I was reading my friends blog about Take Two's downfall (http://ronworkman.tumblr.com/post/71238139/take2), and it made me wonder just how many people will buy the GTA IV DLC.
According to GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73068), it seems like it's going to cost $20.

Please vote in the above poll.

The only reason I held on to my copy was because of the DLC so I'll definitely be buying it. Should be fun.

Nah, i wont be. Rockstar have left it too long in my opinion...if they released it when they said they would then i probably would have.

GTA4 bores me now and DLC wont get me back into it...

Are you picking it up Cheapy? Or you not going to tell us lol :)

Its kind of stupid of me to do so, since I haven't finished the game yet. But yeah I probably will.

EDIT: I just found out, according to Jeff Keighley, the Lost and the Damned DLC will be released in a month. That's a bit troublesome given the fact that Killzone 2 will be released and then Resident Evil 5. So I'll have to amend my answer to a probably not. Especially since its $20. Just a timing issue (assuming Jeff is right .. and he was quoting Rockstar directly so I assume he is).

Probably not, $20 isn't worth it to me for DLC on a game I only somewhat enjoyed. If it ever goes on sale or it turns out to be really great content I may change my mind, but as it stands right now, no I will not.

01-18-2009, 10:48 AM
you know 20 is steep for DLC but it does seem to be alot more to it then most, id have to fall in the undecided slot until after it comes out and i can see what kinda bang for buck it offers so to speak

Maybe once I beat the game, but it's pretty doubtful.

I am on the fence about it as I just haven't really payed much attention to that game or the content coming out for it. Its just collecting dust waiting to be played at this point. I am probably going to lean towards the NO on this one seeing that its $20, I mean what can they do that is worth that price point?

help1
01-18-2009, 11:15 AM
I beat the game, and there aren't any games that interest me on the horizon with the exception of Killzone 2. So yes.

hostyl1
01-18-2009, 11:19 AM
I think I'm in the same boat as help1. There arent many games on the horizon that I'm dying to play. GTA4 was my favorite 2008 game (that I played) so I wouldnt mind revisiting that world. Once I get some cheap points cards or if GS has a powertrade type deal I'll likely pick it up.

at $20 maybe not. If there is a price drop/sale then sure. I've only played like 5% of the game so I really need to finish GTA4 before thinking about the DLC

Rockstar was the best publisher during the last gen. However, this is 2009, not 2004. Rockstar needs to move on and start creating new franchises. Sure, there is always GTA, but how long will that last? GTA4 in my opinion, was a failure. It sold well at the time of release but is now a wasteland online and is not selling at the same rate that the previous GTA games sold. I know that EA dead pissed off plenty of gamers, but if you look at that blog article Cheapy provided, maybe it would have been better for Take 2 to accept.

And to answer the question, I will buy the new content as long as it is released in physical form (like they did with the Oblivion Shivering Isles DLC) . I hate downloading content, especially on the 360 where everything is more complicated than it should be.

lionheart4life
01-18-2009, 12:47 PM
Yeah I'm gonna get it. $20 isn't too much for something that seems like it will offer a decent amount of gameplay. I might wait a week or two until I actually have time to play it and to make sure it can't be finished in 1-2 hours because that would be a waste. Also I really don't want to support downloadable content for games b/c I'd hate to see full games become digital only, but I might have to in this case.

01-18-2009, 12:47 PM
The pricing is what's affecting my decision. I was able to get in on the BBV B1G1 deal. So to pay more for the DLC than I paid for the actual game itself seems crazy. I think game publishers need to take a realistic view at the way they price DLC especially considering that a price drop in the future will be pretty much nonexistent. Now had it been released in 2008 I would be more likely to buy it but come on R*/2K the fucking game is almost a year old.

It has been too long to go with out DLC, but GTA is a popular game to some people. I didnt like the style, but the DLC looks good. I will probably end up getting it when it goes down like 400pts

It comes out at a bad time with SFIV coming out the same week and KZ2 the following week, so those are added reasons to the fact that I haven't even finished the game and haven't touched it since early May last year.

I'm mostly in the 'no' column, but if people gush about how amazing it is, then what I'll probably do is wait until I can get 1600 points on the cheap. $20 for DLC is harsh, man.

I stopped playing GTAIV and haven't gone back to it since the beginning of last year. I really want to beat the game but, I had only played half way through before I gotten tired of it. I can't imagine putting more hours to beat a game I've already shown myself not to care for and than buy even more content for a game.

But, like myke said, if the reviews are glowing and its a brand new experience I might bite.

^ Maybe you shouldn't be playing GTA then.

The car physics in IV are vastly different than in any of the PS2/Xbox/PSP iterations. And not for the better, in my opinion. I'm also not the only one with this opinion. The lack of "give-a-fuck" in the long run for this game speaks to a number of things it failed to do properly when compared with the titles of the past. I suspect that it's not due to including Jimmy Gestapo, and possibly due to gameplay not being as fun as it normally is.

Which, is, of course, my longwinded and polite way of telling you precisely what you can do with your opinion...

silent h3ro
01-19-2009, 01:23 AM
Of course the physics/ handling is different. The previous 3D GTAs in the series were all using the GTA 3 engine, which is why they were so similar gameplay wise. GTA IVs direction is a more realistic and dark experience, and with that came more realistic physics all around. If you don't like the game then don't play/buy it. There are people who like this game just as much, if not more than the older Grand Theft Auto games despite what your opinion is. You do not speak for all gamers...

Yeah, much lower. I paid $7.50 for GTAIV (the second time). There is no way I'm buying a DLC add-on for 20 bucks.

I somewhat doubt this will be worth twenty bones. That's a fair chunk of change that could be spent on full/arcade games. If the reviews prove me wrong and this DLC is that magically delicious, then I may give it a second thought. That seems fairly unlikely, especially since I'm one of the ones that didn't think GTA4 was as great as some others believe.

I will definitely be getting it. It will basically be a new game in the same way Vice City was to GTA 3. That is all Vice City was, a full priced expansion. I think this DLC will be great and the price is just right IMO. I loved GTA 4! Sure the physics were a little unforgiving at times, but once you get used to the nuances in the controls there is nothing like it. While I prefer Saints Row 2 for the sheer fun factor (feels more like the old GTAs) GTA 4 is a masterful game in its own right and the Lost and Damned expansion will rock! Once people see the awsomeness, the $20 price will not be an obstacle and you will be thanking R* for giving us such a great value.

Except Vice City was a completely new game, in a new city, with new game-play mechanics, vehicles, weapons, cast, controls, ect.

That being said, I'm undecided. Hard-drive space on my 360 is really limited, and I'm at a point where everything on it is stuff I'm keeping. So at $20, I probably will pass, at $10 I'd definitely buy it.

I liked GTA4 but for 20 bucks I can get all kinds of stuff. I've been eyeing $30 Lost Odyssey for a couple weeks now. If that drops again it'll be a no-brainer.

I'll get the expansion if I can find some cheap points cards and actually pay 15 or less for it.

LegendK7ll3r
01-19-2009, 02:41 AM
It really just depends on how much content is in it for me. I'm perfectly fine with a $20 price point, I've spent close to $20 on broken games before (I'm looking at you, CC), so paying for something that actually works, would be a god-send (yes, I'm aware CC is now patched, but all of it's allure has worn off).

I need something to get me back into GTAIV anyway, now that I sadly do not have Saints Row 2 anymore (which I highly prefer).

oxidative
01-19-2009, 03:47 AM
If the DLC can make GTAIV fun like the other GTAs then I am definitely in. I don't see that happening. This DLC needs to be more than just a few hours of story. I want something fun to do in LC. Less serious, more entertainment please. I'm too weary from 30 hours of Niko's whining. Wah.

There will be new vehicles, weapons, and cast for the upcoming DLC... and perhaps "new parts" of the current city and for all we know different controls.

So in essence, this in more ways than not is a "completely new game" if not a "completely new experience."

Hell no. Motorcycles are the worst part of GTA...I'm still in shock that they designed the DLC around the biker gang.

01-19-2009, 12:30 PM
I also hated the new driving physics in GTA 4, but I got used to them enough so that they didn't completely ruin the experience for me, and overall I loved the game. I finished it to 100%, and at the time I finished it, buying DLC for it would have been a no-brainer for me.

Now, though.... I don't know. Maybe it's because sooooo much time has gone by, maybe it's the $20 price point, maybe it's because in the time since I finished GTA 4 I've played Saints Row 2 and vastly preferred it. Whatever, I'm on the fence now.

I guess for me it will probably come down to what other CAGs are saying about it after playing it: how much of a new experience is it, how many hours of gameplay does it give, is it worth $20?

OlDirtyBastard
01-19-2009, 12:45 PM
I sold my gta4 within the first 2 weeks of getting it. I enjoyed San Andreas so much that 4 was a huge let down. So in order to get the DLC I have to buy the game again which unless I hear that this is the best game ever, I just don't see a purchase in the future.

mzbagel
01-19-2009, 01:01 PM
Taking a pass on the DLC. While I enjoyed the characters and story, the gameplay stopped being fun like in the previous GTA games. I've been playing Saints Row 2 and it feels (not looks, just feels) like what GTA IV could have been. The controls are pretty good (driving could be better but...) and the game is just fun to play. GTA IV started to feel like work when flying a helicopter or playing through a long missing where you fail at the end. The DLC is not going to be enough to bring me back.

Is it almost February 17 already? It must be, because the new Grand Theft Auto 4: The Lost and Damned (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150593) achievements have been revealed. Rockstarwatch (http://www.rockstarwatch.net/news/683/Lost-and-Damned-Achievements-amp-New-Screen/) has the information on the new achievements as well as a new screenshot, which you can see above. Examples include "Get Good Wood," which entails whacking 69 bikers with a bat. Oh Rockstar, you're so witty.
Full list of achievements after the jump.

Get Good Wood (50 gp) In the Bike Races, whack off 69 bikers with a bat.
Easy Rider (100 gp) Finish The Story
Full Chat (70 gp) Your backup are riding at their best!
The Lost Boy (25 gp) All hail the leader of The Lost!

I do not support DLC in any form unless it is free- I don't want to spend mone on something I can't resell/collect (which is why I imported Siren NT) and I too am worried about games being release exclusively as downloads. Also, the entire GTA4 game could be had for $7.50, $20 for DLC is ridiculous. Also again, I think the game has lost its momentum and the DLC isn't that exciting.

Seriously?!?
What outfit you get to wear is a big determination on whether you get GTA content or not? That is suprising. I never really cared what Niko was in. Even though it 'supposedly' had an effect or your dates (other than dialogue, I saw no difference) I just pretty much stuck with the suit I needed from 4 Leaf Clover / The Interview. I think I changed into the GTA3 suit once just cause I had it. But clothes is the least of my concerns in GTA games.

Still wonder why so many failed to complete the storyline....

ChrisHookz
01-22-2009, 05:05 AM
Compared to San Andreas you would have thought there would have been more clothes then what they have to customize your character, but from what I read, since Niko is not the main character in the expansion I don't expect any new clothes for him, doesn't matter to me though i'm still buying.

. According to Rockstar, Lost and Damned will be equivalent to a third of GTA4's story missions, so the content is there. You just have to be willing to drop the cash.

So yeah, it seems like it'll be a ton of content. If you can get the game used for like $10 + $20 for this... that's NOT bad at all.

If you're a fan of the game, it's a simple buy no problems.

If you didn't like the GTA IV all that much then yeah I'd probably stay away... as for a price drop... that may be many many months...

He goes on to explain that while Liberty City returns in all its impressive glory in this first Grand Theft Auto 4 downloadable episode for Xbox 360 -- from its skyscraper-lined corridors to the scores of virtual people going about their virtual lives -- the story takes on a new direction. Rather than following the tale of an immigrant and having the player discover this grand city alongside him, The Lost and Damned tells the tale of Johnny Klebitz, the vice president of The Lost motorcycle gang (which you may remember from a mission in GTA4) and someone who knows the city well. So whereas Niko had to make friends and connections and unlock safe houses, Johnny is already an established member of the metropolis. The dichotomy between the game proper and its offshoot is immediately apparent upon setting up a game. When you choose the New Game option, you can select either Grand Theft Auto 4 or The Lost and Damned from the menu. The games are separate entities, and saves from your GTA4 game don't have any impact on your Lost and Damned experience (you can have a save in each). The only requirement is that you own GTA4 before purchasing this $20 episode. And while hopping around these menu options, you may notice some slight differences, like the menus' gold highlighted font appearing red in The Lost and Damned. More notably, the game will feature new music, weapons, characters, television programming, Internet, and minigames -- not to mention new multiplayer modes and "superpeds" (those pedestrians with one-off or multiple-mission ministories who appeared as blue people icons on the radar) that Barrera was still hush-hush about. But enough of the small details -- let's get to the goods.

The setup has second-in-command Johnny taking The Lost, in the absence of rehabbing president Billy, from a gang steeped in violence and drugs to one more focused on profit. But when Billy returns, he immediately goes back to his old habits. The first mission I played involved retaliation against a rival gang, the Angels of Death, and it introduced the powerful grenade launcher. Sending grenades over the Angels' cover, hearing the tink-tink-tink of the settling ordnance, and then watching the resulting explosion and rag-dolling enemies proved satisfying. Also in this mission -- as will be the case with most others -- you'll be doing it with multiple members of The Lost. While you don't have any sort of squad controls, your brethren will fight alongside you, giving you the sense that you are indeed part of a larger gang. This even translates to the road. When driving your custom bikes (which have tighter controls and are harder to fall off of compared to GTA4's bikes), you're encouraged to ride in formation, with an icon appearing on the ground for you to line up in if you fall behind. The Lost's safe houses, meanwhile, are filled with gang members and minigames, including arm wrestling and a high/low card game. When I compared it to the bustling home base of the Warriors gang in Rockstar's game of the same name, Barrera said that was pretty accurate.
The next mission hammered home the idea that while, yes, this is a separate story from GTA4's, it takes place in the same time and world. Remember that rollicking house party put on by Elizabeta, with Niko and Playboy X talking drug deals? Well, now you see it from Johnny's perspective, but this time, when that twitchy, overanxious undercover cop sours the deal at the buyers' place, you tackle the cops head-on while Niko and Playboy head up to the roof. The gunplay retains the same cover-based action as before, but with the addition of some new weapons. I already talked about the grenade launcher, but you'll also come across a punchy automatic pistol, pipe bombs, and sawed-off and assault shotguns, which can be used while on the two-wheelers.

http://www.1up.com/media?id=3674298&type=lg (http://www.1up.com/do/media?cId=3150593&sec=IMAGES) Click the image above to check out all Grand Theft Auto 4: The Lost and Damned screens.

The final mission I played also seemed familiar, but not because of the characters involved: It was a typical "turret" mission in which you ride shotgun -- in this case on the back of a motorcycle -- as the A.I. handles the driving duties. Appropriately enough, Johnny uses an unlimited-ammo automatic shotgun for the dirty work here, which packs an incredible punch as he takes out police cruisers and choppers. So yeah, this part felt like more of the same, but it was still fun in that "on-rails, light-gun" way, peppered with some cinematic yet still-interactive set-piece moments, including an exploding gas station that sees you popping through all Michael Bay-style.
It's encouraging that Rockstar had planned this content while creating GTA4. Johnny is present in some of those GTA4 cut-scenes (which fans with copious time on their hands will likely pore over now), and The Lost and Damned has been in development ever since that game finished. Still, that amounts to roughly a year, certainly a lot less time than it took to create GTA4. When I asked if they got everything they had hoped to in this first episode, Barrera says: "We never get everything we want in.... But are we happy? Absolutely...We delivered the best that we could for DLC."

Personally i liked the car physics. But i suppose if you didnt like it then it would be annoying since it is a major part of GTA :)

I liked the original physics better but I got used to and appreciated the physics in GTA4. What I absolutely hate though is the camera, you have to be constantly centering it behind your car. The driving physics is definitely more chanllenging by itself so the last thing I want to be doing is baby sitting the camera- it %100 ruined the game for me.

I just read on Joystiq that it's been priced at 1600 points. I don't really think thats too over the top I mean it says "between 10 and 20 hours of new gameplay" which is pretty good I think. How much was that Oblivion DLC? I'm pretty sure that was over 2000 points and how long was it (gameplay length)?

I think that should be what we compare the Lost and Damned to.

My main turn off is that you're not playing as Niko anymore. He was cool I don't want to be some other character. Although if they released a disc based addition of the it I may consider it - big file size = pain in the ass.

I wonder. Are there many examples of DLC where the price has dropped permanently? I know they do occasional "sales" but wasn't aware that MS regularly cuts prices once something's been up on Live for a while.

#1. considering some people dumb people paid $30 for Oblivion DLC this is cheap
.

As one of those 'dumb' people, the Shivering Isles expansion was more fun for me than most full priced games.

I'll be picking this expansion up since I have the points from MS point cards I got a Xmas presents. I'm one of those that thought Saint's Row 2 was more fun, but I played and beat both GTAIV and SR2 already, and I'm hoping that this expansion adds a little more variety to the missions that was lacking in the main game.

My only issue now is the fact that I'll probably keep hitting the left bumper for cruise control all the time after playing SR2.

I got the SI expansion for $20 at Best Buy, put it on my drive, then sold it on ebay for $25. XBLM needs to learn that lowering prices is key to increase sales. Hell, they still haven't lowered the price of PAA Episode 1 while it's less everywhere else now.

Anyways...still not buying it. It looks like more of the same to me, and you know what? I still don't want more GTA. Also, when are we going to see the results for this poll?

People keep talking about the price dropping but that really doesn't seem to happen on XBL (other than random sales that seem to focus on MUCh older/less desireable games). I guess you can hold out and hope they release it on disc (in which case you could pick up a used/discounted copy). But I for one will be very surprised if this just drops to $15 or $10 at some point in the next year or two.

Just read this on G4 news
According to Rockstar PR rep Steve Hahnel, “We wanted the new episodes to live up to the promise of downloadable content. So much of DLC is just a piece of new armor or a map pack. We’re delivering a full narrative, bigger than a lot of standalone games. The Lost and Damned is a serious story$ -- it’s not just biker gangway and f****** around.”

Digitally distributed content has no shelf life. There is no need for a sale to "make room." The price will stay high for as long as possible and only be reduced after the current pricepoint attains saturation...which won't be for a very, very long time. For everybody not willing to buy at this price, there's probably 10-15 consumers who will. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

10+ hours of gameplay, new vehicles, weapons, music, internet sites, tv shows. New environments to go into, more MP modes, better motorcycle controls. This game could sell for 30-40 bucks if it was on a disc. Its just like a "GTA liberty city/vice city stories" game they made for PSP/PS2. If anyone thinks 20 bucks is too much for this, they are crazy.

Well, I'd say 80% of the stuff on XBLM has gone far beyond their saturation points, especially themes (the old, crappy ones) and gamerpics for games YOU CANNOT GET ANYMORE. And what about DLC for games no one plays anymore either? Why charge for it if no one's playing?

Well i somewhat agree. Some people are just mr pinch penny, and want everything cheaper than regular price. But i think Braid was complained about, because when comparing it to other games on xbla, the price was higher than anything before it. So now comes GTA IV DLC thats 20 bucks! Is anything on XBLM that costs 20 dollars? Some people may see that as too much compared to the previous prices we have seen for DLC on other games. But comparing it to a full disc game that costs 60 dollars, or even one of the 2 GTA Stories games that cost 30 bucks, it seems like a cheap price to pay.

The IGN review kind of spoiled a little something, but not totally. Just a word of advice if you dont want anything spoiled.

So did they ever say anything about the things that are included in this content? I haven't been paying attention, but i know it adds a whole new story about a biker gang, but any extra places? also, i know motorcycles control better.

It adds a lot. I heard you can go into new buildings, new bikes, music added, new interwebs sites, tv shows. I just watched that IGN video and they showed air hockey tables, cards, arm wrestling matches, street gang fights, among other stuff. I dont care what IGN says, i think Johnny looks like a cool character and this seems to fix what GTA IV lacked in the fun department. Now you get a couple new weapons, bikes are fun to ride, and you can do stunts with them easier without falling off. Lets just hope the next DLC adds a tank, jet with rockets, and a jet pack. LOL

I also read about new MP modes....not sure if you have to buy the DLC to get these or not. But the races change to a biker race, with weapons...for more of a Road Rash style race. :) Here is a little more info (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/new-lost-and-damned-multiplayer-modes-detailed/) on MP modes

And dont forget to Lost and Damned up your avatar!
Microsoft has added a touch of leather to the Avatar closet, delivering biker themed clothing (http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/02/16/gta-iv-lost-and-damned-inspired-avatar-clothing-now-available.aspx) to celebrate the release of Grand Theft Auto IV's The Lost & Damned (http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/lost-and-damned) downloadable content.

As has been the norm (http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/avatars), all clothing is free and denoted by a yellow star in the Avatar customization application. Sadly, there is no miniature Avatar motorcycle to go with the new biker duds.

Unboxing video there. 2gb. Over 1.5gb confirmed. I called it!

That's just stupid! I mean if you buy the box version it should be on a DVD. The whole point about digital distribution is that you don't have to go to the store but if you did, in case of this, I would want my content in the box. Plus why add a map, I mean we all have the map from GTAIV?! I guess they needed something to put on the back of that poster lol.;)

I am torn about this DLC. I have the points sitting and ready to go and nothing else I am really saving them for...but still not sure. IGN's knocks against the story might be part of that. I will likely wait until I see what other CAGs, etc say about the experience.

And not to thread jack, but I thought this shirt was funny and kind of relevant again...

I have downloaded it, started it at 8:55 and was done by 10:10. Anyways, played it a little while and it seems pretty cool. I can definitely tell this is going to be a bit more graphic because of just the things I saw in the opening cinema. There is this new gang feature that "seems" cool, but I need to try it a bit longer to see if it is cool or just annoying. Apparently my members can die after I had trained them which sounds shitty.

been playing for about an hour and a half. I just saw the virtual penis.....

Controlling the bikes is WAY better albeit a little less realistic. The guys asses are GLUED to the seat. All in all I love the way that you dont fall when you just bump into something. The missions are good so far although I'm not a fan of Johnny's voice it just doesnt fit him. Billy is awesome though.

Hands down the winner of the show is the new weapons, they're fucking awesome. The new grenade launcher is awesome. I really wish they would let you use them in GTA IV

I just got done playing a couple missions. I stopped to eat. but from what i saw, it was cool. The menus are the same but different style text, but fresh new stats page. Riding motorcycles are a lot easier and when you hit something you dont automatically flip off. The presentation of the game is cool. I heard Wanted dead or alive by bon jovi while riding my bike. http://www.gamingring.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif There is a new filter they added to the game that adds noise to the screen. I think it kind of looks nice, gives the game a different feel to it compared to GTA IV main story. So far im liking it. The first safehouse is kind of torture to navigate through though. I havent played GTA IV since June of 08, but the character seems like he runs slower than niko. I dunno, im still getting used to the controls again.

Wow the mission "Off Route" sucks. I steal the bus and im driving around for like 10 minutes. I dont know how im supposed to lose the cops. The bus turns like shit, and everytime im about to lose the cops, near the edge of the circle, more cops are coming my way so i get placed into the middle of the circle again! I didnt try a pay n spray cos i figured that wouldnt work. Such bullshit.

EDIT: just beat that mission. LOL. Took me like 2 minutes. Just took a different route.

You can turn off the grainy effect. Go to display and turn off the "noise effect."

I don't know why rockstar does this with its games. It had that annoying blur motion in Vice City, thank god there was an option to turn it off.

Well i just beat the game. There are 23 missions in all. My time says 6 hours and 48 minutes, but i always reloaded a save when i failed a mission. So thats more or less how long it would take you to beat it if you passed each mission on the first try. Overall its pretty good, but short. But i cant complain for 20 bucks, its as long as some 60 dollar games. The story is okay, but the ending is disappointing in a way.

In the end...(dont read if you dont want to know the ending!)You end up losing mostly everyone in your gang, you quit the gang, and burn the gang hideout down. Now this makes no sense since you can do gang wars after you beat the game, and plus what was the point in having the wall of lost gang members if after you beat the game you cant see it? Plus it was a cool place to do arm wrestling, cards, pool, internet, tv, arcade, stripper...it had it all in one place. The 2nd safehouse you get is a piece of shit, and its really annoying trying to get around in there, nevermind it has NO FRONT DOOR.

I dunno....i like it but i dont really care for the ending too much.

IGN said in their video review, that a previous character Eddie Low would explaine how he escaped prison in this game. But i really didnt see him. I know there is a mission where you Take over a prisoner bus and help them escape into a boat. But i didnt see eddie, i could be wrong. But i dont think the guy who eats the officer is him. Is he?

The end credits are really cool though, i wont spoil that.... just watch them when you beat it. ;)

02-18-2009, 08:21 AM
Well my biggest reason for not buying this was I HATE riding motorcycles. They handle like crap and you go flying off if you hit anything.

But it sounds like you all are saying it's easier to ride them in L&D...and I just watched the IGN review so that all sounds awesome. I may have to pick it up. Haven't beat GTA IV yet so I may wait and see if it ever goes on sale anywhere (any chances of that?)

Liberty Rock Radio has some new tunes, I mostly listen to that now. It's nice to be able to play pool without the darn Massive B radio DJ and looped shouting. Although I'm not really into death metal but its a nice change. It's actually really hard to fall off your bike, I guess Johny is a biker and Niko is well not lol. I don't think you have to re-download it, just retry launching the game. It happened like after the fourth time.

Yeah after the 4th time freezing it started to behave itself, but it still does it.
Now it's just at random moments. It can go anywhere from 5 to 50 minutes to HOURS before freezing. No way of telling when it will happen.... but it's still happening.

I'm really enjoying LaD. I wasn't the biggest fan of gta iv and while I still think it's too much drive here, drive there gameplay, they vary it up enough to keep it interesting and bikers are an aspect of criminal lifestyle that rockstar hasn't covered yet so the BROTHER-HOOOD and driving as a gang parts are really cool.

So how much of the Lost and the Damned content (if any) can I access from just loading up GTA IV? Like can I do the new mini games with Nico and do the new multiplayer stuff while loading up the old too?

Oh and I realize it's all paid content, in case that sounds wacko. I just mean how seperate the materials are.

When's the last time you did maintenance on your hard drive, sounds like a hard drive problem to me. Hit Y under settings memory of your hard drive and then the combination, X, X, LB, RB, X, X.. GL

Yea wow, the only gripe I have is that cops that hit you during a chase or getaway when you're on your bikes are dicks, you go flying and its all over. You either die from the crash or you get stranded with very little health. I was doing the Marta mission and I got hit by a cop car and I flew off my bike over the bridge supports and into the water below, dead...
I just did Shifting Weights and I must have died 5 or 6 times because I didn't have any body armor and there was no health pickups on the way, seriously poorly designed but awesome mission!:bomb: Although the checkpoints were appreciated especially since after dying and it loaded one of the checkpoints I had full health lol.:bouncy:

Earlier in the year I beat GTAIV, then beat Saint's Row 2, and was looking forward to this content. Now that I'm playing it I am enjoying the content, but I keep trying to do stuff from Saint's Row 2. During one of the first missions I kept trying to figure out which button was cruise control, man do I wish they'd steal that function.

I like the story so far and the production value is great. All the additional stuff is certainly worth the price. However I was already tired of the 'Go Here, Kill This, Drive Back' missions from GTAIV. I'm glad that they are mastering how they tell a story in a video game, but does Rockstar really need to sacrifice mission variety to do so?

Yeah that's what I figured too. I cleaned up the HD a bit and then did the maintenance thing. Nothing really works. Actually right after trying maintenance and cleaning it froze right away. This time at a cut scene it said "loading" and just stayed there. I let it go thinking it was just taking a long time to load.... but 10 minutes made me thing it was stuck again. Odd thing was I could bring up the blades and go to the dash again this time.

*shrugs* Problems are widespread for a lot of people so I fugure it's just a thing some of us are going to have to deal with for right now.

Nope. I just found out other games are now having problems.
Apparently it has something to do with not reading discs correctly. It gets to a "loading point" and because it's not reading correctly it just sits there. I can hear it spinning but it's not reading.

God this is my 2nd one and I JUST got it. Looks like it's coffin time already!

Does having GTA IV installed affect anything in the DLC? Just wondering.

I played about 2 missions so far. Really haven't played around yet. I didn't even realize it was still Liberty City until I checked the map.

I've gone through 9 missions, a few races (I hate racing on bikes. :/), and a few gang wars. Definitely happy with my purchase. The gang wars alone will be a good hour, at least.

$20 is a lot. How much gameplay is this, related percentage-wise to the main game?

A good 7 hours if you beat every mission on first try and dont do anything but missions. There are only 23 missions. But with the extra dialog, music, vehicles, side missions, extras....if you take your time, read the net after events happen, call up buddies for hanging out, at least 10-12++ hours.

Are the seagulls like the pigeons or do you just shoot random seagulls out of the air?

They glow orange and sit in one spot just like pigeons. For 100% I assume it's just like the normal story. Win all the bike races, gang wars, 100% liked by surviving friends, beat all surviving friends at least once in each activity (including the new games liek arm wrestling), all jobs, random character missions, most wanted (if there are any new ones).
