pretty good day for finding games. Too bad there was no retro stuff, and those two ladys wouldn't budge at all.

then I hit up the local pawn and got COD:WAW(Wii)and LBP(PS3) I offered $25 and he let me have them for $30.

Its good man. Its one of those games that makes you want to see what happens next, not because its unpredictable, but because of the compelling story and awesome game play. I bought the game at EB games because it was only like $4 used, and I ended up really liking it.

I like this game too...Actually Crimson Skies and Halo are the only games I have played on a xbox console. I was visiting a friend for 2 weeks and I couldn't go without playing games. I felt dirty when I picked up the controller, but crimson skies was worth it.
On topic:
I only hit a few sales, but I picked up a game gear with 5 games for $5.
Super Mario 64 for .50
I also picked up a gameboy advance (pink) with 20 (GB,GBC,GBA) games for $7.

Yesterday was a bust due to getting to a big one just as they were packing up.
Picked up a CD for me, one for my mom as a surprise gift, and a copy of MoH: Allied Assault for PC for $5 total. The original Xbox games and a few old sports 360 games were $5 each, so I didn't bother.
Back out today since the weather seems nice. :)

I went to a flea market today just for kicks and most of the stuff was overpriced. Some old lady wanted $30 for Quake 4 for PC(regular edition, not even LE) and $20 for Battlefield 2: Special Forces.
There was a whole thing of different era games with PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360, GC, NES, SNES, N64, et cetera but they were either overpriced or well priced.(FFIII for PS1 was $15)

Went to 24 yardsales today (Friday) and got the SNES pretty late in the day when I asked about games and it was brought out. This is pretty much the same shit different day as with all of the NES stuff this year I really couldn't get it dirt cheap low (I could only do more so a decent/good/very good price on craigslist type deal). I looked it over offered $10 and that wasen't going to happen they were thinking $30, CIFed $20 not going to break'em. I almost passed after $20 not going but decided to do a little better since I found next to nothing all day after 2ish hours out and it did come with some good games.

Found this out at one of the first sales today (Saturday). No price offered $2 the guy said that the games (or each game) were worth more then that and seemed surprised at my offer. He said $10 which I declined mentioning that it was missing the RF Adaptor and thanked him, he then said how about $5 which I took as I wanted a complete Kid Chameleon (which was the only game I ever bothered to check). When I got home I didn't mind the Eternal Champions manual as I needed it and I'm sure I have a Mortal Kombat orphan somewhere. I try to avoid bringing home Genesis systems but then something like this happens.

Asked about games at this sale and they didn't have any but then the one lady said she did actually have a NES that somebody hasen't played in two years so she wanted it gone even though they couldn't get a hold of this mystery person on the phone. I looked it over and offered $5 which was taken. First sale this year after who knows how many in which somebody had anything old that was Nintendo related that they wanted to be rid of and didn't have some certain price in mind of what it was worth that they were aiming to get at a yardsale. This is also the first time I've gotten Castlevania II & 1942 cheap in the wild.

Super Mario Bros. 3
$3
I found this stuff at an Estate type yardsale. NES controllers marked $1 each everything else marked .50 each. Would have been $7 altogether offered $3 which was easily taken. The NES stuff is as dirty as could be, I see some green on the one game's contacts and who knows if all of them will work.

Super Mario Land (Japanese) - $1
All of these portable games came from the same sale late in the day at almost noon. Super Mario Land is I'm pretty sure the first Japanese game I've ever found around here at a yardsale.
The Game Gear games were actually all rubberbanded together and a buck was the asking price (dreck yes but priced right and I would have been very happy with both of the Columns games alone for a buck). Guy said I just missed a "Nintendo" (which I'm guessing was an NES) with about 15 games for $15 when I asked about (more) games. SML was in a GBA SP bundle that belonged to another family member with about 6 GBA loose carts, SML & a GBC game marked $50. Said $2 for SML and took a buck for it.
The funny part about this sale was the GBA bundle for $50 with almost 10 games yet sombody else in the family had a GBA with 3 games marked $5.

This was the first and last sale of the day for me. On Friday the lady mentioned having a N64 & Genesis that she would bring down and this sale was right in town and only a few blocks away so I made it my first stop on Saturday. Both systems with a few games were marked $40 with only a few games each and nothing special with the Genesis. I asked about doing better on the SNES then offered $10 and the lady politely said she'd do $25. I asked about doing better later if it didn't sell and the lady said she would.
I got home about 12:30 and saw that the sale ended at noon but drove by shortly after one and they were still packing up. The SNES was now marked $25 and I got it for $15. Yoshi's Cookies has been a mild want and this is the first time I've found either of the Tetris games in the wild. I should (hopefully) be driving by this house tonight or tomarrow for the missing RF Adaptor that they lady mentioned having at home that she would bring down and hang on the mailbox in a bag.
Edit - I stopped by this Morning (Sunday) and in the bag was the RF Adaptor for the Genesis and as a bonus Zelda:LTTP (cart only)
Non Find BS
I was out for about 8 hours this week and I would guess that I hit about 45-50 yardsales total.
The second sale I went to today was one I was at on Friday where the guy said he had some 2600 games in the attic and asked me to come back tomarrow. When I showed up he didn't dig them out but said to his wife/girlfriend "this is the guy that was interested in the 2600 games do you mind if I go in and get them" as if to ask if she would be ok running the sale solo, she said ok and he asked me if I minded hanging out for a bit to which I said sure. He went in and about 5-10 minutes later emerged with a big box which had about 25-30 games all or mostly complete pretty much all common. I look it over see some decent games and a few I would be happy to have complete or boxed (Frogger, Barnstorming, Adventure) and offered him $5 he counters with $10 and I agree.
I put the box in my car and just as I'm getting in I hear the guy come running up to me asking me to wait. My instincts were that he's probably going to give me a game or two that maybe he dropped when bringing everything out but instead he says his wife though he was just going to sell a few games or something like that and that they were his step father's games as if he's going to be in hot water for selling them to me. I went a head and let the guy have the games back and he's apologizing to me and took my number incase they decide to sell them or something along those lines.
This is an odd situation and felt like the right thing to do even though I didn't really want to obviously and I could have easily said no I don't want to and drive off since I already paid the guy and it was a done deal. I don't think the guy decided to go back on it that fast I really do think it was his wife's idea be it because it was her's dad's stuff or probably more so that she was worried that her husband/boyfriend just sold some old games for what might be pennies on the dollar (remember that quote where she should have stopped the guy if she didn't want the games gone for any reason). The guy was really nice and seemed joe cool about the whole thing and getting the games out of the attic.
This would have been my favorite find of the day being boxed/complete games and my 2600 collection having more gaps in it then say my NES or SNES collection. I've been doing good with the 2600 stuff (this should count as my 4th week in a row finding 2600 stuff) which is surprising figuring that I've only found 2600 stuff 3 times yardsaling (last year, the year before when I found a few games at a sale and my first 2600 with 30 some games back around 1996 that I got late in the day at a church sale in my town for $15 IAP).
Other then this everything was pretty much same shit different day. People had some sort of games they never use but it's not their home so it not handy etc, etc, etc.
I had a lady today that had a Nintendo or something like that but didn't want to go in and get it. It's like these people rather sit outside with the dreck that's barely selling and don't want to leave it unguarded or maybe lose a sale selling some VHS tapes for .25-.50 or some crap like that if they are in the house for a few minutes.
I actually get this fairly often were people say they have something but don't offer to get it and I usually respond with something like "is it buried somewhere in the attic/basement and you don't know where it is" to which they usually agree with but I can't help but think that it's partly that these people will tell me they have something but they don't really want to just bring it out for sale for fear that they might be undercutting themselves on something they don't know a ball park value on.

it's very unlikely that there'll be many sales, compared to the average weekend anyway. 'round these parts, holidays are just that, and people generally don't like to hold sales when they can/should be at the beach, or out having a BBQ, etc...
if you can't get out that day, don't feel too bad -- you're not likely to have missed anything.

my pile of 360 controllers is beginning to rival my Dreamcast collection now. at this point, people are almost literally giving them away -- and i thought the black one was cheap at three bucks! the PS2, GC, and white 360 controllers each came from separate sales. the GC and 360 ones were a dollar to start; the seller with the PS2 controller was asking 2, but went down to $1 when asked.
i have to say, my favorite find was the Jaguar. several years back i lost my mind and sold off a large portion of my personal collection, including many, many rare systems and games. while not necessarily highly sought-after, i had a very impressive Atari Jaguar collection, with two systems (one of them new and boxed), and many sealed games. here we are years later, and while i found the odd game or two on occasion, i never did find another system "in the wild". this past Saturday, i was very pleased to see this system with a handful of games. the seller wanted (oddly enough) $7 for everything, but settled for $5 when i asked. of course, this paltry bundle absolutely pales in comparison to what i used to own, but it was still a fun and rare find!

but thanks! and yes, Ikaruga was a rad find as well. it's in my top 5 shooters of all time, easily, and i was definitely excited to pick it up at this price. my last copy i found was 8 or 10 dollars, if i recall (though that was like 2 years ago, i think).

Im about to give up on yard sales alltogether. I seriously don't get it....it looks like everyone on here is finding insane stuff like Jaguars, TG-16 games, huge lots of NES games, etc....every weekend. I've been going to at LEAST 40 sales per weekend for the past 3 years and have literally found nothing. Well not really, the few times I find anything its always common stuff like a busted up NES with mario/duck hunt for some insane price like $100 dollars because "its collectable, it goes for twice that on ebay". I'd say 99% of the yard sales I see are nothing but baby toys/clothes. I seriously don't understand what I'm doing wrong (yes I always ask for games at every sale), it seems like I'm the only one here who consistantly never finds anything. With all the time and money I've spent on gas alone, I could have just bought the games I really want on ebay for their inflated prices! I mean whats the point anyway when the one time I DO find something, they refuse to take anything lower than whatever the highest price on ebay is...I might as well just use ebay then!

I can understand how you feel. I rarely find stuff and never in the quantities that other people in this thread seem to get. I guess that my area just isn't that good for video games combined with local competition. At times, I do want to give and I will likely have to once I get a job, but for now, I don't give up. I've had try spells and then I find something like my Laseractive or my complete and boxed JVC X'Eye. That's why I keep on going and I've been finding other non game related stuff to sell on ebay.

well, i pulled up to a sale being run by two guys in their 40s. right away, i see the controller sitting on a table alongside a Monster-brand a/v cable, and i ask how much. the guy says, "a buck" right away. of course, my very next question is, "do you have the system, or any games?", to which he answers "well, i had some games, but they got so scratched up i threw 'em out. i don't know where the Xbox is." (???)
he told me the video cable was five dollars, but went down to $3 when i set it down. i already have several, and i rarely pay more than a buck for them, so i left that behind. as i was leaving, he did bring out the power brick but he wanted $8 for it, so i passed on that as well.
for every five people that want some ridiculously high price, it seems there are always one or two that seem beyond clueless in the opposite direction, and sell stuff for next to nothing.
anyway, thanks!

i just glanced online; they run about 20 bucks shipped if you're patient, it seems. i've got about 3-4 spares as it is, along with about the same amount of vga cables and component cables.

Well I do get some good stuff, as posted in this thread however I don't get stuff in the quantities that other people get it. But I buy other things at yard sales too, and I consider it "shopping", just at prices that I can actually afford! The other stuff usually makes up for what I don't find in the games department.
You will get the clueless people (someone had to donate that copy of shining force I picked up last weekend!), people dumping collections from children who have grown up and moved out then people who want an arm and a leg for every single item. Sometimes people will give you games and game stuff for free, its happened to me a few times already because its old and they don't want it.
The selection of really old games in this area (NES and earlier) is really dry, people are dumping PSX systems and Gamecube systems en masse here though. Genesis stuff is very common. Every time I run into modern games they are the worst of the worst titles and they usually want 5$ and up for them.

GC Ikaruga, $2
Now you can sell me back the copy I sold you :D
I haven't found anything good video game related this year. I did find a couple of star wars lego sets (Tie Interceptor and Clone Turbo Tank) marked $5 and $15, I CIF'ed $17 for both. I probably could've gotten away with more, but the prices on the Turbo Tank are pretty high on fleabay. Unfortunately, some of the minifigs were missing even though the kid said it was complete.
edit: wrong prices
