From the ashes of old conflicts, a new terror arises. The Umbrella Corporation and its crop of lethal viruses have been destroyed and contained. But a new, more dangerous threat has emerged. Years after surviving the events in Raccoon City, Chris Redfield has been fighting the scourge of bio-organic weapons all over the world. Now a member of the Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSSA), Chris is sent to Africa to investigate a biological agent that is transforming the populace into aggressive and disturbing creatures. Joined by another local BSSA agent, Sheva Alomar, the two must work together to solve the truth behind the disturbing turn of events. Capcom's Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition Exposed!
Capcom is pleased to announce the Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition. First teased last week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, the Collector's Edition will be available on day one of the game shipping Friday, March 13, 2009. Available for only a limited time, gamers will be able to pre-order the collectible set starting today at the Capcom store at www.capcom.com (http://www.capcom.com). On launch date, the set will be available at all major retailers in North America with a price of $89.99 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.
For fans of the highly popular series, the box set is not to be missed as it will include a host of never-before-seen collectible items not available anywhere else. All designed around RE5's Kijuju setting and the game's in-depth storyline, the box will include a Tricell messenger bag, Chris Redfield figurine, BSAA patch and Kijuju-inspired pendant.
Bringing the entire collection together is a custom made steel case with special art showcasing signature elements of the RE5 campaign - the Kijuju writings, ominous number five and two-player co-op. Inside the steel case is where the real action lies, with a two disc set including the game and bonus disc with additional special features. The Making of Resident Evil 5 feature, first shown at the Tokyo Game Show, will be released on the bonus disc for the first time. A digital art gallery showcasing the game's incredible HD graphics and impressive art style and a Resident Evil Degeneration Trailer will top off the special features making a bonus disc that is a must-have for all Resident Evil devotees.

It's a pretty good demo, though I really didn't like how you have to access your inventory in real time.

I downloaded the demo on xbl, and the demo on psn. I can't decide which version I rather have. It comes down to which controller I rather use, and would I rather play on psn or xbl. I doubt I'll find anyone to play co-op with so I'm mostly just concerned about which controller I rather use.

Just curious to know if its any good or not and how long it took you to dl it.
Are you really asking for impressions of the demo? Not trying to be an ass but that's why it's a demo, it's free, and intended for you to get your own impressions. Right?
It's a pretty good demo, though I really didn't like how you have to access your inventory in real time.
It's still downloading for me, but I'm looking forward to that change, in theory. It always bothered me that you could pause the game, heal yourself, change weapons, etc., it really took some of the tension away from some of the scarier boss fights.
That, and real-time inventory access (if that's the right term?) really added to the suspense in Dead Space, so as long as they do it well, I'm all for it.

yep i am. i hadnt dled it yet and because of the hype around the game im curious if anyone has any diff impressions on it based off the demoand i was curious about how long it took people to dl since most of my dls tend to run at the hour hour pluss mark for bigger demos. yes its not a final copy but having finally played it i see why peple would say its basically re4 but a bit better.
the co op option is cool though but now my major question is whether the game is really short and if down the road theyre going to release another version or something. i personaly like to gather game infromation from actual gamers over game reviews. the more questions you ask the better understanding you can come away with imo.

I have no idea what I'm doing either and from the looks of it, so was my partner online. All I know is that I was suppose to try kill the boss. Boy do I suck at this game. You can set it to where you can invite people on your friendlist, I'm playing right now and it's much better than a random person.
It's kinda stupid the way they have it set up, you have to put co op limit to partner, and than go to the xmb and do it from there.

I played both stages, so here's my view (RE4 is my Game of Forever):
It's a solid RE 4.5 with weaker level design (at least from the demo) and co-op. Strafing is nice.
I'll pick it up at the $30-$40 range.
If anyone liked this demo a lot I highly suggest The Club. Very cool and cheap game.

I'm going to admit. I was NEVER into any PS1 RE game and wasn't really into RE4 on GC when I rented it on GC (but can acknowledge it was a good game). I decided to play the demo to RE5, since the game has been getting a lot of hype and I'm into survival horror games more now than I use to be. From what I played of both levels, I actually really like the game, although I didn't survive (wasted too many bullets, lol). While I wanted this game, I wasn't 100% certain about buying it. Now I'm 100% sure I'm buying it.
I like the way the invite system works, where I press the PS Button and say invite player. I hope more games do that.

I feel the same way as you do, Mana, I played every single RE game but never gotten too far in them. With the co-op mode I think I will buy this game. If it came out tomorrow I would grab it. Hopefully when it does still come out I'll still want it. Anybody have any idea how long the game supposely will be?

the freakin controls do take getting used to ( i swear in the last game you could pick up items with x) but I wonder how when playing online you will deal with gold. with each level you complete do they add up all the gold and everyone splits it or is it every man for themselves? i envy those of you who got to play the re online games on ps2. before i ever got around to getting any of them the servers had already been shutdown.

Just finished playing through the demo and I can say that if you liked RE4, you're going to like this game. From the demo, it felt like RE4 with prettier graphics.
And I didn't mind too much about the controls. Again, if you're used to RE controls then you should know what to expect.
From what I've played, I'd give it an 8/10.

Yea, there is voice chat. When I was playing with random people, people either didn't have a mic or were talking randomly to themselves and not communicating to advise me what was going on and such. There isn't a button or anything to press, it's always on unless you have the official mic with the mute.

It was a little worse than I was expecting. Graphics/controls are great but the knife seemed fairly useless and there was way too much action between having more zombies and a partner running around for the game to be scary in the least. Also not a fan of the new weapon switching system but I guess with coop it would be kind of lame to pause the game to switch. Only other thing I can think of is that it's even more obvious than in RE4 that the zombies stop attacking you for a while after one hits you. Occasionally there would just be a half dozen zombies just standing around Chris just waving their prison shanks in the air for 10 seconds to give you time to shoot them.
I'm still going to buy it and enjoy it but I really doubt I'll like it anywhere near as much as 4.

The framerate is off on the PSN demo. Like...really off. It was like 20-25 fps. But for some reason, the PS3 version looked better than the 360 version. I don't know what's going on here, but it confirms to me that RE5 is not a purchase for me.

Was it 20-25 fps? Seemed fairly smooth to me. Though I only played the multiplayer online with my friend. Hardly any hitches. Twas quite fun, though I wouldn't play this on my own haha. Time to chill at my friend's place more often come the end of Feb/March lol.

Never played a Resident Evil before. Downloaded the demo and the controls and AI stood out in a bad light. Really annoying having to deal with Sheva's camera, why can't they just map a "switch camera position button" like Uncharted:DF did? Pretty slow to using the inventory whilst in action. Knife is only good against boxes (you need to move with the knife damn it!). I guess the fans will like it, looks like a pass for me.

Real Time inventory takes a little getting used to but I love it, makes the action flow smoothly while trying to help your partner out, all in a holy crap way too when a bunch of enemies are gunnin for ya
I too hate the camera angle they give you for Sheva, I was friggin' annoyed looking in vain for some way to change the camera view.
Other than that I'm definitely picking this up on launch, online co-op looks like hella fun, I just hope the game is big enough to keep it from getting stagnant for awhile, but I wonder how it'll handle for people who randomly team up with someone who's farther than them in the game, like a major spoiler of sorts unlike R2 co-op which was totally seperate from the main storyline.
I was looking forward to trying out the XMB invite system, but Mana was the only one on and he was playing with someone else already.

I think the controls are fine, and the graphics look really nice, awesome fire effects on the exploding barrels/incendiary grenade.
I think Sheva for the most part was fine in combat, but i felt like i was fighting to move around her anytime she didnt have anything to shoot at.
Yeah, I'm not sold on the constant partner swarming around me and grabbing things I wanted to pick up for myself (she can go to hell, she can go to hell and die for all I care). I hope there's an easy mode because I am not at all quick on the trigger for these types of controls (maybe just out of practice) but I enjoy the core gameplay

The only thing that bothers me is that she burns through ammo like no tomorrow. I hope there is some way to change her tactics in the retail version, otherwise I'm gonna hog all the ammo.
I also hope there is a way to change the amount of ammo you want to give someone, instead of a fixed amount at 30. I wanna be able to split 30 in half if that is ALL the ammo that I have, and so on...

02-04-2009, 01:15 PM
The gameplay is alright, although I'm not sure how different it can possibly be from RE4 just from the glimpses that demo gave us. I was kinda hoping for more environmental interactivity besides blowing up canisters and shoving crap in front of windows/doors. I want to be able to set up elaborate "not zombie" destroying death traps or bring down buildings on top of these things. I think they need to figure out if they want to make a slower paced suspense horror game or a balls out action game. Because as it is, it's just doing a mediocre job at both.
lokizz
02-04-2009, 01:20 PM
playing this game solo is going to be damn annoying. re4 could be hard at times on your first play through but having to retool your way of plying to compensate for an ai character is very difficult. i finally beat both demo levels with her on single player and i feel they did this as some kind of odd way to add difficulty to the game. imagine havin to deal with that chainsaw boss from re4 or those twin chainsaw chicks from re4 while also having to deal with keeping this chick alive.
at least in re4 you could stuff that chick in the trash and handle your business but now you cant. also will they add a wait here commnd in the final version because theres times it would have been beneficial to have her wait somewhere instead of her being in the way. i also hope theres a way to get her to use specific weapons outside of just taking her handgun ammo.
the item use/trade system will get alot of people killed in situations too.

Thought the demo was fantastic. My only complaint is that I can't switch square and X because that's how it was in re4 on ps2 (right?).
I really don't understand what the huge deal was that everyone was complaining about. My theory is because all the impressions were coming from 360 owners who were most likely expecting some run and gun action game like Gears and have never actually played a RE title.
Anyway, game looks to be amazing and there's no doubt my $90 CE will be worth it.
ohvermie
02-04-2009, 05:46 PM
I think the game is good because more RE4 is never a bad thing. However, things have changed in the last couple of years (due to the release of run and gun action games like Gears) and the bar has been lifted higher. I'm not asking for cover systems or anything that doesn't fit into a RE title, but I'd like to see the controls refined a bit more than the current still tank-ish style controls. As it is, RE5 is like an RE4 expansion (same gameplay, prettier graphics, new scenarios), and by no means is this bad, I was just hoping for more refinement.

Now that i played it a few more times i'm enjoying it more. Oddly Sheva didnt start circling me this time, i guess it was kind of a random occurance where she got stuck in front of me and couldnt get back around.
I too wish you could leave Sheva in certain places, like in the Public Assembly level, you could have her climb up the outside of the building (the area where the executioner couldn't go) and cover you with the rifle, while you dealt with enemies on the ground. Similar to how she does when you assist her in climbing the ladder in the Shanty Town level, but user initiated.
I also wish there was some sort of way to at least knock down enemies while you are running. I believe Dark Sector had something like that and it was a big help (yes, not the greatest game in the world, but it had its moments)
The game gives you a good feeling of panic, just not the same kind as previous REs.

^ I'm with you on those suggestions
While these areas in the demo are out in the open and in daylight, I'm pretty sure Capcom didn't forget what made it scary in the first place (at least I hope not completely), so I'm looking forward to the creepy, dark enviroments, or at least the ones they've showed in earlier trailers.

Sorry to keep making posts but, one more thing i enjoyed once i found it. I didnt like the real time inventory at first, until i figured out you can switch weapons/items with the D-Pad. Makes it much faster to pass things off to Sheva and switch to a loaded gun in a pinch.

I'm thinking it may be related to the spots where they are in your inventory, one time I was using up for the handgun, left for the shotgun. But then when i did the Shanty Town, the rifle was the down button.

im wondering if with this new item system too will that mean the end of item space growth. can you add more squares or will that be all you get ? and if thats it then how annoying will it be to collect weapos and ammo with limited space for items. i actually at one point ran out of space for items and if you can only carry so many weapons what will you have to do with weapons you dont want to use right now? maybe the magic trunks will make a reapearance. now that i think about it this is kinda like that re 0 game in a way.

it's kinda dark, but if you look at the inventory screen you can actually see arrows for the positions of the dpad in the appropriate squares. You can move items around for your dpad hot switcheroo keys by pressing square on the item, then moving it to one of the arrows.

I haven't played the demo yet, I will when I get home, however, I think that the game should NOT let you "run and gun" but rather at least take steps while firing.. Similar to how when you're aiming in Uncharted, you don't run, but you can still move.. slowly. I'll try it, and see how I feel about the game. Right now, I haven't even played it so I'm not making judgement, moreof just a suggestion.

For people who played the demo on each system which do you prefer?
Well I played it on both systems and it just feels more natural to me on PS3. the controls felt right and not forced while on xbox it felt clunky and whatnot. this is just my preference but until xbox gets a better control pad then ps3 is always the way to go in my opinion.
though it will always be much easier to get a game invite or invite someone through xbox live.
It's meant to be play with another person!!
you know I have been reading reviews and everyone is saying the same thing, but my take on it is this.
If you want a RE experience with the suspense and fright play by yourself. though this may make things hard at some points, I felt as though this experience kept a better RE feel overall.
If you want more of an action game experience then co-op is the way to go. I played Co-op on both and we never had problems on either version.
thats my overall take on things.
the total unbiased opinion-if you favor one system over the other and you have both. then get this for the other system so you have a reason to play that one. but at the end of the day it is all PS3 for me.

I played demo on both systems. And I think it's easier to aim on the xbox but I'm not used to play shooting games on ps3. But both are pretty much similar in control/gameplay wise. Didn't really notice any graphic different as well. This game will be hot. I didn't even like RE4 that much but I already love this one.

I have never played a RE title before, but got the demo out of curiosity and because I'm always looking for co-op games to play with my fiancee, who can't play regular shooters without feeling nauseous. We both were terrible and never passed either demo level but I like that every replay had a different flavor to it due to enemies behaving differently or us trying different tactics. There's also a great deal of tension when the two chars are separated and you can only watch as the other char gets swarmed or chainsawed. The tiny split-screening is disappointing but overall I'll be looking forward to getting the full game.
Not being able to move while shooting is definitely aggravating, but I can see how it can be an opportunity to play smart and watch each other's backs rather than based only on reflexes.

i agree with you. in the end alot of the fear and panic in re 5 will come from the frustration of trying to keep her alive while also keeping yourself alive and fighting with the item use/switch screen. imagine having to deal with nemesis from re3 while you have a female partner who can only do so much to help while also having to try and use iems and trade and receive items in real time.
because of the control system tweaks they made and the new stuff added into the game those who decide to lay it single player first will have a rough go out of it because youre forced to rethink the way you play the game.

I played through the demo a second time with a friend and it was much better. Sheva just kind of sucks as a bot. You can't trade strategies and she just blows through all the ammo. Also learning that you don't have to use the inventory to switch weapons helped...

I don't think I'm sold on this one. It doesn't have the feel of a classic RE game (premature since it's just a demo) and the controls need some work. Knowing me, I'll probably get it out of brand loyalty, but we'll see. Perhaps I should just go get RE2 and have a guaranteed good time ;)

I hate to say this but I think I have decided to pass on RE5. I don't mind the controls or the series moving towards the action genre, but I just don't like the forced co-op gameplay for single player. After playing the demo for a few weeks I still just don't like it. Sheva is a pain and I hate having to worry about what she is doing all of the time. Not really sure why Capcom felt the need to include her.

Keep in mind, whenever you see early demos, they're usually a lot earlier than the final builds. Usually 2-3 months early, if not 5+ months earlier builds. AI, and difficulty tuning is something that's worked on right up until the last moments.
As such, they may have improved certain aspects already.
Also note that in the full game, you're likely to have purchased a few weapon upgrades by the time you get to those points.
I really like the demo and I'm getting it for the co-op. However, I haven't played it single player yet, and it's likely that I won't play it single if I can help it.
One thing I do hope, however, is that like in Gears 2, one player can choose to play at a lower difficulty setting than the other.

The complaints about...
-stop and shoot
-tank style controls
-zombies standing back giving you time to shoot them
-etc
....make the game feel very 'video-gamey'. I think that is what I liked about the demo. That is why I liked the first 3 MGS better than 4, just because they felt very gamey. I get sick of the emphasis on realism. I'll probably pick this up at some point once I get finished with my back log.
I do hope that there is some puzzle solving, adventure components from the early games in series. Has it been stated this is missing, or is this just speculation based on demo?

I think co-op is what saves this game. Otherwise it would probably just be an average action game. I don't see myself playing it alone but online with friends is a blast. Even a random stranger would be fine if they talk, but during the demo every random game I joined nobody spoke so there was no communication, maybe that's different now with the full game but I'm probably not going to test it out.

Playing alone is great. The reviews make it sound like you must play co-op or the game sucks. You don't. I'm playing it by myself first then going to do co-op. I'm on 3-1 and the game has been great so far. Sheva is good and actually helps out. She kills enemies and heals me when I need it. I have no problem with her. One complaint I have is that I wish you didn't have to shoot an enemy to initiate melee. With a shitload of enemies all in one group in close proximity, I wish I could just punch or ram them so I can run away.

Yeah, that's kinda annoying. Anyone have any tips for getting the 3-hit melee combo? Usually I get one hit and they get knocked out.
I'm on chapter 5 and it's beginning to feel less and less like RE. It's more Dead Space-ish. There's even a cover system (wtf!).
The game is still fun to play, IMO, but they really ruin the suspense when every time enemies appear, they show a cut scene.

This game really isn't scary. Very action oriented. Sheeva seems to be fine sometimes and so stupid others. She has randomly gotten in my way, and for a while would reload the handgun after every shot she took. Another time shot would use and hold the stun rod and do nothing while being attack, even though she had a handgun in the inventory. Overall she's pretty good for what I thought might've been a long babysitting mission.

I just give her the handgun and take all the ammo away from her. I've been saving up for the final boss so when I get to that point I'm not out of ammo. Even if I did give her guns, she doesn't switch them out for whatever situation arises. She keeps using the same gun until the ammo runs out, then switches to another gun.

only complaint so far is about the inventory system. feels actually more cramped than the first RE. plus I tend to carry at least 6 slots for guns and ammo combined. I need to upgrade my weapons more and just stick to the handgun, MG, and shotgun for all situations.

Also, the game takes place mostly during the day. There are a few corridor areas, but the game isn't really all that scary. I would say it's only slightly more scary than Uncharted, which is to say not at all, but maybe that's because i was playing on co-op.

Hmm... sounds interesting.. I have felt that survivor genre games have let me down as far as the "conserve your ammo" motif is concerned.
For instance, I feel overwhelmed with the amount of Ammo I get in Dead Space. I have most of my plasma gun upgraded and I am not done with CH 3 yet..Also I have a ton of ammo just sitting in my safe
Conversely, I felt that Bioshock did a decent job with the whole "save your ammo" thing was concerned.(I did feel that I could have done with a little less ammo...but not too much) .. I did however conserve my EVE when I could.
However... it has been mentioned that RE5 plays like an action game.. and we typically get a lot of Ammo in action games

after getting up to chapter 3-2 I can say this game has a little scare factor in it. not as great as the others. but trust me when you play at night with only yourself up and at worst playing co-op, this game still has the same atmosphere. just because it happens in day may take from it, but the game has been specifically eerie for me on 2 parts so far(the tunnels and the marshlands, I was not expecting crocodiles in the water and the painted majini are a welcome change of pace.)
so to say my piece: only 2 things make this game not as scary as the others.
1. it happens in day time
2. you have a partner
change those 2 elements and the game would be scarier.
all in all I love this game and the ability to play through an area again with your current supplies is great. For example once I bought the stun rod I went back and did the chapter 1-1 where they rush you just to get the trophy in one sweep. now I never have to use the stun rod again.
never played dead space, but depending on how you play bioshock nothing is scarce if you balance your plasmid use, weapons, and manipulation of enemies.

I agree, the game does have it's frightening moments. I think with co-op it still could be a survival horror. They just gave too much ammo, so for the most part I was never low. Though there was some sections where my ammo was nearly empty and that made it much more intense. Also having it set more at night and in dark places would've help the mood.
Inf^Shini
03-17-2009, 04:05 PM
Capcom must have obviously known this, so I'm guessing that's why your limited to 9 spaces in-game. Even with preparation you can find yourself low on ammo on certain areas when you ramp up the difficulty, so I notice that they tried to at least balance it out in that sense.
I didn't think they'd allow you to hoard to easy in this game, but in a way it has its appeal like what Dark mentioned above.
Anywho, I'm diggin' this game the more I play it, I just wish I had the time to play it with online coop. I tend to have to play in bits therefore pausing every so often, so trying online coop right now wouldn't be ideal for me and it sucks :/

@inf - everything alive in this game can be killed if you can get a solid beat on it. I actually killed one croc thinking that was it then me and my partner were swamped and we outta the water asap. lol
One thing that I wish I could change about this game though is that when your inventory is full and you run past something that you could combine in your inventory but can't pick it up is soo frustrating.
IE: I had a full set of inventory but an empty handgun, yet I could not pick up the bullets. arghhhhhh or having a red herb to find a green herb but can't combine it in your inventory. it is soo crazy.
so in leaving. play at night alone or with your co-op partner and the lights out and you will still get a hint of that good ole resident evil feel. Besides nothing is scary in the day except for unemployment, bills, and stds. lol

I just beat the game. It was pretty solid, but it didn't really feel like a RE game to me. I'm kinda hoping they go back to the survival horror deal with RE6.
One of the reports on the ship on 6-2 or 6-3 mentions people in Umbrella who knew about the African lab. They were high ranking officials or something. It shows their status (deceased, etc). One of the names was Carlos. Is this the same Carlos from RE3?
They also made Jill into a total pussy. She had her own game, took on the Nemesis several times, yet somehow becomes Wesker's bitch? Doesn't make sense. They also did a piss poor job explaining how she survived that huge fall and what happened afterwards. They really dropped the ball with Jill.

inf and i were making a blooper reel of 3-1/3-2 coop. i got sea sick and almost vomitted when he crashing the hoovercraft at high speeds. at one point, i just happened to let slip the bridge on him/sheva as he was crossing. the gators weren't a problem as I just followed inf's lead. but it was funny when the gators ate him on the raft. but those chainsaw guys on 3-2 are tough enough without both players with magnums. and then he got disconnected with the computer controlled sheva magnum-less.
inf - the reason why were dying so much was that it was on veteran.
Ooooh man was that run hilarious, I wish we could have recorded that  I had PSN problems and I kept getting disconnected randomly after that, so I didn't have a steady connection and couldn't continue :/
I'm better at the hovercraft now though ;)
The first time I was on the raft I was expecting guys to come out instead of the croc, so when it said square+X to dodge I was like "oh wtf?" and hit triangle+O, then I did it again >.<!
I saw that you had it on Vet at the beginning so I knew that, but I had forgotten to put the melee vest in my inventory the whole time, so I took way more damage than I should've.
We gotta do this again :D

Really, it comes down to controls on which you prefer. Either way a fun co-op game. I was going to buy the multiplayer mode, but after listening to the latest podcast now I'm not sure. Since not everybody will have access to it and I'm not sure how much support it will get. I don't want to get it and end up with nobody else online.

I was just looking at my trophies and realized that there are no gold ones at all (Unlees maybe if you beat it on Professional?) Game was good, but not what I expect from the series. Love the Co-op, hate the A.I. though. Going through and getting an S on all levels, I only need to shave off 19 minutes to have unlimited rockets. After that I need to continue it on my 360, its a pain having friends with other systems and them wanting to play with you all the time.....

The only gold is beating it on professional, and you'll need a bit of patience to do it -.-
On Professional:
The Wesker fights can be annoying, but if you play with the CPU as a partner, it makes those segments easier. The only part I REALLY had a problem with was Ndesu, that big ass dude you gotta take out with the machine gun on 2-3. I died 17 times + restarts and finally beat him.
IMO, taking the device off Jill was probably the 2nd hardest thing to do.
And yes, I ran through with infinite ammo rockets + L.Hawk
Blackout

Is Lightning Hawk the best magnum?
Inf^Shini
03-25-2009, 05:58 PM
Best in terms of rate of fire with enough firepower, but just for raw power it would be the M500. The drawback of that gun is the time it takes to fire another shot; if you miss it leaves you wide open for about 2 seconds, and in pro that can mean more game over screens.
I also had the infinite ammo for the PSG-1 rifle, it helps to take out enemies from a distance with semi-auto fire and no recoil, so you might want to stick that in your inventory.
I also kept the melee/bulletproof vests because despite what others say, it saved my butt time and time again, although there are certain attacks that pretty much render them useless.

I must say, that I am officially tired of this game. I beat it last week on Normal with a friend, than on Tuesday I went through and played it a second time on Normal to get an "S" Ranking on every level. Than, for whatever reason I decided that it would be a good idea to play and beat the game on Veteran on the dame day. After that, I hooked up with a friend and we did the first level on Proffesional. Yesterday we got half way through on Proffesional and finished it off today. My friend got the Veteran Trophy to stack for playing it on Professional with me. Got the Platinum and all I need to do is have my wife beat the last three chapters on Amateur and hopefully it will say the game is 100% complete in records... Now I have to go back to the 360 version and do it all over again with other friends.....I have no life....

It didn't seem that short to me, but I do wish it was longer. KZ2 was short in comparison to how long it seem RE5 was. Maybe it was co-op that made it seem longer.
I'm in the same boat about trading it, I kinda want to keep it a bit longer but the value is still relatively high and it'll only go down in the future. Not sure how much more of it I will play.

and is it me. but i seem to remember re4 was a lot longer.
Overall this was a fun game but had its issues. Inventory management can be counter intuitive (why can't I pick up a herb from the ground and immediately use it if my inventory is full?) and Sheva isn't always the best but she holds her own (at least in normal). I think the best use of her on normal is dedicating a weapon or 2 to her and passing her all the ammo for said weapons. You can stretch ammo supplies a bit thin sometimes if you try and share ammo between Chris and Sheva since she sure likes using ammo. She'll also automatically pass you any ammo she finds for the weapons you're using. I also gave her most of your healing items since it's usually more convenient for her to heal me when health goes down rather than me stop shooting and rummage through inventory to find the healing item.
I think I'd go as far as to say I liked this game better than RE4. I give the edge to RE4 for a little easier system for inventory management with buying bigger storage cases and perhaps a wider array of enemy types. RE4 is certainly the longer game but that wasn't a big plus for me. I got so bored of the castle segment I took a 2 month break from the game. I loved the pacing for RE5. Never got boring to me and had just the right length of gameplay for me. It was also great to be able to buy and upgrade weapons after I died.
Now onto trying to get A ranks on the Mercs levels. Tried it 5 times and got nowhere near the A cutoff. Didn't realize how challenging it would be but it gives me some more replay value for the game so I don't mind.

I've discovered why they have the "No Infinite Weapon" option when playing. It's because it's freaking boring to play with someone with infinite rockets/sawed off shotgun deal, especially just on Normal difficulty.

professional is pretty tough. everyone including the lowly mani's have one hit kills. plus the resurrection time is less than 5 seconds. so if you're partner is not even close to you, you're dead. i suspect most people playing on pro are using the maxed out guns with unlimited amno. i kept writing that for people want a challenge should use stock guns on pro. now that i tried it out... its fucking hard... or you need a good partner. my guns aren't even close to being maxed out.

I dunno if it's been discussed at all and I know it's kinda out there, but does anyone else think Sheva was a "Plan B" character? I'm sure they always had co-op in mind for the game, but I'm wondering if they made some sudden tweaks and put her in due to that whole superfluous racism issue:
When she was introduced Capcom said she wasn't just thrown in to stem the criticism, but I can't help think that Jill was supposed to be the original supporting character. During that flashback to the mansion with Chris and Jill taking on wesker her look is very similar to Sheva. Her body type and clothing are very similar to the point that it almost looks like an alternate costume... not to mention they seemed to take great strides in masking Jill's face with that baseball cap, possibly becauase they had the very same facial structure. I know that's not a lot to go on, but I remember how strange it seemed when I watched the cutscene. When we finally see Jill again in her zero suit outfit it's like they intentionally went out of their way to make her look completely different from before; bleaching her hair, making her nose bigger(making her teeth...uglier), etc. almost as if to cover the initial indentical look. It also seems that a lot of scenes in the game could have functioned without her character there in that crow mask lurking around... Another thing that's sort of nagging me is the whole thing with that girl in the red dress. Capcom went out of their way a while back to issue a screen shot with chris holding her in front of some sort of cryo chamber, but she only ends up being some random one-off chick. I remember there was talks that she was possibly sherry birkin.
Any thoughts?

Jill's animations (in mercenaries) are somewhat similar to Sheva's when she's moving around, but she has an entirely unique set of melee attacks. While I agree that having Sheva instead of Jill doesn't really add anything to the plot besides a convienient motivation for Chris, there seem to be enough resources individually focused on her to preclude any notion that she was a last minute addition. However, it's certainly plausible that they intended to use Jill at some point farther back in the development cycle.
Grinding to get all the weapons, did like an hour of farming Lion Hearts of 5-2 and got enough to max the M37 and the machine gun needed to unlock the bow/gatling gun. Also finished maxing out the L. Hawk today and bought the Infinite Ammo for it. Now just lots of grinding for points/cash and doing the high difficulty playthrough.
Are there any guns around the public assembly level in Mercenaries or is it strictly shotgun/handgun/grenades?
There are no guns in Mercs at all except those the character starts with.
As for money, you could just constantly restart a chapter with a decently high-value treasure right at the beginning (e.g. 5-3). Pretty boring way to do it but would be relatively quick.

I've been doing the U shaped Hallway in 5-2 with about 10 Lickers which has a checkpoint immediately before it. Nets 5 Lionhearts and only takes about 2-4 minutes with almost no chance of death.
I need to play through 5-3 again a few more times though, need to get the bad blood trophy, as well as the veteran/professional. The part with the bridge/lickers is brutal,

Just finished the first three levels on Pro w/ BostonCollegeFan. We moved at a reasonably fast clip -- but that happens when one of us has an infinite ammo shotgun and other with infinite ammo magnum & rocket launcher.
Only died ~4 times the whole night, which is pretty good. I do dread, however, the later levels when bullets are added to the enemy mix. Does the bullet proof vest have any affect?

that method isn't a bad method (prolly the fastest), but it does get tedious (not as tedious as 3-1 though).
I like to go for trophies/bsaa emblems + money whenever I can.
Could someone give me a helpful tip on mercenaries?
I got up to 39,480 solo and whenever I pass 40,000 that damn chainsaw gets me from behind (first hit to put me on critical, and second to finish the job).
I wonder if versus would have universal appeal...but I think it won't have that lasting appeal as call of duty. Any idea on when it will be released for state side (April 9th?)

Finally finished the story mode (single player w/AI the whole time). I had enough points to get inf. ammo for one of the magnums, but I think I'll put the game down for a while. The last few chapters are really meant for co-op (too frustrating), and unless my brother wants to go through it, I don't think I'll play it again. The only other weapon I'd consider upgrading to infinite would be one of the sniper rifles, as they're essential to the last few chapters. And maybe the Hydra, or JailBreaker...
As for farming for ammo/money, I tried it a bit, and I just got bored. I ended up duplicating some rotten eggs. While that in itself is monotonous, at least I'm not running the same portions of the game to get what I need.

I think you can swap the eggs in the pre-level inventory screen, and disconnect then. It is probably a lot faster than the way we did it last night. Might cut some of the drag out out of.

Aside from being needed for two trophies, they go for 2k each, so people like to item dupe it as a shortcut to farming money.

i pre order the game, i just opened it yeasterday, and this 'kid' was there and he grabs the Chris Redfield figure, and starts scratching it and the breaks the handgun. I wanted to scream at him so bad. When i heard the handgun hitting the floor, i just stared at him, and said: "yeah thanks for breaking my sutff" and he replied: "it broke?" he looks at the floor and starts loking for the piece. i was just thinking how retarde he is, he didnt even noticed he broke it, or heard the handgun hitting the floor. i mean he was holding it in one hand like 4 inches away from his head, and his other hand was scratching the handgun. How can you not notice.
Anyway, i started playing, and got past 2-2, i tried to kill the worm guy, dont remeber the name, used all my ammo, granades, i even used the knife and didnt killed him. had to use the furnace. And the other bat boss was hard to kill, used almost all my ammo again there. So far i like it. Hope the DLC is great.

The way that items are handled (in particular these rotten eggs) allows you to save them after you receive them from someone else.
So, I hand you 45 eggs while playing co-op, and quit (don't save). You quit, and save after receiving them from me. I keep the 45 I had, and you keep the 45 you just received. We then keep exchanging them back and forth using the same method until we have enough funds to max out all the guns in the game. Each egg sells for 2K.
I have enough for anyone that's interested. I'll give you 45 and you can find another friend to duplicate them with you, as that just takes a bit too long for me. In about 40 minutes you should have all the money you should ever need.
People say it's cheating, but I'd rather spend an hour doing this, than spend hours upon hours killing the same enemies to only get a fraction of what this method accomplishes.

There is a dip in the ground on the island next to the dock- you can walk down to the water (a boat maybe), anyway, you can hit it from there if you have to.

You mean exchange points? You get those everytime you clear a chapter. If you have infinite ammo and don't completely suck at QTE's, you can do 6-2 on pro for an easy 2k per completion, just make sure to kill at least I think 20-25 enemies for an A rank (those little blobs the boss shoots out count).

Chapter 1-2 is extremely easy as well (without inf ammo). Just bring a shotgun for the enemies, and a rocket launcher (free from 3-1). The boss dies from a single rocket launcher shot on any difficulty (easy 2K points everytime.)

Yea but you can complete 6-2 in around 3-4 minutes if you blaze through it. No other chapter can really be completed that easily and quickly on pro.

Remember that in the chapter select it'll tell you how many BSAA emblems are in each section and how many you've collected.
