Damn, it was fun. At first I was wondering how they could pull off the game being fun when you're not in the mob or the one, but they whole points thing worked really well. And now I got like 70 sweepstakes entries.

hmm... they mention mall of America numerous times in the commentary or documentary, which are both really awesome... maybe they were referring to it for something else totally different. It just stuck in my head from it.
The best part though is the studio wanted to "cast" Jay... and had guys like Seth Green reading for the part of Jay... hilarious shit.

I don't think it has anything to do with what time you get on. I was on 10 minutes early, set a reminder, and still couldn't get into a game. People who signed on after me could, however.

Just go to the XBox Primetime sometime before the show tomorrow and see if anything has to download (it will do it automatically just check your download queue once you enter.) I did that before Monday night's episode and was able to get in 5 minutes before start and I was in there for the entire 2 hours.

I had fun in the beta on Monday, I love trivia even though I suck at anything related to famous people or pop culture. But there were some video game questions scattered within the trivia set, which was refreshing and made it a whole lot more fun than your standard bunch of questions. Tomorrow night they're doing a special quick E3 edition beta where it'll be questions only regarding E3 which I set a reminder for. I believe it said 10:30pm EST. Too bad you don't really get any prizes during the beta, even though they're shown during the game.

They need to do some late matches for PST :bomb: If they keep this schedule when it goes live, I'll never get to play it.
Also, when they said the first "season" was going to be free for gold members...they didn't mean this beta, did they?

Didn't get a chance to attend the one on Monday, but will be on Saturday. From what I've seen, there were some issues with entering. Hoping that won't occur when it comes tomorrow.

I feel your pain, I don't get off work till 11pm EST. Just when most of these will be ending. I've sent a few emails suggesting a later PST version so west coasters and 2nd shifters can get more involved. I ended up getting last monday off and played and it was alot of fun so hopefully something changes.
How hard would it be to do a rotating schedule of east then west coast? Say 10pm both coasts making it 7p/1a on the opposite coasts if you want to play every day. This would be more fair while letting more people experience it.

It looks like there are going to be two sessions of the E3 trivia tonight. I see one show set to start at 10:00 and another at 10:30. Are these only going to be 30 minutes, or do we think they'll be going on simultaneously, thus allowing twice as many people to play? I'm pretty sure MS already confirmed they'd be expanding the cap. I'm really curious to see how things go tonight. Hopefully super smooth! :)

It's interesting I guess. I liked the E3 Extended Play version, but there were a bit too many breaks in that it felt like. Should be reduced by about half I think.
Since I joined late in the first E3 set, I didn't place very high. Although I got 30 out of 37 right (never passed) in the second E3 set. Placed me in the top 600 or so, which was nice.

In Extended Play everyone is in the Mob and there is no One. No one gets eliminated and you just keep answering questions to try to build the largest streak and get the most points.
Chris also isn't there to provide his 2 minutes of "witty" banter every half hour or whatever it is. It seems like he hardly speaks.
FriskyTanuki
06-07-2009, 02:26 AM

I actually got to play this tonight. I'm a trivia geek... so I had a blast! I just wish the questions weren't all so pop-culturey.
I really like how they put you in the groups of 4, out in the crowd... so you're still driven to be competitive.
I wonder if the extended play sessions increase your rep so you're more likely to be chosen to be the one or to be in the mob? Or is it just supposed to be for fun?
dembesum
06-07-2009, 05:31 AM
Yeah, the extended play adds more points so you're more likely to be in the Mob. I'm not completely sure how the system works, but it's like how much points you have and a little bit of randomness.

Played last night and thought it was pretty good. The pace of the show does need to be a little faster though.....the ad breaks need to be either shorter or actually entertaining in some way. Just staring at a sprint logo for a minute straight really isnt cutting it.
I couldnt get out of the crowd the entire night and the point system seems kinda strange to me. No matter what I did I would somehow still get crushed by like 3 or 4 thousand points from the highest guy.
I once had a round where I got every question right, instant answered most of them and was a full 10 thousand points above the rest of the people in my section of the crowd. When I went to the score screen I was 2nd in the round. Then at the end I was all of a sudden 10th with the top 10 guys scoring in the 30 thousands (I think I had like 23).
But its a beta and I think its pretty fun. Dont know if I would pay for it though.

I've got a theory about this. So far, just from the Live shows on Monday and last night, there have been at least 2 Canadians chosen to be "the one". Does anybody else think that maybe since their beta started first, it's easier for them to get chosen because they've already been accumulating points from the extended play sessions? I don't really have any evidence to support the theory, but it seemed plausible.

Played all sessions yesterday to earn up points, the E3 Trivia was nice in the Extended Play, but damn they was pulling questions out that I know wasn't even a part of E3 and was stumping the hell out of me, lol Still I know I ranked up a good amount of points, hopefully here really soon i'll be in the Mob or hopefully the one!
As for joining the mob, the more points you have under your belt in overall play will determine your chance to be The One or in The Mob, so newbies who just started, forget about it, keep playing in the Crowd or play the Extended Play events and rank your points up fast! This whole week I do believe they are throwing a lot of Extended Plays out there to help you build up for it!

I thought the questions in the extended play was too easy. Only one that I used a skip on was the "which day does the GamerChix play on?"
The extended play parts, Cashman wasn't live. All of those segments were pre-recorded.
I had a blast playing but I don't know if I could play that again for the full three hours.
Interesting in that there was at least 95 thousand people on at any given time. If that number keeps hovering around that or improves, I wonder how much Microsoft is going to rake in on advertising? Thats a big number of people and if it stays steady, I could conceivably see Microsoft scrap plans on charging people to play the game.

This is what's truly impressive. It could conceivably get to the point where it's competing with mainstream media in that timeslot. I mean, right now, 100,000 viewers would only pull a Nielson rating of .087. But that's against every TV in America (and not factoring TVs not even in use at that time).
If you pulled a "Nielson" rating for just the number of 360s in existence, you'd get a far more impressive number. There are about 11.6 million Xbox 360s in the United States and 870,000 in Canada. That's a total of 12.47 million. So, with 100,000 people on last night, that gives you a rating of 0.8 (or almost 1%) Again, this doesn't take into account 360s that were not in use at that time.
Yes, those numbers aren't great by any means. But considering that this was only the 2nd live show, and that there was still probably a good amount of people who couldn't get in, it definitely has potential to expand and MIGHT even stand a chance to cut into the television market a little bit. I can't wait to see how this thing grows, and what other games will be added down the road. :)

I played this again last night and had a lot of fun like the last time. This game is definitely my cup of tea so I will be playing it every chance I get. And I was like 200 points off the top 10 and 300 points from 3rd place or something like that last night. Hopefully I will be able to do good during the real game and win some prizes!

Depends on how many new Live subscriptions this creates. I mean, yeah, advertisers might support much of it, but I think Microsoft has to see some kind of return on their end as well. Honestly, this could get moms, whose kids already have a 360, to sign up for their own Live account just so they can play. The logic to them would be $50 a year to play 1 vs 100. It's not unreasonable.

What am I doing wrong? I wanted to try this, punched in a 48 hour code, asked to "schedule" the newest one (6pm central), and (without telling me) it started downloading a 46MB file.
I may not have had that file finished downloading before the 6pm session started, and maybe that was the problem? But...I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. it popped up a notice that it was starting soon (about 3 minutes after 6), but...I can't see any way to launch the program.
It's not listed in my games section, and on the 1 vs. 100 section it just has a "download" button for the current game, which gives the message "Can't complete this download. Please try again later."
Which...huh? What am I supposed to be doing to play this?
FriskyTanuki

Okay seriously, what the hey am I supposed to do? I got another notice that it's starting soon, and then it tells me it's finished downloading it (even though it finished over 30 minutes ago and already gave me that notice).
And...nothing. Just says "download" on the 6 or 6:30pm shows, and gives that same worthless error message.
EDIT: Okay, I deleted 1 vs 100, and now it's downloading a 30MB file called "General Trivia" or something. This is messed up.

Extended play really sucks in the sense that if you want to be anywhere near the top 10, you need a perfect (and fast) round. It's nearly impossible. Sure, I'm getting points, but it's hard to remember why, haha.
EDIT - Ah, yeah, I'm out. I played for 3 hours last night, and couldn't sit through more than an hour tonight. The live shows are really great, but extended play is the polar opposite. Without any of the perks of the regular game, it almost feels like taking a test, lol. And for a competitive person, the fact that missing one question puts you at least 5,000 points back is infuriating (I was within 300 points of the top 10 for the first 12 questions).
I really hope they've got some kind of system in place for how often you can be in the mob or be the one, because the way some of these droids are playing this every session, every night, there's no way the majority of the population will be able to compete. It blows my mind that some people are routinely answering 100% of the questions correctly. Some of those got really tough tonight.

Except you can play MP games which silver can't. Just not 1 vs 100 I guess because MS is being wankers about it. I put in a trial code too and I get the same download problem.

It would be more interesting to me to use the entire mob to see who can last until the end of the show, if anyone at all, instead of just showing how many people missed each question.
I'd love that as well, but some of the questions were slaughtering people tonight. I think it may make for a far more interesting game but it would probably end up frustrating a large swath of players, especially those who get nailed with something particularly nasty.

yea I definitely remember that wasp question from saturday, and that was the only day that I played.
The question was worded differently. The first night it was "Something, something, and velvet ants are all types of..."
X: cockroaches, A: wasps, B: ants
The second time, the question was "Velvet ants are a type of what?" X: wasps, A: something, B: something
(I didn't look at the other answers because I knew what it was)
There are, without a doubt, many similar questions on the same subject. But I've yet to see a straight up, 100% repeat.
Oh, also, to archibishopthedoge, the live shows and extended play are different like night and day. I've actually stopped playing the extended play the last few nights (didn't play at all last night) because after awhile, it begins to feel pointless.
It's like taking a deck of Trivial Pursuit cards and going through answering the questions without playing the actual game. Catch one of the shows on Friday or Saturday night. You'll notice a huge difference.

So the points with the blue icon would that be points to buy things in the marketplace if it was not in beta? I have seen that icon in the past and thought it was something that gave me MS points to buy things. I stopped playing befor that number question came up or maybe I got in after that.
Anyway when it has 2 or 3 other people at the top of the screen next to your icon what is that? I noticed I got a star under my name then they came up. After that someone else got the star and we were all around the same amount of points. I could see me really getting into this when it comes out.

I doubt that they're plants or they would probably do a bit better than missing the first question or using a help on the first few questions.
With ~110k in attendance, your chances of being picked for The One or The Mob are pretty slim. If there were say 15 games played during the two hour session with 110,000 people around, you'd have a 1.3% chance of being picked for either. I'm not sure how much playing in the extended play episodes at all helps, but the canned Chris speech mentions that it does help make it easier for you to get picked. I'd like to see the stats of the people that get picked, as far as how much of 1 vs 100 they've played, so we could see how much they play 1 vs 100 to be picked at all and if it's just luck or not.

I thought about this too. Considering that canned Chris states that your chances to be picked for the one or the mob are based on your lifetime score (which is influenced by your extended play sessions, your speed, and your accuracy), I have a hard time believing that anybody with a gamerscore from 0-400 plays their 360 enough to meet any of that criteria. Much less, somebody who has to use a help on the very first question.
The other question I have is how frequently you can be picked for the one or the mob. As the weeks go by, the "super nerds" who play every extended play session and dominate the live shows are going to separate themselves from the "normal people". This would lead you to believe that this elite group of people will get to be in the mob all the time, or be chosen as the one. I really enjoy the live shows, but I've played a fair amount and have a score of about 1,023,000...and I've never gotten out of the crowd. Last I checked, the top scorer had surpassed 4,000,000. How the hell are "regular people" going to even have a chance in this game?

They reset the "advantage" you get from the Extended Play shows every week, so you'd have to be consistently be playing every single show and have great luck to appear in the 101 that are picked each time all that often. I can't imagine that the bump in chances is all that great to overcome 100,000 others that are also in the mix for The One or The Mob.

That's what frightens me. As much as I enjoy the show, in its simplest terms, it's basically "Miss a question and you die!". Once you miss a single question, you're most likely done for the night. It's still a great time to be had playing with friends and making fun of the questions/answers ("overly horny" anybody? haha). But from a competitive standpoint, this game is more brutal than Halo.

Hell, you don't even have to miss. Hesitate to answer, or use a skip, and you'll fall 10-20,000 points behind. As did I! Has there been any info on how large each room is? I'm curious what the actual odds are to make it into the mob. Not that I have played 1v100 alot but, if there's going to be some sort of dedication on the users part to gain points each week in extended play in order to get a halfway descent chance in making it into the mob, than I'm not sure I'll be down paying for the seasons if I'm always going to be in the crowd. this whole game is getting pretty stupid imo. they should just release it as a xbla game with 101 players in each room so you can actually play in the mob or the one. its a fun game, but its pretty useless if youre just in the crowd.
I agree. This was my third night of playing this and it is getting kind of boring. You can use process of elimination on all the questions as the other answers are blantly obvious wrong. It would be better if they actually put in other choices that would confuse you.
I still wonder how some of these people put in their answers that fast.
I have yet to get into the 101 but I think you have to be a person that misses a bunch in order to get into the Mob since it seems they miss some of the dumbest questions i.e. the earth makes a rotation is how many?. It seems some people are lucky since the Conan O'Brien looking avatar guy got to play the 1 and on the Mob.
I did find it funny that "the brain" on one of the saves guessed "that mclovin guy". One of those blantly wrong answers.

What I found ironic was the fact that last night, the host read an email from somebody saying that one of the people chosen to be "the one" looked like Conan O'Brien, and then tonight, there were several who looked like Conan. I'm really not buying the "the more you play, the better your chances for getting picked" line. There's just far too many stupid or casual (gamerscore wise) players being selected.
Oh, and one more thing...FUCK that mutantdog guy for always being at the top of the list! Nerdy Canadian asshole, lol

There is either some kind of cheat or this game is rigged right now. The top leaderboards always gets a boost to put them beyond a realistic score. One game yesterday I didnt miss one question and had an average of under 1 second per answer. Im not saying that should get me top 10, but I was like 200 points behind the top 10 when the last question came up. After that question came up I wait for the updated results to see if I somehow finally made it, then I see that I am now 5000 points behind them. They are giving/getting some kind of bonus.

Even though I didn't play yesterday's episode, I've played the others, and this one is the worst, in terms of quality and the questions asked. Chris Cashman was disconnected at least 3 times. It was just pretty crappy.

I can't be the only one, but seriously, that Mutant Dog guy looks like Fredo Corleone.
Finally got to try this tonight, just happened to see that it was on while I was playing Gears 2, and honestly I had a lot of fun with it. The best part though had to have been the host ripping this "The One" guy apart for choosing the Money over the Mob when there where only 4 people left. Apparently not many/nobody has beaten the mob yet, and if he had continued on he would have been first.

CT is on the list of states that aren't allowed to play and win "skill-based prizes" along with IA, MD, VT and Quebec.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/1vs100/rules.htm
You can play now in the Beta because it's a sweepstakes and not "skill-based prizes" but once the real game starts, we technically won't be allowed to play. Now whether they'll actually block us from playing or just say we can't play is yet to be seen.

It tells you if you're in the crowd, mod, or the one before every game. You can still play if if you're in the audience, and it's almost no different than being the one or the mob, because you don't win anything right now. (Beta)

I thought of this, but in a round about way, it makes the game even more pointless. If you're eliminating competition among your small group of 4 by sharing answers, the only reason you're playing is out of the small hope that ONE of you will eventually get picked to be in the 101. I think if you're that desperate, you might as well find something else to play.
After last night, I'm 100% convinced that their alleged "formula" for choosing the 101 is bullshit. No way would so many people in the lower hundreds of gamerscore (last night had a "one" with a GS of 120) play this game enough to give them a favorable chance of being picked.
And if anybody noticed, the numbers have been dropping since a week ago. Last night, the highest total I saw playing was 76,000. The most I've ever seen was 110,000 (last Friday possibly?) That's a pretty big drop for only one week. Between the 500 sweepstakes entry limit and always being put in the crowd, I think people are starting to get turned off by the game. As much as I liked it at first, I think it's grown stagnant.
I can't imagine them doing this for another 5-6 months until they open the game up officially. They need to come clean about the real selection process, or totally revamp it by having multiple mobs at a time (have the "one" square off against one group, and let the other groups compete amongst themselves for prizes). If they just leave it as is, I don't think anyone will be willing to pay to sit in the crowd week after week.

It may be due to the immense amount of shows they're doing now. The past few weeks had Extended Play during the off days and the big show were the stars, but they had Extended Play episodes before the big show yesterday. That probably burnt some people out or confused them since I also got on and was disappointed that it wasn't a full show, so I decided to play something else until the big show started an hour and a half later. They should keep it simple and have Extended Play on off days and let the live shows be the stars on the weekend.

Yeah, good point. I agree with that too. They really only need to have 20 extended play sessions each week. ie. 4 per night, Sun-Thu. Then have the live shows on Friday and Saturday. That's plenty of trivia for everyone.

was 54,000 tonight. not sure i will pay for this game there are people who cheat out there and those are the ones that will win the chances of a person like me getting in slim to none. I have a average of about 1 second or less on time, played ass loads of shows both live and extended play and have a 60% accuracy. then you get some assclown up there that can not answer the first question? or 50 missed the phone question? give me a break

I've played a few times, but I agree with evilmojo12542, I wouldn't pay a dime to play this. Too slow and too cheesy.

Eh, it's not revolutionary but it isn't too bad. I've only played a total of 3 times and did get into the mob once. I wouldn't pay to play, only if it was free as a gold member I might from time to time.
I noticed the questions were much easier in live play than nearing the middle or end of extended play. Oddly enough the question about toxoplasmosis I had just learned about in one of my classes.
Wonder if they can find a way around resetting everything when The One disconnects? I don't see how anyone could have enough time to Google the questions, but obviously if you play in a group, whether in person or through voice, you'd have a lot more heads to work with and get a lot more correct answers.

All through the game this evening, I had a yellow symbol in my name bar that I'd never noticed before, but I couldn't tell what it was... Does anyone know?

Yellow symbol on the left means you're the leader (highest score in your group). The shields on the right are skips, so you prolly were the leader. Congrats!

I was pretty sure that the leader star actually appears under your picture, though if they moved it, it might make since, especially since I was the only one in my group all night (Which was also kinda weird). Since it was the live game, it wouldn't have been skips.
I kinda wish I had snapped a picture of it. It was a little yellow symbol on the right side of the green name bar at the very top. Looked like something with a diagonal line slashing through it. I wondered if it meant I had somehow gone private, but I double checked and made sure I was set to public. Weird...

Well I'm sure interest will pick back up when we can actually win points and such.

Hey, I've been having some trouble getting into the beta. Could someone send a reminder for tonight's game to "Living Corp" please? See if that will help.
Much appreciated.

Did you have a mic? Was it muted by chance?
Behind your name there's a bar, it looks like as you get questions right that bar fills up, although it's very faded and difficult to see; and when you get one wrong, it the bar empties. Anyone know what that bar does?

It represents your streak I believe. You get bonus points for each consecutive correct answer and how full the bar is represents how high your streak is. When you get one wrong it empties and the bonus starts over.
