I'd be excited if only I watched MTV and if only I could get HOME to work and if only I cared about getting on HOME and cared about buying stuff on HOME. Will Pimp Mah Ride be on there?

Sadly, in the short time after HOME went public, it gave more profit than the video store up until HOME went public.

Is this really a good thing? MTV is garbage. It's been at least 10 years since the M in MTV actually meant anything. Then MTV2 was actually good for a couple years until they decided that people really didn't want a music station that played music. MTVX was awesome until they got rid of that. Anyway, enough ranting about how crappy MTV is now, I guess this is cool or something for the people who like the current MTV.

Before your blood starts boiling, you do know that MTV owns channels like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Spike, right? That means that South Park will be showing up on the video store now along with other stuff from the various channels under the MTV umbrella.

Good. Now the 360 and PS3 can offer similar programs for sale that I'm simply never going to buy.

damn these shows aren't going to be free? I just can't pay per episode... I'll just have to watch things on youtube, hulu, and crunchyroll

I would actually rather buy episodes of TV shows from PSN/XBL compared to buying the discs, only because discs create clutter and I rather not switch discs.

If Rocket Power was up, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

"Watching MTV" and "paying to download shows off of MTV" are two very different things. Set up an on-demand service supported through advertising to watch music videos they have the rights to and I'm sold, though. Hell, MTV Games owns Rock Band, right? The tie-ins for advertising and exposing people to music by artists they've heard in the game would be endless, especially through DLC. Really the possibilities are endless but it sounds like they'll just go the route of pay-per-episode crap that's never interested me to begin with.

With all the free ways to obtain this kind of stuff which you can view on multiple platforms, be they legal (Hulu, Youtube, etc) or questionably legal (IE torrents - it's my understanding that as long as it's something broadcast on TV, a torrent for it is just like taping it with your Tivo or VCR, and is only a problem if it's ripped off a copy-written DVD?), I need way more of an incentive for purchasing a movie or show off of PSN, or iTunes, or XBL if I had a 360, etc.

It's nice to see companies embracing digital distribution in response to the demand since there's clearly a market for it, but in it's current form I couldn't be less interested in it (for video, anyway... music and games are a bit different).

Good. Now the 360 and PS3 can offer similar programs for sale that I'm simply never going to buy.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I feel you on that. I hate having to store things and watch my material possessions increase. It's so nice to have everything stored in 1 unit which doesn't increase it's physical size (like I've been doing for years with music, photos, etc).

At the same time, though, if I'm actually paying for it then I want something I can watch anywhere I feel like. At least if you buy it on iTunes or something it's portable... a PSN/XBL purchase is tied to the console, you couldn't even stream it from your PC if you so chose, despite PSN having an internet portal specifically for PCs?

Let's see... last MTV series I religiously watched was Viva La Bam and that's done. Not like I would of paid to watch VLB new content anyways.

I had no idea MTV even existed...as for the channel sucking since at least 10 years ago, try closer to 20 (well, it still had Headbangers on Saturday and 120min on Sunday into the early 90's at least).

MTV jumped the shark the day REMOTE CONTROL premiered...."oh good, dumbass fratboys on TV...House of Style heeey thats great....<click>".

I tried watchin Headbangers on MTV2 but really couldn't get past the BLOCKS of commercials they run every 2 or 3 videos for like 2 or 3 minutes EACH time. They must be close to 40% commercial time by now for every 1 hour of programming they do.

At least Palladium shows the odd concert in HD...I'm waiting for Peter Gabriel to roll around again... :p

Oh and PS3 sucks.....who cares what they offer....until KZ2 and GT5 hit, Sony can Suckit.

Yeah youtube and hulu on PS3 are the way to go. Free that is. But if I were to buy shows it'd be on the PS3. It's just a better a movie player than the xbox. Content loads instantaneously, rather the 2 sec stutter/wait on 360. Fast forwarding actually works. On 360, it never stops exactly where you want it.
