I appologize if there is already a thread like this.
I just thought it would be interesting to see just how valuable this site really is to us. And I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank Cheapy, Wombat, and the CAG community for saving me hundreds last year. If it were not for CAG, I would not have even 25% off the games/movies that I have now. So when Cheapy wants to spend big money on Expensive head phones, I say Go For it man. You deserve it.
For me personally:
$175 in paypal thanks to Ebay/live.com cashback thread.
$80 thanks to Radioshack clearance thread (MGS4 and Ratchet).
$150+ thanks to many HD-DVD/Blu Ray sales threads.
$250+ thanks to Target clearance and several other limited time threads.
ninja II-14.98, GHAerosmith 24.98, GHWT 19.99, HSG out of bounds 19.99. Rainbow Vegas 2 9.98, PS3 dual shock 3 29.99, and at least 10-20 more titles.

If this should be posted elsewhere, the Modders can move it where ever they feel it belongs.

CAG saved me a ton, but it also cost me ton because I bought a bunch of stuff I otherwise wouldn't have. :)

You save money when you buy something like gas or groceries or do your taxes a particular way. CAG cost me money because I bought lots of video games I otherwise would not have considered. That having been said, assuming I was going to buy all the games I ended up getting at their usual price, I probably saved around $150.

Agreed! But, now there is the ever growing backlog of wonderful games that I need to play. (^_^)

Actually cag is good site to save money on videogames, but I actually ended up spending more money on cheap games then ever before.

Where is the option for making money because of CAG?

Wrong forum notwithstanding...
I think I probably balance out at zero somewhere. I save a lot, but it makes me spend more than I otherwise would, too. If I didn't have CAG, I wouldn't buy much; but with CAG, at least I get stuff for cheap! :)

Last year I wasn't on CAG much - but it did save me a ton on Christmas gifts and just in the last two days I have gotten 11 $20 games from Bigfish for free thanks to CAG! That's $220 there! I know the MSRP of those games is inflated, but still - great savings to be had.

Wow. I start a thread trying to thank Cheapy, wombat and my fellow CAGers, and the majority of you seem to be intent on saying that the site "Cost" you more money than you would have spent, instead of being thankful for now having a nice back log of games.
To you people I say this. With the economy where it is right now, the gaming industry is not immune. I have a feeling this will not be a good year for gamers and gaming. Be happy that you have a nice back log of titles to go to. Because there may not be many "must have" games to pick up this year and next.

I disagree. I predict a record year for the Video Games industry. When folks don't have money they don't go out. But they still need entertainment.
That being said, CAG certainly didn't "save" me any money. I bought a ton of games that I probably never would have heard of.
However certain threads have certainly helped to offset those expenditures and in the end I'm probably + in the cash/credit department.

If they don't have money they won't be able to afford games either. And I agree, I blew a bunch of money I otherwise wouldn't have put on gaming so CAG didn't really save me anything.
$0 since I ended up buying more stuff than if I never visited the site.

Well then I guess instead of thanking Cheapy, you should all hate his guts. Or you should just have a better will power.
Sucks to be you.

Yeah - that I spent more because of it mentality is a bit negative I think. For example - I had been wanting to pay stalker for a while - never got it - waited on it - probably would have never bought it at the retail price 20 bucks. Saw it here on the steam thread for 4.99 and bought it. So should I say I saved 15 bucks on a game or should I fault CAG because I spent 4.99 when I may have not spent it had I not know about the deal!?!?!
For me I have a set budget for games - I spend my budget some months - others I don't - either way I don't go over. Thanks to CAG the one game I could afford if I bought retail has become multiple games! So I see it that way.

You really don't save money on CAG.
You end up buying more because the games are so cheap.
SO for the same $65 you get 2-4 games instead of just one.
Some deals I couldn't pass up on:
DMC4 for $14
COD:WaW for $37
AC:CF w/Wii Speak for $40
Fall Out 3 for $40
Left 4 Dead for $40
I think I spent more money this year than any other year I been a CAG and ended up with less games.
Back when I had over 300 Gamecube and Xbox Games was another time. But now, I cleared up all those games and just buy/keep grade A or B games. Trust me, cheap games are good but don't just pick up anything just cuz it's cheap and an okay game. That's why most CAGs probaly have a backlog of sealed games like I use to(still have a few though).
Well then I guess instead of thanking Cheapy, you should all hate his guts. Or you should just have a better will power.
Sucks to be you.
I dont think any of us are mad because we got more stuff for our money, just that we didnt save any money.

Basically the same as everybody else says.
I would never buy as much games as I do now if it wasn't for CAG.
Seriously, before joining here in March, I had about 30 games. Now I have about 350 and have maybe spent $300 on them.
But I have also made a shitton of money by flipping stuff (espescially F4 and Wii Sports, now gripshift)

I guess, the reason I call it a savings is because I was able to get some titles so cheap that even if I don't like them, I can get equal value back by trading into blockbuster, or Maybe Gamestop. Or I could get much more than I paid if I just put them up on Ebay.
So for me, It IS a savings, because I get plenty of gameplay. AND if I don't like some of the gameplay I can make a profit by selling it.
But that's just me.
I know my wife would agree with most of you that it's all a cost and not a savings.
That is of course until she sees how much credit I have through paypal.
I would probably say I broke even.. I definitely wouldn't have bought as much, but I most likely would have spent more money buying fewer games otherwise.
And I know it's off-topic but: I remember reading about how videogames specifically do well with low income families because it's a better bang for your buck value in entertainment. So yeah, gaming might hurt during the down time, but it won't slip as quickly as most other things. It applies to other things as well in that people with a little more money will buy things that are more disposable, but lower income families know they can't replace the product as quickly and will buy a more durable product for the long run. (Can't think of any examples off the top of my head... maybe shoes?)

I was already a deep bargain shopper when I joined; always checking clearance prices and yard sales, etc. As has been mentioned by others, I probably spent more after joining because of the heads up on all the online deals.

I saved -$1000 last year by using CAG. This website has gotten me addicted to collecting games. Thanks a lot Cheapy (my family hates you too)(except my brother he doesn't mind).

If you can't afford a cheap game. Don't buy it.
If you can't refrain from it, at least try to turn a profit on it somehow.
