got a call today on my cell from a guy on craigslist who said he seen me post video game ads before, says he has a super nes with 15 games. I asked him what games they were and one of the games turned out to be secret of mana, he wants $30 for everything, but he lives almost 35 miles away on the other side of the state, if he wasn't so far i'd buy it in a heartbeat :(

35 miles away only? I really don't think that's too far, but then again I live in LA where everything is spread out so much. It's 35 miles just to get across LA County. I'd say it sounds like a good deal, depending on the games in the bundle.

Im about to give up on yard sales alltogether. I seriously don't get it....it looks like everyone on here is finding insane stuff like Jaguars, TG-16 games, huge lots of NES games, etc....every weekend. I've been going to at LEAST 40 sales per weekend for the past 3 years and have literally found nothing. Well not really, the few times I find anything its always common stuff like a busted up NES with mario/duck hunt for some insane price like $100 dollars because "its collectable, it goes for twice that on ebay". I'd say 99% of the yard sales I see are nothing but baby toys/clothes. I seriously don't understand what I'm doing wrong (yes I always ask for games at every sale), it seems like I'm the only one here who consistantly never finds anything. With all the time and money I've spent on gas alone, I could have just bought the games I really want on ebay for their inflated prices! I mean whats the point anyway when the one time I DO find something, they refuse to take anything lower than whatever the highest price on ebay is...I might as well just use ebay then!

While I appear to find more stuff than you, I agree that my finds are below average. I'd guess that I go to 20-30 sales to find one with ANY videogames. And then it is junk or overpriced. I do pick up a cart here or there.

I keep going because I look for other things as well but if I were only interested in VGs, I'd stay home and play them :-)

I think too many people either realize they have value or want to keep them for themselves. About 4 years ago I used to see NES systems all over the place (resale shops and rummage sales). I think I have only seen one (out in the wild) over the course of this past year.

There has to be a saturation point of people willing to part with their old school video games. I mean how many people still have nes' around that they don't care about?

Sure there is always the parents cleaning the basement or the person that finally changes their mind, but I would think after 17 years of the system being outdated, that it would be slowing down dramatically.

That and ebay's popularity in society.

I see a ton of last gen stuff, but hardly anything earlier than ps1/n64

It's a slow weekend around here for Yard Sales being the 4th of July weekend. I hit 2 this morning.

At the first I found:
- Castlevania SOTN (Black Label)
- Resident Evil 3
- SNES system with 3 crap games
The IAP was $20 for the system and $2.50 each for the games. I CIF'd $10 for the system while holding the 2 PS games, which was accepted. I then pulled out 2 singles and asked if they would accept a buck each on the PS games, which was also accepted.

The second I found was on Craigslist and was about 15 minutes from my house. It was a thurs/fri sale and had NES games listed. When I got there I asked if they had any NES games left, and she said she sold all of them yesterday. She said there were about 40 boxed. The prices were high, but I managed to find.
- NES Max controller factory sealed $8
- Rocky Anthology DVD Box Set $7
- 15 CD's marked 3 for $5 CIF'd $15 for all. It was some good stuff including 3 Pumpkins, 3 Soundgarden, 3 Megadeth, 2 GnR, Green Day, ect.. The lot will sell for about $40 on SecondSpin after ripping what I want.

Didn't find any game deals today, but I didn't sleep at all, so I was up for a bout 30 hours by the time I was done, so I didn't care. I did manage to score Space Ghost Coast to Coast season 1, Smashing Pumpkins - Viewphoria DVD, and an acoustic guitar for $20. I overpaid, but I don't really care, this guitar rocks.

I have been screwed by a couple of those advertising the past few weeks. "HUGE SALE, BIGGEST YOU WILL SEE THIS YEAR!" It is something like 4 tables, 3 of them baby clothes and the rest rusted out crap.

I was out on Thursday and Friday, no luck. I wasn't about to go out today (plans for later), but my mom needed gas so I went along. I saw a single one on the way out, so I just walked home to stop off.

I ended up picking up a Mad Katz Wireless XBox controller complete w/ memory card for $5, along with a Megaman Battlechip of MiniBoomer, that looks to be useless. Wasn't sure what it was when I picked it up, apparently it's for some Mattel game.

I passed on a cart only copy of WrestleMania 2000 for the 64. I love those THQ wrestling games, but I already bought a complete copy for $3 a year or two ago.

I agree to a point. System wise though, I still tend to see as more NES's than SNES's around here. (Although I'm really thinking SNES wasn't that big here, as I see a TON of Genesis games and a few more systems.). I seldom see any PS2's either and the few I do are overpriced ($75-ish) and it's the same old story (they bought a 360 and are selling the system to buy another game or two)

stopped at a few this morning after work.

at one, a guy had 2 xbox systems with hookups and 2 controllers and 2 remotes, 2 dreamcast systems with hookups with 3 controllers and 2 of those vmus. he wanted $40 for the lot. i was thinking holy shit. however, i only had sufficient funds for one dreamcast (or so i thought), so i ask how much for one dreamcast with 2 controllers. he says $20. i'm sorry, what? you're selling 2 xboxs, 2 dreamcasts, both with controllers and hookups for $40, but only one dreamcast with controllers for half of that? i CIF'd $11, and he didn't go for it. so i left.

if my paycheck had been $100 more yesterday, this was a deal when he said $40 for the lot, but unfortunately, i didn't have enough and i need to eat.

Under those circumstances, I don't blame you but if you had bought the lot...most likely a simple craigslist ad would net you at least $20-$25 per system and you would have your dreamcast plus $20...just a thought...but I would try to test the systems at his home or ask him to commit (trust...I know lol) for a proportionate refund for any nonworking system..all in all a couple hours worth of extra work to be up a system plus $20 but imo worth it...
oh, and keep in mind the systems will sell better if you ad a game (universal title) and charge $25

Went to 9 sales total this weekend. Offered .75 for these 3 books lady said a buck and wouldn't go lower saying she was asking .50 each. I just noticed the Nintendo Power Advance retailed for $14.99 like a guide!

Yeah genesis is insanely popular here, I think the advertising got to everyone, oh we have to be cool lets get a genesis, we don't want that kiddie Nintendo. I see Genesis all the time but maybe 1 SNES every 2 years. I live in an urban area where everyone has to have everything that is "in" so that explains it.

I think the ebay bubble isn't what it used to be, its definitely burst around here. 7 years ago everyone was like OMG I will get rich on ebay but since it hasn't happened they just gave up and don't care anymore. Many people talk about ebay but few actually bother selling things on it, its just too much work for some people. People around here aren't computer savvy. The items that I have gotten that have sold well on ebay are things that you would never expect to sell well on ebay.

When someone says its a collectible and its worth money on ebay that is a clue that it's probably NOT a collectible and that its a worthless item they are trying to get rid of. This is what I have learned after hearing about ebay at a yard sale and then going home to check the value of the item in question and find it selling for no more than 5$...

You can't sell anything over 20$ here, if even that at a yard sale. People go out with pocket change and expect prices within the 10 cent to 5 dollar range for most items, anything larger than 20$ has a very, very slim chance of selling. People don't carry around enough cash to pay for the 100-200 items and up that everyone here is selling.

Not a great deal, but I ended up getting The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition (complete, mint) for $10

The lady was selling a bin of games (mostly useless ones) for $10 each. I wanted Zelda and Final Fantasy XII, so I offered $10 for both, but she denied. I then countered back with how about $15 for both? She denied that too. She told me $18 for both is the lowest she will go, so I just took Zelda and left.

I think it all depends on the area, most of the people around here save from 2 major resellers buy-play-sell, I have been to alot of sales this year where people have a 2 week old 360 game and a NES game and both are marked the same price, usualy round $4. I think that in my part of the country there are enough resell shops that some people treat old games just like new ones, only they are stupid enough to pay market price then sell them at a garage sale then repurchase at the resellers shop downtown. He has told me that alot of the people that he buys games from at garage sales come in and grab the same game a few months later. I'm not sure what these people are thinking? I quick $.50???

You're obviously not hardcore.

I stopped off at one before work and picked up a Mad Catz PSone screen with a car kit and a bunch of unopened blank cassette tapes (for four-track recording) for five bucks. The guy said it was working fine, but I just tested it, and the vertical hold is messed up. I did test it on an original model PS1, though, maybe the PSone is different, I don't know. I don't own one.

I'm starting to think that "Huge" is required on all rummage sale signs. But most sales aren't even close to huge . . . that's OK, I seem to do best at the small sale where I find a gem in a box of crap under a table.

The people are either desperate for cash for various reasons or they decided they wanted to finish a game they didn't play, or perhaps a combination of both of those. These people would have more money if they didn't waste all of it (obviously). But if its helping you get decent deals then I would not complain. I've decided not to try to understand why people do some of things they do, it just boggles the mind way too much.

Most if not all probably at least 95% of games (current and last gen) that are bought here are bought at Gamestop and have the respective GS stickers plastered all over them. If its not sold at Gamestop or if gamestop doesn't take it for trade then its basically non existent. I should use that as a bargaining point, its so old Gamestop doesn't even sell it!

Thats the bargaining tool that I usually use if they try to get smart with me and tell me that gamestop will take it and pay much more for it than I'm offering. However the problem with the people in my area is that they think they could make alot of money off of anything, like selling a $20 dollar wal-mart brand dvd player for $50 and expecting that everyone will fight over it. It's ridiculous.

Not much yesterday as I only stopped at 2 local sales. First sale had some PS2 games at $5 each. Their were three I was interested in that I tried to CIF 10 for and the maybe 30 something guy angrily says "Now their $10 a piece". I told him "You don't have to be a dick about it, you could of just said no" then I turned and walked away as he was shouting at me " You better go you f*cking asshole" I turned and grabbed my crotch and got into my car and drove away. Usually I just ignore and leave but this guy was considerably nasty so I could'nt help but comment.

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/2111/1001830w.jpg

Second sale had a PS1 and about 10 games these 2 were the cream of the crop. The FFVII is absolutely mint best condition of just about any PS1 game I've ever found. Any way everything at the sale that had a price was really cheap. The system and the games were not marked so I tried to CIF $10 to the lady. She was like Oh no! those games are collectible - their $5 each and $40 for the system, you could have the whole lot for $75. I told her politely that her prices were a little high and that PS1's and games are pretty common. I told her that I'd give here $5 for 2 and she said OK.

Sales this weekend were pretty slim because of the holiday but I did make a few good catches. First sale was pretty disappointing, they listed 3 N64s, 3 Genesis', and a PS2 but it all apparently got wet and I didn't want to risk it. Scores below!

Sale 1: 8 PS1 games, wanted $3 each, CIF'd $10 for them all and was taken.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/oper8r00/IMG_0155.jpg

Score 2: 20 PS2s games, mostly sports titles that I am going to bundle with an old playstation 2 im selling. Was asking $1 each, went ahead and took it at that price.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/oper8r00/IMG_0152.jpg

Score 3: A couple very overpriced PS2/3 sports games. However, I bought a PS2 multitap and 3 official memory cards, $.50 for it all.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/oper8r00/IMG_0138.jpg

Score 4: On my way home I drove past a sale that looked like nothing but some teen girl stuff. But I asked as usual for old game stuff and the girl there said she had a nintendo she didn't with a couple games. Asked what I would pay and I offered $20. She came out with below.

Holy shit. A PS3 for $200, and at a yardsale? Someone must've really wanted to get rid of that thing. To the guy who scored it, you said there were hook-ups; did it come with an HDMI cable?

I already have a PS3, but even I would've bit on another at that price. Why $190 though? That seems like an odd figure.

I have seen items in upwards of $600 here, I always wonder how your supposed to pay for them, most people don't walk around with more than 20$ in their pocket around here, so its extremely unlikely that someone is going to pay $600 for something no matter what it is at a yard sale. I don't know who would buy a TV for that amount of money from a yard sale either, and I have seen many TV's selling for $400 and upwards, I mean you don't really know if it has any problems or not, or if it will develop some soon after buying. Taking a check and then letting the person haul the item off is not safe for obvious reasons. Heck you even run the risk of someone paying with counterfeit bills if your asking a large amount of money for something.

I have gone to yard sales in the bad sections around here, its hit or miss like everywhere else, its either really cheap, or they want a ton of money for their stuff because they are poor. The thing is there really aren't that many sales in those parts of town here because everyone sleeps during the day and stays awake during the night.

$190 was about all I had on me. It didn't have an HDMI cable, however, I had the foresight to buy a couple for cheap after I got my LCD tv and had already gotten a 360 with a HDMI connection. I knew that I'd want to hookup my PS3 via HDMI and had the cable ready once I got the PS3 home.

Where do you guys find garage sale posts? I typically look on craigslist and then drive around my town for a bit looking for signs. I feel like I'm missing something though because I don't think I've ever seen more than 8-10 in a day, let alone the 45+ some of you guys go to.

Craigslist and Newspaper classifieds is where I get my info. I like using the newspaper classifieds, since my newspaper has a large map with all the garage sales of that week.

I told her that I'd give here $5 for 2 and she said OK.

if i remeber correctly you in nj. that just reminds me of up there so much, still lmao at your comeback.

allyourblood, how do you keep finding all this great stuff? Especially the music equipment. All I've ever found music wise was a crappy midi controller for $50 and a Danelectro guitar for $75 that I quickly snatched up. The guy had a Gibson Goth Les Paul for $500, too rich for my blood.

I love it so much. Most of the Disney/Capcom games from that era were good. I wrote a review of it on my old 1up blog that's since been deleted. The fanfare that plays when you pick up an item needs to be my ringtone.

honestly, music stuff -- guitar stuff in particular -- comes up quite often, but usually not at the price i'm willing to pay. as you can see, that DOD is missing a knob cap, and is fairly worn, which helped when i was haggling the price down. most single pedals i see are being sold for $25-75 dollars (barf!). basically, i just wait until a sale comes along with a fair price. i generally pass on guitars because i don't know what they're all worth; unless of course one comes along for a super-low price that i can't resist. i usually turn down amps for the same reason, plus they take up a ton of space and i've got all i need right now.

my advice would be for you to explore the areas in your city that you might not usually frequent, especially the low-income parts. there seems to be a common misconception that the poorer parts of town don't have any of the good stuff, and this, in my experience anyway, is patently untrue. around here, people in low income areas appear to buy fancy stuff on credit ('cause everyone likes the "good stuff", right?), get bored of it just like anyone does, and sell it fast at a huge loss, likley for immediate necessities. this is in contrast to the ritzier parts of town, where folks tend to sell at a premium, which i suppose is because they don't need the money as quickly and are expecting to put the money toward similar items (movies, games, etc.).

good luck!!

on a side note, lately i'm seeing a lot of people in this thread mocking the idea of folks selling $200+ items at their yard sale. you might think most people yard-saling only carry 20-40 bucks in their wallet because you do, but the savvy buyers (the ones that get there before you and snatch up the good stuff) are serious about this "hobby" of ours, and they carry cash, plenty of it, and in proper denominations. personally, i tend to carry about $200 on me at the start of the day and it has paid off in dividends over the years; to anyone who has ever posted saying, "i wanted to buy them all, but i only had $6 cash left on me", you know what i'm talking about. further, an ATM is rarely more than 10 minutes away; if you see a fantastic item, ask them to put it back in the house and that you'll be back in ten minutes with the necessary funds (they won't always do it, but most folks will). i commonly, and i mean weekly, see people selling furniture, electronics, video game consoles/collections, cars, boats, jet skis, music equipment and more in the $500-$1500 range, and a great many of these purchases are completed with cash up-front. it happens.

Well, I don't hit enough sales to spend more than $50 per weekend, so I carry about $50 sometimes a little more. There aren't 40+ sales here every weekend and you can only do so much in the limited span of time you have to yard sale before the sales start packing everything up for the day (believe me some days I am still going at 3pm-4pm and a lot of sales are still out). This would vary with the area you live in. I will spend money when the price is right though. I have gone out early and the only thing that happened is that the people weren't ready and it made them mad (I have mentioned it before, my area doesn't seem to wake up before 10-11am on Saturdays). I didn't find more stuff or better prices, since some people were not fully set up I saw less stuff than I usually see.

the problem is that someday you are going to think why the heck did i only bring $50, I admit that 90% of the time I wont spend more than $50, but there have been days when my competition is not out, or citywides where I am more than happy I had a couple hundred on me. I have never seen anyone's eyes light up like the time if CIF'd a hundred dollars at a guy, He had 2 long tables full of games from NES to 360 he had individual tags on all of them totaling almost $1000, I offered him $80 and he declined then i offered him $100 and he declined so I whipped out 5 20's, set them on the table then started to put them back in my pocket...he gave in, lol.

To be fair these are finds from the last two weekends.

I've found 2 colored N64. They were oddly both 5 bucks each and have no cords. Sell for a good amount on ebay though so I'm willing to pay it.

Yeah this is my fourth different variant yard sale N64, Now I have:

Green N64 CIB
Orange N64 CIB
Pokemon N64 CIB
Blue N64 Console/Controller Only

I once saw a smoky clear one for $30 with the most beat up box I'd ever seem but I thought it was too much, now I regret not buying it.

FOnewearl

@smaaug I wouldn't say $10 is too much for a Complete GameBoy, I paid $15 for one with a CIB Battery thing and Revenge of the Gator complete a few years ago at the flea market and it's the only time I've seen one complete over the last five years in the wild. It only looks expensive compared to some of the steal deals we've seen over the last few years in this thread which have set the bar rather high (or should I say low :D) for what is considered a can't be beat yardsale price.

Also I should mention that while it's obviously YMMV as always with prices and what you'll see at yardsales I personally do better with finding old games not selling (and even dirt cheap sometimes) in the run down parts of town as around here most people yardsaling seem to think better area = better stuff. The one run down area I was at a few weekends ago I would be the only person at most of the sales while in the nicer areas yardsales get all sorts of people showing up about an hour early (maybe even earlier!) and steady tracffic till about noon after the morning rush.

The one Housing Community just outside of town which is a really nice upper/middle class type deal will have a large community wide sale every year in May and it pulls in tons of people and was about as busy as a county fair when I went to it last year, I will usually avoid these types of community deals especially if it's one I've been to at least once and skipped it this year instead finding NES & SNES stuff in a run down area that morning including Earthbound for an IAP of a buck shortly after 8 that morning. I will probably never go back actually between all of the people that could beat me to any deals of interest to me and the fact that it'll be mostly the same houses year after year selling. This was the same area where I offered $3 for a 2600 with 2-3 games and the people were pretty much disgusted with my offered and countered with something like $10, this after mom thanked me for buying lemonade from her kid's stand lol

I personally think it's best to get out and see what you can expect on an average day in different areas around you but if it's anything like my area it'll be the people in the best & nicer middle class areas (for a lack of a better term) that could price stuff too high for a yardsale probably because they just don't understand how worthless certain old items are, especially at a yardsale in which they have 1-2 days to get rid of the stuff.

2 boring ass examples of this

1) I saw a decent sized tube TV from about the mid 90s about a month ago probably about 30 inches with a price of $80 on it! Nice suburban area this made me wonder did they really thing that's a reasonable price for a yardsale or where they just hoping to get lucky fishing for a fool. Way overpriced stereo beside this TV at this sale also which I can't remember the price of.

2) VCRs in general, I have seen them sitting around for $1-3 but I'll still see them at $10 or close to sometimes always in the nicer parts of town, I even saw one that was marked $20 this year once again in a nicer area.

With that said I always worry more about these people guessing at what old video games should be worth at their yardsale then somebody that just wants to get rid of stuff they are putting out.

My bad, funny typo I guess :D, I could probably be here fixing typos all day on that post

Seeing your post AYB actually reminds me of something you mentioned the other day. You said that in your area that many people in your area will go yardsaling with a decent amount of money to be ready to make a big buy if they have to. I'm sure that certain people are ready to do so in my area also (probably mostly for things like furniture be it for themselves or resale) but I've noticed that old systems with games around here tend to not sell usually if priced too high even if it's clearly a much better deal then say what you would expect to pay online.

There just isn't much of a market for old video games in my area so you really realistically shouldn't expect get nearly what say Suikoden II sells for online locally around here. The one newer shop downtown has Earthbound (cart only with label damage) for $85 and this guy actually thinking that somebody is going to come in off the street and pay that is a joke.

I though about how funny it would be to put Panzer Dragoon Saga out for sale at a yardsale for $50 considering how bad it would look but how it would be a good deal compared to what it goes for online.

... but I've noticed that old systems with games around here tend to not sell usually if priced too high even if it's clearly a much better deal then say what you would expect to pay online.

i must sheepishly admit i'm guilty of perpetuating this. sometimes (actually, more like "oftentimes") i'll ask the price of something and have the seller tell me something downright reasonable, like "$6 for Gamecube games", and i'll decide not to buy any even if there are some decent titles -- sometimes i don't even feel like haggling, so i just walk away. after you get used to certain prices, it gets hard to go back to the not-so-amazing ones.

my friend will usually catch me doing this and point out to me that i'm being extra-cheap, but i just can't help it sometimes. whether or not i have had a lot of good scores up until a given point will also dictate how much i'm willing to pay. for example, if you've got Mega Man 6 for NES and you won't go any lower than five dollars, i'm probably gonna say no if it's the first sale of the day. if, however, it's close to noon and i haven't found squat, i'll likely snap it up if for no other reason than i dislike that "going home empty-handed" feeling. (anyone else get like that?)

of course, this attitude has backfired on me on more than one occasion, and i often regret passing stuff up just because i'm being (admittedly) extra-stingy that day. it's definitely not the best strategy. in any event, i always stay friendly and polite with sellers, especially in case i end up coming back!

meh, VCR's, I think I have 3 or 4 of them sitting in my closet somewhere, nice to have one if you still watch VHS tapes, I use them as RF modulators for televisions that don't have the composite ports, you can run game systems through the VCR's yellow/white jacks

Hey guys! I'm the CAG from I think the 2005 thread who was too young to drive at the time and used to bike to sales in my area (about a 5 mile radius was all I could manage by noon with carrying a backpack, hills, and the like)

Well obviously a lot of time has passed (i AM driving now ;)) and I figured it's about time I go back to my roots and get back on the hunt again!

Hopefully I'll be posting again Saturday afternoon with some finds.

Donkey Kong 64
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon
Pokemon Puzzle League
Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

Karaoke Revolution Country
Big Bumpin'

Grandma's Boy
Short Circuit

Total: $9

Had I gotten to this sale a minute earlier, I would have been able to grab a ton more N64 games. Unfortunately for me, someone else had finished picking through the box just as I pulled up. Luckily for me he left Mystical Ninja behind, and I guess I can't complain with the flip value on Karaoke Revolution Country. Oh well.

Crash Bandicoot 2
Tetris Plus
Final Fantasy VIII
Mortal Kombat 4

Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
Kid Chameleon

Excitebike 64
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario 64

Total: $10

FFVIII look weird? Yeah. For some reason, all the tray cards in the PS1 games were flipped around! I have no idea why someone would take the effort to do this, but hey, at least it was an easy fix.

This looks to be a big weekend, so hopefully I'll have good things to post tomorrow and Saturday, too.

yeoldmario, what do vcr have to do with anything? This is the yard sale thread.

I brought it up as a general example of how people overprice worthless stuff, which could also be video game stuff which is worth very little even online.

A better example for this thread would have probably been a GameBoy Advance with no games for $20 I saw a little over a month ago. Big whoop dee doo your only saving out on paying tax on that compared to buying used at GameStop but these people probably didn't know any better and really though that was a reasonable price for selling it at their yardsale.

I see GBA's all the time here for $20 which is why I don't buy them, I have seen at least 10 SP's this summer for $20 or more each. Seen original GBA's for that price too. Each was extremely scratched up and didn't have a charge or a charger so the battery was probably dead. I haven't seen a Gamecube for less than 50$ with no games or memory card just controllers and adapter. I also see TV's for $10 and up but none are selling here, and I have seen none less than at least 1 TV at each house.

its tough to go back to higher prices after getting things for 25 cents to a dollar all weekend. I have basically stopped shopping in retail stores for things other than essentials like toiletries and food because yard sales have me completely spoiled. During the winter I am saving my money for yard sales so whenever I want to buy something I just remind myself it will be cheaper at a yard sale next summer. I am sure retailers love me since I have the willpower to walk out without buying any useless crap. However there are certain things I will pay for at yard sales if the condition is right and I know its worth a lot more than they are charging.

My local St. Vincents is running a $2 bag of clothes this weekend (hooray it used to be $3 not that I am complaining) so I will be there but otherwise Saturday looks like a washout. I will probably attempt yardsaling in the rain.

I can't go out tomorrow . . . we're going camping.

I hit a few today . . . kinda rainy so it sucked.

But I did find Guitar Hero II 360 (in box game and guitar) it was marked $15 and an official spare guitar was next to it (in box) was marked $10. I suggested $20 for the pair with a copy of KOTOR (original game) thrown in and the guy took it.

I'm going to flip KOTOR.

This is a very cool find because I have Beatles Rock Band on order (Amazon trade-in thread) and this is a cool preview to try with my kids (7 and 10) before RB arrives. So far, they are digging GHII.

I went to six sales and found nothing, so I got fed up and headed over the yard sale section of the state flea market and hit the goldmine.

Picked up:
Sunset Riders (SNES) CIB - $3.00
Zombies Ate My Neighbords (SNES) CIB - $3.00
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES) CIB - $3.00
Super Valis IV (SNES) CIB - $3.00
Super Nintendo Console in Box with Super Mario World - $35.00
Tales of the Abyss Mint + Complete - $20.00
Xenosaga III - $15.00
Harvest Moon Back to Nature (PS1) - $5.00

The guy I bought the SNES + games from had a ton of CIB SNES stuff at $3.00 a piece. He's also going to bring a Turbografx 16 and a Turbo Express for me tomorrow that (hopefully) he will let go of for relatively little.

Warcraft 2 Expansion (somehow I never owned this until now)
Super Swing Golf (Wii)
Star Wars Monopoly LE (yes, I am a lame-o, thanks for asking)

I just had ended up going to Bull Moose and getting Crash Team Racing for PS1 for $9. Not the best deal, but whatever. I like that game.

Today was pretty good, considering I hit up pretty much the same area as yesterday and found some Saturday only sales, mostly unadvertised.

I ended up getting Legend of Zelda: OoT, Rampage World Tour (I rented this years ago and enjoyed it the hell out of it) and Pokemon Snap for $1 each. I'll likely be selling Snap or donating it to my nephews if I ever find any N64 controllers.

I also snagged two third party PS2 controllers for my dad for $1 each. They had games for $6 each, but none of them looked worth it (mostly racing).

Finally, I picked up a copy of Power Rangers Time Force on VHS for .50 for my nephews and a universal grill ignitor and button for my dad. Our grill isn't lighting, he thinks it just needs cleaned, but the ignitor was $1 in the box.

I passed on a PS/PS2 racing wheel for $1 (it was Mad Catz I believe, and a little too heavy for me to bother carrying home like two miles), a portable VHS player for $5 (again, too heavy) and an Orion VHS player (it was make offer and didn't have the red audio jacks). My Orion is still running really well, but I've been on a lookout for another, preferably the same model... it was like a $30 model at Wal-Mart so I'm surprised I never see them.

I actually had my own yard sale with some old stuff we got from my grandmother and some kid's toys. They were all priced just to get rid of them, most things being 1 or 2 bucks. I brought in $70 and it was pretty slow today. I'm happy about getting rid of stuff I'll never use and making some money. Nobody even tried haggling, that was somewhat disappointing.

I went to my first yard sales in 3 weeks today. I didn't find anything especially rare, but some good prices.

* Ring - $2.59
* Birds of Prey - $2.59
* Star Wars: Tie Fighter - $2.59
* Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Dungeon Hack - $1.59

* Final Fantasy X - $3
* Super Punch-Out!! - $0.25
* Munchies VHS (OOP horror) - $0.50
* Resident Evil Director's Cut, disc only - $0.50
* Intec Gamecube screen (missing power... grr) - $2
* Street Fighter Anniversary Collection promo T-shirt XL - $0.25 (available for trade if anyone's interested)
* Mad Catz Gamecube controller - $1

I did spot one rare thing today... a Moonwalker VHS. But it was being guarded -- and I do mean guarded -- by two fat sassy women. They gave me the whole pitch "This has Moonwalker... and Billy Jean... and Smooth Criminal..." etc etc and then told me to make an offer. "$5?" They laughed at me. I think they wanted $100. "You can sell it on eBay and make hundreds."

Whenever I hear the word eBay at a yard sale, my mind is already walking away.

Woman: "What else can I sell you?"
"Do you have any video games?"
"Like Segas?"
"Sega, Nintendo, Playstation, anything."
"Hold on, I'll be right back"

She comes back carrying a huge stack of CDs, which I think are all Dreamcast games. She ends up having ONE DC game in that stack, Sword of the Beserk, missing the manual. Fairly scarce, but this is how it went....

"I'll give you a dollar for this."
"No."
"But you only paid $5 for it." I point out the years-old pawn shop sticker on it.
"I want $5 for it."
"I'm not giving you $5 for this."
"Then you can put it back in the stack."
So I did.

Great salesmanship, ladies! Hope you drown in your own unsold shit.

UPDATE: Just found a 12v DC adapter for the GC screen. It works :) Not exactly HD quality, but I'm pretty happy with it for $2. Maybe I'll finally get around to finishing Twin Snakes......

Rained out here as expected, I did attempt a few sales but most were packed up, one of the sales had a lady loudly talking about how she was selling on ebay on the phone, at that point I left right away and so did the few other people who were at the sale. Of course the sale was full of high priced junk that she probably couldn't get rid of on ebay.

I always get my best finds at trailer parks, must be the combination of having more space for junk than an apartment and bad spending choices. Plus the prices are usually cheap so they can get more money to spend poorly. Stopped at a park-wide sale (read: 5% of the trailers actually selling stuff) and picked up:

House 1:
XBox House of the Dead III CIB $1
Not really near the top of my wantlist but hey, complete for a buck, I'm not going to pass it up. I did pass up a sealed copy of NHL Rivals for $1 and a couple of crapola Wii games for $3.

House 2:

Genesis CIB:
X-Men
Shinobi III
Venom Maximum Carnage
$4 for all 3

SNES newer model system w/2 controllers and cords (a little messy but not awful)
Vegas Stakes (2 of them for some reason)
Tetris Attack
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 3
Super Mario All-Stars
$10 for all of it

DVDs:
Running Man 2 disc special edition
Airplane! Don't Call Me Shirley Edition
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Full Metal Jacket (still sealed but fullscreen, blah)
$10 for the 4 of them

Finally, I've been looking to pick up SMB All-Stars forever without paying eBay prices...paid like half of what I would have on eBay and got several other games and an SNES thrown in. I didn't have the 2 DKC games so that's a nice bonus. Overall it's my best garage sale pickup in a long time.

Had kind of a weird yard sale experience today.

First stop was actually a CAG trying to sell like 300 target clearance games for like $20 a pop. But they were all the really horrible games you don't buy. Did pick up Baten Kaitos Origins from him for $4, sealed.

Next sale I got a PS One, Pokemon Red, Blue, Gold, and Pikachu Gameboy Color games, and Tomb Raider GH for $10.

Next I got a Mini Super Nintendo, a NES, Super Mario World, DK Country 2, Mario Bros, TMNT, Gun Smoke, Kung Fu, Paperboy, Top Gun, Ikari Warriors, Adventure of Link (Gold Cart) for $10

Finally I picked up Pokemon Blue, Gold, Pikachu, Kirby's Dream Land, Tetris DX, and a Wavebird for $12. Then the same guy broke out a Super NES in perfect condition. Talked him down to an additional $10.

Strange day seeing so much Pokemon stuff.

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (mint and complete) PS2
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X 5th Anniversary Edition (mint and complete, with the Bonus DMC demo) PS2
Aliens Versus Predator Extinction (mint and complete) PS2

IAP was $10 each, ended up getting all three for $13.25. The lady was very nice

Also picked up a stack of 12 Nintendo power magazines for $5 total. The guy was asking a $1 each of all 12 for $5, so why not? lol

I went to frisbee golf yesterday during my hour break at work and came across a garage sale with a CIB N64. I was takling this week at work with a cubemate that needed a new n64 controller as his kids broke another one.

I went up and CIF'd for $2 on the purple controller (it was actually the exact color we were talking about, so it was perfect) and they wanted to keep the system all together so they turned me down. They wanted $18 for the system.

So I worked again this morning and they had the sale again, which is rare for our area to have a garage sale on a sunday. Well I went back and CIF'd $6 for the whole deal, explaining that the controller is for my friend's kids. They took it.

So I got
N64 Atomic Purple Bundle in Excellent shape (controllers looked unused)
RF Adapter
and to my surprise a bunch of games
Glover
Flying Dragon (some Natsume game)
Snowboard Kids
Buck Bumble
and the only one I'll keep: Kirby 64 Crystal Shards

I plan on flipping the N64 on our classifieds at work for $15-20 and giving my co-worker the controller.

Demo / Not for Resale games w/ property of Nintendo Stickers - $12
I did not notice the stickers when I bought these. Guy had some other crap GBA games. He would not budge on $4 ea. so I just took these, figuring an easy flip. When I noticed the stickers I went back to buy/ check the other games but he had sold them. The pokemon game is a true demo that even says demo when you fire it up. It reverts back to the ttle screen after 10 minutes of gameplay. The other 2 seem to be full versions of the game. The SMB Ds came with case and instruction (not pictured) and neither make reference to it being a demo. However it is clearly labeled NOT FOR RESALE. I've seen lots of NOT FOR RESALE cart games but never GBA or DS

Regardless I had found a N64 Majora's mask last year or the year before for $1 I think with a similar sticker (see pic) which sold for $176 if I recall correctly on Ebay. So maybe I can turn these for some decent $$$$

Crap my post got lost...

No games today, but no big deal. Picked up a VCR for 5 dollars(always gonna be a VHS girl forever)since my old one kept eating the tapes.

Star wars original Trilogy VHS from 1997 Gold box set

A Chorus Line: the movie(OOP)

Firefox with Clint Eastwood

6 dollars for all 3. A little steep maybe, but since the same starwars is selling for 20 on ebay and chorus line is 3-13 dollars on ebay, I consider that a modest deal now that I think on it. I have wanted Chorus line for YEARS and youtube doesn't have it.

Not to be off topic, but has anyone scored awesome designer clothing at Yardsales? One time a couple years ago, I got a real Louis Vuitton bag for 10 dollars because the lady was so rich she probably wiped her ass with 20's and couldn't bare to be seen with a handbag that had a loose strap that need to be sewn tighter. I was almost crying in gratitude. I did have it checked it was real Louis Vuitton.

Ok lets try this again, my PC crashed when I tried to post a message (I need a new one but that is a topic for another day).

Decent find after the rain killed yesterday:

All for PS1

Breath of Fire III
Mr Driller
Resident Evil 2 greatest hits
5$ for all, IAP was 2$ each but CIF for 5$ and it was taken, usual procedure in this case.

NES controller from a very nasty house in the ghetto - 50 cents

Bunch of clothing as usual, very cheap. As for designer clothes its hit or miss, you can get people selling fakes for $10 each or it can be very cheap. My mom found a chanel purse at a thrift for 3$ I have no idea if its a fake or not but regardless its a decent purse. As I mentioned I have a thrift near me that charges $2-3 a bag for clothes and this is probably my best bet for designer clothes. I don't find used clothing gross at all, I wash everything before wearing and besides who knows who tried the stuff on in a store before you. Clothing from yard sales was usually worn just by one person so its a good buy.

gotta love ya some rednecks selling stuff dirt cheap, there is one Trailer park in town that I always get good stuff from, people that sell week old 360 games for dirt cheap...I always hear stuff like I bought this and then remembered I still owe rent. and usualy its only one game at a time when it comes to newer stuff so i doubt it's stolen, I also alot of classic stuff at these sales, I guess that is what they can afford at the game shop then off load it when rent comes due.

You can try cleaning out the pin connector with alcohol/water and a toothbrush, using a tweezer or small screwdriver to bend the pins back up, or disable the lockout chip

I would recommend bending the pins back before buying replacement 72 pin's I purchased a local resellers hoard when he went to the army last year and there was a box of NIB 72 pin's in the lot and I had to bend most of them to get them to work, and they were made out of some cheap metal that bent real bad when I would put carts in the system. I was talking to the owner of the local game store about it and he said that he has had the same problem.

If nothing else you can swap the case out for a better game. Finding mint long cases is only going to get tougher with time, so the $0.25 for the case alone is well worth it.

I haven't tried yardsaling from a craigslist ad yet, moreso I haven't found a craiglist ad for a sale in my area yet. Everything is in the local paper here. I have gone up to sales that had big piles of videogames, like 30 or more games for sale (overpriced, but games nonetheless) and they never put video games in the ad. Kinda makes you wonder.

This dealer could also be sending out those messages to try to discourage people from actually trying though, so that he can have all the stuff to himself.

I would think this is true though, if you post an ad on craigslist for a yard sale expect all the computer savvy people to get to it and therefore you have your game buying audience right there. The person holding the sale probably knows ebay value or craiglist value at least so yeah, it might be a deal if the person doesn't care about video game value (or if they need to get rid of it for fast cash) but I wouldn't get my hopes up about a craigslist yard sale advertising video games because they will most likely be overpriced.

It was still in the back the first trip there, and they brought it out in a pile of sports games in an unmarked case. I just happened to check the case sitting in all the crap.

And, they are going out of business because they price most good games correctly and gouge the shit out of bad games. All of their PSX games were $7 and N64 games were $15 unless they were more valuable.

It was still in the back the first trip there, and they brought it out in a pile of sports games in an unmarked case. I just happened to check the case sitting in all the crap.

i think my favorite finds this go-round were the 256MB memory card, the Arthur game, and Twilight Princess; the card because while i have a hard drive, i like to take my profile to my family's houses, and my 64MB card gets filled quickly; Arthur because it's one of my favorite shows (sue me; it's a funny cartoon!) and i never even knew the game existed; and Twilight Princess because i played through the game on the Wii but sold it, and have been wanting to play it again. this latest haul now marks 4 copies of Ocarina of Time, which is bizarre because i've had one copy for around two years and now i've managed to find 3 copies in two weeks!

it was so completely, unbearably hot on Saturday and Sunday (94° both days) that i almost didn't go 'saling, but the siren song of unwanted clutter rang loud in my ears and i gave in. while it was still sort of busy, the heat was definitely keeping people home and i think that gave me the extra edge -- a lot of my finds were late in the morning, so competition must have been slim. the other nice thing about the heat was that it seemed to make people lazy and quite haggle-friendly. nevertheless, i hope this coming weekend is a little cooler.

This was the sale the lady had me follow her home. She went inside and got the stuff and came out saying her son wouldn't part with it for anything less than $40. I told her no-way and started to get into the car. She then asked what I normally pay for nintendo stuff, I said $1 each on games and maybe $10 for the system. So she counted it all up and asked if I could do $30..nope..$25 .. nope.. I offered $20 and she took it.

I've never seen official controllers with those paint schemes. Are they customs? I know I've seen a gold controller before, but I've never seen a gold controller with silver buttons or a silver controller with gold buttons. If they aren't customs, I'd venture a guess that they are worth a pretty penny. Standard 64 controllers are worth about $18.00, so I can only imagine what rare ones like those would be worth.

What a weekend for me, I just got back from my one yardsale of the year, the annual Carnival of Sales in New York. I woke up at 7, left the house at 8, and called it a day at noon. Four hours of non stop walking, thank God I had a Camel Bak. I scoured around until 10, finding nothing, thinking this year would suck. Passed on $65 Dreamcasts with no cords, the $15 games to along with it, $25 N64s, and $20 PSP games. I saw a $10 N64 and a $15 LG White Chocolate in great shape and with all cords and box, but passed. Went back near the end of the day to get it and it was gone. I passed on a mint Game Gear with games and a carrying bag for $15. I still have the crappy one I bought last year that I can't move. Then around 10am and constantly until noon I struck gold.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC00753.jpg
We Love Katamari - $5 FOR SALE/TRADE
Harvest Moon - $2
Parasite Eve guide - $.25 FOR SALE/TRADE
Endless Ocean (Canadian) - $5 FOR SALE/TRADE

Then as I am walking by around 11am I pass a guy starting to empty a box of Gamecube/PS2/Xbox games in his truck. They were $6 a pop, I got them for $5 each. All complete.

Eternal Darkness FOR SALE/TRADE
Metroid Prime FOR SALE/TRADE
Metroid Prime with bonus disc
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil Zero FOR SALE/TRADE
Super Smash Bros Melee FOR SALE/TRADE

He threw in the 20GB Hard Drive for free, said it didn't work. We will see about that.

Came across this guy early on, didn't really want it but decided if it was still there at the end of the day I would take it:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC00756.jpg
Hyper Scan X-Men edition complete with extra controller, and Ben 10 and Intergalactic Wrestling cards - $5 FOR SALE/TRADE

More finds:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC00755.jpg
Star Wars Trilogy Widescreen brand new - $15, talked down from $20. I am so happy I found this, as some of you know I sold the full screen version recently in my forum auction hoping I would one day find the WS, and sure enough I did!
Fear Dot Com - $1
Young Guns sealed - $1
Slipknot biography CD - $1
Donovan McNabb watch brand new - $5 at Salvation Army a few days earlier FOR SALE/TRADE

Then at the end of the day I drove around with some family at some other yard sales and found these:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/Wagon004.jpg
Battle Arena Toshinden Not For Resale - $3 FOR SALE/TRADE
Final Fantasy Anthology missing one of the game discs, water damaged manual - $1 LOOKING FOR NEW MANUAL AND FF VI DISC
Spinal Tap sealed - $2 FOR SALE/TRADE

All in all a very good weekend. I spent ~$80 last year which was a new high, only spent ~$60 this year and was the first time in a few years I didn't get a console, although the Hyper Scan kind of counts. Unpictured is a Vince Carter Nets Swingman jersey I got at Champs for $23, it was 70% off since he has been traded. I also got a Kerry Kittles Nets jersey and an Antonio McDyess Knicks jersey that I got for $6 each at a consignment store.

Just to let New Yorkers know - you guys are some broke mother fuckers. 8% sales tax!? An additional 4% clothing tax!? I found some HD-DVDs at Burlington Coat Factory I was going to buy, but figured I would wait until I got back to VA to buy them since I would pay less tax. $7 is a tad high, but for new HD-DVDs I do not really mind.

Yeah I am really surprised at this too. I am surprised the game lasted until you got to it, you would think someone else would pick it up.

Some store owners are totally in the dark though, they just price everything at one price, so there are gems to be found out there, but your right in general, someone who owns a game store should at least know the value of Suikoden II.

That sale where I got the 4 N64 controllers for 2$ each, was the sale of someone who used to run a store (see how that works out in my area, hehe). She was totally in the dark on values of older stuff, but possibly knew a bit about newer stuff. I ran into this person having a sale before and you guessed it, not selling much at all. There was a bin of older consoles and all older consoles were $5 and controllers $2 each. It was all PSX and N64 though, and I really don't need any of those because I already have multiples of each.

they're custom-painted by the guy i bought them from. they're actually really well done too -- the guy opened them and painted each piece individually and did so quite evenly. i thought they were original at first, until i noticed a couple spots where the paint had worn thru a little. the best part is that the sticks are still like new: they're snappy and return to zero-center every time. around here, that can be hard to come by.

Is this about right percentage wise? I generally get to around 20-30 sales a day and score about 1 in 4 if I ask for old video games. That truely is the trick, you never know what people have hiding in their basement/garage/closet. I was a bit nervous at first about asking for stuff and a lot of people look at you weird, but you get over it after the first couple times.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I think you overpaid for this, unless there's something I don't know. There have been several new sets that have ended on eBay under $10.

And oper8r00 -- 50 cents for an Xbox? Wow. That's awesome.

$15-$16 is the average price for the widescreen set. I seen the VHS set at salvation army once but they wanted 10 bucks for it. But hey if you're a star wars fan it's definetly worth owning.

I just hit whatever is the paper, I prefer to stay local. Usually its under 20 sales a day. Its hard to count though because sometimes I run into unadvertised sales so I stop at those too. I have been finding more games last year and this year then I have ever seen at sales. Not sure why this is, maybe the economy and people need to sell stuff? Asking for video games at sales did not work for me as I did it at nearly every sale last year, yet nothing was brought out. There are many people who don't know what video games are. CIF does work about 90% of the time, so use it. Its a totally worthwhile technique.

With yard sales its just totally hit or miss on games (or anything else you want to buy for that matter).

^^I hit every sale on its first day (of the sale) in my city. If there are too many, I hit the new ones first, then go to the old ones. If there are less than 20 or so (or if I am making good time), I'll hit the next town over.

Pac-Man World (Complete, Greatest Hits) - $1 [IAP]

Didn't have have much time to go yardsaling this week so I just went around town and didn't go to much more then a dozen sales and I actually found this as the only Playstation game I saw (shortly after 10) at the last sale I went to.

Non Find BS

I got out late every day this week and missed a few things which I'll mention which will show how popular yardsaling is in my (suburban) town and that many average joes (I'm assuming this) will pick up something video game related they think is a deal as long as it's not complete garbage.

On Wednesday (2nd Wednesday sale in my town I've ever seen) I went to a sale late, about 12:15. They still had some steady tracffic this late on a Wednesday even. Asked about video games and they sold them already, refering to them as "Playstations" (as in video games I'm sure) and they still had the typical Mad Catz steering wheel for N64 so I'm guessing they had a PS1 or N64 with a few games.

Thursday sale that was only advertised on Craigslist got to it shortly after 9:30 asked about video games was told that they sold a PS2 already.

Friday one of the last sales I went to (was probably about 10 by the time I got to it) asked about video games and they mentioned an Atari that was gone, same house advertised "Sega Games" last year and I got a Saturn & some good complete/near complete NES games last year (Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior II, Ninja Gaiden III) and some other stuff, but I did show up last year about 20 minutes early.

I saw a ton of people out and about today and yesterday and I look back at how well I did last year mostly just going to sales in my town and besides being lucky with some of the stuff I found last year I didn't have as much competition last year with gas being so expensive last summer. Also I'm sure in many towns yardsales are becoming the newest shopping fade with everybody trying to save money because of the economy and all that crap :D

Wow, there was no competition out today, but the finds were horrible, It was raining but there were still about 20 sales, I found Okami for PS2 for $1, It was a greatest hits copy though. I also saw someone with a PS2 on a table in the rain, soaked, asking $50 for the wet system, and $5 per game for old sports games, I am amazed that people think they can get that much for the stuff, and even more amazed that they would let it sit in the rain.

Beat that. :D

i'll try... my wife listens to industrial music exclusively, cosplays (going to CC09 as Motoko Kusanagi), encourages me to play videogames because she likes to watch, got annoyed when i refused to throw a Halo 3 lan party at our house, has the high score between us in Geometry Wars, the theme from the original Zelda is her go-to whistling tune, she's currently playing Eternal Sonata, has her own DSLite and brings it with her on trips, owns a cat named Atari (and thinks my Atari tattoo is awesome), knows more about the Commodore 64 than anyone i've ever met, and checks every department store she shops at for clearance video games. she is also obsessed with Metal Gear Solid and, for some reason, Assassin's Creed.

i could go on, but i'm willing to call it a draw if you are. ;)

Ok, I managed to get out today as the rain held out long enough.

GBA SP light blue backlit version for 10$ with 4 games, a case and a ds lite charger

Winx Club
Wac a mole
Yoshi Topsy Turvey
Disney skate it

This was marked $12, these are almost always overpriced where I am as I haven't seen one under 20$ all summer, so I CIF very quickly for $10 and I got it. I think I got a great price. It works perfectly.

2 GBC games 1$ each

Super Mario Bros Deluxe
Game and watch gallery 2

There were other games here too but I only picked the cream of the crop, IAP was $3 each but I got the person to take $1 each.

Ok here's the kicker, I got the board game Fireball Island for only 1$. The last time I checked this was pretty expensive on ebay. I was really shocked to see this, I had to dig it out of a pile of games. Its missing pieces but probably better than not buying it at all.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saw tons of other games, and the prices were not spectacular and I really don't need that many multiple systems around here heh.

Seen but not bought :

GBC atomic purple $10 (the GBA SP I bought was at the house next door for only 10$) I have been picking these up for the last 5 years for 1$ each.

Silver Gamecube 20$ with one controller, no memory cards and 2 crap games

Dreamcast with 2 controllers (nothing else) 15$ (looked really beat)

N64 with wrestling games, generic controllers and a few accessories - $20

Original GBA 5$ - not bad if you need one, but I have too many already!

Ipod 8GB $50 (no idea what gen, it was just a sign)

PS2 bundle 50$ for the big fat model, controllers, memory cards and a lot of games (I didn't check as the games were in a sealed bin, so they could have all been crap sports games for all I know). I thought this was really good however the PS2 was the big fat model and was really dusty, it likely had DRE errors or was on the verge of getting them. I just don't trust used PS2's.

The usual smattering of 5$ or more original Xbox games

Full Auto PSP - 5$, didn't even think it was worth that, horrible game.

Another GBC bundle but it was at a sale that was overpriced, nothing really worth buying in the case either (unless you really wanted kids games like rugrats), all stuff that sells for nearly nothing on ebay.

Thanks, Fireball island would have been totally epic if mine was complete, but unfortunately its very incomplete. I should be able to get a few bucks out of it though, definitely more than the dollar I paid.

GBA SP is scratched but decent with all buttons responding, it was discharged when I got it which is probably why the price was so low but it is charging now and it seems fine, they also didn't have the right charger but I have plenty here.

don't forget that entire shell/case replacements are available online for next to nothing, and look almost identical to the original. i'm going to pick up a couple of these for myself since i have a few SPs that could use a facelift.

i looked up Fireball Island and it's exactly what i thought it was: that old Milton Bradley game (i can still remember the commercial with the little kids in safari outfits). i remember i really wanted it but never bought it (probably 'cause i was super-into my NES/Genesis at the time). i had no idea it was valuable; i've probably passed that game up at least five times this year. any idea why it's so sought-after? is it just that much... fun?

I really have no idea why its so valuable, but this is the first time I have seen it at a yard sale. Mine doesn't have all the pieces, and I haven't tried playing it yet (its really missing a lot of stuff like all the players, jewel etc). At least I got the full deck of cards). I am guessing probably because it was really expensive in the 1980's and that not many people in the 80s could afford the more expensive toys, so there aren't many around. This is kind of a poor area in general so you don't see too many really expensive old toys like the coleco table tops, game and watch, older 80's handhelds, dark tower etc.. Its also a huge board game, took up nearly my whole trunk, thankfully its flat and light and yes I do have a small car. I am sure anyone who is selling it at a yard sale would give it away cheaply unless they knew the value of it just because its very large and takes up a lot of space.

It was also sitting on a garage floor under about 15 other board games (on the very bottom of the stack), so perhaps no one else saw it sitting there which is why it remained until I got there.

I only knew how expensive it is today because one day I checked ebay and looked at the completed listings for highest priced board games since I see a lot of old board games while yard saleing. Then I was like oh snap there it is when I saw it today. I always look at the old stacks of games.

The guy I bought it from had a lot of old board games (all 1$ each), I bet there were some other gems in there I missed. No dark tower though, I know about that one too.

Onimusha 2 Guide .50
Ouija board .60

I didn't find much this weekend.

Thursday
CD drawer $0.25
5 shelf Wood DVD rack $2

I'm using the CD drawer for my playstation 1 games. I'm glad I found the DVD rack since I was running out of room.

Friday
Sonic collection game for GC $1
Oblivion GOTY PC $2
Disk 2 of a Aliens dos game $0

I went to this one neighborhood where I found the sonic game, but it turned out to only be 3 houses. I went to this one neighborhood that opened the day before, but didn't find anything I had to have. I should have went to this other neighborhood since this one guy had an atari jaguar and a bunch of snes games that sold before I got there. That annoyed me since I really like finding snes games and I rarely find any snes stuff.

Video: Pokemon - Playing with Fire / Johto Photo Finish
Total: $29.10

RCA Lyra MP3 Player: $5

iRiver MP3 Player: $5

The NES and SNES game/N64 controller were found on Friday, taken as priced. The NES should make a pretty nice bundle to resell, and I'm sure I have the cables for it around here somewhere. American Idol is from a sale that advertised "N64 and many, many games" so I got there at 9am sharp, but they had already sold them to an early bird.

The GBA bundle was from craigslist, the person was asking 20 but lived an hour and a half away in the middle of nowhere, so they offered to ship it for an extra $8. The other $1.10 was the post office's fees for the money order. The GBA and videos are going to make an awesome present for my girlfriend's godson, and Emerald can make some of our money back. Sadly, there aren't any fun Pokemon for me to steal off it, it's saved at the beginning before even choosing a starter.

I picked up the RCA mp3 player at a sale, excited to have a tiny flash player for podcasts in my car, but then found that it didn't resume playback, which is pretty useless for podcasts. So I went back to another sale that I saw the iRiver at and grabbed it instead, once I find a USB cable for it it'll make a great podcast player.

And today I took a trip down to the flea market...

Sony PlayStation 2 w/ Hookups, Controller, Network Adapter, 40GB Hard Drive (and SOCOM II inside!): $30

Spyro The Dragon
Rally Challenge 2000
Rugrats in Paris: The Movie
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Total: $13

Elmo's Number Journey
Mace: The Dark Ages
Total: $6

Bomberman Hero
Fighter Destiny 2
Paper Mario
Mystical Ninja (SNES)
Total: $25

Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures: $5

Sony PlayStation 2 w/ Hookups, Controller, Memory Card, Network Adapter: $35

Belkin Wireless-G Router: $10

OH MY GOD THE FLEA MARKET. Usually there's one guy selling the same games that have been rained on multiple times for super high prices. Today there were 4 huge video game sellers, with much more reasonable prices. The first PS2 was originally marked $40, but I only had $43 in my wallet and didn't want to spend all my money in one place. She was glad to take $30. Much to my surprise when I got home, I found there was a hard drive behind the net adapter, and SOCOM II was in the tray!

I found the next bunch of games with MvC2, asked about prices, then offered the remaining $13 from my wallet, which he accepted. I was then out of money. I didn't know what to do. I kept looking around and found 3 other huge game sellers, browsed their collections... then one of them told me there was an ATM nearby! Sooo a hundred bucks later, I grabbed a few more things. Unfortunately, the second PS2's disc tray won't eject fully, I've gotta see if I can fix that.

Funny thing, when I was doing my second run through of the game sellers, there was another kid also interested in N64 stuff like me that was pretty hilarious. He sees the crate of N64 stuff and says "Oh man, I'm gonna find some rare games!" I'm holding Elmo already, so I say "I think I've got the rarest one already, sorry." He flips through the case and goes "Oh my god, Bio Freaks! And Nightmare Creatures! These are so rare!" Uhhhhh... Not really. He hit the next two dealers at the same time I did, just picking out crappy M-rated games and gushing about how rare they all were. I guess he wasn't allowed to play them when he was a kid, which makes them rare? Beats me.

Anyway, between the Network Adapters and MVC2, I should make back more than enough to cover all than I spent today. :D

Bad news...Fireball Island was lost in the great flood of 2000. (A water pipe broke and sprayed the entire basement like a sprinkler in an office building...So even items on shelves, like fireball island, were soaked. At least it was clean water!) I was able to find the game board and I know I have everything that is non paper in a bag somewhere.

I remember I tried to sell it at a GS back in the day (when it was only a few years old/MINT CIB) and some soccer mom told me it was too expensive. I was 12 or so at the time and I had $4 on it.

I am glad I didn't sell it, but I wish I would have kept the water damaged box/paper parts. I did find my NES box and instructions as well as my first Playstation box while I was looking, so it wasn't a total loss.

Hit over 50 sales at a townwide yesterday in about 6 hours. There was definately competition out.
Approximately a dozen sales told me they just sold game stuff minutes before. I did'nt get anything
rare or collectible but I did get some decent stuff that I'll turn to compensate for my time and money.
It was a very typical CIF kind of day.

16 Pc. GBA lot 15 w/book - TOTAL $20
IAP was $3 a game. I asked how much if I took them all and the lady came back with $30 but took
$20 CIF 3 seconds after.

13 pc. GB, GBC, GBA lot - $10
This was kind of interesting as I was at a sale and asked for games and a neighbor kid said he had
some at home a couple of blocks away. So I followed him to his house only to find out his house door
was locked and he had to wait 1/2 an hour before mom's came home. I told him I'd come back later.
I left then kinda got lost and could not find the street. After about another hour or so of surfing,
I stumbled back on to that street and there was the kid in front of his house just waiting with a little
buddy. so I asked him how much for all and the kid wants $15, then the little buddy says "nah $15 is
a rip off for those games - take $10" so the kid settles on $10, I double checked with him to make sure
he was'nt going to get in trouble by his mom for selling them, because seeing the Dora, Raven and
disney game I guessed that those games were not his. But he assured me it was all good. Believe it
or not I was actually looking for Snoopy Tennis cause i'm somewhat of a Peanuts fan.

http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/3796/1001915.jpg
SNES game lot - TOTAL $10
IAP on this was $3 a game there were about another 10 or sports games I had no interest in so I
asked for a bargain if I took a few, the guy was like sure. So I rounded these up and CIF'd $10 to
counter his $15 for them all. I'm sure to turn the DK's for about 4 times what I paid total and I
needed DOOM and R&S for my collection so I was quite happy with this.

http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/3239/1001916.jpg
4 pc PS1 game lot - TOTAL $2
Dug these out of a bin with an old beat up Xbox and beat to shit games, there were several cased
and loose PS1 games in the bottom that I sifted through after the guy told me he wanted $100
for the Xbox and games. I CIF'd $2 for these "old" PS1 games which have almost flawless discs

http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/5976/1001917i.jpg
Mixed lot - TOTAL $10
Asked for games at this sale and the kid went in the house and dug out a bunch of pretty ratty
stuff. there was a bag that contained all the stuff shown and everything else was either scratched
to hell or broken. I've been looking for a "smoke N64 " as I'm trying to get all the color variations so
I would of paid a lot more, regardless I countered his $20 IAP with $10 that he took

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5650/1001918t.jpg
COD 4 & COD WAW - TOTAL - $10
Asked for games at this sale and the guy brought out about 7 or 8 games all older sports except
for these. He told me his kids just broke the 360 and they were'nt getting another one. He wanted
$10 per game, I CIF'd $10 for both

Damn, I just traded my COD4 and WAW into the Amazon deal (somewhat reluctantly). If I found them both for 10 bucks I'd be doing backflips. Nice finds.

Sega Genesis with two controllers, hookups, and about 15 games and manuals $7.50

The highlight of the bundle was Streets of Rage with its manual, which was a pretty cool added bonus, because I took the bundle for $7.50 CIF without really looking through all of the games. It also had a couple Sonic games and some older sports titles. There was also a PS1 system mint with a stack of about 12 games for $10. I offered the $10 right away, but it was 'on hold' for some lady who was deciding if she was going to buy it, while she was still picking through other things at the sale. Ughh lol

After scoring the Genesis at the yard sale, I decided to go to a few flea markets. I ended up getting a few games there too.

Street Fighter 2 Champion edition $3
Zelda 2 Link's Awakening with slipcover $2

And here is the real score of the day:

Sacred 2
Battle Fantasia
Civilization Revolution
Lost Odyssey

All 360 versions for $30

Only thing I found this weekend was a Gamecube and Wavebird. Wanted $50 for both. $20 for just the wavebird. The kids dad came over and said, $10 for the wavebird. I said $5. He thought about it, and I started to walk away when he said ok $5.

So that is two wavebirds in two weeks. Weird.

Big find this weekend. Gonna take me awhile to sort it out and take pictures and such.

Here's how it went down: My friend and I just came right off the heels of a decent find– SNES + 60 games, but nothing worth more than $2, and a Genesis + about 20 games... but he wanted $150 for all of it! Screw that! I tried to CIF him, but was rather sheepish in my attempt ("um... well.. I just have $40, would you take that?")

Dejected, we headed to the next sale on the list... we spied a bin of controllers and started poking through it. It was just a box of Genesis controllers, so I turn to the guy and ask "Hey is there a Genesis to go with these controllers?" and he said "Tell you what, you give me $50 and you can take all of the video game stuff. All of it, just haul it away". I was kind of confused like wtf? $50 for a box of controllers, then my buddy tugged at my arm "Uh, Buck... look".

There are boxes and boxes of games, systems, peripherals. The guy used to be a collector, then went on to sell at Flea markets, and now he has a steady job and a girlfriend so the games have got to go. I only had $40 on me, so I had to borrow $10 from my friend, but I paid him and hauled it all away. Here's the full haul:

1 Sega Genesis (1st model)
2 Sega Genesis 3
2 SNES systems
1 Sega Saturn
1 N64
1 NES (broken... this will make my 3rd broken NES find :( I still don't have a working one)
1 Atari 400 and the 410 cassette recorder add on
about 25 Atari 2600 games
about 5 Commodore 64 cartridge games
about 18 Genesis games in box (mostly sports titles, though... feh)
1 Sega Master system game
1 Sega Master system phaser
1 NES light gun
a set of C64 paddles
about 10 N64 jumper paks (oh boy)
about 15 N64 AC adapters
1 set of N64 wireless headphones (I didn't even know Nintendo made these)
about 20 Genesis controllers of varying types (6 button, 3 button turbo)
about 16 NES controllers
6 N64 game boy adapters
16 (yes, 16) Dreamcasts, in varying condition. I've tested 4 so far and all 4 work, so we'll see how this goes.
6 dreamcast controllers
2 PS2 Guitar Hero 2 controllers
5 N64 games (bio freaks, jet force gemini, mischief makers, NBA something or other
and some random random junk like an assortment of adapters, an Xbox DDR mat, some PS2 skateboard peripheral, a paintball lightgun that you hook into the tv

All for $50.

The sad part of it is there isn't much here I'm going to keep. I already have all of the consoles listed, but I should definitely make my money back on eBay with all of the stuff (and then some) so I'll have more money to throw at the hobby. Maybe I can pick up that TGFX16 or 32x or some Saturn games or a working NES or something with the proceeds.

I tell you what, after doing this for 2 years, this was definitely a fun find! I was losing faith in Portland and I hit 4 sales almost in a row with interesting stuff.

No it's some big heavy skateboard you put on the ground and stand on, looks like a Top Skater thing. I freecycled it at my apartments because I didn't much want to mess with it. I didn't think anyone would be interested.

Dude I remember you haha. I remember you managed to get a pretty good haul once only to have to take two trips to get it home. :applause:

Ah. I was hoping it would the the Yanya Caballista fingerboard that attaches to the controller. The game itself isn't worth much, but if you pair it with the fingerboard, the value goes way up. I'm guessing its because most people lost theirs.

NES "dogbone" controller, $2 for all

it was so hot this past weekend, i almost didn't go out. apparently temps were only in the 80s, but it felt like 100. despite my best attempts to protect myself, i think i still got a little burned.

on Sunday morning, i sat up in bed and told myself, "okay, i'm not going today. i'm too tired." ten minutes later i was in my car, rubbing my eyes. i'm sure glad i forced myself to go, 'cause everything, starting at the Game Boy Pocket down to the 32X stuff, was found on Sunday. this is extra awesome, because usually Sundays aren't very good for sales here.

my favorite stuff this go-round was the Wii/PS2 bunch. the games were all $5 each, and the Wii remotes were $2 each. i grabbed everything together and went over to the seller and asked if they'd give me a better price for buying a bunch at once. they said $20, and i countered with $16, which was accepted. everything is in beautiful condition, except one of the Wii remotes has some scuffs on it -- everything works perfectly though.

things that made me sad: the incomplete PSX games were a real bummer, but i've already got the book/manual for Lunar 2 so that's not so bad. the dogbone controller of course had me sniffing high and low for the top-loading NES, but alas, it wasn't meant to be: i asked the seller and he had no idea where it was. the 32X (and Genesis, obviously) were also nowhere to be found. i left behind some Genesis and NES sports titles.

here's a few interesting things: i had just picked up the Star Ocean: TtEoT and Twilight Princess guides in the last couple weeks, and now i found the games to go with them! i thought it was gonna be a triple play: my friend picked up a copy of PS2 I-Ninja (http://www.killedaway.com/images/yardsales/doh00.jpg) at a sale and called me over. he held it out and said, "the disc inside is Dragon Quest VIII (http://www.killedaway.com/images/yardsales/doh01.jpg)". i was disappointed that the proper case for DQ was missing, but i thought it'd be cool to pick it up anyway, since i had just bought the guide. without opening it to double-check, i held it up and asked the price... a dollar. i paid without haggling and didn't find out until later that the disc inside wasn't DQVIII; it was the demo for DQVIII (http://www.killedaway.com/images/yardsales/doh02.jpg). my friend's usually pretty careful about stuff like that, but the part that reads "DEMO" is kinda hard to see, so he didn't notice it. oh well.

also, i had picked up the manual and map (http://www.killedaway.com/images/yardsales/goldensun.jpg) for Golden Sun last weekend for free. i forgot to post it up because it was still in my car. then i found the game itself this weekend, so now all i need is a box (haha)!! this is exactly why i always buy/ask for odds and ends when i find them; i try to never leave boxes and manuals behind. you never know when you'll find the rest of the game.

Holy shit Web of Fire!

Lunar 2 is a cool find even if it is just the discs. I've been slowly buying the individual components as they pop up on ebay every now and then. Probably a dumb idea but it somehow feels less wasteful than dumping $100+ all at once. Anyway, cool finds, I'm super jealous, etc.

I have been finding alot of stuff like this lately, I think that alot of people around here turned to reselling when the economy started going down to generate extra cash and now, got their jobs back, or are so broke they can't resell anymore. I found a guy on Craigslist last year that was trying to sell all his reselling stuff for outrageous prices...AKA higher than Ebay. A month later He bought a SNES from me on Ebay...I go to his house to deliver it and he has 3 large cadboard boxes of Games and Systems on his couch. He asked me if I was a reseller and when I said yes he told me that he was getting out of reselling and that I could have all the boxes for the SNES and $20...I left a happy man. There was another local reseller that had a large truckload of old games for sale but It was about an hour away and I was afraid he was going to be asking market price once I got there so i didnt go. Another local reseller jsut sold out to a videogame store....the only problem here is that I may be moving a bout 30 min away from this town so I'm not sure what kind of competition I will run into there.

Yeah it's my first collection haul. On reflection I should have given him my information in case he had some other stuff to get rid of, because I doubt this was everything he had.

I haven't had the resources for anything but garage sales (had $50 in my budget envelope) but flipping some of this stuff should put me on track to be a little more aggressive with the hobby.

yeah, it's only a matter of time before i find the case/box to Lunar 2. i originally found the hardcover books to both Lunar games at one sale where the person said they sold the games already. several months later, i found just the discs to Lunar and a week or two after that, i found the empty case!

now i've got the book, and the discs for Lunar 2, so the case is probably right around the corner (i hope!). i'm not too worried about the extras; i just want the complete game.

as for Web of Fire, yeah, that was awesome. i just wish i could find one in the box someday... darn those cardboard cases.

Around here the "I am going to get rich on ebay" attitude has really gone away. I think once people realized it takes actual work to pack items up, list items, take pictures and to keep the buyers happy they all said it was not worth it and realized that the dream everyone had of getting rich on ebay was not going to happen. 5 years ago everyone was hoarding everything they had hoping it would be worth something on ebay and that has backfired on a lot of people, now people are left with piles of junk they need to get rid of. Add to that the fees and policies they have come up with in recent years which make ebay very unfriendly. So now you have a bunch of ebay has-been's selling everything off for cheap. Stuff won't sell at ebay prices at a yard sale and it gets to the point where people just want rid of their stuff, or they have accumulated so much junk that they have no room for it anymore. There are a few crooked antique dealers and auction places that do estate sales here but those are easy to avoid because they put their names in the paper under which sales they are doing, and what town doesn't have these people in it?

it really sucks when you have to deal with people who know what they're selling. went out today and a guy had a TON of dvd's and games, and i mean a ton. however, he sells them for a living, thus, he wasn't a budger on prices. unfortunate.

however, my non gaming related finds, i got muppets take manhattan on dvd for a buck (which is a steal) and a nice lamp for my apartment for free.

I visit often but rarely post. Usually I find a cart here or there . . . maybe a PS2 game or even a 360 title but today I had a real score.

I saw some boxes in a driveway and then a lot of games:

http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz154/schultzed/0724SNES.jpg

http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz154/schultzed/0724Cube.jpg

http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz154/schultzed/0724GBA.jpg

http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz154/schultzed/07242600.jpg

All of the above at one sale for $65 (games were individually priced but I negotiated some discounts).

Then I came back to haggle on some systems:

http://i823.photobucket.com/albums/zz154/schultzed/0724systems.jpg

I was able to pick up all four (with hookups and controllers) for $30.

I bought about 3/4 of what they had out (everything that I wanted).

After the fact, I realized I should have pulled out $80 right away and tried to CIF for all of the games and systems at the sale. If he balked I could've gone to $100.

Hoping I can hit up a few. It's supposed to be raining, so I can't bike, and my mom's gonna be at a funeral until around noon, so I might be able to get some, but I won't get any early stuff. :/

Nice. This is a lot better than collecting pokemon, amirite?

You know it. :) I can't drive yet, so fortunately my mom took me today. Very happy about it.

Decent haul today.

Intec Racing Wheel (PS2/GC/Xbox) CIB - $5 CIF (I saw TWO more of these later in the day; earlier this year I was refused when I offered 10 for one...good thing)

PS2 games (I can be a bit too generous with these sometimes...)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles $3
Spider-Man $2.50
Activision Anthology $2.50

GBA / GB games, all CIB, $2.50 each
Men In Black The Series (GBA)
Pirates of the Carribean: Black Pearl (GBA)
Test Drive Le Mans (GB)

And my personal favorite

Game Gear system w/ AC adapter and 5 games: Columns, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, Jeopardy, and Wrestlemania Steel Cage Challenge - $15
IAP was $25 but she said she didn't know if it worked so I got it for 15. I plugged it in with the AC adapter and it does work, but the sound is very quiet and the screen looks like ass unless you view it from the right angle. So not too bad overall.

FYI It looks like ass cause its an LCD screen from 1991. Mine is in mint condition and looks horrible compared to any modern screen.

So today was my first experience in yard sale hunting and I can describe it in one word: TIRING.

After a good amount of hours going from one sale to the next, I ended up with no games .

However, I did score Seasons 1-3 of Cheers (one of my favourite shows of all time) brand new and sealed for $15 :D. The initial asking price was $20, but I ended up using the Cash-in-Face technique and had her lower it to $15 total.

Good Stuff.

Its just a crappy LCD screen, nothing to worry about there. Your unit works fine other than the usual sound issues. The sound issues can be fixed by someone with soldering experience, so if you know how to solder you can either fix it yourself or find a friend that knows how to. Again sound issues with GG systems are almost always present, it would be rare to find one that does not have sound issues.

I went out today, I got some clothes but not much else, just a bunch of people selling junk today, didn't see one game.

SO I saw some guy that had a Watermelon Green 64 with Majora's Mask asking $250. He said it was worth all of that!! LOL maybe in 1997.

I did manage to find original gameboy that was RED(was this a special edition?) with 6 games for $5 otherwise it was a terrible day of over priced goodness.
