Has their been any confirmation as to what class is up for the next update?
no word but demo, engi and soldier are the only 3 that havent been updated. so you can expect it to be one or more of those.

The Shit-of-nature should have never been made.
The scout got a lot funner for me now that I finally unlocked the force-a-nature.
Yeah I honestly can't decide which gun I like more with the Scout, the Force-A-Nature or the regular Scatter gun. The ammo capacity of the normal Scatter gun is very nice, but the Force-A-Nature is very nice to get out of situations quickly. Double jumping backwards + Force-A-Nature = very quick way of leaving a losing battle. I unlocked the Bonk Atomic Punch but I haven't used it yet. The Sandman is alright but I always use the original bat. But yes, the Force-A-Nature is pretty awesome.
My comments on Scout upgrades-
The Force-A-Nature is fun to use and useful for a scout who needs to stay on the move. The bonk drink is ok, I can't see when it would be useful other then on payload maps; might work for captures but I haven't tried it. The Sandman is a lot of fun to use however after immobilizing your opponent with the ball apparently 2 shots to the head will not do the trick, that being said I'll probably go back to the bat as well.

Korean game developers have a thing for copying other games. Have you seen Sudden Attack? It's Counter-Strike. Avalon? Dota.

eh.. i think it looked different enough to not be a tf2 rip off. except the demo man.
tf2 isn't the only class based shooter around, and snipers, rocket launchers, and miniguns aren't the most original weapons
looked more like an army men game to me.

It was a blatant rip off. Same style of music, same demoman grenades, same sound effect for sniper, fast class double jumped with a bat and quite a few more comparisons.
While not every class based shooter may be a rip off, TF2 is a wildly succesful game that many developers are likely to model their game after.

#-o Hmm.......I think I'll stick with TF2. That game looks pretty terrible in comparison. No other game like TF2 can recreate its awesome humor, style, or personality of the characters.

wtf style of music does tf2 have? "spy music"? certainly didn't get that feel from the trailer of whatever this game was called. sounds like an 80's robot transformin' song.
holy shit double jumping in video games!?
a weak yet fast character, oh my fucking god call the lawyers!
also, looking at the trailer again, i don't even think this is a class based game. the character types are all seen holding different types of weapons.

It's like a frantic military styled big band.
You can't deny the similarities are not few and far between. As Kotaku nicely points out with the comparisons, the trailer obviously takes elements from TF2' Meet The's and a few E3 trailers.
Those crafty Koreans! TF2 copy, all the way.

those comparisons actually made me laugh a little. some of those are so bad, as in they look nothing alike, that it just seems like kotaku is purposefully trolling.
i already said that at least a couple of things are blatant rip-offs. mainly the demoman weapon as that is one of the few things thing is "unique" to tf2. that grenade style i have not seen elsewhere.
while comparisons certainly do exist between the two games, with even the smallest amount of extra thought, you can see that many of the "rip-offs" are simply genre conventions and that similar comparisons could be drawn between many other games. sure maybe this game has a couple of things directly taken from tf2, but it has many more things different about it in the right areas that make it its own game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the game will be unique in it's own way. Being it's a Korean F2P game (IIRC) then it'll probably have a leveling system and a few other differences. It's just not surprising though to see a smaller game with nearly no publicity (To me, never heard ofo it) to market a game like one of the greates multiplayer FPS's did.

That's probably my biggest issue with TF2, nearly ever server I play on is full every night. A lot of waiting to find a good server.
Also, I can't seem to remove servers from my played list, even after right clicking and clicking to remove from played list.
why doesnt CAG have a server that we can all play on and have game nights.
We did have one previously I believe it was CaptainPlanet who started it and quickly folded after the few months of having a few of us donate to have no one use it. It was originally purchased for the CAG Syndicate group we had, hoping to actually play matches in the future...

i don't think you were a member of cag-s or if you were, you did not make an impression on me with your playing.
many excellent players will not be on the top of the boards, because they are focused on doing their job and supporting the team, not going after points. if your team didn't have any engineers and they needed one at the time, as long as you were able to accomplish what was needed from an engineer for your team, it doesn't matter how many potential points you lost in doing so.

yeah, im in the cag-s group still. but i never really played with you guys. back when it was still new i didnt play much tf2 and when i did i played with some buddies of mine. my old computer ran tf2 at like 20 fps, so it wasnt very fun. my new computer runs its at 150+ fps, so ive been playing like its going out of style.

Why don't we set up a CAG night already... pretty sure we can bum rush a random server.

SOSTrooper
07-08-2009, 04:28 AM
Hmm really? I just know it was fast spawn, but I didn't know medics get uber/krits faster than normal. I usually avoid those dustbowl/goldrush/pipeline/2fort servers, so sometime I do end up playing in some custom modded servers like fast spawn or the semi-gay nom-nom-nom server (30 seconds of free kill at the round end).
Hydro2Oxide
07-08-2009, 11:11 AM
If we do CAG night, I'm admin on a server. As I said though it's 16 slots and no crits with all talk so if that bugs anyone we can do something else. Other than that though it's all vanilla.
^Sounds good but anyway to turn all-talk off, it takes away from the team-work...
BlueScrote
07-08-2009, 02:54 PM
But with a CAG night its more about the community than anything else so i think all talk wouldn't be too big of an issue
When we had the Cag Syndicate,(old TF2 group) we struggled to have more then 4 members in-game at a time; so in the past we have never filled a server.
Kaijufan

I'm not familiar with [CAG] Syndicate, but obviously it sounds like it was a semi-competitive TF2 clan. Either way, if you want to use that as the main group, add me! =p The only problem would be getting east coast people playing with west coast people, but I don't think it'd be too difficult-- just whenever anyone can show up is good enough. Also, if we do H2O server, it might be hard populating it unless your server is popular as is? If any case, just joining a random server would be good enough.

Hm, that's a very interesting way to play a medic. I've always done the heal everybody around you and whip out the blutsager when nobody needs healing or when the person you're healing dies. Obviously this looks super effective so I'm going to have to try it sometime.

Anyways, I never spent any time in achievement servers or would I ever leave myself idle in servers but here you go:

I'm a big fan of the standard "slow" spawn which I believe is the normal setting. 10-15 seconds. Instant spawn is a game breaker.
BlueLobstah
08-01-2009, 02:40 AM
Aside from wanting to "play" again, I don't really get the appeal of an instant respawn server.
I generally use respawn time to do some reconnaissance, which helps to form my strategy/class once I do eventually respawn. Instant respawn servers really throw off that advantage, not to mention that it's heavily favored towards defense. It's also nice on occasion to have that 10-20 second break.

I think this is a really important point. Valve even includes the deathcam in their discussions on balance because it does allow you to see what pesky tactics players are using or turret placement, etc. It's not simply like the Goldeneye days where everyone is shouting "hey, quit looking at my SCREEN!"

67.212.160.114:27015 - iRadic-eSports.com #1 | Stock Rotation | IR Stats | Central
63.208.142.75:27015 - [SS] Secret Service Compound #1
72.233.44.146:27019 - Texas... TeamPlayers... TF2
66.150.164.55:27015 - TheMaCHinE.org - Advanced Teamplay $$$$statsX]
67.228.59.144:27015 - SourceOP.com TF2 Pro Rotation [NO CRITS]
But to be honest, there's always little children and teamstacking in every server. I remember I played on a server that had nothing but GOOD players, and obviously good teamwork and a greater challenge. I'll post the IP if I can find it again.

The Twisted Network has good community servers. The tN and other clan members who play there are (somewhat) good about keeping teams balanced. 24-player max and default respawn times.
I've been playing on their TF servers since the early 2000s, come to think of it, but still haven't become a tN member. heh

I'll try some of those servers suggested but i feel No Heroes is great and has well modded servers. The competition is good and they really are into team based play.I personally like the 32 player limit and spawn times but if I have the need for some stock TF2 maps I'll give those a go.

It's better to use Kritzkrieg while on defense. Quicker to charge and it's much better against pushing enemies if the person you are Kritzing isn't a complete retard (my best is 7,365 points though :-#)

Yeah. It's the alternate version of the Medigun. Instead of making you and your healee invincible, it gives them guaranteed crits. I also think it charges faster, but I can't remember. You get it either via the drop system or by getting the necessary achievements, only some of which you'll actually be able to get in normal play.

You become a bigger target but you should always stay back until the charge is ready. I try to top off the people who fall back and than become somebody's pocket medic when the time comes for the kritz. As soon as it is over, I retreat again. Better to be alive and a little back from the front line then following somebody into a suicide situation where you will die/lose your charge.

Kritzkrieg basically turns the Heavy/Solider into a killing machine. You can take down a whole wave of a team if you pop it at the right time.

I'm another one that prefers the 24 max, 10-20 respawn time on the servers. What do people think about random crits? Or spawn camping? The three complaints I hear the most from non-regulars on the server I play on concern respawn times, random crits, and spawn camping.
RAMSTORIA
08-06-2009, 01:37 PM
im not a big fan of crits, i hate it when i get killed in one shot because of a crit...
spawn camping i dont mind so much, if your team is bad enough to let a spy just hang around and backstab or have a heavy medic combo outside the door then you deserve to get picked up. just get a medic and hit em back. i play pyro pretty much always, and there are times when (especially on payload maps) where i can just mow people down, work my way back to spawn, i take out teleporters, kill a few people, but they get me eventually.

Crits are integral to the game I believe. In a game world that has no wind/no unsteady soil/no blinding sunlight/nothing that can randomly happen out of the ordinary the game really needs something that is "unpredictable" to help smooth things over. The crits are skill-based with some magic einstein logarithm. If you follow board game communities there is always that search for the perfect balance of skill-based gameplay with a little bit of randomness thrown in for good measure. Not that TF2 is going for realism, but players play with a realistic mindset. I think the crits are rewarding in loss and defeat.
Hydro2Oxide
08-07-2009, 06:02 PM
While I agree with that, TF2 has no skill implementation for crits. RPG's usually have a luck stat or crit chance you can raise, most FPS's have headshots, other games may have a bar or meter that lets you know when you can use a powerful attack etc. Whereas the crit is entirely random. Yes there's the ramping up effect with damage but that doesn't mean that that guy who was lucky enough to get minigun crits in a room full of people who should have killed him deserved it.

also for kritzkrieg vs. uber it all depends on who you've got in front of you. A good soldier / medic combo should always roll uber, but that means you have played together for a while.

Wouldn't say it's completely worthless. It allows you to be online than any normal person could play TF2, and doesn't comes with the actual computational power needed to just idle in game. It's just a time thing...the longer you're online, the more rolls you'll probably get. With more rolls, it is expected that you have a higher chance of having found a hat.

Updated PL_Hoodoo. Changes from community mapmaker Tim Johnson:
"Added a balcony at 2-1 that I've rotated and cleaned up so it's a much better point, it attracts less sentry spam but is still holdable. 2-2 has a bit more breathing room and the one way route between BLU/RED spawn in stage 3 has gone and in its place some stairs up to the second level accessible from BLU's side."
Added "tf_ctf_bonus_time" ConVar to set the CritBoost bonus time for capturing the intelligence (0 to disable it)
Added "tf_arena_first_blood" ConVar to toggle the first blood feature in Arena mode (0 to disable it)
Added missing snowpuff particles for DX8 players
Fixed rocket jumping
Fixed sticky bomb attachment to props. They will now only ignore the saws in sawmill
Fixed Scouts going into reference pose in double jumps
Fixed the Ubersaw not displaying team colors
Fixed Spies disguised as RED Scouts not cloaking properly
Removed two more text messages for TF_FLAGTYPE_ATTACK_DEFEND CTF game mode

dead ringer is good if you play spy a lot - you basically can't die if you play it right.
C&D is for noobs / stalking / actually spying and reporting to your team.

SOSTrooper

When they're all filled, and you get another item from playing, it's going to make you sort through the inventory to delete one item to make room for the item you just got during your respawn time. But I don't see why the spaces should all be filled. You really just need one of each weapon, and the hats don't occupy the inventory space.

I kept more than one of each because there was talk awhile ago about Valve implementing a trading system. Although, that was also back when the unlockable weapons actually had levels higher than 10, so maybe that isn't happening anymore.

No they don't.
I think he's talking about stuff like Level 100 and 53 items. The Sandvich, Kritzkrieg, and K.G.B are at their default levels even though it's not level 5, 10, or 15.
Yeah. For like a month weapons had levels ranging from 1-100. Now they're just all at their defaults (unless you have one that you unlocked during said time period).
I said that because it'd make sense to have a trading system if there were all kinds of different levels (with higher levels doing more damage), but it would now be kind of pointless since everything is the same.

That would absolutely ruin Team Fortress 2. As an FPS, TF2 should be entirely skill-based (I detest random crits for this reason); some bozo shouldn't have an advantage just because he stumbled on a level 500 backburner instead of a level 20. There's also numerous inherent problems with visually communicating a weapon's damage output. I hoped, however, that Valve would keep the levels in as a joke since you have people accusing TF2 of becoming an MMO.

Oh, I definitely agree, I was just saying that a trading system, if they were to implement it, would make more sense with leveled weapons. But yeah, I totally agree that an FPS should be completely skill based.

You've got to be fucking kidding me
Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications. We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system. Due to us not having a policy in place prior to today, this time we're only removing the items earned through cheating the system. Going forward, if we find users using external applications, we'll remove all of their items. If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.
Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. We've also significantly increased the chance of finding any of the existing hats.
We realize there is a high level of demand for items, and we're still working on systems to allow you to find them in new ways (via Trading, and crafting duplicates into desired items). However, we need to draw the line at running external applications.

So my understanding is that external idling applications =/= idling servers. Is this correct? I ask because I used an idling server for about 4 hours the other day (temptation got the better of me), but decided it wasn't worth wasting electricity on idling a TF2 character :p

Their 4.5% number seems highly suspect, or it only takes into consideration whether you own the game of not. The idler, for the past few weeks, has had at least 10k people connected to it. When you consider that people leave the server, join the server, etc, it's possible that 14k or 15k people have ever connected to it. While it's hard to determine the number of active TF2 players, the generally quoted number is around 20k. Even inflated a bit to around 40k, that still means 37% of people that still play the game idled.

That would be the peak for one day. TF2 hit 28k peak players today, but not everyone plays all day, and not everyone plays every day. 4.5% total players using the idler seems likely.

1) Because they're rare. The easiest way to make someone covet something is to make it rare.
2) There are two ways for someone to stand out amongst their peers...with a Hat, or be exceptionally good. One of these takes a lot of time, strategy, and patience...the other doesn't.
Now that I see they're replacing weapons obtained through milestones, this isn't that bad. I don't really agree with what they did, but its not like I lost anything I worked for. I am, however, waiting for them to sell the item drop mechanic to people who already have all weapons. I wonder why they removed the random level weapon stuff....seemed like harmless fun.
