Oblivion Question

I was at Walmart earlier and they had Oblivion IV for $20, I almost got it but then I seen they had Oblivion IV the GAME OF THE YEAR Edition for $30.. I asked the clerk what the difference was but he said "just some tweaks" I decided not to purchase either until I find out the differences. I trust CAG's more than that dude so please fill me in.

The Game Of The Year edition includes the expansion packs "Knights Of The Nine" and "Shivering Isles", the latter of which is on the PSN store online for $30 by itself.

Personally though, I couldn't stand this game, since the whole game world levels up with you making any sword fights on an even playing field no matter HOW far along in the game you are.

That was one of the fun things to do in Fable was just go around menacing the villagers, but if you do that in this game the guards will take you down in short order.

It depends on what you consider 'great'. I considered Fable a great RPG game, since it was action based, third person and I could go around causing alot of havoc if I chose to.

I tried Oblivion in both third and first person and neither perspective really 'worked' for me, so I stopped playing it soon after starting.

To each their own though, as my tastes will definitely not mesh with everyone else's.

If you level properly it is easy to get more powerful than your enemies even with higher levels. With custom weapons, battles can be a breeze.

It's an awesome game and I put over 100 hours into it without even going to shivering isles (and I have no plans of doing that quest any time soon). I highly recommend it and say SI is not that important.

Honestly you can't compair this to Fable, they are very different games. The thing about this game is that their is so much to do in it outside of the main quest its insane. You can spend weeks doing side quests and such before finishing the main story. Like the other poster said their are ways to level up that will give a slight edge over some NPC's but keeping everything even is what makes the game interesting.

If your looking for a fast paced game this is not it, this game takes time and moves pretty slow. It also gets repetitive at times.

The benefits are that you get 10% off used games that you purchase, and you get 10% more in store credit when you trade in games. Also, depending on what state you live in, if you use store credit to purchase a game and your balance covers it, you don't get charged tax.

Boooooo. I slaughtered guards like small children. However, I did get pissed off at the NPC's that keep coming back to life.

Slow, boring, repetitive games do only one thing for me: make me want to trade them in or make a deal for a game I DO want with someone online.

That's exactly what I did with the copy I got from Toys R Us a while back for $9 or so.

I had already tried it on my one buddies' PS3 and while I liked the customization of your character and all, I found the game to be a chore to play. Yet every member of his family who is into games put in 100+ hours on this game.

Like I said, it's not for everyone.

You need to do a bit of research about the Bloodgrass glitch in the GOTY edition. It is a glitch that makes you stay as a vampire for the whole game, and it ruins it for some people. Just something to think about. The glitch isn't present in the regular version.

Ru, I personally can't praise this game enough. Though it took me 3 characters (kept restarting after about 6 hours in) to finally get one with the skill set I REALLY wanted, I am deeply in love with this game. I've sunk 70 hours in so far an am probably 1/3 of the way through the main quest.

If you enjoy the thought of an open world and being able to have multiple, and I mean MULTIPLE, quests available to you at one time then you shouldn't overlook this game. Granted it's going to take about 6 hours to really get a feel for it, but after that you'll know if you like it or hate it.

You may want to consider grabbing it from GameStop and playing it for a few hours since you can return it in 7 days if you don't like it.

Edit: I should say it also has its shortcomings (voice acting is not great and third person view sucks) but IMO these are HIGHLY overlooked by the breadth of the game.

The return at gamestop has to be a used game. They'll probably look at you funny, but when i did this i returned half life 1 for ps2 and used the money towards Oblivion. Oblivion's a great game. It does so much you can forgive any flaws.
