Its still relatively early/cold in some states. But I'll keep track this year, since I'll probably be hitting garage sales for infant clothing, 2nd child due in late Summer/early Fall. And hopefully the occasional non, clothing deal.

Would this be where people would talk about Thrift Shop buys? I got lucky today. I'll copy and paste what I posted on another forum.
"Lookie what I found at my local Salvation Army today. 30 Boxed GBA Shrek the Third for $2.99 each. (the rest are behind the Spiderman things on the bottom) ! I went home and checked the ebay prices, saw that they are getting $7.50 on up and promptly returned to buy them all. It's easy money! (as soon as the shipping boxes I ordered online arrives in that is). Of course it'll take all year listing 1 box a week, but I'm patient. !"

Also check your local freecycle group if you have one, children's clothing swapping is huge here. You might be able to get some clothing for nothing or trade with someone for some item you don't need thats in your house.
I am in NY so its not going to be starting until April/May here.

About two weeks ago scored two s-type original x-box controllers and a duke (large and in charge) original x-box controller for 3 bucks. The cool thing was the guy had others cables and junk on the bottom and beneath that was a Best Buy Giftcard. I asked about the giftcard and he said "take it, probably empty". So after yardsaling, called the number on the back of the GC and low and behold $15 was still on it. Used the GC today with no problems. Try my luck on sat here in AZ.

Glad to see that the 2009 is up! Thanks Kuros!
I am hoping to do well this year but I'll have to wait until aprilish before anyone will start having sales. However, the local thrift and pawn shops seem to be getting treasures in.
I picked up:
Sonic Boom Soundtrack
Killer Instinct Killer Kuts CD
Nights (Saturn)
Paperboy (NES)
Legend of Dragoon (Non-GH, Disc 3 & 4)
No real story but picked it all up for $8.50
Also on a side note, did anyone else take advantage of the blockbuster buy 1 get one sale?

Hmmm...I had forgot about this...then again, I've been a bit busy (won't bore with the details).
Late 2008 I hit a few deals:
- SNES in box (just missing power plug which I had extra at home) for $4. It was in great shape, no yellow too.
- Ran across a few NES carts and a PS1 RPG (final fantasy 4 and 5 collector 1st print i think). Traded that stuff at a local store and picked up a few things I wanted (like a chrome Interact dreamcast joystick).
- Picked up a GameCube for $10 with 2 controllers and 1 game. Everything worked, gave it to the boys and been picking up stuff at GS B2G1 Free sales. They flipped out at Christmas when they saw the games they got.
- Some decent deals here and there at 1/2 price books (especially when they have their 20% off sales).
*BTW: if you ever get a chance, you should pick up a copy of From Sun Tzu to XBOX: War and Video Games by Ed Halter. I picked it up at 1/2 price one day for a $1 and it's one of the best video game books I've read in terms of the overall history of gaming (pre video game...gasp) and computing and how the two came together...think miliarty simulations...(as well as how video game retuned the favor to be used by military).
Let's see...2009 has been a bit slow, but not bad...
- Snagged an ebay auction for an XBOX, 9 games 4 controllers (2 wireless) and 2 sets of monster cables for $5 + $15 shipping. Noone else bid on it cuz the auction was from someone who had a "0" feedback (brand new). I took a gamble and it paid off. Halo and Halo 2 were 2 of the games, nothing else worth much other than that.
Can't think of anything else at the moment...

Sears, however I've always posted all of my finds in the Yard Sale thread.
I find that the multitude of threads for finds is a bit redundant. Plus I already post my finds at 3 forums. No point in posting them in 2-3 other threads at the same forum.

This year at yard sales I'm going to look more at the VHS movies and hopefully build a collection. No sales until probably April though.
I did that last year and plan to continue this year. My entire family consists of a bunch of Disney fanatics. So, when we first started going to garage sales, I eyed up some Disney VHS movies and since then I think I've doubled my collection. And our collection was quite big to begin with.. Most garage sales had the older "Classics" Collection movies which were ones that I didn't have.
Anyway! I'm glad to hear about your potential VHS collection.
Also, DO NOT pay more than $1 a tape (complete with case). Over the course of last year, we saw the cheapest tapes being 10 cents (cases were a bit beat up but you can change the cases out) and ranging up to $1. We even got some Disney preview tapes (usually sent to retailers and what not) for $1 each (DuckTales Movie and White Fang)
My two finds of the year last year were:
Final Fantasy 7 Greatest Hit COMPLETE - $.75
and
2x Atari 2600's with a boatload of controllers and about 50 games - $8

Thanks! I'm actually also looking for Disney movies, since I haven't seen most of the popular animated ones (Aladdin and stuff like that). I think I'll start out offering 50 cents and gradually offer less as I get more comfortable. Thanks for the advice.

no problem! Yea, definitely start at .50 and if they won't budge shoot for .75 (wait, I don't need to tell you how to "garage-sale") lol.
anyway, maybe I'll post some pictures later. my throat hurts like crazy so I'm off to rest for now!

Also, DO NOT pay more than $1 a tape (complete with case).
I saw a sale last year that was asking 2 may 3 dollars a VHS tape, I was thinking it was a joke and that they would lucky as hell to sell even a handful of VHS tapes at that price. IMO if you can sell VHS tapes for a buck at a yardsale your doing better then expected! The flea market I frequent has a seller that has tons of VHS tapes, probably somewhere north of 1,000 and they sell them at 2 for a buck.
SaraAB
01-15-2009, 09:24 PM
Yeah, 1$ a tape is borderline too much, people can't get rid of them for 25 cents each here. Last year I sold quite a few though by doing 25 cents or 5 for a dollar, so thats a good price point. If its more than 1$ a tape and they won't budge I would walk, unless its something unbelievely rare. If theres a lot of VHS you want and they aren't budging consider swinging by their house the next day or when the sale is over and check the trash!
I have about a hundred tapes here (commercial release), I had to give away all my blanks, just no room to keep them, probably had 300 blanks too. I don't feel too bad about it though because most of the ones I was using for taping TV shows were bought at a yard sale for 5$ for 2 a big bags several years ago. Considering I got my entertainments use out of them I don't feel bad about it.

Yeah don't pay much for VHS tapes at all, but if you find a rare VHS (there's tons of them) don't be afraid to pay more than that.

OK, had some junk to get rid of and ran by 1/2 Price Books. I picked up UFC Tapout 2 (yeah, yeah, I know...but it's at least worth more than $1...slightly...lol)....and Urban Chaos: Riot Response (had a bit of fun playing it when i rented it once and figured what the heck, it was cheap). At GS Riot Response sells for $15 and UFC2 for $18. So, I paid just $3.50 (plus my trade in) for the 2 games.
Ran by a Goodwill on the way home and picked up a GameCube controller for $5 (boys been beggin me to pick another one up so I can play games with em). Seeing as they are $15 at GS, not a bad deal all in all.
OK, someone else's turn now...

Is there a list of rare tapes I should be looking for? I know Song of the South is pretty rare.
uhh song of the south is rare as HELL. I believe they only released it in Europe? and then some groups reproduced it and sell it on dvd on ebay or something (unofficially of course!).
rare tapes... hmm.. well theres the version of The Little Mermaid with the penis on the cover (google it to see the recalled cover). I believe there was a recalled version of the Rescuers Masterpiece collection version. I dunno, I'd say just pick up at least 1 version of anything you find. I didn't see The Nightmare Before Christmas all that often so I picked up one of them (doesn't have "Walt Disney" anywhere on the cover, but I think that's normal :P), uhm, I really don't know. But most of the "Classics" collection movies are pretty rare. Hopefully someone can give us a list because I would like to know as well.
But thats my input for ya! :)

Ran by the pawn shop the other day and they had a metric crapton (yeah, it's a real measurement few people are aware of) of those Disney tapes your talking about. They were $1 each too I beleive. I didn't pick any up since I don't have a VCR anymore but I did pick up a couple uncommon games.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS)
Command and Conquer (N64)
They were marked $5 each but I was pretty broke and all I had on me was only $6. Luckily, I caught her in a 'good mood' so she let me have them for that.

couple months ago, I got on VHS, awesome condition boxed set of the first 6 star trek movies!!!! 5 bucks. They even have little promos and coupons inside the sleeves...I guess that was a nice deal. Here in NJ its way too cold for yardsales, and we have one lame thrift shop that never puts anything new out, even though they have a back room FULL of stuff. Their friends get to pick through first.
Actually they DO have a 3 DO with 5 games for 100 dollars. A friend told me it's a rare version of the 3DO which is the reason for such a high price.

I know the rest of the country is going through a ridiculous freeze right now, but let me tell you, the weather in SoCal has been UNREAL. I'm talking 80 degrees in LA, high 70's at the beaches, clean and clear skies, light breeze at most.
Went to a couple of sales I came across today as I was doing some business work, nothing at the first but found Pikmin 2, complete and near mint at the second one. Guy wanted $10 for the game, I CiF'ed him $3 and he took it, I told him it was all I had and to take it or leave it. It actually helped that it was the only game he had left - he told me he just sold the Gamecube along with all his other games (3 or 4, but nothing of note except for Windwaker) but the person didn't take Pikmin 2. His loss, LOL.
It's going on the trade list as soon as I test it. Oh it's Player's Choice, but only the outer case indicates that, not the disc or the instructions.

Amazing Turbo Deal, that is one of the best finds I've ever seen on this site, the combo of rarity, uniqueness, and price is great.
I found a JVC E'eye with 2 cart only games (world of illusion, Super Hydlide), 1 disc only game (Power Rangers) and 2 controllers, no wires for $6. I've never seen one of these before, the Genesis Slot works fine, the CD needs to be fixed. This was at the same flea market as I found the Amiga CD32 last week, and this dealer was set up right next to the guy I got the CD32 from. Maybe next time Ill go Ill find a Neo Geo or a CDX:)

how do you guys locate your garage sales?
do you just look for signs posted around town and such?
or
is there a site you use?
I used a site all last year for these and it was good, but they changed the whole format of it now and its not all too great. (it's a local newspaper website)

Bingo! And check out Liz and Dom (EvilMax and Moeity)'s blog/website for tips. The truly hardcore yardsale adventurers will map and plan out their route from sale to sale, along with being flexible enough to change up the plan if they encounter an unknown/unadvertised sale.
But with craigslist ads, you have to watch for a TON of competition, especially if video games, toys, collectibles etc. are listed in the ad. You either need to get to the sellers before the sale, either via email contact, or be an early bird even if they say "no early birds".
Despite the huge amounts of competition here in LA, there is one damn good thing about the size of city - there are tons and tons of sales almost every weekend, in every corner of the southland.

I'm patiently waiting for yard sales to start in my town in Central, PA. I've had amazing luck since moving here in '05. Here's the big ones...
Summer of '06: Convinced my dad to buy a box with a 64, SNES, and Genesis (2nd gen) systems in it for $10. It had two games both 64... a Pokemon (Arena... Colliseum?) and Rugrats. Two Genesis controllers, an SNES controller (sadly no 64's) and an RF switch for the SNES. I took the Genesis stuff and bought the power/av cables.
Summer of '07: Blue GBA first ed. for $10 with Dungeons & Dragons for $5.
Later that day, I got an NES w/ a lot of extras for $5. Mint condition, owned by a trucker who had no kids. Had close to 10 games with it including SMB/Duck Hunt, SMB3 and a Zapper which looks like it was never used. Also, two contollers, two of those big joystick controllers and all the cords.
X-Box: Mountain Dew edition. It was $20 with 7 games (a COD, which I misplaced, and no case as it was in the system... Flatout and 5 football games). All the cables, but sadly no controllers. Luckily, my friend gave me the two back I gave to him that I got the previous summer for $2 each... a duke and a green S.) Same dude had a white GBA for $10 with an obscure game in it, but I only had $20 to spare on me... which I was surprised he took for the X-Box as he had no price on it.
Summer of '08: Streets of Rage 3 in the box w/ manual and Super Punch-Out (cart. only) for $5. They were sitting in a box full of crappy PSOne titles for $5. I was really happy they cut me a deal of $5 for both, as I figured they'd want at least $10 if not knowing the value of the two, esp. SoR3. (They were selling cheap dollar store stuff like two rubber door wedges for $2-$3)
Another 2nd ed. Genesis that came with Sonic 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles (carts only), Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention and Whac-a-Critter... cables and controllers. $5 for the box. I gave the Genesis and Sonic 2 (I already had it) to my bro. His ex-gf ended up with his Genesis that had no cables after they broke up.
Donkey Kong Country and The Pagemaster for $1 each for the SNES. This year's the first I've found SNES games for sale.
A bunch of other Genesis games over the years, usually $1... sometimes 50 cents.
Sharp VCR for $4 w/ factory remote and manual. I gave it to my nephews who have apparently been slowly killing it. (The picture was great when I got around to testing it out. When I was at my gram's, it wasn't playing all their tapes.)

I never check Cl or anything for yard sales, just go to the signs.
I've learned that it's best to go across town to the foothill's, because up there is only retired people looking for antiques, not video games, and dirt cheap prices because people are just looking to get rid of crap not make money.

Yeah, that's how my town is really, I've never had to fight anyone for video games or electronics. I do use the classifieds for ease though and just keep my eyes open for other signs. This town was apparently a BIG Genesis area... I've gotten over 40 games in three years, usually for .25-$1.
Plus it's nice here because a few of the neighborhoods hold area yard sales. Almost all of them are all day ordeals and usually involve walking home and back out at least once to drop stuff off (lugging an X-Box or a VCR or a computer monitor a mile home on a hot summer day after walking around two or three miles is a work out. :hot:.)

My town is kind of like this, except for I just don't think people care enough to look for video games at yard sales. I never encounter any fights, but I have seen people pick up things that I necessarily didn't want in front of me. People seem to really be looking for random things. Junk doesn't sell, if you have junk just donate it, it will save you a lot of trouble. Furniture and children's clothes are big sellers around here. You are more likely to get into a fight over some 25 cent pants for your kid than to get in a fight over some video game.
Most people around here are ignorant towards video games and the pricing of them, everyone goes to Gamestop to buy their video games. Most people who play video games here just want the newest game, and could care less about older stuff. They don't care what they pay for their video game they just want it, they want the newest and they want it now. There aren't many people around here that care about older games (ie anything other than current gen xbox 360, ps3 or wii), and older games are what you find most at yard sales. I've seen several independent video game stores go down here just because they cannot sell any product because no one wants older games.

This may be helpful on the X'Eye. Snotknocker sent it to me back when I found one last year. Not sure if it did the trick because I sent it off to Shipwreck.

I haven't been to a garage sale yet this year, I'm not hardcore enough to go out in the 15 degrees weather to check for games. Last year at this time there were no sales her, this year there seems to be several every other week!!

Picked up a Lime-Green Game Boy Color today at a thrift shop for 99 cent!
I also got some sealed CDs at a GS a couple of months ago and never got around to taking a pic. I promised some better finds, so here they are:
I got Siouxsie & The Banshees: A Kiss in the Dreamhouse STILL SEALED for $2
and Joy Division: Substance Original Release STILL SEALED for $2.
The first sells for $50-$75 and the second between$125-$200.
I also picked a SIN CITY (sealed) for $2 and some other CDs like NIN broken and Spiritualized live at Royal Albert Hall that were also sealed for $1.50 each.

I forgot to add I bought a windows 95 ACER computer only (no keyboard /mouse) for $1.10. She wanted to charge me extra for the power cable, so I CIF the extra .10. I didn't know what OS was on there, but she said she was using it for a DSL connection. Anyone know if that is possible on a win 95 machine?

Most people here are obsessed with older video games because of a monster chain store called Bookman's that overprices their old games and makes people think that their shit is worth money, or people go bat shit insane over video games and buy a ton of them at yard sales. They're probably the best selling thing. My city is filled with hoarders.
The foothills is the only place where I can get reasonable deals on games. >_>
This wouldn't work over here because people know they can get used PS2 games for very cheap at gamestop or even other retail stores (most casuals don't care about the condition of the game), and using this logic anything older should be cheaper. If older games are overpriced over here, they just don't sell period. Selling N64 games for 30$, not gonna work, try 50 cents to 1$ each, you might get someone who wants them. Most of the time I find them just sitting there later in the day.
Another unique thing I have observed about my area, NO ONE is up at 8am, I have tried it before, you can go out at 10 and 11 am and find the same stuff you would at 8am. Unless perhaps its advertised as an indoor "estate sale" then you might get some early birds, but every other run of the mill yard sale is different. Indoor estate sales have yielded me NOTHING over the years here in the way of video games or toys. Most people aren't even ready at 8am so its to your advantage to go a little later for better selection, cause if you go at 8, you might find nothing out at the houses that are supposed to have sales. Even when I have gone out between 9-11, there was no one out. I can go out at 2pm and still find plenty of yard sales open. When I held a yard sale last year I didn't start getting customers until about noon.

Wow, I wish my area was like that.
We have families of people with tons of kids and giant trucks packed with stuff coming up from Mexico and sometimes waiting in front of advertised sales with good things at 4 am. I have to be up by 5 to get anything.
Oh I live in an area that is 60-70% welfare people, I don't want to stereotype and I don't mean to offend anyone but after a long friday night of partying and drinking at the bar (and other activities of course that I will not mention here) NOTHING will get these people out of bed. The people that aren't into drinking and partying (very few over here, its pretty much the only entertainment source left) have somewhere to be with their kids on Saturday mornings. Another thing is people don't have cars here (or they don't drive them in the summer), I know this because when I had my yard sale 90% of my customers came on foot, some from many blocks away. When I talk to the people who have yard sales they always say business is slow. No one drives around to sales anymore around here. The welfare people don't have computers and don't know how to use them and don't care (again I don't mean to offend anyone here), all they care about is their drinking and partying. If they have a computer and the internet they are using it to look at you know what and not using it for any purpose other than that. The "ebay bug" has pretty much worn off and the people that still think they are going to make money off ebay don't really know how to do it and are too lazy to actually go and do it, they just talk about doing it.
There aren't many young people here, they have all gone to other states because NY sucks so much and there are no jobs here, not that there are jobs anywhere but I am sure this area is more economically depressed than other areas. The kids here want Ipod touches and cell phones, not used junk (as they call it) from yard sales, and new video games, not old ones. Anything later than the PS2 is not cool anymore. People go to Gamestop to buy a video game and think they are getting a good deal no matter what they buy! I have watched people spend 50$ on a few garments of clothing from the SA that looked like rags and they thought they got a good deal! The young people that are here as I said, are doing the partying thing all night and they could care less about getting to a yard sale for some deals. They had everything handed to them as a kid and were never taught how to shop frugally or how to look for a deal so they don't care. There is also no money left after the people who have jobs blow their whole paycheck (and then some) in one day at the Casino or at the bar.
The only thing good about living here is its very low key, I don't have to worry about how I look or what brands of clothing, what brands of makeup I buy etc... because having clean clothes makes you look good around here! Also everyone is too stoned to realize what anyone else is wearing, nor do they care. I probably dress better than most people here simply because I don't go out in my pajamas like everyone else does. If you put on a pair of jeans to go out that's pretty much considered dressing up here.

Picked up a Lime-Green Game Boy Color today at a thrift shop for 99 cent!
Nice. I found one of those at this awesome Goodwill like 30-40 miles from my house for $2.97. It had the big black rubber "dropper stopper" thing on it and a see through green battery charger in the back (sadly, no charge cable). Still, I noticed I can unscrew the batteries and put in a regular set. I tested it out holding the batteries in and the screen looked great, a little better than the dark blue gameboy I bought a few months before for $20 (granted, it came with a handful of game... the Goodwill had no games for this one.)

Sorry all I posted this on the 2008 forum so I am quoting myself so its in the right place.
Hi all I am new here but would love to tell you my recent find. I didn't find at yard sale but at a Salvation Army type place. I asked if they had any game systems and they showed me a sega genesis game still factory sealed. They had it marked $12 and I thought no way I am out of here. It was Earthworm Jim 2 and in VERY NICE SHAPE. So I left looked up on ebay and found that just the cart had listings at 12+ so I jumped in the car and went and snagged the game.
It is like I said still factory sealed. I hope this was a Good find. I will keep this copy as it is now one of my center peaces along side my factory sealed NES Power Pad (Free at garage sale last year).
I have 50+ NES games (carts no doubles), 10 PS2 (complete), 15 PS1 (complete), 8 Intellivision (complete), 2 nes (complete), 8 genesis (complete not including new one), 10 SNES (carts only), 6 N64 (carts only), 2 2600 (carts only), 6 7800 (carts only), and 30 xbox (cd only just picked up at garage sale w/system $10)
I have the following systems. 4 NES, 1 SNES, 4 N64, 2 Genesis ver 1, 1 Genesis ver 2, 1 xbox, 1 ps2 slim, 4 ps1 ver 2, 1 7800, 1 Inttelivision (with box and papers like NEW box has some damage), 2 game boy colors (oh yea and 1 game boy game),
I have the following accessories (beyond regular controllers and memory) Power Pad, Nes advantage, supper game boy, bunches of nes guns gray and orange.
Sorry about spelling all. Do you feel the Earthworm Jim 2 was a good deal? also is this a good start for my collection? I am getting back into it most I got last year around this month through garage sales.
I will have to go through and list my games someday
EDIT: Oh yea I also picked up a Xbox 360 wirless controller, Xbox controller, Some fan box for xbox 360, 2K Sports All Pro Football 2k8 xbox 360 game w/case, Two Worlds Xbox 360 CD only, and 2K6 Xbox CD only. All for $5.00
EDIT 2: Just got back from todays sales... N64 Diddy Kong Racing $1.00, N64 Topgear Hyper-Bike $1.00 both are carts only in OK condition with Very good lables. A SNES Controller $2.00 I was going to pass but need an extra one so I bit, and the last item I passed on was a Sega Saturn for $20.00 with 2 controller and Steering wheel but I left my number and said I would take for $15.00 however I will drop to $10 if they wont let me test it out.
Today was kinda a wash-out. I didn't get any gameing stuff. I ended up with a hand drill $1.00 (but it broke on me after I got it back), a pedometer $1.00 (figure I will make a buck here) and a digital shipping scale $2 (will use as a backup unit). So We will see how tomorrow goes. I got a call back on the sega today and they will take $15.00 with 2 controllers, and a stearing wheel. I don't feel its worth it (no games) but I know they sell localy at game stores for $29 and thats with only one controller. I will call back and tell him I will take if he sets it up for a test to make sure it works. I know its a bit much to pay but I have wonted one of these for a while. By the way I said it was a satern and its a dreamcast sorry for that.

Sorry for two postes so soon but I was looking over my sealed nes pad and it felt light (very very very light) compaired to my other non sealed one. I called a freind and he came over and said it was probaly a display model. We looked at his and the seal was diffent and mine was way lighter then his sealed. Well i knew instantly what I had it was their dang display box. F**** I thought I had a good deal this whole time and it was empty other then filling. We punched a small hole (I know bad idea) in it to see if there was a pad in there and it was just packing penuts.
My sega game does have the same shrink wrap as his sega games so that makes me very happy. I just cant beleive my luck (or lack of). I have thought I had something all year and its what made me decide too start GSing again. DAMN I AM PISSED.
So for all that read my poste in envy it was all blown down about 20 minits before this poste. I am not a happy person right now but that is ok I can take it out on them GS's that say "We just sold a whole lot of nintendo games for $$$$" To withc I can respond I would have given some out of this world number :) gets them every time.

I had edited twice. so I figured that was enough. Like I said its a Dreamcast not a satern I don't know why I wrote satern earlyer in the poste but I changed it later if you read that part (I do alot of skimming so I mis some parts also). I will call them tomorrow instead as I don't wish them to think I am too interested in the system.

Pokey Man bed sheet paid asking $1.00 gave too my nephew
two small (not working but I got one fixed) music players in shape of record player. Free in box
The morning started out crappy everyone said oh yea I have one but I don't wont to sell it..... One guy even bragged that his was only used once and in prime shape. This guy said every thing in his sale was practical new when it was all dirty crap so I doubt his nes was all that good. Why cant these idiots get it through their heads that I am only asking if they would like to sell a system. THIS GETS OLD QUICK. it goes like "Yea (me getting exited but not showing it) but I keep" WTF then just say no.
I don't know how many GS I hit and got nothing (upper part of town). What also gets to me is how these advertised sales only have 1 small table full of crap. Its even so bad that they are basically selling for profit GRRRRRRRRR I see why you all have complained in the past.
So I had to go to work for an hour at 10am and was back at the few still open. Things picked up a little. Here is the (not bad not good) scores.

I was at this guys sale before the last photo pictured I asked about games and he said he had a ps1 and DC but his wife wanted to keep the DC because it had her favorite game. So I asked if I could keep car parked in front while I checked out the other garage sale. When I got back I asked him what PS1 games he had. He brought these out and I asked how much. He said I could just have them. :bouncy: I asked if he could go any lower and he laughed at me 8-). The are very nice shape with very little scratches. FREE YES

Said Free but I gave $1.00
Would you believe they had there PS1 with 5 Scratched to hell sports games marked $100.00 but told me I could have whole box for $50 I about choked (hard to keep a strait face). I asked how much for just the games (not intending to buy) and they said $3.00 each. I am thinking $85/$35 PS1 SCORE NOT. So I asked if he had any other games and this is the only one that caught my eyes.
OK ITS not as good as you all think. There was no disks just the case. He said he broke the game disk and through them away. Mother said I could have case for free. This GS was to support his band trip and so I handed him $1.00 and left a very happy person. I know case is not worth much but I will look for Disk only which is very common with disk games.
Wish me better luck next week cant wait for Tuesday to start GS'ing again. I don't GS on Sundays (wont transfer money on Sundays).
I decided against the Dreamcast system.

The rubber band thing is a bracelet, like those yellow livestrong ones that were popular a couple years ago. Cool so I was right it will be a cool little widget to add to collection
EWJ2 sealed is hard to say a price for, I'd try listing it on ebay and set reserve for like $50. Thanks for suggestion but not willing to sell was just wondering. If I don't have copy of games they will never be sold and I always keep my best ones.
The DDR plug and play thing would be hard to sell, maybe 5 if you could find a buyer. That's what I was thinking not worth much. Thanks for confirmation. I will keep it just in case someone wont's to play it here. I am still glad I purchesed it but I like to know what stuff is worth. If it would have been worth $10 + I would have listed this but considering nothin I will keep it.
Thank you for responding

I wouldn't be complaining about $1-2 on a game controller, especially if it worked decent and you really needed it. I don't think that's overpaying at all.

Wow I would love to have that computer. I am looking for a couple of computers besides that one. I am looking for commodore 64, Atari computers, kapro 2, and well basically all the old non Microsoft/Apple computers.
EDIT: I also was starting to put a blog containing my collection but changed my mind and have listed my game collection here http://club.ign.com/b/list/custom?&lid=100018&owner=desert_gold_hound&mode=vown

What kinda price you thinking of?

I don't even know what they are running. I would have to look up. The problem is that these are going to cost quite a bit in shipping and I just don't think we could work a fair deal out for the both of us. You wouldn't receive a fair price or I would over pay.
EDIT: The book alone is running over a 100 on eBay and that's just the book. There is no way I could buy this from you. I couldn't give more then $40 after shipping and that would be a very very very bad sale for you. Even 40 is pushing it when I saw some last year at a thrift store much cheaper (didnt know what they had). SO I think I will chance it and wait.

stopped at a used furniture store today because I remembered they had some knickknacks in there before and asked about game systems. Well they showed me a box full of dirt with some games and systems mixed in. I instantly saw the dream cast I have been wanting. I asked how much he said $50 I actually laughed out loud and asked if that was with the dirt. I CIF $20 and he responded he could take it to a game store and get $50 and I told him they will require to test and that non of the buttons would push, and they would not take it. I told him I would save him from the EMBARRASSMENT and take it for $25 he countered $40 and I told him he could just let it sit and gain more dust. As I walked off he yelled $30 I hesitated but decided to take a risk.
Sorry for the following pictures. I hate it when others post a heaping pile but wonted to get this marked on the form.

Yes I paid $30 total. I figured out the transfer pack but I have to change the battery in the Pokemon blue. I will print up a makeshift label for the Pokemon blue just so its not marker. I got a lot of the games cleaned up now (outside) and some are looking good others looking about what I thought. Overall I am happy with purchase. Nothing is mint but I am ok with that. I am glad I passed on that other dreamcast.
I wish I could get some rumble packs, memory cards, and expansion packs for the 64 system it seams non of them come with these. Everyone I know that has gotten them seems to have them but no I cant find them. I will not buy over the net so I have just gota wait. Oh yea I also noticed the 64 does not have a power cord but I have 4 64's now so not a bigy.
EDIT: I tried out the SNES after a quick outside cleaning and blowing the inside out. It seams to light up but not play so I will have to take it apart and try to get a good cleaning on it. I may replace the pins but am hopping not too have to go this rout.

Once again, it is to cold here in the Midwest to have yard sales and oddly enough, the pawn shops have not had anything worthwhile in at all that I didn't already have. The closest that I have seen to anything good at all, is at the local pawn shop. The have a copy of Suikoden III complete but I already have that and also a disc only copy of 2002 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Racing. Both $10 each so I am passing on them. Hopefully somebody will put some good stuff on the local forums so I can temporarily redeem myself but things are not looking good thus far.

Stoped at two GS today and nothing. There was only one listed for Tuesday and the other was non advertised. Both were on the way to work so that made it nice.
UPDATE: I need to wait tell I get home for the day before I post I see as I decided to stop at thrift store (friend works there) and he had a N64 mint condition with box (good shape), Controller, and Plugs. I would have normaly passed but it was in such good shape I took it for $10. They had it marked $20 and my friend said I he could only go $10 and when he gives me a low price that is the lowest he can go.
I will edit again and paste some pic's of the box. This is the nicest N64 I have ever seen

Well I know I said I would wait to post at the end of the day, but I decided that I can always edit such as I did above. Today was not a great day but I am very happy with it. I got some stuff but most of all it was really fun. I met some nice folks and really enjoyed my morning sales.
Here is the items I did find (all at one Church sale).
1000E Modem for Atari computer (OK shape)
1 SunCom Tac5 controller (will work on Atari or computer ok shape)
1 Box and book for SynCalc software for Atari (no disks box in pore shape book in good shape)
1 Pole Position for Atari computer with box and book (book ok, game mint, box pore)
2 Sega genesis control pads with boxes (controllers in good shape, boxes pore w/ one missing flap)
1 Atari computer RF adapter
2 atari electrical boxs (don't know what for but I think one is for modem)
2 atari joysticks (both in ok maybe good will see when cleaned/tested)
They wonted $2 each for sega controllers
and $1 for the SynCal they accepted $3.
They quoted me 1.25 for the rest and I just paid
So it came to $4.25 for all.
I know I still have to post pictures of the above post, and I will post these at same time.
UPDATE: All working except the tac5 controller so I didn't picture it. Some switches were broke and I will keep the rest for parts. I didn't include this product in picture for this reason.

I also would like to show a before cleaning and after cleaning shot of the Atari controllers what a difference pictures doesn't do it justice. All I did was take apart and wash all plastic just like if I was washing dishes. I also use isopropyl alcohol on the boards.

Cant find price of EWJ 2 sealed any guess's?
Cant find price of DancePad anyone know? ($19.99 ebay but thats buy it now so I don't trust it EDIT: this is also new)
Would you all have given $1 for FF7 case? (it is the greatest hits one)
the picture shows the NON- greatest hits case, is that the wrong case?

I only make the early ones during the week. We have the odd ball gs's here during the week and I hit all of them that I can. I always mark when it is a thrift store.
I am in Lake Havasu City AZ. One other thing to mention with this is our GS/Swap season is during the winter as its too hot during the summer.

I think I would have held my ground at $20. He probably would have come around. No video game store in the world would have paid $20 for that stuff in that condition. Heck, only about 1% of games stores still take vintage games to begin with and they give pennies per game and system.

Its a FF7 mish-mash. Looks like someone took the FF7 black label front and GH back label to make a complete case. Front should look like this -

I don't have a side image as of yet but like karkyco said just use coverproject and keep the old back image behind. And yeah a buck isn't bad for the case only. I picked one up for free GS last year and flipped it on ebay for $10.

Go to the cover project:

And go to the PS1 section and see if you can find the raw scan of the back cover/insert for Final Fantasy VII, but the black label (not greatest hits green label) version. Then, print it out and switch out the inserts.

Well the GS's I hit today were empty of game things other then one where I am waiting for a call back. I did buy one item non game related that I am putting on E-Bay tomorrow. I will get better pictures first though (If I can turn off my flash!).
Here is what I got
VideoNow Player (not picterd)
VideoNow FOP1 "The Fairly Odd Parents"
VideoNow FOP4 "The Fairly Odd Parents"
VideoNow NM4 3 disk "The Fairly Odd Parents", "Sponge Bob Squarepants", & "Jimmy Neutron"
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q316/desert_gold_hound/GS/GEDC0028.jpg
I didn't put the player in the picture because it has a part of the screen that is not working. I will use it as a test machine though because it works good enough to test out the disks.
I paid $8.00 for all.
I figure I will get anywhere from $10 - $20 for the lot (selling as a group). So I will make a little. The disks are not scratched. The cover looks bent but is not. I paid a little much for the lot but the lady thought her stuff was gold and she was donating every thing to a cancer group and I am a sucker for non profit group sales :bomb:(SOME ONE SLAP ME). Tomorrow I have a GS that is going too a local child that has cancer. I am sure I will over pay there also. One thing I like is that when a place says they are donating the city will run checks on them and make sure they donate the amount said.

Nothing today but we had some rain and a lot of places had signs that they were closed. I did pick up a Hamilton Collection plate that I paid $1.50 that she wonted $3.50 for. I asked what the lowest she would take and I accepted. They have the plate on eBay for 29 but I doubt I will get this. I also purchased a set of curlers that my mom wont's if they don't sell. They are very very old I only paid $0.50 for I will check to see if mom gets or eBay gets. She is going with me from now on and work with me with my eBay as she looks for items that I wouldn't normal look for. Should be fun I love her so this will give us some time together.

That's lucky for you guys. My mom thinks garage saling is depressing and makes her feel poor, and hates all the crap I get from it and keep in the house.
That's too bad. I think GS is the only thing my mom and I have in common. I rock climb, fish, hike, bike, off road and other hobbies but nothing she would do. So this is a real chance for us to get back into each others life. I work with her also. I quit my old job in California when she got cancer a couple of years ago so she wouldn't lose her business and will stay working for her tell she retires in 5 years. I am glad to be with her and will proudly admit I am a momma's boy. I have GF's come and go but mom has always been there.

Finally can contribute something again to the thread! Yay!
I hadn't been to the salvation army recently since usually there is not much there that I have even been interested in. However there were some thing today That I could not pass up. I first spotted a book on origami. I like origami books, so I picked it up. As I continued walking I noticed that all the electronic stuff was moved to the corner of the store. After going through that section I noticed at first, CDs or so I thought. I looked again and they were VCDs, some sealed some not with Chinese on them. I picked up a few of those and continued on. I then found an old promo tape for N64 and picked it up. I took all this to the counter to check out. While htere I noticed the first 5 seasons of Gilmore Girls on DVD. I asked how much they were and she said $10. And this was $10 for the entire set. So recap time:
Origami Book
N64 VHS
BBC Office 1st series part 1 and 2 (VCD)
BBC Office 2nd series part 1 (VCD)
BBC Black Adder Christmas Carol (VCD)
BBC The League of Gentlemen Series 1 part 1 and 2 (VCD)
Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-5 (DVD)
After all was said and done, all was $20.

I also went to one GS that had 3 N64 $60 each 2 PS1 $50 each 1 NES $20 and they were all dirty. He had a bunch of games (maybe 20) and said NES games $4 each, SNES $5 each, N64 $6 each. I asked how much for all games and he said rudly "WELL COUNT THEM UP AND ADD YOU CAN ADD RIGHT!" I called him an ass hole and told him I wouldn't give him one thin dime. He actualy threatened to kick my ass :bouncy: I got excited and said OK lets brawl. :boxing: He ran in the house and his wife asked me to leave before she called the cops. I left and everyone followed me and two of them said they had games they would sell me :) I gave my number to them.

She had all Genesis Marked $2 and all CD marked $4 after looking through the games I estimated around 50 (was a good guess) and was thinking of offering $30 but being that it was non profit and only had $50 I CIFed the $50 and she said $75 I told her all I had was $50 and she said she couldn't. So I decided for non profit I would pay $65 if she would take. She accepted with hesitation so I borrowed $15 from mom and paid. Not a greate deal but I don't feel I did too bad. Sad thing is I found I had another $50 on me in the car.

How are you finding all these yard sales? It's like every other day you post finds. I'm guessing you're probably in Florida or California.

Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Our season is different then the rest of the country. We have very few sales during the summer months because its way too hot. So everyone has them during the winter when its not blistering out.
Would you have paid this amount some CD were a little scratched but most were good shape. I think I got a good deal but wont to see if you all agree as I don't know what sega games are going for.

LOL, yeah, for Desert_Gold_Hound it's bizarro-yard sale season. Since the summers in the desert of Arizona/New Mex get so insanely hot, they do their sales in the other seasons, and not on the weekends as he explained before.
Here in LA, we had those weekends in January with unbelievable 80 degree weather, so we had tons of sales then. Now it's been nothing but rain on the last few weeknds, so hopefully later this month and into spring we will have a ton again.

And last but not least a kid was having a GS and I was the first one there. Asked if he had any games for sale and he ran in and grabed a PS2 (don't remeber title) his dad said not to sell becouse it was his favorite game. So he ran back in and I was chatting with his dad. He said that his son will sell anything just to get that first sale in and how excited he was to have his OWN GS. So the kid returns with Dare Devil for PS2 and askes for $2.00. At this point I was going to buy what ever he had just to make his day. So I accepted the $2.00 and raised it $0.25 just to make his day. This kid got so exited he started running around telling his mother, sister and the few other GS's that started showing up "I MADE $2.25 I MADE $2.25!" Everyone started grabing something and purchasing it (I don't think they cared what it was they purchased). He was so cute running around collecting money from everyone. By the time I left he had half the stuff sold (for more then asking prices). I wish you all could have been there. This is the first time I have every given a tip at a GS but was well worth it. The game is complete and in very good shape.

Your average classic systems game on ebay will sell for about 6$ shipped, not including the rares so I think he did pretty good. Just counting the ones in the boxes it would add up to 324$ if he were to buy each game on ebay using the 6$ price point.
The Sega CD and boxes genesis games are especially nice as shipping is usually expensive on them because they have larger boxes so I always try to keep that in mind when purchasing stuff, if its something heavy to ship or a game in a larger than normal package then I usually purchase it if I have the system at home to play it on because finding it again later for less money will be a real pain.

Good point Thank you for making my day. I never looked at it quite like that.:applause:
When you don't have any stores around you that sell older games, yard sales become your only source outside of ebay and online sources. Even if I did find a good shop around here with older games it would still be hard to beat the prices you can get at yard sales and they would probably charge more than the minimum price of 6$ per game. With shipping rates constantly going up it just makes sense to buy older games at yard sales especially if they are cheaper than 6$ each. For games that come in CD jewel cases this isn't as relevant. If you find crap PS1 games that are 3$ each at a yard sale you might want to leave them behind.
Theoretically you could buy games on ebay for 0.01 and 3.99 (or less) shipping but since a lot of sellers seem to easily circumvent the 4$ maximum shipping for video game auctions I chose 6$ as being the absolute minimum price that pretty much any game would sell for on ebay. This also doesn't take into account games that are worth more than the minimum price, which many are.

So far nota thing worth bragging about. I did get 7 pyrex cups, 8 corelle saucers for $2.00 total. I also got some old bottles for $2.00 (value on ebay 10 total), An old toy electric race track $1.00 (value on ebay $20.00 with what was there). So I think I have some profit but not any games. I purchased a couple of other pyrex contaners but looks as if they are not worth listing (will use here). I will check a couple of sales out tomorrow. Its kinda strange we have more and more sales each week but it seems they are getting worse and worse as far as what they have.
I sold a couple of things from a couple of weeks ago. The electric hair steam currler I paid $0.50 sold for $30.99 and the VideoNow I sold them all for around $5.23 profit. So I think that week was ok.

Does anyone know if there are any generic cables or cables for other systems that work with it?
Like I said if you look at the cable its av standard cable just go to walmart and pick one up they are relativity standard. This is the same cable the Sega Genesis model 2 uses so if you have one you could use this.

It might be different but I don't think it would hurt to try. Unless someone knows better. If the conection fits and the wiring is different I am sure you could make a it work with a little bit of work.

I don't really know anything about values on signed stuff from wrestlers but I would bet they would only really net a few buck and shipping would probably be a killer if you were selling online since it looks to me like they are in some kind of frame.

Red N64 with power supply and Goldeneye - $20
Disney's Party - $5
Tomb Raider Last Revelation - $1
Skate or Die 2 Manual - $free
I paid a bit much for the N64 IMO, but I don't have a red console so I talked the guy down from $35. All I need now is the Gold and the Purple N64s and I'll have all of the colors! I have: Black, Orange, Blue, Green, Smoke, Pikachu and Red now.

I would have paid that for the N64 becouse I don't have one. Nice SoD2 book looks to be in good shape.
LOL, as much as I grew up on the 80's and 80's wrestlers and love me the Sgt Slaughter, and as horrible as it is to say it, I say wait until he kicks the bucket before putting it up on eBay. Can't be too long, what with the way these guys croak from the lifestyle. He's already well over the average pro wrestler lifespan.
ROFLMFAO Yea that might not be a bad idea. I hate to profit off of someones death but hey its a natural thing....I might just do this.

OK today only had one yard sale and it was basicaly a junk yard. I did find 2 64/GC video hock ups that connect to cable type connections I got both for $1.00 but they allowed me to test on one of there systems so I bit. I stoped at a hock shop they had games but only seemed to have sports games and wanted Genesis $4 N64 $6 PS2 $8 I didn't bother checking the others as like I said they only had sports games but I will be watching this place. I did buy a couple of things for eBay one is a Clairol Style Setter for $2 and a Connoisseuirs La Sonic Plus Profetional jewlery cleaner for $0.50. I should be able to make around $13+ profit from these. So not a bad day just didn't get any games for my collection SNIFF SNIFF and I am out of money for the month but going to get some out of PayPal if I find anything good.
EDIT: WHAT AM I THINKING I did pick up a game from St. Viny's it was a plug and play marvil comics game for $2.00 will see if it sells if not I will add to my collection.

Hell yeah, that's a good deal. I don't care if the price has come down a bit, what with the latest re-release for DS and whatnot. I'll always buy them if I see them, if they're $25 and under and in good condition.
Outside of the copy I bought back in the day (and still have, complete), I've found a few, one I paid $5 for (cart only, paid the asking price), another I paid $10 for (cart only, talked down from $25), and another one that came in a bundle I picked up, also cart only, worked out to about $3 or $4 a game, if I remember correctly.

I don't believe I've ever come across a copy of Chrono Trigger, and I've bought and sold a few hundred SNES games since I bought the system new at launch. I've probably owned 20 copies of Zelda, Mario All-Stars, DK Country, etc. though. Find those all the time in the $1 range.

I only paid $35.99 a piece and sold them both on eBay for quite a bit.

When I go through a day of garage saling and thrift checking etc I will sometimes have dreams about finding rare games in the wild, then wake up before I can get them. >_>
Oh man, i can't tell you how many dreams like that I've had...about finding enormous stockpiles of mint and still in original packaging/factory sealed games, toys, old super valuable comics, etc.
Sometimes I dream that I find it in my parents' attic, basement, garage etc. and that I had either forgotten about them, or were Christmas gifts that were forgotten etc. Sometimes it's at a new store I go to that has them just sitting on shelves.
Hell, sometimes I actually buy them all up, then wake up only to find it was only a dream.:cry::cry:

Heh. I remember towards the end of the NES life cycle, around the time I graduated high school in the 90s, the video store I worked at clearanced out all the old NES games for like $5 each, regardless of the game. I wasn't a collector, so I didn't buy any. They were much cheaper at garage sales at the time if I wanted them. Then we got a shipment of brand new/sealed NES games for $9.95 each. This was around the time the N64 came out and no one wanted NES anything. I decided at this point that I would buy a couple games and keep them back sealed, thinking they may be worth something some day. I grabbed Zelda II gold cart and Gauntlet as brand new/sealed. I hung onto them for a couple years before getting bored and putting them in a garage sale, and I sold them for what I paid. When I think back to all of the games I could have had brand new/factory sealed at that time for $9.95 (probably 50 different titles including some fairly obscure ones that came out towards the end of the NES life cycle), it makes me sad.

Yea I know what that's like. I remember early on when I had a few sealed bags of dirt...God made me dump it out so I did. Then he made me release all them cute little animals.....Man If I had only kept some of the Atari games I would have been happy but then again I wish I had got some Microsoft stock while I was at it.
My point is that we ALL FEAL THIS WAY. I am glad you brought it up though its just a slap in our faces just as much as yours. One of the games I remember in the NES that were dirt cheap was mighty bomb jack. I purchased 20 copy's just because it was that cheap. I later used them as clay pigeons, and targets.
EDIT: My finds today not good but not bad only hit 5 sales.

Yea great prices on that xbox and nice score on the GC, did you have to haggle? We want details!
Well, with the lot for $30, I went over and met up with the guy. Nice guy, looked to be about my age or a bit younger (I'm 24). He apologized because apparently he put in the ad that he had a SNES and NES with games, but his mom sold them already.
He then offered me the N64 and GCN stuff for $30, which is a good deal by itself, but I asked if he also had anything else. We scrounged up the Game Gear stuff, Battletoads and the SNES games.
I gave it a hard look and asked, "Well, $30 for everything?"
"Sure."
So I got everything for $30.
It was a good trip, I had my younger brother come with me, he's a decent navigator.
The also neat thing is that when I was there, I ran into a guy I used to work with at Gamestop, turns out he's a friend of the Craigslist seller.
As for the Genesis and Xbox, I didn't have to haggle on either. I tried on the Xbox, but he was firm, which is fine by me at that price.

After buying this, I realized there was no power cord. These are basically impossible to sell without all the cords The trick is to just get a DC adapter and metion it in the auction. Also through in just one game that is not common and the price realy raises.
I am always on the look out when I see power adapters for NES ones.

As far as the question regarding the Disney games I will have to put them back in the system. I cant remember if it was those that had changed old Atari games into a different theme. I will plug it in and try to snap some photos tomorrow.
EDIT: Does anyone know if replacemt video cords are available for these jakks games? I am thining of taking one of the ones that dont work and drilling out the cord area of the stop and just gluing a new cord in place. What do you think? I do have basic soldering skills so sodering is no problem.
Ye0ldmario
03-03-2009, 01:00 PM
I have one of the Atari tv games (the sky blue one with ms. pacman) i bought it like 6 years ago when it came out, I think you can solder on new AV cords if you find a way top open it up.
SaraAB
03-03-2009, 03:27 PM
For your plug N play games, there is probably just a break in the cord or something. I am sure you can patch it with a little solder. These things are made REALLY cheaply on the inside. Also check the contacts going to the battery compartment, as if there is corrosion there the wires can snap off and that can make the games not work as well. Again you should be able to fix that easy if you know how to solder.
The games are set up inside like a basic video game controller (genesis or NES), they have a board, the game chip is on the board and the rubber pads and buttons that you would typically find when opening up a controller.
Um you should just be able to pop them open with screwdrivers by unscrewing the screws, I don't think they take any special kind of screwdriver.
Ye0ldmario
03-03-2009, 04:18 PM
Mine still works like the day I bought it, I remember about 3 years ago me and a buddy played galaga ALL DAY to see who could get the farthest. I do that trick where you let the mothership capture your ship and after you shoot it you get to play double fire power.
Good times! I might crank mine up again someday although the picture looks grainy on my LCD HDTV.
If you have an extra pair of yellow/white AV cables hanging around go for it.

I don't know what they told you to do with them over in the digitpress forums, but I say you should list them on eBay with no pics and sell them to the highest bidder, like the guy who sold them to you did!!! Only this time don't misspell Nintendo! LOL!

Nevermind, I read through the DP thread...I would file a paypal dispute. "AS IS" does not cover the condition they were in. You could also live chat with an ebay rep about the items. I am not sure if they fall under the hazardous materials catagory, but if they potentially have 'toxic mold' on them, you may have an auto win. Put those carts in a zip loc and leave them in it. Clean any surface they have touched in your home.

Anyone ever find a copy of Ninja Turtles hyperstone heist in the wild? I think it was the only ninja turtles genesis game
I have. I picked it up for $4.99 at a PnT.

First contribution to the yard sale thread!
I wasn't planning on going to any sales today, but as I was headed home from lunch, I saw a cardboard sign on a telephone pole: Garage Sale 7-3 PM! So I stopped.
Wasn't expecting any gaming-related items, but there, in the back corner was this:
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9912/1000329n.jpg
Yeah, it has all the hookups (including a random AV cable which was put in the bag by accident I'm sure) and two more controllers. Girl said she wanted $50, but was "looking to just get rid of it," so I CIF'd her $25 and walked away with a perfectly working NES (no blowing required). Yessss!

Ok I don't recall all I got this week becouse I have been bying cheep things thats needed for the house. But as far as game stuff goes I got a GC for $1.00 its lid didnt close and I got that fixed, I have not tested yet as it didn't have any cables/games. It the balck one. I got Addams Family fr the Gen. $0.50 I got some more electric car racing parts I think for $1, A barbie Train set for 0.50 I sold for 20.00. I also got a bunch of other nick nacks (too many to list) and I only spent $15.00 total this week. So not bad especialy when a couple are worth well over $20 on ebay.
EDIT: as I go through all my finds I might mention some other stuff it all got throughn into a pile this week.
I did trade my white 360 wirless controller for a NES Satallite becouse I have wonted one and didnt need the 360 controller.
I also finaly ordered my security bits (I was glad when I got that GC becouse I needed these.

I got out to a church run rummage sale. By the time I got there, it looked like some of the stuff was picked over. I snagged this, though for .50 as noone had tested or known where it came from...

I dropped by a church rummage sale this morning, but didn't see anything good. I did notice a lady scanning CDs with a barcode reader attached to a pda or a smartphone. I hadn't seen that before.
I also went to a 20 family sale in a small town that wasn't to far away. I picked up a Sim Mania Pack (6 Sim games: Sim City Classic, Sim Tower, Sim Isle, Sim Safari, Streets of Sim City, and Sim Copter) and Sonic Action 4 Pack for $2. They also had a big box full of classical CDs. I didn't get any since I really haven't studied it much and don't know what are the better recordings. There are lots of classical CDs out there. I'm mainly interested in quality.

Hey everyone! I did my first yard sale ever today, and made quite a good score I think. I also did my first ever CIF! It was pretty sweet. I don't have my camera on me at the moment, but here is a list of what I got:
NES System with 2 controllers and all cords (it's in perfect condition, no blinking issues at all!)
Games: All in literally perfect shape. Most of them look like they were opened up and stuck in a drawer and never touched until now. Donkey Kong Classics 3, Super Mario 3 (original box & instructions), Skate or Die (original box), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original insctructions), Major League Baseball (original instructions), Duck Tales (original box & instructions), Godzilla 2 War of the Monsters (original box & instructions), Spiderman Return of the Sinister Six (original box & instructions), Zelda Gold Cart, Rampage, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, Cobra Command. For some reason when getting past the main screen on Mario 3 & Super Mario/Duck Hunt none of the buttons on the controllers work. Help anyone?
Super Nintendo in original box with styrofoam (Starfox & Super Mario World edition), 2 controllers, and all cords. Mortal Kombat 2 (original box), Donkey Kong Country (original box), Mortal Kombat 3 (original box), Super Mario World, Starfox, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (original box & instructions, poor condition though), Super Mario All Stars, Mega Man X, Super Punch Out (original box), NBA Jam T.E., Daffy Duck the Marvin Missions, Madden 96 (original box).
Nintendo 64 with 4 controllers (3 gray, 1 blue!), all cords, and all games mint! Madden 99, Mario Golf (box & instructions), Mario Kart 64 (original box), instructions only for Starfox 64.
Here is the breakdown of the pricing before the CIF:
NES: $3
SNES: $5
N64: $10
Each Game: $1
So $45 for everything, I CIF'd $30. He had two PS2 games in the big box too (Madden 08 & GTA III). Took him about 30 seconds whether to decide to take my cash, finally gave in and said everything except the two PS2 games (fine by me), took the cash and it was a done deal. Do you guys think I did alright for my first yard sale?

Hey Darkslime. I can't remember if Vectorman came in the hard plastic cases or if it was one of the later generation games that came in the cardboard boxes, but I believe it was in the original hard black plastic "VHS tape"-like boxes.
If so, to the best of my knowledge from what I remember, these were mostly sealed in a HARDER plastic shrinkwrap (as opposed to the soft thin plastic of NES and SNES factory sealed shrinkwrap) that was really tight at the time, and would probably tighten up even more over time. The seal/seam was usually directly along the line of the case opening, running around the entire case, and usually with a hole created where the tab on the top of the case would stick through.

i know a few years back a KB that closed had tons of sealed vectorman 2s that went until the last day, so it may have also happened again when KB went out of business last year. I know one KB had game for the B&W Tiger handheld (forgot the name and too lazy to go look at mine)
I also saw someone at the flea with the PDA scanner. What is that, a price tracker? Saw someone do that with DVDs and they were pulling out certain ones (mostly animated disney) after scanning.

Otherguy that would be the ill fated and piece of crap known as the GAME.com, I think you can find them pretty cheap on ebay these days. Kudos to you that you still have one.
PDA scanner? That could come in handy...
erehwon
03-15-2009, 02:05 PM
That PDA scanner would come in handy, but I have a feeling that if the sellers saw me using it they would jack the prices up.
I was thinking it would be nice to check on some stuff, but I feel you're likely right about the sellers raising prices. It would also slow me down a little.
One thing I would like to have a pda or smart phone for is having an excel or access database with all my games, books, movies, and CDs. I would like having that with me since I don't like buying duplicates. Unfortunately, the only cheap pda's I've seen are old palm ones.

Well, this sucks. I came into the room to find my cats sitting on top of vectorman 2 clawing it. The shrinkwrap is ripped and now I have a worthless vectorman 2. >_<
I wouldn't worry about that too much. Vectorman 2 is only worth a few bucks sealed and IIRC is still rather common to find sealed online for under $10 shipped. I'm not surprised to hear about somebody seeing it last so long at KB Toys. I remember seeing both of the Vectorman games at TRU years back lasting a while at $5, I even have 2 copies of Vectorman 2 sealed as I accidently bought it twice @ $5 forgetting I bought it probably thinking I only had the first game and not both.
It's like using a copy of SMB/Duck Hunt as a test for something cosmetically on a NES game, now you'll know to keep anything else you have/find sealed hidden from the cats :)

Those pdas seem like they'd make flipping far too easy. I don't want tons of uneducated competition running around mindlessly scanning things and taking all the good stuff away from me. I've actually taken the time to learn what's rare and what isn't, I don't want to be outclassed by a PDA. Sigh, I sound like an old person.
I'm researching these things now. I feel like I have to get one just to stay on the cutting edge.

At least they won't be able to cheat by PDAing any cart only games :D Also using a PDA to scan every UPC on a large selection of items would take up a ton of time to most likely find very little win.

I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread, but here goes:
I Found Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VIII and Resident Evil 3: Nemisis all for the PS1, all black label, and all mint condition at a pawn shop. The Final Fantasy VIII even came with a "mini-walkthrough." Interesting.
I paid $3 for each game. Good deal or no?

Picked up a fat ps2 with a bunch of ps2 and ps1 games for 100.
The stand outs were a complete Tomba and Tomba 2.
Intelligent Qube and Abe's Odyssey without manual.
Games were sadly scratched up a bit.
I already have a Tomba and Tomba 2 so I think I may add those two to my trade list to snag something rare or just ebay to pay for the purchase (along with the other crappy games).

For $3, everything included... but apparently the reviews aren't that great and I don't have a PS2 to test them.
I ended up getting a set of # shaped DVD shelves for $1 a piece. The second rummage sale I hit up was a typical old folks one. I did find two Aladdin coffee mugs with lids which my dad loves and the guy gave them to me for free.

Slim PS2 all complete and in great shape (few minor scratches on top of system)

PS2 games:
Call of Duty 2 Big Red One
Spyro A New Beginning
Battlefield 2
Burnout Revenge
Tony Hawk's Underground
Audiovox 7" portable LCD DVD player (no AC adapter:cry:)
Liar Liar VHS tape
Witness VHS tape
All for $10:)
Bradygames Grand Theft Auto San Andreas guide-.25 cents-probably could have offer a penny and he would have taken it...oh well, it's only a quarter

If you can't find an official one.. it's possible to get a generic one at Radio Shack (used to work there). Find out the wattage and amps needed, go there, and see if any of the tips fit into the driving force pro

Went out real early this morning, emailed a guy in my town about his yard sale, claimed to have N64 stuff, and also SNES stuff he was trying to find in his house. Rolled up on the sale about 20 min ago, he has an N64 (with expansion pak), 12 games all with manuals, 2 controllers (one is yellow! I've never seen a yellow one out in the wild), 2 rumble paks, 2 transfer paks, 1 memory card, 1 tremor pak. The games are:
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Super Mario 64
Mischief Makers
Yoshi's Story
1080 Snowboarding
Star Wars Racer
Pokemon Stadium
Starfox 64
Forsaken
Gex 64
Goldeneye
Zelda Ocarina of Time
It's all in real good shape. No marker or stickers on anything.
Dude also had a lime green Gameboy color with the blue Pokemon cartridge. I didn't get it though, because he said $20 for everything, but I countered with a $10 in the face, he was hesitating and I said "well, I've got about $.75 cents in my pocket", showed it to him and he said "okay, everything except the Game Boy and game. We'll see if a little kid wants it or something." So I got everything except the Game Boy. So I got the whole N64 set for $10.70, I can't complain. He said he would email me if he found the Super Nintendo games, so hopefully if he does he still has the Game Boy too, it was mint, no scratches or anything! If I can get it for like a $1 I'll be happy. The one I have I bought like 10 years ago so it's scratched to shit. Hopefully ya'll have some good finds today.
