As of late I've been hearing about dead ps3s more than ever. It seems that the problem in most cases is a malfunction called YLOD, which is the result of the motherboard solder in the ps3 being lead free and cracking up when the console heats and cools.
Unfortunately for ps3 owners like me, it seems this problem is more of an issue for the early adopters or the ones that sought after a ps3 with full backwards compatibility.
More Info here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=3629439
Now I'm not sure how big of an issue this is, which is the main reason I've created this thread. So If you have had a ps3 die on you, it would be greatly appreciated if you talk about it here.
For example if your ps3 has died on you please list some or all of the following:
-What type of ps3 was it(launch 60gig bc, 80gig, 20gig, and etc.)
-If you sent it back to Sony, how well did that go?
-Do you leave your console on? (Basically meaning is the red light on your ps3 most of the time in order to conveniently turn it on via controller)
-Was your console vertical or horizontal, or both most of the time?
-How often do you play?
List of People: (Here I'll try to update a list of people that have had dead ps3s, along with their console type/basic info so we can get a sense of how big or little the problem is)
