Being a CAG, to me, means saving pocket change on each videogame while increasing your total spending on videogames by 10x. It should also be about helping out the CAG community (which is the point of the site), which some people forget when they buy a cartload of games to resell.

To me, CAG means I'm not crazy....or at least, I'm not the only one. I was actually starting to get pretty damn bored with the internet before I found CAG. I was barely using it any more and than one day, boom...I found the reason the internet was invented: CAG.

To me, it means extracting the most gaming mileage from my money. Before finding this site, I would let three of five games I found interesting slip by, unplayed. Now, I get to pick up all of them...and a few I hadn't heard of but decided to try after hearing other CAG's rave about them! You can tell when a group of real gamers post deals; they give crappy titles and worthwhile titles their respective dues.

[edit: timmylamb, you have just made me sad right at the beginning of a new week. :? ]

It's some scary stuff how much I check this site, and I like it! This truly is a great site where gamers can join together to get the best deals, watch eachothers' backs and go tradin' for fun. Can't say I don't love it, 'cause I do!

A great site indeed, that's what CAG means to me.

What being a Cheap Ass Gamer is, is simple really. You add one cheap ass such as myself, add in a buttload of games, take loads of fun and stir it, shake it, and you have it, a CAG.

I'm a rare poster here, but CAG means to me the first gaming page I open everyday. It's that important. I have my own online business, and as such am home most of the time, with plenty of time to game. The fact that this site, and all the great members have saved me so much money on games is something I am extremely grateful for. The more money I have the more games I can get, and after all, that's what it's all about.

Being cheap = Having more of what you want!

Without this site I would have never seen my collection grow like it did. In the nine months since I became a member here I've easily saved over $1500 on consoles, games, and accessories. This is the first site I go to in the morning. And usually the last site I visit before bed to see if can get in on one more cheap ass deal before bed.

The community around here is great. It seems that other CAG's are always willing to help each other out. Thanx to Cheapy D all all the people who help make this site such a huge success. Without y'all none of this would be possible.

What does CAG mean to me? Well, it means I'm not alone in believing that most videogames are overvalued by manufactures. Hopefully everyone else in the market will see the light and we either start getting more quality games, or much cheaper ones on average.

CAG is much more than that, though. It's existence also shows that gamers are not just geeky loners who live in their mom's basement and trade yu-gi-oh cards with their 2 friends. It's myriad of personalities shows that gaming is an integral part of our entertainment world and is legitimate as any other medium such as the movie, record, or television industry. I love being a part of it, kindaa like pride for one's own country. I'm a CAG patriot !! God bless CAG, and no one else !!

First and foremost congrats on 20k, CAG has become a great website and resource for fans.

So what does it mean to be a cheap-ass-gamer?

Sure one can say it's about getting the best deals, or saving tons of money or just getting games on the cheap, but I think it's a lot more than that.

Being a CAG means:

Scouring all the value sites for deals and bringing them back to the community

Hitting all fifteen Target stores in the tri-cities area in order to make sure you haven't missed a single clearance or markdown game.

Walking through the aisles of Circuit City wrangling with store employees while holding your printed out 5 dollar clearance list.

Having the clerks at best buy allready ringing your gamer giftcard up when you walk in the door so that you can use the 5 dollar discount

Being the first to find that sweet deal, markdown, price change or whatever at a B&M store 50 miles from home and having the satisfaction of bringing it here but to find that there's three threads on it

Knowing all the major Sunday ads the Tuesday before

Having accounts setup on all major online retailers

You can recite online coupon codes better than your own phone number or address

Knowing the power of Shaq-Fu

Finally it means having a very understanding wife, girlfriend, partner and or a flexible wallet and just a little discretionary income.

There's just so much more to being a cheapass gamer, but it's all about the pursuit of more affordable games in the end. I've been a member of this community for pretty much a year now and I can say that it's one of the better ones on the web. Here's to 40k more!

If I were crash Davis of Bull Durham CAG would be one of the things I believe in. ..

Well I believe in the soul, the c*, the p*, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self- indulgent overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, softcore pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve. I BELIEVE IN SAVING TONS OF MONEY BY VISITING CAG.And I believe in long slow deep soft wet kisses that last three days.

CAG means a lot to me. It’s a site dedicated to save gamers money and really is there a more noble cause out there? I think not. My collection has gone from a mere handful of games to a nice respectable sum in the last two years and all at a fraction of the cost. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face. If not for CAG I might have been limited too a few AAA titles a year. Instead, this site has brought gamers together in unity against the enemy that we all fight. That’s right I’m talking about the “too many new games, too little funds” syndrome. So CAG, I salute you and more importantly my wallet salutes you. Keep up the good work and have no fear. This site will always be my home, in a wierd lurk but hardly post sort of way. :)

09-13-2004, 09:13 AM
What CAG means to me is community. A community of like and not so like minded gamers united under the same idea, that inflated prices for mediocre games is unacceptable. By working as a team and constantly searcing for the best value for our money, we can be assured that our 20,000 voices will be heard. One has to wonder if our community hasn't had the slightest effect on the value pricing of games, the recently reduced introductory price of the ESPN sports line, for example. We are also saying that low buyback prices and inflated used game costs are also unacceptable. We do this by the constant trading between members, assuring us of the absolute best value for our used games. But more than that, CAG is a community, a community were we all belong.

Plenty of things:

1) Great people who make the site worth visiting.
2) Great values that get me the most for my dollar, reminding me there's no reason to pay full price for any game out there.
3) Great trading community, who find the games that other people can't find, who help out one another, and aren't out for putting someone over a barrel for prices on games and other items.
4) Great staff, who monitor the site and make sure it's being used to its fullest extent.

Those are the big points, though I'm sure there are more that'll come to mind later.

Glad I'm here and glad I've stayed. Plan to do so for quite some time.

I frequent alot of websites, but had never really become active or involved in any. I found CAG through EGM (as many people have), and was immediately captivated by the whole premise of the website: a bunch of people who work together to save themselves some money, but who always remember to keep their actions legal in the process. They know a good deal when they see it, but they also know that their are boundaries not to be crossed just to save some money.

The forums are a whole other beast. This is truly an all encompassing community. Most of the people here have an awesome sense of humor, and I spend hours just perusing the off topic and discussion forums just looking to have a cool conversation with someone. I hardly ever find myself browsing the deals forum anymore, as the topics being discussed in the other threads are of far more interest to me now. My g/f hates this site, simply because of the ridiculous amount of time I spend on it.

Oh yeah, and spending. I must admit that I do end up spending more than I would spend on games after finding this site, but I have so much more to show for it. I'd never tried trading either until I got to this site, and have had awesome experiences with each of my trades and have done my best to help out others who simply don't have access to the things I do.

Another note about the community. I've never seen a more mature gaming forum in my life. Many of you know how ridiculous the gameFAQS forums are these days, and I remain confident that CAG will never fall to that level. The reason is that I've seen people of every age, gender, race, sexual orientation, and political orientation on this board. And while a few problems occur every now and then, everyone gets along fine and is ready to listen to what others have to say. Those who aren't simply can go to the VS board.

Wow, I typed a damn lot there. Anyhoo, I love CAG, I really do. I don't care if it sounds ridiculous to talk that way about a website, but I do. CAG is in my thoughts at least once every day. I laugh when I think about conversations I've had here, and I smirk a smile when I find a good deal here. What more can I say? This website is great, and its influence grows every day. Maybe one day Cheapy really will be the head of a CheapAss network of websites. I can oly hope that this one will remain the most inportant and influential.

Keep it up Cheapy, it is a good thing you do here.

CAG means great deals, new friends and a nice community of gamers.

Since i've been a member here I picked up a bunch of games super cheap! Made some great trades with fellow CAGs and made a few new friends to jam with on XBL. I also went to a killer LAN Halo party with a few members too.

What CAG means to me: A great place to meet new people and share all sorts of information; A place which helps me save money but as a result of all the excellent deals that I can't pass up, entices me to spend just as much if not more; and finally it is place where it is second nature for me to go. :o

I haven't found a community quite like this on the internet ever. Not Fatwallet - not slickdeals - nothing. Great regulars that know their stuff and never fail to bring a smile to the day at some point, and more game savings than I can shake the proverbial stick at. I've collected games and systems for an easy 15 years now, and to be honest was starting to lose interest in forking out $50 a game. This place has reafirmed my faith in gaming. Hallelujah! Being a CAG means that I and my fellow gamers can finally enjoy our favorite hobby in the manner which we deserve. It means reaching out to find the best ways to circumvent the problem of money, and then using those methods to extend to everyone else - friends, family, and everyone else devoted to this site. It means my pitable hourly rate at my job can suddenly be considered worthwhile when I finally grab a game that I've wanted to five bucks, or that someone out there is willing to trade it to me at a respectable price. We're a giant community full of people all out for the same goal - to help, support, and guide each other in saving money, promoting friendship through posts, and watch for scammers. A giant functioning entity full of individual organ systems as represented by people. It's the sort of unification that's not found anywhere else. I am honored to be part of this community and interface with, truly, some of the best personalities I've yet run across in a digital spectrum.

CAG'ing for me means:

1) Teh obvious -- great games at lower prices
2) A newfound patience at being able to find the games I want and waiting out to get them at the prices I want (I love leaving a Gamespot retailer saying "Pfft. It's overpriced. I can get it cheaper online.")
3) In addition to all of the (over?) hyped AAA barnburning titles, a resource for insight on games that I otherwise would've never given a second look -- once again, at great prices.
4) An outstanding community of knowledgeable and incredibly entertaining people. My work day would be torture without it.
5) A place where I can come in contact with my feminine side -- I actually like shopping now.

I think that's it.

CAG is essentially about people helping each other out, which is a rare find these days. you and i and others come to this site every day to look for deals, post your own if you know of any, answer questions, play against people online, get in arguments over who to vote for for president and what constitutes good music. CAG brings a real sense of community to an internet website where you are posting messages to people you probably don't know and never really will, which is impressive. and besides all that, CAG allows us to know about deals before most of the employees working at their stores know about them. i've never had so many games as i do now, and i would never pay full price for a game again, or pretty much anything else for that matter. without trying to be too melodramatic, CAG has changed my life. the only thing that i dislike about the website is that i didn't come across it sooner.

CAG is the internet at its finest. end of story.

What it means to me:
It means that my wife won't leave me for spending entirely too much money on videogames (Though she might still leave me for playing them too much).

Congratulations Cheapy! 20,000 is a huge milestone!

It's been great to have a place to read and post dedicated strictly to saving money while enjoying a favorite pastime - playing games! We have all been very fortunate to have a forum to participate in that has honestly saved ALL of us a ton of money to this point. It's also a great place to make acquaintences that we can use for online gaming as well. Thanks for your hard work and dedication in making this forum site as successful as it has been and, I'm sure, will continue to be.

Thanks to CAG, instead of buying 2-3 games a year, I've bought that many in one trip/order.

It's also a nice forum to kill hours at work with a great community(except people who use GGC  )

For me CAG was originally an alternative to the many deal sites I would check and occasionally get a good video game deal. By luck, last Dec. I learned of CAG through a link from a slickdeals video game deal. I added CAG to my favorites list simply to check the site every day or so to see if there were any great deals on the site. Then the first CC and BB clearances hit and I managed to pick up a few games. There was one that I wasn't able to pick up, but I decided to visit the trading board. I was able to make a friendly trade with another site reg and pick up the game I missed out on (Arc the Lad: ToS for any curious). I was actually surprised at how smoothly and painless the trade went down, it was actually easier than many of my EBay transactions. To have a small community of traders on this site that has a great amount of 'trust' for a newbie was simply amazing and made me feel welcome to the site. Granted I haven't had any need for trading since then, but if I do, I check the trading board before hitting up the Ebay auctions...

As far as the actual 'meat' of the site, the community on these boards is great. Coming from a large site (GameFAQs), I still see the occasional elitism and newbie-bashing, but overall this site has a great community and a great set of users and workers commited to simply spreading the word on great game deals and sharing their love of video games. I've been a user on this site for not quite a year now, and while at first I didn't expect to visit much, I frequently find myself checking the site several times a day to see what deals there are, what game news I've missed or just hear the general banter among this great net community. I know this thread is meant to be a submission for a contest, but I think far too often on internet message boards things are taken for granted. People are quick to dole out criticism or lash out at others simply because they don't like the way things are. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to CheapyD, the mods and all the others users that make this site what it is and spending a chunk of their day commited to just helping others save money. Thanks for keeping me entertained and helping me save a dollar here or there, I'll now return to my lurking ways...

Being a CAG is being able to buy more than 1 game every couple of months!

To me, CAG is my homepage, it is also the cause of losing about 2 hours a day looking at the deals, and the randomness that is known as the forum. Seriously, I open up Firefox to google something, or check my e-mail, and I end up looking around CAG. CAG is also the source of saving... and spending a lot of cash on video games, not a lot in sense that they are expensive, the fact that they are as cheap as a value meal at Wendy's. And when it comes to eating or video games... any true gamer knowns the answer! :P

CAG is to me, buying games that I don't really want simply because they're cheap. ;)

Being a CAG means embracing my inner cheapness! It also means having a place to come to where I can find others as cheap and as weird as I am. This has become my home away from home. Sorry I haven't written much lately Mom....

CAG is about trying to save money and having a good time. It seems like now I spend more money on games than I normally would thanks to this site, but I at least have a good selection of games now instead of my usual 1 or 2 games. Thanks CheapyD for this great site.

I can't think of my life as a CAG without thinking of Rygar. I don't think I'd still be gaming if it weren't for CAG. With it, I can get as many as ten games per $50 instead of one. It's amazing.

CAG's existance means I can actually enjoy my gaming hobby without having to spen 20,000 dollars a year on the games I want most.

Even though at 40 I find myself the resident old fart, in CAG I've found a community that keeps me coming back. Long before the acronym existed I've been a CAG. I just had to wait a while for my home to be built so I could step inside and get down to serious shopping.

CAG means buying far too many cheap games that sit around waiting their time to be played. I am also familiar with the 'look' that cornfedwb spoke of.

CAG means saving money on games, but finding too many good deals to pass on, so spending more than you would have to begin with.

Also, the “C” could stand for “community” as we have a great core group here.

CAG means to me a cheapass gamer which essential to me in college because I am a broke Ass College kid. CAG means to save money on games and other things rather than spending a whole bunch of money on something we can find for 5 dollars at some other store. CAG is a community of money savers. That is what CAG means to me

I've been a member of CheapAssGamer for over a year now, and rarely has a day gone by where I haven't checked out the deals and the forums. CAG has an outstanding community with members that are always willing to help answer any questions or tell others about great deals they discovered. Thanks to CAG I've been able to take advantage of deals I'd otherwise know nothing about.
