I think you'll be able to run it but its going to be all messed up on your tv. PAL tvs run native 50 hz while NTSC ones are 60.

A lot of Eur DC games have a 50/60 Hz option when you first boot the game. Some auto-detect what the DC natively boots in. Either way you'll still need a boot disc if you're playing it on an unmodded US DC.

You can buy a boot disc to change the signal. I have one if you cant find one online or from someone that I would be willing to sell for fairly cheap or trade to you for something.

Oh yeah, btw you don't have to buy a boot disc. They were intended for free distribution, so you can download it and burn it yourself. So its not piracy. Please Cheapy don't smack me down :?
EDIT: I mean the boot disc to run import games, not the one CaseyRyback's talking about to change the signal. I haven't heard of those.

What burning program do you use punqsux? Discjuggler seems to be the best to burn DC stuff in my experience. Plus you gotta use high quality media or else the DC won't be able to read it...

I don't think it changes the signal, but when promted it asks the region and stuff like that (sorry for the confusion)

I have the newest Utopia, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't ask for the region. Where are you getting this game from, maybe you can ask them if there's a frequency selection menu.

I've never had any luck using a utopia boot disk, maybe it's my cds or burner but it just won't run on my DC. Plenty of other apps I've used but Utopia just won't work for me.
I own Shenmue 2 PAL for the DC and it runs fine on a us tv. I use a gameshark to play my imports.

i use a gameshark lite, or a codebreaker. both work great as a boot disc.

It works fine on US using a Utopia 1.1.
There's no need to get anything to change the siginal. If I remember, Big Ben (the Euro company distributing Sega Dreamcast games at the end) realized that the cancellation of the US version of Shenmue II would mean alot of US importers so they put in both frequencies into the game.

I'm really lucky when it comes to anything DC.
I have Shenmue 2 Eur copy and no boot disk is needed :P
How much is the real game selling for btw?
Anyone into DC trading please post.

Also some Pal games on ntsc will run in a border box, sorta like what happens during widescreen presentation, however you will also have black boxes on the sides
