About.. 3 years ago mattte tried getting some people together for some Ironman games in Diablo 2. It didn't go so well.

Now, I'm here to try it again.

For those who don't know what Ironman is, essentially it is a playstyle where you limit yourself things in the game and is typically played in the Hardcore mode. Stuff like, not allowed to buy/sell/repair from NPC's.

However, in the PvP context it is a little bit different.
------
1. We will all make new softcore characters.
Traditionally, you play hardcore and have elimination rounds. However, this is more like a casual get together than an actual tournament, and we will want to fight as many times as we want.

2. We will get together in our channel of choice all with our brand new level 1 characters and create a game.

3. We all get together in the game and party, leveling as regular to level 9.

4. As soon as anyone reaches level 9, they must head back into town and wait for the others to hit level 9 as well.

5. Once everyone is level 9, you trade with everyone else for items they might have found that will make your build better and vice-versa. Say you are a zon and a druid found a nice bow and you found a nice druid helm.

6. Once trading is complete, we fight! The first fights will be in pairs, grouped randomly (probably by party order) for the first round in brackets until we declare a winner for the night. After the "official" battles are out of the way, we simply fight and BS till we're bored using any groupings we want. 2v2v2v2 is fun.

You ARE allowed to buy and sell at will from the merchants.
You ARE allowed to use MANA POTIONS in official fights (no other potions).

Winner for the evening:
Zinrae's Psychic Hammer assassin.

Had some good matches. I played as a cold/fire arrow zon. My intention was to hit with cold arrow to slow and then use the speed advantage to belt with fire arrows. Unfortunately, psychic hammer was able to knock me into obstacles from a distance to pin me in place allowing Zinrae to beat on me with a nice scepter he found. My hit recovery was terrible, so there really wasn't much I could do except hope that I didn't miss with my first couple of shots.

I won a few times after the initial match, but I think I was at a fairly large disadvantage.

Sounds like fun, I haven't played Diablo II in years and would love to back into it a little bit (the anticipation for Diablo III / SC2 is killing me)

I'll need to install it.
