Probably one of the best HD-DVD deals I've seen yet. Free shipping on orders over $25 and a huge selection (181 movies as of 5/10), much better than Inetvideo's. Orders are fullfilled by Amazon, so orders over $25 get free Super Saver Shipping. I thought I was done collecting HD-DVD's, but this sale made it easier to get some of the movies that aren't must-haves. Getting 11 movies for $65 is nice! Yeah, I put in an order for 7 movies for about $42 a couple of hours ago.

It's astonishing that my HD-DVD collection is now at almost 50 movies, but these deals are too good to pass up.

Are they going to discontinue making HD movies since blu ray pretty much won the battle? Is that why they're so cheap?

They discontinued the whole HD format some time ago.

Picked up:

Dazed and Confused
Lost in Translation
The Deer Hunter
Happy Gilmore

And I started an Amazon Prime trial so I should get them by Wednesday. I figured why not, because I'm still waiting for the other 5 or so movies I ordered early last week.

Thanks for the post OP

I wish they'd start discounting the Warner Brothers HD-DVD's at this same price point as I still want to pick up Batman Begins and V for Vendetta on HD-DVD. There's some decent titles here, but most I already own on SD-DVD and don't feel its enough of an upgrade to double dip even at $6 a pop.

I ordered:

This sucks. I hate combo discs but for free shipping the price is well worth it. I would pick some up however I just bought some from that other deal and I really need to stop puting so much on my credit card. Maybe after taxes other deal will come up and I can get my credit card paid off enough for me to buy some.

There's more than one seller offering FSSS on HD-DVDs. I went looking for Hot Fuzz and found this seller (merz67) has 8 HD-DVDs, a few of which aren't in the huge list from the OP's seller anymore.

Most notably:

Hot Fuzz $5.89
The Breakfast Club $7.75

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_?url=me%3DA1FBKBVZ17OIZW&field-keywords=hd+dvd

Of course, the way HD-DVDs are now, you can pretty much get a mint copy from Amazon of anything from a reseller on Amazon for under $10 shipped right now.

I'm glad most of you got in on this sale. I guess they sold out pretty quick, got deal from SD. I just got Corpse Bride and watched it yesterday and it's amazing how good that looks on HD-DVD. Movie's not as good as NBC, but art is amazing in HD. I think this last order of 11 should hold me over, have Top Gun on the way too from another order and can't wait to crank the surround sound!

You gotta figure there are weeks that HD-DVD moves a pretty good amount of units. I've bought about 15 HD-DVDs in the last 2 weeks... it takes me like a year to get 15 Blurays!

(I know, I know... it's not the same.. but definitely shows price is a huge factor!)

consoleman
01-29-2009, 11:13 AM
Wishful thinking, but I wish the HD-DVD camp can make a case for how many units they are actually moving (albeit at a discount) and breathe some new life into the format. Imagine the headlines "HD DVD outsells Blu-ray 5 to 1 in 2009". OK, I'm just making up the numbers but it could happen.

I also ended up picking up a few of the $5.00 titles that I had been on the fence about.

Yep. They've added more since last night. Serenity definitely wasn't there last I checked, and I would easily recommend that to anyone. I also saw Hustle and Flow today that wasn't there yesterday.

I think I've put in an order every time I've visited that page. Eventually I'm just going to own everything from that list reguardless of if I want to see it or not if I keep going like this. My prime shipping has these coming in two days after I order and inet takes forever, plus I don't have to order $50 worth to get free shipping, so I can just pick them up one or two at a time.

I just placed an order also w/ Amazon and they just dropped a few more for $5/HD-DVD!!! So much for saving $$$, I just can't stop buying from all these great deals!! I think for a discontinued format, it's definitely worth picking up HD-DVDs, because it's CHEAPER than a movie ticket or the regular DVDs!!!

I finally caved at the $5.00 price point. The extra movie (versus $5.94 for 4 plus a filler) pushed me over the edge.

1 "Serenity [HD DVD]" - (Blind buy - haven't watched Firefly YET)

1 "Friday Night Lights [HD DVD]"

1 "The Big Lebowski [HD DVD]"

1 "The Warriors (The Ultimate Director's Cut) [HD DVD]"

1 "The Heartbreak Kid [HD DVD]"

I bought Batman Begins & V for Vendetta at Half.com for about $10 shipped last week too. I might be done with the HD-DVD's unless I find a killer deal on Sopranos Season Six Pt 1 & 2 sometime in the future. I kind of want to get Serenity, but I know nothing about it. I never watched Firefly. Decisions, decisions.

i'd pass. i didn't watch show either, and it's pretty cheesy. unless you're into the show, you can't appreciate the movie i guess. aeon flux was better IMO, but still not great sci-fi.

Dammit! I just ordered five more. There were actually a few more tempting ones, but I'm going to hold out and see if we get any more price drops first.

Oh, and mick16, I highly suggest you watch the Firefly tv series before watching Serenity. I watched Serenity blind and hated it, but then got the DVD box set for Firefly and watched it all in order and it is now one of my favorite movies.

Anybody else seeing their orders delayed in transit recently? Know FSSS isn't all that fast, but my first order from "closeoutmovies" shipped on 1/20 and arrived 1/26.

First order from "traderbora" shipped on 1/27 with a estimated arrival date of 2/04. Nothing yet, however, and tracking still only shows the package leaving Fernley, NV on the 27th.

Mainly just surprised that the buying experience can differ so much, even though both sellers roll up to the same company.

That's because it's relying on the fantastic USPS. Depends on whose hands your package makes it to. 60% of the Post Offices I've seen that have handled my deliveries don't really scan the Delivery Confirm Label.

Like the guy above me said, USPS. I don't have any gripes with them, but you get what you pay for. I opted to return something to an ebayer via parcel post rather than priority, and it took my package 4 days to get from right outside Hartford, CT to Springfield, MA.

You might not know New England well, but I am not lying when I say I can fucking drive to Springfield in 30 minutes, and that's being generous.

If you want your stuff fast, buy Prime (or do a trial).

Agreed on Prime, lolwut. Thought about upgrading, but I actually don't mind the slower shipping, plus the longer lead time until shipment is great if I change my mind about an order or want to delay credit card charges for a few days.

It's just the poor tracking and the missed delivery estimate that concern.

Usually they never miss the delivery estimate for me, because they quote it so high that it will come beforehand. The tracking is ass though, I'll give you that.

Prime is good, but I don't think I'm going to lay down $80 when my trial ends. Just start your trial at the start of a good sale (like when these HD-DVDs were first popping up on CAG), and you'll get a month of fast delivery.

The only thing that scares me is it's delivered by UPS, and they just don't give a fuck.

Some of my titles shipped 1st Class. A larger order I placed went Media and took several days longer to receive.

USPS transit times completely vary depending on what they're doing at the time, how much mail is being processed, and so on and so forth. Just how it is. It's like when I sell something on Ebay, ship it within 24 hours, and then the buyer complains to ME about the duration of how long it takes to get there. Sellers aren't responsible for transit times -- and neither are vendors like Amazon. You're at the mercy of the USPS and sometimes it's more effective than others.

I ordered BrokeBack Mountain. I always wondered how good it was plus I was interested to see Heath Ledgers performance. I wish I would of thrown flags of our fathers in my cart. Oh well. For the price of a rental, it isn't bad. I still get a lot of use out of my HD-DVD player. Great quality and great audio just nothing to look forward down the road. luckly there was a ton of great hits released on it. Now if I could find batman begins and Sean of the dead, i'd be set.

Place an order for 6 title on Feb 5th and received them today. $5 a title with free shipping is pretty sweet. I am considering doing the whole village and ordering another 10 or 20. I don't think you can beat $5 a title for HD.

I got BD and have even replace some of my HD-DVDs when amazon ran a special and I got the BD version for less than $8 a title so I know that prices of BD will come down. However, it is really hard to pass on $5 a title even if it is HD-DVD.

Don't know how I missed this the first time. Perhaps I've been scanning the forums to much this week.

Glad to hear that. I had a mild interest in this movie when it came out but kept ignoring it every time I have the chance to rent it from a library I worked at. But like you said, my interest was raised after Ledger landed the Joker role and more so after his passing. Thanks for the serious response. The first response from my friends is always replied by a joke but I have a big sense of humor. I'm looking very forward to it now. Thanks again

I'm buying titles I really don't want now just because they're so cheap.

I'm guessing now is about the time when every single HD-DVD player on the planet breaks at the same time.

The seller is probably one of those businesses that buys back unwanted/unsold items from stores for super cheap and sells them for a modest profit. I wonder when or if we'll get more than Universal and Paramount.

Just an FYI, 179 titles right now but all of the new titles are priced much higher ($9.99, $14.99, $19.99).

Sahara $19.99
Hulk $9.99
The Getaway $9.99
The Frighteners $14.99
Darkman $14.99
The Untouchables $14.99
The Thing $9.99
Apollo 13 $14.99
The Last Starfighter $14.99
Shaun of the Dead $14.99
The Chronicles of Riddick $14.99

Most of the $5 titles are still $5 but several have moved into the $5.99, $6.99, $7.49 and $7.99 price.

Yikes, I thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I've traveled through the middle east extensively, and I thought it was a pretty overt, disgusting example of trying to make money off of people's fears and misunderstandings. (this is the one with Jamie Foxx in Saudi Arabia...right?)

I'd rather watch Fox News and listen to Michael Savage for my dramatic story telling and lies.

isn't it a movie? not a docu? i just meant it's an entertaining movie, sure they threw the politics in the beginning, but in the end it was cool how it showed we both view the other side as the monster. i liked how intense the end was and i don't think it was a fear-monger like some movies can be. then again, never been out there.

Whew! I'm glad I picked up a few more before heading to work this morning! I saved about $5 for being impatient, awesome!! Picked up Battlestar Galactica for 9.99 as opposed to 12.99!

Prices are currently down just a lil' bit again. The $5 movies are down to $4.64, but most noteworthy is that Heroes and Battlestar Galactica are down to $9.44 if anyone hasn't picked those up yet.

I am so glad I grabbed this player a few weeks ago. You can't beat these prices for movies. Combining the movies I'm buying today and the one I got when I first bout the 360 addon, I'm getting 12 movies for around $55. Hard to beat that.

The selection is much weaker now than when HD DVDs were first being sold for $5. Really the only one I still want that is $5 is Hustle & Flow, and Sparticus a little bit. Wake me up when I can get all the WB titles for $5 =\

WHat are the new titles?

Its pretty much the same titles as before. The only difference right now is the price on most of them is $4.74. The only one I paid more for on is "Land Of The Dead" at around $5ish. Still six HD-DVDs for under $30 is damn good.

Inetvideo doing their monthly free shipping on orders over $50. The titles that were 1.99 for the most part went up to 2.99 or 3.99, but considering you can score free shipping on everything, it's actually a pretty good deal. Same disclaimer as usual: Expect most of these titles will have English and French on the covers (movie will of course be in English), so collectors beware.

You're not looking close enough. For example - Fear and Loathing in las Vegas. Click on the product, says 1 used @ 4.17. Click on that. You get taken to this - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000GFLEJA/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&m=A2LCOF6C3HGT6M&qid=1242338391&sr=1-4&condition=used

I just picked up another 6 HD-DVD's for $25 and change (just enough to get me to free shipping). I wish they'd start selling some WB HD-DVD's as i'm running out of Universal / Paramount HD-DVD's that I want or don't already own.

I bought 13 movies new for $50.86 from them 2 days ago using this deal. I have been debating it for some time, but the e-mail pushed me to do it.

These films are marked at $1.99 right now...

Cinderella Man [HD DVD]
Serenity [HD DVD]
Happy Gilmore [HD DVD]
Friday Night Lights [HD DVD]
Babel [HD DVD]
Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) [HD DVD]
Top Gun [HD DVD]
Inside Man [HD DVD]
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Unrated) [HD DVD]
Old School (Unrated) [HD DVD]
Arctic Tale [HD DVD]

...but they don't qualify for free shipping anymore, so they actually cost about the same as the average normal prices. Does traderbora think we're fucking stupid?

They probably just ran out of movies that Amazon can ship so they dropped the prices to keep them about equal to what they were before.

Thanks OP - took some time paring the list down, but it looks like I expanded my library by quite a bit:

Lost in Translation
Meet Joe Black
Hot Fuzz
Beowulf
The Pianist
40 yr old virgin

Total: 25.08 w/ FSSS

yup, i grabbed a few more (6 titles) for 25.35 with FSSS. The good news is that i am running out of titles that i want with my collection heading closer to 80 movies!! Soon the temptation will be gone.. :)

I noticed the price drop after placing an order also. I checked an order had not shipped yet. I was going to cancel and place new order. I checked if all 6 were in stock and added to my cart. I went back to cancel order and now it said shipping soon. Is Amazon using some kind of computer progam to make sure we don't cancel and place order for cheaper price or just coincidence?:bomb:

many of the movies that qualify for free shipping have increased significantly. For example, MI3 is now 12.99 and Bourne Supremacy is now 16.99. A number of titles are still around the $2 mark but do not qualify for free shipping. Still not too bad of a deal.

Free shipping on orders over $25. Orders are fullfilled by Amazon, so orders over $25 get free Super Saver Shipping LINK (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUT F8%26rs%3D%26sort%3Dpmrank%26ref%255F%3Dsr%255Fst% 26keywords%3Dhd-dvd%26me%3DA2Q7JFWUPSYRTJ%26qid%3D1232904807%26rh% 3Dk%253Ahd-dvd%26page%3D1&tag=cheapassgam08-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957)

Is it just me or is this misleading? I checked and it says "shipped from and sold by Traderbora" on all the movies I selected... Sure you can go and pay $10 more per movie to get it "fulfillment by amazon" which makes those movies "eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping". I fail to see where this is a deal if you have to pay $2.99 shipping on each movie from Traderbora. Yes the .99c movies are an alright deal at $4 total but there are only a small handful of those. Feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

27 Items - $44.23
Shipping - $80.46
Promotion Applied - -$17.40
Total = $107.29

it looks like the deal off FSSS is dead for now but it will be back!! :) Also those movies from traderbora were not included with the FSSS so yeah they will be charging for shipping and that kind of kills the deal. :(

Ah okay that explains it then, thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why the link was to the movies from Traderbora and then had the OP text with what I quoted about FSSS. Thanks again.
