I had consumed 7 of 9 protein bars before I rec'd a letter in the mail telling me they had been recalled b/c of the paste coming from the factory they traced the salmonella to.
Awesome. Pitched 'em about a week ago, though.

Yeah, I know... I guess it's just coming out now though. I first saw it in the news yesterday.

Peanut butter in a jar should be fine. I wouldn't eat any peanut butter flavored cookies or candies though. You should be able to return to the store even if you've opened them already. Just tell them about this salmonella scare. You should mention you ate some and they give you explosive diarrhea just to see what kind of reaction you get from the employee.

I checked the Hershey's site to inquire as to whether or not I should be worried about the greatest candy known to mankind; the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. They don't purchase anything from PCA the company that had the tainted peanut butter product. So, if in doubt check the FDA site because they've got all the products that have been recalled. If you don't find it check the manufaturer's site ie. Mars Inc., Keebler, Hershey's, etc. like I did.

I love peanuts and have been on a peanut kick. I recently switched over to almonds and sunflower seeds (which are suprisingly cheap). Try another goddamn nut, they're all delicious!!

For my money, you can't beat a cashew.
Although, almonds are tied with cashews for me.
Salmonella usually just causes a self-limited diarrhea that resolves without treatment. Unless you are asplenic or have a jacked up immune system, you likely have little to worry about.
