Does any one read actual novels voluntarily, none of my friends do and I feel I'm the only one who does, I love reading novels.
Does any one write freely? Poetry or fiction or anything? I do this too and I feel like an outcast.
I'm assuming and hoping no one does math indepedantley, that would just be sad.
By voluntarily I mean outside of school, I realized that wasn't clear when I read it.

Yes to the first two...or at least it was yes. I like reading and I've been writing for some time now, but I haven't had time lately. That would be because of school, which fulfills the third requirement. My AP Calculus class gives me more than enough math to do...
You're not an outcast...chances are you're just smarter than your friends. :D

Yep, I write poems (not happy ones) and short stories occasionally, and I love my stephen king.

Yeah, I'm probably the only person on this site that has a book as my avatar, it's not a novel but it is a great piece of American literature. It actualy could be considered a 'cheap-ass book' because it was wriiten by and for hippies in the sixties and it instructs you on how to get stuff for free or cheap, but most of the info is outdated.

I read and write voluntarily, and at times of boredom, have converted numbers into binary code for fun.

I read all the time; I constantly have 3-5 books out from the library. I don't ever write anymore though.

I love both reading and writing. Right now I'm working through Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice, Book 2 - when I have time of course. I wish I had more time to read.

I read a lot, magazines and novels, but I NEVER write. I hate to write, and aren't too great at it.

I stick to reading the classics. I honestly haven't found a recent author who has had anything interesting. They all seem so "cookie-cutter" to me. Right now I'm reading through Shakespeare's Julius Caesar for the 4th time, because it's a truly fantastic book/play. I suggest everyone pick it up, as it can be had for about $3.50.

They are both funny in certain respects, but they both have a much deeper and serious meaning. I suggest you read both of them, but for more comedy, Catch-22.

One has much intentional humor and the other has very little. Is there really any question?
I read voraciously and have written professionally, which necessitates writing for its own sake to develop the skills.
I do math occasionally just to keep the method alive in my brain to avoid the 'use it or lose it' problem.

Actually I think Avidwriter has books in his avatar as well. As far as reading and writing go I don't do either of them as often as I use to. I find myself reading more non-fiction than fiction as of late and writing only when it strikes me. This partly because I have less free time than before, also because I find that books have become more expensive than videogames thanks to this site. A new hardcover book can cost as much as $25, which equals alot of cheapass games.

I loved the movie of Cuckoo's nest because I saw the metaphor for society as a whole, but it really touched me because it reminded me of the relationship I have with my English teacher, the only reason I found it funny was the basketball scene, but it was really well-made
I started Catch-22 a while and found it hilarious

I read and write all the time. My 3 favorite stores I like to peruse are videogame stores, record stores (not the crappy kinds in the mall, I like the Mom-n-pop kinds) and book stores. I'll read various subjects but I go through phases. Last year, I went through my philosphy phase. Now I am in my history phase.
There really is a lot of good books to read.

That reminded me of something I used to do when I was younger... whenever I'd say a sentence or hear one said to me, or read something, I'd count the letters in it. Constantly. Needless to say I don't do it anymore. >.<

I don't write at all. Never have.

I don't write much anymore, because I have used up my creativity.
I read voraciously however, mostly science fiction, fantasy, or crime thrillers, along with the occasional political/commentary non-fiction [right now I'm reading The Berserker Throne by Fred Saberhagen, and New Eves, a collection of influential science fiction stories by women authors since the 1920's.]
I don't do too much math in my spare time, unless it's figuring value/cost ratios or things like that; but that's also because my job is 95% math and numbers, no since bringing my work home too much.
I'm sorry you feel like you're the only one reading; as cool as games and the internet are, they can't match books for sheer variety and value and fuel for imagination.
Our county library has a booksale every year, that we look forward to as much as we do Christmas. On the third day of the sale, you can get a box of books for 5 bucks. We haven't left with fewer than four boxes in the past three years. We have actually gotten rid of a bunch of books, and some are still in boxes, but we've got 7 bookcases in our attic full of books.

I read novels on occasion. I am a big Star Trek fan and own around ten of their novels. I also like some non-fiction. I re-read Hiroshima by John Hersey last month. It's an amazing book about the Hiroshima atomic bomb. I used to write poetry but that was a long time ago.
You know, I think I am going to inventory my book collection and post it online. Are there any sites that let you do this like DVDAficionado for DVDs or IGN for games?

To be honest.. writing tends to go by the wayside once you get out of the melodramatic years (also known as the teens).. although their are exceptions to that. But I often read when I have the extra time.. I love picking up some Ayn Rand or one of the great Russian authors on a lazy Sunday.

If you're referring to me, I very rarely call anyone an asshat.. you just see it more often because I often am required to inform you of your asshat status.

I read quite frequently, always have, probably always will. Everything from Clancy to Wilde.
I never, ever write. I had to write these two essays last weekend for the GMAT and that seriously almost put down.
I'll do math on occasion, but it's always with a purpose; such as balancing the checkbook or figuring out the rate of return for certain investments.

Well, I commend you for reading Ayn Rand for fun. I had to read Atlas Shrugged in college and it was shall we say, a thorough book.

Hahaha. No, I don't doubt it for a second. Seriously. I already know I'm highly paranoid and schizotypal, which is a mild form of schizophrenia anyways, and I used to do this literally after every single sentence, every word that was said, what I'd read on signs, and what people would say to me while talking, I'd count all the words that they'd say. Honestly though I don't do it anymore... very, very rarely do I do, and it's a one time thing, but I totally believe that. So it would make sense.
And sm... don't worry about it...

I think I'll try that. I'm already certain that I'm OCD, so I'll probably be doing this for the rest of my life. Thanks x0thedeadzone0x!
EDIT: Now that I think about it that might be a really great way to improve your vocabulary and spelling.

It's no problem ;).
And Yes, yes it does, it also helps for math too, because eventually you can see how fast you can add up all the letters. I could do it almost instantly before, all I'd have to do is glance at the word or words and know how many letters were in each of them, then glance at them together and I'd just know.
