Long time reader, first time poster here. I searched and I didn't see this anywhere yet so I thought I'd try and give something back to the community that has saved me so much money.

For whatever reason, Kroger is currently carrying HD DVDs in their bargain bins for 4-8 dollars a pop. I can't remember all of them but the ones I can are as follows:

Accepted
Alpha Dog
An American Werewolf in London
Animal House
Army of Darkness
Balls of Fury
Breach
The Breakfast Club
The Breakup
Children Of Men
Dazed and Confused
Eastern Promises
Elizabeth
Evan Almighty
The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift
Fearlesss
The Good Shepard
Half Baked
Hollywoodland
Hot Fuzz
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
The Kingdom
Miami Vice
Slither
Smokin Aces
Unleashed
You, Me, and Dupree

I'm sure there were more, this is just from memory. If I can remember more, I'll post them. I went to two on the east side of Cincinnati, btw.

Whoa, nice catch. There are definitely some titles I want there. Mind if I ask exactly which locations you saw them, and where in the store? I live in Anderson Township, near the "big Kroger" :)

Thats crazy, I live in Beechmont, right by St. Thomas Moore church. You are only five minutes away! Haha. Anyways, this was at the Eastgate Kroger (by Borders) and the Mt. Carmel Kroger (Old 74). I didn't check the one by Anderson Towne Center or the Amelia location, or for that matter the Mt. Washington Kroger.

Anyways, the two I went to were pretty well stocked on most of them. A few they only had one or two copies of though.

I work at for Kroger and can tell you all that they should be in most stores. They're sitting in a tiny shipper somewhere in each store. They should be located close to the big "Blowout!" bins.

I managed to pick up An American Werewolf in London. It was the only one that interested me out of the selection at my nearest Kroger store. There is one other that I could check. Kroger bought out the scotts stores in my area. I wonder if they would have these HD-DVDs as well?

I've never even seen HDDVDs at my local Kroger. Would they get some even if they've never had any before? I might have to go check when I get off work.

I had never seen any there before either. I'm guessing since they are located in this "Blowout!" bins they bought they cheap after Blu won the war and are just trying to make a quick dollar. Whatever the reason, it worked I picked up about five when I went in.

They are also probably carrying these because the discs are dual-format.

I just got back from a Kroger in Kentucky and they had these HD-DVDs. One thing I've not seen mentioned is that ALL of the available movies are Combo format discs, so they can be played on a standard DVD player as well. I took some photos so I could compile a complete list. I didn't get pricing on all of them, but this is a complete list of everything that was available in my store:

Alpha Dog - $5.99
An American Werewolf in London - $3.99
Army of Darkness - $6.99
Atonement
Balls of Fury
Breach
The Break-Up - $5.99
Breakfast Club - $3.99
Brokeback Mountain - $5.99
Children of Men - $5.99
Dazed and Confused - $3.99
Eastern Promises - $5.99
Elizabeth: Golden Age - $7.99
Evan Almighty - $6.99
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
George Romero's Land of the Dead - $7.99
The Good Shepherd
Half Baked: Fully Baked Edition - $3.99
The Hitcher - $3.99
Hollywoodland
Hot Fuzz - $5.99
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Jet Li's Fearless - $5.99
The Kingdom - $5.99
Miami Vice
Mr. Bean's Holiday
National Lampoon's Animal House - $3.99
The Scorpion King - $3.99
Slither - $5.99
Smokin' Aces
Talk to Me
Unleashed - $4.99
Waist Deep
You, Me and Dupree

Most movies were $5.99, with the high being $7.99 and t he low $3.99. My store did not have Accepted, which is a shame because I wanted to pick that one up.

Edit - Added Brokeback Mountain and pricing on Scorpion King.

I'm all the way down in Lexington. They had several (at least 5 or 6) copies of it though, so I'd be very surprised if other stores didn't have it as well. You may want to just check another store in your area or right across the river?

Nice, I was just about to head to a Kroger in NC to pick up some groceries. I'll check it out and report back!

I checked two others stores in Lexington and neither of them had them out. I spoke to one lady who said the display was in the back and they just haven't put it out yet. So, we may just be getting in on this very early and most stores haven't put them out yet.

I stopped by the Kroger in Independence, KY after I picked up my kid from the babysitter, and they didn't have any. Was going to stop by the Anderson Town Center location but decided to call first-- the person I talked to didn't think they had 'em yet but said there is a truck coming in tomorrow that might bring some in.
I'll try the 2 locations the OP mentioned tomorrow.

Great find!! Over the past few months I pretty much gave up on adding anything to my HD collection, but found Hollywoodland, Tokyo Drift, Breach, & Good Shepard @ my local Kroger in Columbus, OH. The store had a bunch of other stuff already listed in this thread, mixed in with a bunch of regular DVDs. I remember when I paid $34.99 for Miami Vice & Eastern Promises @ Best Buy over a year ago, you win some and lose some...

The Hyde Park Kroger didn't have them yet either, so I went to the Mt. Carmel location the OP mentioned, and-- Great Success! Picked up Dazed & Confused and Half Baked for $3.99 each, and got Hot Fuzz for $5.99.

You're in luck, as it is one of the closer stores to Frankfort. They are definitely in the store on Leestown Rd. near New Circle. They are not (or were not yet as of yesterday) in the stores on the north side of town along New Circle Rd. near Bryan Station and Old Paris Pike. I've not checked the other stores yet.

Also, I went back today and the Leestown Rd. had one copy of Brokeback Mountain that I must have missed yesterday. It was $5.99.

I think I might be able to talk him into getting an HD-DVD player now to put next to his Blu-ray player.

A quick note for everyone. Try not to harass the employees too much. They're not in charge of the shippers. A vendor comes to each store and puts them out. It might be a week or so before they get all of the stores so be patient.

A quick update on the Lexington, KY area Kroger locations.

New Circle and Bryan Station Rd. - No HD-DVDs
New Circle and Old Paris Pike - No HD-DVDs
Georgetown, KY - HAS HD-DVDs
Leestown Rd. near New Circle - HAS HD-DVDs (see my list above compiled at this store)
Beaumont Circle (off Harrodsburg Rd.) - HAS HD-DVDs
Alexandria Dr. - HAS HD-DVDS, listed below:

Accepted
Alpha Dog
Balls of Fury
Breach (3 copies)
The Break-up
Children of Men (2 copies)
Eastern Promises (3 copies)
Elizabeth: Golden Age
Evan Almighty (2 copies)
Hollywoodland (2 copies)
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (3 copies)
Jet Lee's Fearless
Miami Vice
Mr. Bean's Holiday (4 copies)
Slither
Talk to Me
Unleashed

Except where noted, they only had one copy of each. Some of those are common elsewhere (Balls of Fury) but others are pretty hard to find so far around Lexington (The Break-Up) and so far this is the only place I've seen Accepted in Lexington (I bought one copy, one is still there).

Also, Jughead, it was nice meeting you. Sorry I didn't notice the PM you sent, but good luck finding the movies you want. Hopefully everything you needed was still at the Leestown Rd. store.

The Kroger in Commerce, Michigan had the bin. Last week I noticed it shopping but didn't stop. After reading this thread I made my way there this weekend. They had moved the bin (to the front of the store near the self checkout) but there were HD-DVD's in there.

I picked up Children of Men, Balls of Fury, Miami Vice, Eastern Promises, The Kingdom and Land of the Dead. All of the above were $5.99 aside from Land of the Dead which was $7.99. I would have passed on Land of the Dead at $8 if I noticed it earlier. I passed on Army of Darkness at $8, while I love the movie I have the DVD and the picture quality isn't A++ to begin with.

I noticed, from memory: Atonement, Breach, Fast and the Furious 2... quite a few others.

There was also a Boomtown Season 1 set (looked like 4+ disc set, standard DVD tho) for $7.99.

the bin was really hard to miss once i found it...it looks like it has to be moved with a forklift or one of those palate movers. I'm guessing the stores put it wherever they can

I would've probably bought more had my conscience not been in the store with me...my wife has been really helping my impulse-buying lately. I went in planning to get half baked and that's what i left with heh.

Two of the Kroger's in Macon, Ga had the displays set up. The one on Hartley Bridge Road had a few titles, and the one in the Best Buy shopping center off Eisenhower Pkwy. had a pretty decent selection.

Also, I don't know if this is true anywhere else, but at these stores, the HD discs were in a display mixed with a bunch of regular DVDs, and if I hadn't moved a bunch of the regular DVDs, I probably wouldn't have seen the HD-DVDs.

I hit a couple of Krogers yesterday, but only picked up standard DVD sets (Moonlighting s3 and s5, K Street, and Unscripted). I've found plenty of the HD-DVDs, but I've already watched most of them, and I don't feel the need to have them in my collection. I'd probably get American Werewolf in London and Animal House if I found them, though.

Has anyone seen any seasons 1&2 (1 set), or 4 of Moonlighting at Kroger? I'd love to complete the set for cheap, but I'd rather not go out searching unless I know there is a chance of finding them.

There were other standard DVD sets too:
Boomtown s1 (already have it)
Angels in America (already have it)
Mind of the Married Man s1 (considered it, but have only seen 1 episode)

Another one that I thought was a season of Providence or Judging Amy or something like that, but probably wasn't, based on my searches of amazon, ddd, and half.com. I'm pretty sure it was purple, if that helps ;). Anyone find other season sets?

Mind of The Married Man is pretty good. I got it at Big Lots awhile back for $3. It's sorta like Sex & The City from a man's point of view. The only thing is there was a season 2 and they never released it on dvd.

Yeah, it's Providence. It's a collection of the best twelve episodes-- I passed on it for that reason. Then again, it is 4.99 so maybe I will try it.

I've picked up everything pretty much that people have listed as far as the boxsets go and passed on season 2 of Missing. I thought about it because Vivica Fox is fine, but then IMDBed it on my phone and saw what people rated it. Add me to the person wondering if the Kroger stores are selling the other two boxsets of Moonlighting-- luckily the first two seasons are in one set, and then there's season 4... but yeah only thing I've been able to buy is season 3 and season 5.

One Fry's I went in was running a badass clearance sale. Everything in the bin was 1.00. I picked up Coldplay's Viva la Vida album, Pauly Shore is Dead, a Yu-Gi-Oh DVD, and a few other randoms. Also managed to snag every HD I wanted on the list. Wound up with about 20 of them. I probably overdid it, but I did use flip money (GS credit into Wii Fits that sold on Craigslist for 100 a piece.)

Everything was very well displayed along the wall at least for HD DVDs. They had several but not every HD DVD that was on the list. The wife wasn't with me so my instincts got the best of me, so I think I ended up spending a bit more than I planned.

Picked up:
Breach
Children of Men
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (For the wife, perhaps she'll forgive me)
Hot Fuzz (Tons & Tons of Bonus features definitely a must have)
The Kingdom
Land of the Dead (Already own the DVD but I like George A. Romero)
Smokin' Aces

It's funny I didn't own a single HD-DVD other than King Kong up until this sale and now I have over 10.

Just ask at Customer Service which department would be in charge of DVDs (it's most likely GM now (General Merchandise)) see if a staff member in that department is working... ask them about the big display it's 4' x 4' of discounted DVDs and HDVDs, most staff members do not realize HDVDs are in the display...
and YOUR WELCOME to the Kings/Krogers members...
Grocery stores are Very easy to approach and ask for help...I grew up in grocery retail...who knows ...IF the display is still in the back (doubtful but possible) you might find yourself in the backroom finding the titles you want...tell em your sis works from Krogers in the Rockies....;)

Finally found a Blow Out bin at the Ralphs in Granada Hills, CA (Devonshire + Balboa) in the back of the store near the pharmacy.

They still had around 20-30 HDDVDs, lots of the same stuff that I just bought at the Amazon/Closeoutmovies sale (argh!). I picked up Eastern Promises (Wish I hadn't, the disc fell out of the holder and is a bit scuffed on the HD-DVD side, not sure if it'll play and what their return policy will be) and Accepted. I saw Elizabeth:Golden Age (7.99), Miami Vice, Hollywoodland, Hot Fuzz, Children of Men (?), and some assorted others.

The bin was kind of falling apart and lots of movies seem to have fallen in and underneath it but I didn't feel like tearing the bin apart to see what treasures might lie underneath.

Were the playback issues with Children of Men ever addressed? I am debating going back to pick it up (not sure why I put it back, honestly) but it sounds like a lot of players don't like it.

An interesting note is that I was in Albertsons and saw the same exact style of "Blow Out Bin OMG SAVINGS" that the Kroger brand stores have been using. Unfortunately, they did not have any HD-DVDs (or DVDs at all), but seemed to have the same books Kroger was selling in those bins. A small possibility that Albertson's may have DVDs or start rolling them out soon, who knows.

:bouncy::applause::whee:FINALLY!!!:shock:\\:D/:beer:
Kroger's @ 9835 Fall Creek Rd., Indianapolis (79th St & Fall Creek Rd. intersection) has them, all combo disc.

EDIT: The bin is somewhat hidden within the books, cds & dvd section in the front of the store. If you are facing this section, the bin is on the left closest to the self checkout terminals.

$3.99
Dazed & Confused
Half Baked

$5.99
Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated)
Hot Fuzz
Eastern Promises

More than I should have gotten, but whatever.

Multiple copies of other titles available at that store that I can remember off the top of my head:

Children of Men
Miami Vice
Hollywoodland
The Kingdom
Breach

No problem, if you happened to go into the normal Fry's, let me know if they put a bin out yet. Otherwise, Marketplace across the way has a decent selection, but none of the 3.99 titles AFAIK.

FYI, I went to the Ray and Rural location today. They had re-stocked or added to the collection. I was there on wednesday and they didn't have much to pick from. This time they had most of the ones previously mentioned. The Hitcher and Dazed and Confused for 3.99 were ones that I looked for earlier in the week and they now had.

Went to kroger in Monroe, OH. They had a bunch. Took a pic http://twitpic.com/178ws The pic shows one or two of each, but there were many more of each. Except for The Kingdom I got the only one.

I got

Army of Darkness
Alpha Dog
Children of Men
The Kingdom
Smokin' Aces

Being more of a Gamer Bargain Hunter, I was bridged over to the HD DVD clearance frenzy about a year ago through the 360 player. Since then, I've gathered about 60+ movies of the stuff I want. I'd get a random movie here and there on Craigslist, but now I stumble into this thread after ignoring it for too long. Kroger? Really? I've got 2 within five miles of me. Cheap HD DVD's...stop calling me.

The bin in the Ann Arbor Krogers is pretty picked over (it's been more than two weeks since I first saw it, after all); has anyone noticed a restock at any location, or was this a single push that will not be refreshed?

Finally found these in my area! The Olive Branch kroger (the one just off the interstate) has the HD DVDs on a shelf above the DVD display near the Pharmacy.

They were pretty picked clean once I was done, but I estimate they had about 20 HD DVDs left total. May be worth another look in a week or so...

I managed to grab for $5.99 each:
Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift
Slither
Hot Fuzz
The Kingdom
Hollywoodland

Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah I forgot my wife's card so I had to sign up for one of my own. I also found out that if you misplace your card you can type in you're phone number on the key pad before you begin the sale. This will take place of you're card and give you the additional discounts.

Not necessarily need to know info, but it would've saved me some time since I didn't have my wife's card handy.

For a time I really wanted to pick up Army of Darkness on HD-DVD, then I read the reviews. Even the most barebones version of AoD on DVD almost has more features that the HD-DVD version. I'm a huge fan of AoD, but I just can't bring myself to pick it up. I just don't think it does it justice.

Just FYI, at Ralph's in Granada Hills (CA), the movies are 75% off **with your Club card** through 2/17! They were apparently picked over (no movies obviously out) but the last time I was there, a LOT had fallen between the cracks in the cardboard. I didn't feel like digging before, but today, being a shameless CAG I pulled up the panel (at the bottom) and dug out about 10 HDDVDs and picked up 7 of them (and wish I had thought to chuck a few under the box!):

Mr. Bean's Holiday - $1.50
Elizabeth: TGA - $2
Balls of Fury - $2 (disc was a floater but doesn't look toooooo scratched up, keeping my fingers crossed-- the only other one they had sounded to be a floater too)
Jet Li's Fearless - $1.50
You Me & Dupree - $1.50
Alpha Dog - $1.50
Chuck & Larry - $2

7 HDDVDs for under $14 out the door was too good to pass up, despite the fact I really didn't need all of them. Standards get pretty low at <$2 pricing. I actually only had 3 at first, thinking they were 50% off-- the cashier was blown away when I got the first 3 (as was I)-- he had told me they were priced as marked and wouldn't come down with a Ralph's club card (the look on his face was priceless)-- so I raced back to get all the rest of the movies that I didn't already own. The second cashier asked me "Are these the bluetooth?" uhm, not really.. the first cashier actually came over when he was done to watch me get 4 more movies at $1.50-$2, it was driving him crazy. (And he tried to explain the difference between HD-DVD and Bluray but was excited since these were combos so it didn't matter)

There is 1 Balls of Fury, 1 Accepted, and 1 Children of Men left (At least). There may be more that fell inside the box. ;) I stopped digging when I got a nasty paper cut-- decided it was time to leave!

Said what the hell and bought Boomtown two days ago. When the kid scanned it, it asked for a price, he went to enter the sticker, I said, "These were half price the other day." Just so happened the manager was bagging at that register and he told the kid that they were indeed halfprice. Tried to buy some in Kingsport, TN last Sunday and they rang up full price and were very well stocked so some locations may have come to the party late and leaving later as well.

What titles did you see at TJ Maxx?

Haven't checked it out yet, but I'm speculating that it may be similar to Kroger is supplying.

I was at Kroger today and this movie bin was marked as everything was 50% off of marked price so it has begun again. Too bad they only had slither, talk to me, and waist deep for hddvd. They had a bunch of good regular dvds like Maverick and Hancock and the Friday movies (although the first is by far the best), and a bunch of junk like the original Fun with Dick and Jane and ER Season 9. WTF am I gonna do with ONLY season 9.

Too bad for Slither? Hopefully it's bad because you already own it, as the movie itself is classic campy horror at its finest.

Has anyone confirmed if they resurfaced in Fry's? (I know Kroger's got some)

I hope so too because Slither is far better then either Maverick or Hancock.

I think he means Fry's Food & Drug

They're owned by Kroger.

Yep, Fry's Food and Drugs. I got in on the first round on HD DVDs, but I haven't checked during this second run (sounds like I'm too late anyhow)

That explains why that weird Fry's logo is on the back of my Kroger Plus Card.

Also, the bin @ mine actually got restocked?!?!?!?!?!?

I found Amer. W.W. in London & The Break-up in the newly restocked bin (at the 1/2 price discount price :bouncy:).

I  that if I hit some FOOD4LESS stores in Chicago this weekend, they'll have a bin.

Went to a couple Food 4 Less(part of Kroger) stores in the Chicagoland area this weekend, but found *0* :hd:

But it wasn't a complete waste. I got Krush Groove and Barry Gordy's Last Dragon DVDs for $4.94 each.
