The one I have now is getting on and well when I got it it cost me $1500 w/shipping. So I'd like to spend no more then that again including shipping. I had a pretty good one built on Cyberpowerinc but its ranges from $1200 tp $1400+ depending on little tweaks. What do you guys think? I'm looking to get 3 years out of it with just a memory upgrade and maybe a video card upgrade sometime 'tween like this one. Thanks. :D Later I might post what I made so far on CP. Oh yes by the way, I leaning heavily towards AMD. :D

EDIT : RANT :

Actually forget it, I'm giving up its all BS. I hate how they charge so much for this cause they are new, yes they might be the best but charging over $500 for one piece to a computer is just plain BS maybe I dont see whatever it is I dont see or maybe you just think me ignorant thats fine, I just see BS. A new video card comes out and they make 15 models for it all with +'s or letters added to it with ultra, mega etc. There is no point it justs makes it harder to choose what the hell you want. I'm sick of it, I think its worth just giving up Gaming all together most games that come out now suck anyway and arent worth my money. Only HL2 is I'm hoping going to be worth my money and when that comes out I'll see. Until then I'm not gonna spend my hard earned money on a tower of plastic and metal thats way overpriced and is not gonna be the best in a few months. Thanks for letting me rant, dont flame me, if you dont like it just please dont post.

I did and I found that on average parts were more and the system as a whole was $100-200 less on CP.

Really? I managed to get an AMD 64 3000+ with an ATI 9600XT and some other crap for $686 shipped on Ibuypower.

I spent around $1700 on my system (and I had to buy the monitor and OS) I was able to build a really good system. My specs:
AMD 64 3200+ (sadly I bought this a few week before the price drop, and if I had waited I could have bought a 3400+ for $20 more)
1 Gig PC 3200 RAM
ATI Sapphire X800 Pro
200 GB Maxtor SATA hard drive
Raidmax case with 420 watt PSU
ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
52x CDRW
16X DVD ROM
Logitech Z640 Speakers
Viewsonic 17" CRT

You should learn how to build one. It can help you out latter in life, as you will be able to repair a lot of problems yourself. If not a system like the one I built should last you a few years.

I was thinking of building it myself but it would have to be cheaper if I bought everything myself. I'll look around today and see what I can find.

Cost is not the best reason for building your own machine. You cannot expect to beat companies who buy parts in lots of 100,000 or greater on price. The big advantage is being able to create exactly the machine you want, at least to the extent of what motherboard choices are on the market.

My experience has been that well thought out DIY systems are much more stable than big brand machines. All too often the big brands cannot avoid the temptation to add custom element that make the machine distinct to their brand but also compromise the stability of the machine.

You can build a sick computer with $1500

I know I can, and I've built a few and I've been reading so many reviews for the CPU's and videos cards I'm losing it  but I've narrowed it down, now I just have to get over the biggest hurdle of them all......convincing myself that its worth the $1500! :x Which wont be easy...

Good for you. A $200 card of the moment kicks ass compared to what went for $400 less than a year ago. You get much better value by getting a reasonably priced card and upgrading when a massively better card is down to the same price range. You'll still get a big boost to gaming quality in the short term and will have the funds available for when the upgrade becomes irresistable.
