Games crashing

I have two HDD on my computer's and both of them can not hold games running. I can play them for some time each time. It seems random because there is no set time that it crashes. The screen goes black and it plays the sound file it was playing before. It does not go to the desktop, it just freezes at black. I have to manually restart my computer. When I restart it, it says my IDE drives will not load. Any help would be great.

How do you know its the HDD?
Change anything recent with your comp?
Has it ever worked in the past?
