Ok so i work at target and last week they had the $20 psn cards on sale for the KILLER price of $19. I picked one up and was charged tax. This week theyre not on sale, and just today i scanned a xbox live card and it wasnt taxed...Sooooooo i was curious and picked out a psn card and pretended to ring up the sale-this time though, it rang up with no tax. Whats up with that? Hmmmmmm....weird.

I was not charged tax when I purchased the card, but I was charged tax on my purchases on the PSN. Its pretty bunk that tax is charged.

Wow thats messed up. So it seems that i may be charged tax again when i redeem the card online...if that happens i'll surely be double pissed.

I think someone said that each state has different laws regarding how this stuff is handled.

Pro-tip: Change your (personal) address to a state that doesn't charge tax on PSN purchases. I switch my state to Miami, FL, 33030 whenever I need to buy something.

For a PSN Card its YMMV on salestax. Meijer use to charge tax, but they stopped (the first store to ever get in PSN Cards).
As for the PS Store itself, the only states that get taxed are states where you get taxed for online purchases (like OH, CA, etc.).

I've bought three $50 cards at three different stores here in Texas, and I was charged tax at two of them (Blockbuster and Target, Wal-Mart being the place where I wasn't charged). The most recent one I bought was the one where I wasn't charged, so hopefully all stores have or plan to follow suit.

Update: I redeemed the card online, and bought mega man 9, no tax.
So the lesson i learned is: Dont buy stuff on sale.....

Like it was mentioned, it depends on where you live... Or where you SAY you live that makes you have to pay taxes via the PSN or not.

I don't pay tax on either cards or PSN purchases. The cards are gift cars essentially, and you shouldn't be charged tax for gift cards.
