Can't believe a thread hasn't already been made for PS3 version only but whatever.

So I'll be getting the LE and after the Kotaku hands-on (http://kotaku.com/5128016/ces-09-hands-on-with-mad-catzs-street-fighter-iv-tournament-sticks) I decided I wanted the tournament stick. Now my local Gamestop was accepting pre-orders for it ($50 minimum down.)

Edit: Sorry I'm contributing to the shoto problem online. I've played Ryu since SF 1 LOL (although my SF 1 cabinet was a regular one, not the button mashing one) so that's who I'm most comfortable and best with, especially for a ranked match.

If I get into a player match with any of you, I'll mix it up, even though it's still going to be a heavy dose of shoto with some C. Viper, Abel, and Sagat mixed in. I'm still not good with the ultra/super charging combos (Bison, Chun-Li, etc.) You don't have to worry about me using Zangief, Vega, or El Fuerte ever.

Lol, I almost thought you were talking about SFII Turbo HD Remix for a 2nd (which we have a thread about). ;)

I plan to get it on PS3, but I forget about starting threads for various games a lot (especially if they aren't for game nights). I won't get it on release, but definitely will during the first Meijer sale.

I've always considered myself a casual SF fan, in that I've loved the series since SFII, but have never been really good at it (memorizing combos, counters, etc.). So I was planning on waiting to pickup SFIV. But two things have happened that have me rethinking that - one, I got a $25 Amazon gift cert and two, I saw what's included in the CE. Now I'm seriously considering it. The anime looks very good so far - here's a trailer for it:

And we get it on blu-ray, so that's even better. Plus that Ryu figurine is awesome. :)

The ONLY thing still having me hesitate on this is that I was thinking of applying the $25 gift cert to RE5 instead.

150 bucks? That's a lot of stick.

Amazon doesn't have a price for that particular stick yet, but I'd keep an eye on that, you'd most likely find a better deal there.

Although, you'd probably be just as well off with a Hori stick. You can find them on amazon for around 80 bucks, and they work great. I got one recently and it was totally worth the money.

Uh Amazon is already sold out of the stick, only 3,000 were made of each version. This stick is 100% Sanwa parts, while the Hori ones (especially the $80 ones) aren't.

So anyone think I should preorder 1 in-store and 1 online to make sure I get it and just resell the 2nd one or just keep the faith my local store will make good on my preorder?

Preordered The CE along with the Hardcover Prima Guide and the Chun-Li fight pad. I cannot personally justify getting a TE Stick, but it is a masterpiece.

Yea, I think you and I are in the same boat. I loved Street Fighter growing up. However, none of us were ever any good at doing combos/moves or anything. We still thought we were hot shit though. I got online and started playing some of these CAG guys and all I could say was :drool:.

I'm ass, absolute ass at this game, but I still love it. With that said I'll probably wait and just get the game a few months after release. MLB 09 comes out a week or two afterwards, so that'll be my baby.

you know I feel the same way about my skills at this game now. though my difference was that I was actually good at one time. I knew all the combos, etc. etc. now though when I lose it is like I can't react fast enough to stop what is happening to me. but I will get my skills back up to par and hopefully be good at this game because it looks absolutely beautiful.

Hopefully the comments are right about it not being installed to the PS3 hdd that's causing it to slow down.I have a feeling that's it, because every Capcom retail release had an install and they kept insisting you wanted it mandatory (but removed it to make people happy). The HDD install really helped SCIV for an example, so we'll see.

I wanna get this on the PS3, but I'm a little concerned with loading with the PS3 version compared to the 360's. Its almost insulting...

A mod came on there later in the thread and stated there's no difference in load times now for the retail release so we'll see.

I'm just glad there's interest in this game on the PS3 section here. I was so worried I was making the wrong purchase decision as the 360 thread was at 4 pages (I have the max posts per page on) while the PS3 section did not have a SF IV thread until last weekend.

Still can't decide which system I'm getting SFIV on, leaning towards the PS3 at the moment. But what's up with fighting games excluding rumble now?

The announcer in IV sounds like he'll get a little annoying since you can't turn off the match commentary, only if it was the same crazy announcer as in Alpha 3...

I think the mentality behind the no rumble in SFIV thing has to do with how it could complicate the execution.

If you're trying to dash cancel out of a focus attack and land an Ultra for a juggle, it could be pretty annoying if the controller is shaking like monkey that just shot up some crack.

How about trophies? Does the PS3 version have trophies? I already pre-ordered the CE for PS3, but gonna end up selling the game if no trophies.

That's the only reason i didn't get the HD Remix... I got Soldner X instead.

All PS3/PSN games released after Jan. 1 2009 are REQUIRED to have trophies to achieve Sony Certification.

If you live near a Best Buy, see if they have a pre-order slip in the store. If they have one and don't list the CE, then they won't have it. It's not 100% Gamestop exclusive, as Amazon and Deep Discount are selling it online also.

I normally go at least once a week and I still haven't seen anything which sucks. but honestly I am not really worried because I still see all the CE copies of Fallout 3, Resistance 2, and so many other games that came out this past season at best buy. so I am sure they will have it sooner or later. Besides I want to get as many purchases as best buy as I can so I can keep my Premier silver status.

But i do it for personal reasons, just to get as many trophies as i can :) It does make you feel special in a way, i mean come on, i got 100% in PJM, not some lame ass trophies as in Lingering in Shadows. Currently working on 100% PJE (sadistic as hell). I kinda give up on Super Stardust... 15 bombs in Bomber mode? Crazy shit...

There's nothing more beautiful that enjoying a game and at the same time you get little fake rewards for it. It makes me feel good :)

Of course, getting hooked on the trophy is a different matter. In my case, i know my limitations, if i can't do it, i won't dwell on it. Like beating Uncharted on Hard (hell, i have trouble beating it on Normal).

Speedy should have their ad about 2 weeks early so you'll definately know by the first week of February. As long as you pre-order from Gamestop more than a week in advance, you should be OK if BB doesn't carry it.

I too am getting the CE at gamestop. I can't wait! Anyone else going to buy the Fight Stick (non Tournament Edition)? I am so hyped for this game.
Also, does anyone think they will stink it up in this game? I haven't played SF since SNES.

All the gameplay videos and interviews with the design team seem to point towards this game being a home run.

I really like the more offense driven direction the game seems to be focused on. One thing I noticed that I think will be great is the amount of damage taken or given to your opponent seems very balanced. Instead of getting knocked out by a few strong moves, it looks like matches will be longer with more chances for a back and forth ebb and flow to each round.

Also that robust tutorial feature sounds absolutely fantastic. I simply can't wait for this game!

GS is only taking pre-orders for the regular arcade stick. They stopped taking pre-orders for the Tournament Stick a while back. The PS3 sticks and fight pads are all wireless and the 360's are all wired.

we are totally on the same wave length. As of right now I have been an achievements whore. Once me and my friends finish Halo 3 on Legendary I am going back to uncharted to get the trophies for crushing and everything else.

on another note. Am I the only person who is also going to buy the strategy guide for new combo ideas?

i saw that the TE editions are available or were for pre order @ BB, but i didnt see anything from BB's site or fry's.

I was considering ordering from buy.com, but my current order with them has taken 2 days and as of this moment is still in f-ing processing. My orders from DD before went through pretty quick, provided they were dvds from way back when they were called deepdiscountdvd and had just started selling games there.

Something that bothers me is that looking at their pricing on the normal edition at $1 off, it almost leads me to believe that it is a pricing error since it says 69.99 to 68.99 (i.e. it should be 78.99 instead). Hopefully this doesn't happen

Someone in the capcom.com selling the sticks/pads thread said the sticks will not work on PS2 games at launch. If that's true that sucks. The main reason I got the TE stick for PS3 was to have it work on all my PS2/3 fighting games. I hope this is fixed SOON.

Agreed. If the quality lives up to the hype (and based on impressions/reviews, it does) it'll be a damned shame if they don't make it work. They even have the original SF Alpha on PSN, so to me there's no excuse ;)

i personally think they arent limited, only because it seems like the whole nintendo wii ordeal where "stocks are limited" and people keep snatching them up.

i think they are limited in the sense that they will make enough to fill the pre-orders... instead of mass producing them, so in a sense they are limited, just not to like 9k of them, cause madcatz website hasnt even had them available yet.

only 3000 made supposedly but they got like 3 or 4 times that amount....

this is not fact, just pure speculation.

Yep, I don't believe that 3,000 limited sticks either. They did say they would make more depending how well it sells. But yeah from the sounds of it, there definitely seems more than 3,000 pre-orders so far.

I'll wait to hear impressions of it from people and not from reviews and then *maybe* I might buy it then. Not totally sure yet.

I'm pretty sure you get it with the game. Gamestop has stopped giving out preorder gifts early unless it's access to an early beta/demo as lots of people just cancel after getting their freebie.

The regular arcade stick is pretty good, even for the price. Lots of bang fo the buck.

I mean seriously this DLC stuff is beginning to get out of hand completely. why are we going to pay an extra 20 to capcom in total to get 25 different costumes for these characters. do they affect game play? no? do they add anything else to the game besides aesthetics? no sheesh this is ridiculous.

Capcom should let us unlock DLC costumes instead of purchasing it online. You get that sense of fulfillment by earning the reward(DLC costumes) rather than buying it online.
But, I don't think it will happen. :-?

I already have the CE paid in full. So, there's one pack.
And I'll probably buy one more pack (I really like Boxer's alt costume), just to support Capcom. That's it.

I always do this and I gotta scramble to get the version I want when it comes out. Well BB better have the CE like the website says or there is gonna be trouble on launch day for somebody. (this is what I get for trying to support best buy.)

I'm in the exact same spot, I doubt I'll find the CE though.

well I have mapped out my plan of action to get the CE now. Run to BB the day it releases asap and try to get a CE. then if they don't have it hit these stores in order.

If I'm not successful I don't know what I'm going to do, either break down and get the regular version or get ripped off on some eBay purchase where I have to pay 30 dollars more and wait for the delivery. :bomb:

We're all kinda disappointed by the costume DLC but we're all going to download them sooner or later, no matter what. Yeah, I slightly feel foolish but those costumes are great looking...

I'm picking up the standard edition version of the game, and eventually caving to buy the 'all costumes' DLC.

Had they not announced the DLC, there's a chance I'd have sprung for the CE.
Still hoping to see my TE Stick shipping out from Amazon any day now (while praying it doesn't ship on the 25th like it says on the order page).

I ended up buying it yesterday off of buy.com for 53.99 shipped. I hope it don't take forever to get the game. It isn't the best deal,but it beats retail price. :) At the store it would be 64 something with tax, and all. When I bought it off of buy.com I saved around 10 bucks. I don't know If that is worth waiting longer though...

Agreed, lame DLC that I would never pay for, but Capcom specifically stated they have no interest in making characters as DLC or anything that could alter someone's gaming experience (at least for SF4). They want to make sure that character and gameplay-wise, everyone who plays the game is playing the same game, which I fully support. I just wish they had taken the same approach to Mega Man 9...

It's possible that Sony/Microsoft put pressure on developers and publishers to offer DLC to bring traffic to their online stores. That, and if anyone is willing to throw their money away on costumes, it makes business sense to increase their profits.

Now if they released new levels to fight in along with costumes (perhaps even classic levels and costumes from other SF or Capcom games) then I might be persuaded. I'd love to duke it out in Wiley's Castle, or surrounded by zombie spectators in the mall, or in Raccoon City :)

You can blame microsoft for this one. They do NOT allow free dlc if they can avoid it. All of that stuff on Rainbow Six Vegas cost until the PS3 version came out and gave it for free. Valve was having these very same problems with TF2 on the 360 where they want to release the massive update and levels for free, but microsoft INSISTS that they CHARGE for it. I blame this squarely on microsoft for the glut of DLC. That and stupid consumers who got gangraped by Ace Combat on the 360. I also blame iDolm@ster and Oblivion's horse armor. i hate overpriced DLC. I WANT MY GOD DAMN COSTUMES TO BE FREE YOU SPOONS. I paid 80 for the collectors edition and you're still raping me for MOAR? OBAMA I SUMMON YOU FOR JUSTICE!

I called Gamestop to see if I can still preorder it and the girl over the phone(who sounds really cute btw) told me Gamestop cut the preorder off. She told me she thinks a lot of people preordered the PS3 CE version because it has Ryu and the 360 version has the new girl in it. Surprise someone who works at GS knows what they're talking about and a girl to boot!

I called Blockbuster and they told me they won't even get the game until the 19th. Does anyone know how reliable newegg's preoders are and if their 3 day shipping would arrive on release date? I placed my order there. I'll probably go to Fry's on the 18th for it and just cancel my newegg's order.

went down to the BB on delaware ave earlier today and got a pre-order for the PS3 CE. (double checked the receipt to make sure it was the ps3 version) I am still a lil skeptical but having that preorder and receipt does make me feel a little bit better now. I will still get there the day off and as early as possible.

no sure about the costumes, but if think charges are hard in street fighter, in killer instinct they were downright silly with T.J. Combo and is ultra combo. lol forward, back punch. lol

The game is awesome to those that still dont know. I actually like it A LOT more than the remix...Ive heard that some places in California already have it. True or not I cant confirm since Im in Japan. I would like the online lobby to have more than 3 people on a list to fight. Its a bit hard to FIND someone with a good connection. Id say 98% of the connections Ive played were perfect with maybe only 1 or 2 matches where people had crappy connections. Im looking forward to seeing how the connections hold up once its world wide. See you guys in the game!

Can't wait to hear some early reactions to this game. I saw it played when i was still in Japan, but didn't dare play since I would have gotten pwned. Even though the game looked awesome, I might skip on this game until I can buy it for $30 or under or can manage a trade for it. Fortunately, I have it reserved at the public library when they get the game in soon. I just hope I got in before all those snot-nosed children got their reservations in.

Got the CE, watching the anime now. Soundtrack is 17 songs, hint book is just a few combos/art for Viper, Able, Fuerte, and Rufus. DLC is a code for the Brawler's pack.

It's not the anime cut scene, it's because NXE is buggy as shit.

It happens all the time, regardless of what game you're playing, or when you press it.

Yeah the install cuts down the load time considerable, you can tell during online matches if the guy you're playing doesn't have the install, it's a pretty noticeable pause on the VS screen.

Also, Seth can go fuck himself. That guy is awful!

Yep, ohvermie invited me to play some games last night, pretty much right after I had loaded the game up for the first time (had done a total of two challenges so far) and hadn't done the install yet, and there was a pretty considerable load on the vs screen. It lagged and we couldn't stay connected at first, but I switched my PS3 to be connected wired instead of wirelessly and it was lag free after that. We had some good matches, it was pretty even. I would definitely be up for a PS3 SF4 group, PSN name DeskLaser. Hopefully quarter matches or multiple player lobbies are coming in the free "Championship Mode" DLC pack.

You do know you can put it on easiest diffficulty for arcade and still unlock characters, right? Although I'm right there with you on trying to beat Seth with Dan, even on easiest.

I think my favorite criticism of it was something along the lines of:

Hey all. I've already asked this on the 360 boards so I wanted to get an opinion here as well. For those who have played both versions (PS3 and 360) which is the better option? I'm not talking about the "uber graphicz" (noticed I used the inappropriate "z" at the end of a word), I'm talking about the controls and all that jazz. I heard the d-pad for the 360 isn't that great and I'm wondering what the consensus is for the PS3's controller and SF4. The one thing I can't stand in a new game is bad controls so that's why I'm asking. Thanks!

Supposedly the 360 d-pads make the baby jesus cry.

However, the PS3 pads aren't that much better, I think if anything all those years of playing SF Alpha on PSone might've made me moderately competent with it. They did make things a bit easier on everyone though, for dragon punch motions, you can just tap down forward, down forward and it does the same thing.

First off, thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I'm literally about to head out the door and pick up this game so your input(s) are monumentally helpful.

I definitely don't think I'll be getting a specific controller for this game per se. Unless I absolutely fall in love with it, then that might be an option. I'm also not really looking to play online as much simply because I'm going to suck lol. I just to relive a piece of gaming nostalgia from my childhood and Street Fighter basically says it all.

It sounds like the PS3 controller is better, overall, for this game so I might just pick it up for the PS3. My only problem is a buddy of mine who only has a 360 is getting it too and is stoked that I'm getting it. I might be letting him down a little bit haha. Thanks again for all the replies!!!

MBB did you get the $70 SF4 stick? That stick (both versions) has a defective washer from the factory that causes the joystick to lock at times. If you're not into modding, I would PM MarkMan here on CAG or setup a warranty claim with Mad Catz, as all the ones in the stores currently have that issue.

To the poster on 360 vs. PS3: If you're not going to get a new pad/stick, there's no good reason anyone in the US should get the 360 version instead of the PS3 version. A list of friends does no good if you can't play the game. If you're going to get a stick and have tons more friends on the 360 side then get that one. Otherwise, get the PS3 one, install it to the HD, and you're good to go.

I got into a big arguement with the clerk because I picked up the last CE on the shelf and I asked him what would have happened had I not picked up this copy and he said that they would order me a copy. Well I flipped out and asked him what was the point of pre-ordering? after that I walked off and was looking through the dvds and he walked up to me apologized and told me they had my copy at the register waiting for me. though the situation could have gotten worse if I didn't have a copy, the morale of this story is too always know how to get your way and don't be afraid to curse people out.

I am going to add EVERYONE on this thread later tonight if I don't have you added already.

Minibossbattle: I don't think there should be a problem with your joystick, though back in the day my old NES advantage joystick use to do the same thing until I use to hit it on the bottom and it corrected itself. If you paid a lot for it, then take it back and get a new one.

I spent half an hour waiting in line at GameStop but I finally got my copy....

Couldn't get to my first match in Arcade mode since people kept challenging me, had to turn that option off. Having the ability to set challengers to friends-only would've been a nice option.

Thanks for the advice. That's the thing though; only one of my friends is getting the game on the 360 side. He's an avid gamer but we probably won't be facing off against each other or anything. Sad to say that I literally have 1 friend on the PSN (pathetic right? lol) and he's definitely not getting it. I have to say that if more of my friends bought this game, then I would be totally getting for whichever system. I might be inclined to buy one of the fight pads or sticks if I truly fall in love with this game. With that being said, I could simply buy a fight pad for either system and then it would be all about the graphics and game play.

I've heard rumors that the PS3 version is only an "upscaled 640p" picture. Now, that statement is coming from the official 360 forums so I don't trust that. I hate to ask, but does it look great on both systems? Any hiccups or glitches? I might install it to the HD but I have about 2GBs left unfortunately lol.

On another note, boy, is that Ryu figure small. I wish it would have been Chimera sized like the one in Resistance 2.

Regarding which version to buy, I'd recommend the PS3 cause its the version I have, but I don't think people should stay away from the 360 version because of the d-pad. Personally, I wouldn't play either version with the d-pad and always play with the thumbsticks. And as far as thumbsticks go I prefer the PS3.

I've had good games with some of you guys so far and hope more of you add me.

Also, ManaKnight maybe we could incorporate SF4 into the gaming nights like you mentioned, but I still think there may be enough interest to have a dedicated Street Fighter group too.

I went to Customer Service and presented my ticket and she said I had to go grab the bundle myself from the floor and bring it over. Forget what I said here. Just find the website address on your instructions, fill it out, then call the number on the instructions to setup a warranty repair, as all stock in stores is going to be the same. You're going to have to pay to ship it to them, which sucks.

while u can manage playing SF on a pad, the execution in high level GG is downright impossible without a stick.

Well I've played a few rounds and I have to say that the memories are flooding back haha. It's a pretty good game and I actually enjoy the 3D characters. Very fluid game play and I can tell that there's a learning curve to be had once I decide to actually learn everything; right now I'm just fucking around. It's installing right now! :)

It's definitely better if you install to the hard drive, that's for sure. However, playing online is just killing me. I can never find a game so I host my own games. I set it to my skill and I am getting WORKED over every game. I like playing but I'm getting bummed out losing all the time. Plus I think I need a stick or at least a fight pad to keep competitive. Otherwise, I'm just a piece of meat out there.

You'll most likely get owned for several weeks until the player Tiers start to spread out, as you're fighting both pros and newbies since the game just came out. Expect more pros/experienced players to hop on during this weekend.

So don't take it too seriously when playing online or focus more on training so you're prepared to jump in against real players. Good luck!

Everyone,
Be careful you do not get too many perfects/ultra finishes when trying to get Akuma. I just got through everything with enough of those to actually trigger Gouken first, and if you do that before getting Akuma, neither is unlocked when you win. I'm uber pissed off right now.

Just got the game yesterday and it's addicting. Unlocked everyone and I'm going through challenge mode to unlock more costume colors and personal actions.

I'm using the PS2 15th anniversary controller to play SF IV and going back to using the DualShock's d-pad is weird, I'm horrible with the regular d-pad now.

I'm using the Tekken 5 Tenth Anniversary Stick, lol. It's an ok stick, i'm able to pull off most moves with it. Going back to ps3 dpad feels weird for me, unless I do crab style to perform EX moves.
