For those that don't feel like reading, in the Gamespot preview, the guys at Dice said the game would only be 350mb and they are going to get it priced like a normal premium game like Braid (aka 1200 points).

This so called Battlefield 1943 will be a complete and utter joke. It's 2009, why the hell are we seeing Battlefield games locked in at 24 players, that's not a war, that's a skirmish. What Needs Improvement
Unlike previous Battlefield games, Pacific only has three unit classes: Infantry, Riflemen, and Scout. Gone are the Medics and Heavy weapons classes. Van dyke explained they wanted every class to be able to fight in every situation. Every class has weapons to fight against the biggest tanks and armor. I would like to have seen more classes with varied abilities and risks.
Also, players have auto-health and unlimited ammo. I find auto-health to be too simple and easy and unlimited ammo means players will be firing without thinking. That will probably mean no more knife fights.

I thought BFBC was a decent rental. A nicely paced and entertaining single player. WHile MP wasn't quite up to normal BF standards it was still fun. I liked some of the perks you could unlock like the artillery strike

I thought battlefield 2 and 1942 were awesome (though admittedly I did suck at them).

I'll most likely pick this up, probably with gamesharing on the ps3, but i'm a little turned off by the unlimited ammo/health regeneration.

Either way I'll try the demo before I decide to pick it up though. Hopefully it's not half bad.

I loved 1942 (midway) map, I believe it was a demo before BF1942 came out. I played that level like crazy! I love the whole balance of land and sea battles. So awesome! Can't wait for this!

See the problem here is that you're ragging on DICE so that they learn from their mistakes (in your eyes) and make a better game. But why do i get the feeling that nothing will ever be good enough for people like you? BFMC (I had this for PS2 beacuse I didnt have a xbox at the time) was amazing and did a lot of stuff completely right. How they went from this to BFBC is completely beyond me and the sooner they get back to what mad Modern Combat great the better.

The way to do that is to not scrap everything that people loved for mainstream ideas. I dont want to right this game off yet because I havent played it but unlimited ammo, regen health, 3 classes....all of this just speaks of disaster.

This new video has officially sold me on this game. There are a couple things I don't like about it like the infinite ammo and regenerating health, but at the end of the day this is still a BF game. I am actually kind of surprised that this is only going to be $15.

I played the crap out of BF 1942 and BF2 so I am automatically interested in any new BF game. Plus the inclusion of Wake Island alone is a huge selling point. Wake Island is one of my all time favorite multiplayer maps in any online game. :whee:

Like in Counter-Strike, everyone goes through the Deathmatch mode phase were you have unlimited money and weapons, but after a week or so it's right back to the normal modes. With no option of having a game mode were it's just plain old fashioned Battlefield this might get old quick.

This was one of the last PC games I really got alot of play into before eventually retiring from PC games to consoles. Well my video card dieing combined with me being a cheapass helped but anyway it's time to start saving back some points for this bad boy.

Yeah, in the last couple days people that are working on the game from DICE have been posting on forums saying how "the announcement of the release date being July 9th" is incorrect. So apparently we are back to the whole "we are working very hard to get the game out as soon as possible" crap. I don't usually get impatient and complain about games not coming out by a certain time......but this is getting a little ridiculous. I'm sure most people are aware of "Valve time" (Valve has a habit of never giving release dates and their games usually get pushed back many times) so I hereby declare

What's sad is that this game might be superior to Bad Company. All it needs is global team chat and grenades/rockets with splash damage. Bad Company was a fucking mess, because they just focused on Frostbite and threw code fragments from the Modern Combat engine under the hood. Frostbite was crap, at least BFBC2 already had Frostbite finished so they can go back to making the GAME good rather than some Red Faction style gimmick that tainted gameplay more than enhanced it.

I haven't come across a game with lag yet, but I've only played two games. Third game I got kicked right when the map loaded and have had no luck finding a game for a while and rebooted my console and got in fine.

Unfortunately, the same thing happened when Bad Company came out, it took a few days for everything to settle in and work 100%.

Well I finally got in a game using quick connect. I must say it's a pretty damn good game for $15 but I'm probably a bit biased due to my love for bf2. I've probably played that game more than any other (except maybe WoW :). The destructability adds a new strategy to the game and the terrain is definitely an improvement over bf2. Any Cags wanna get a regular game going?

When it worked earlier it brought back all the glorious feelings only a proper Battlefield game can though. Battlefield 2 and 1942 are still two of my favorite Online games of all time.

Played a bunch this afternoon around lunchtime, the game is awesome. It really captures the spirit of 1942 but with updated graphics and full destructibility. No longer will a damn fence force you through a choke point!

Now I demand a European theater version with the El-Alamein level from '42. Stalingrad and some of the Italian maps would be great too.

Unfortunately, I've been trying since 6PM to get back in and have been totally unsuccessful. Really hope they're adding those servers.

However there is sort of a workaround we found, if you have another person with you searching for a game (so a squad made up in other words) if the other person backs out while searching for a game it ends the search. So we were just trading off on that for a little while.

Fat chance getting this in a Battlefield game haha :lol:. You might get one squad who are coordinating attacks on each team but I'm guessing that will be about it. The demo is 30 minutes of play time in the full game, but only on the wake island map. I would not have bought the game if I only had the tutorial as there is no enemies/bots in the tutorial.

With the trial I could not get into a match without hitting 'join game' on someones gamertag that was already in. But after I bought the game I could get in regularly.

I have a question though - what circumstances make the little red indicator show up over an enemies head? Sometimes I see the little red arrows even behind hills, showing where enemies are. Other times I don't see an enemy unless I aim right at them. The red indicators fade in and out. I assume it has to do with if they are firing or performing other actions. Anyone know what exactly makes you 'visible' like that?

i think the red indicators start showing up when either you or someone on your team spots that enemy or fires on them. thats the best as i could tell.

I really want to like this game but there's always something thats just annoying. First the servers, then the crashing, now I've been noticing Tearing. It usually occurs while i'm flying. Also I hate the mad rush for the planes, or re-spawning on a carrier halfway through a map and find half the team waiting for planes. Or there's usually that one guy that just stands in the doorway to the radar room, cock blocking everyone else just so he's always the one to do the bombing run. Its like playing with 3 year olds.

Overall its a fun game, but I really can't wait until the server situation is settled so we can get a Cag night for this and play with descent people.

Of course the game was going to do well it's 24 player online, three wide open maps, graphically its amazing for an arcade game, its BATTLEFIELD GAME, and its very nicely priced at 1200 points.

It occasionally works Trak. It seems like the fewere people in a server, the easier it is to join on a friend. Has a few matches last night where a friend couldn't join on me when it was 12-10 or so, but when each team has less than 9 players, we were able to join in on each other.

It's all messed up though. There was one point where three of us were trying to get in the same game with plenty of space, but only two could get in without trouble.

Well i'm loving the game now that i'm getting better with the weapons. I like the rifleman class the best so far. I literally just had a 3 game streak where I went 38 kills and ZERO deaths. :D

NOBODY seems to care about air raids so I was whoring the control houses and only fighting enemies when they approached or just shooting them in the back when they had control of the nearby flag. I'd only sneak out and recapture the flag whenever the enemies would leave it unoccupied. I'm a whore. :D

yea, it was definitely more fun attacking and defending bases with a buddy. It was just me and homeland, and then ivanhood for a little working together last night and I think our team won all 4-5 matches we teamed up in. Looking forward to some more organized Cag nights in the future once they get all the servers up and running.

And to all the people that are down on the game for only coming with 3 maps, I know on the surface it seems like a ripoff but just give the game a chance, it's worthy enough to be a full fledged retail game quality-wise. try the demo and hopefully you'll see it's well worth the $15. I mean, it's old school bf1942 on console with next gen graphics and physics, how can you top that :)

While the amount of maps are a deterrant, it's not a big deal to me. I replayed Wake Island so many times in 1942, it's not even funny. It's more difficult to get tired of these maps because each game is often vastly different than the last, leaving you with something to always do. Granted you'll still get tired of them eventually, but at which point you should probably take a break from the game for a little while.

I'm not the best, but I started getting the hang last night. After crashing the plane about 15 times in the tutorial I started getting better.

I love how it's an arcade game though. Makes playing a quick round easy.

Exactly. If I had a dollar for every time I have played a Battlefield game at Wake Island I would be a millionaire. Between Wake on 1942 and the remake of it for Battlefield 2 I have probably never played a multiplayer map in a game more than Wake.

Exactly! You can pretty easily get a 4000 pts card for $30 so that makes this game $9. I've already got my moneys worth i'd say. I spent alot of time last night just learning how to fly the planes and screwing around.

Tried joining a game with the demo and couldnt get into a single game. Bought the full thing and I had no problems since.

Loving the game so far. Finally, a 1200 pt arcade game that is actually worth the price.

I'm not sure about anyone else but yesterday afternoon I had this game freeze on me twice at the exact same moment. Both times it froze up right after my bombs hit after an Air Raid. Right after all of the bombs hit and the names of the people I killed were on the screen it happened. Its okay though.....I have not learned my lesson in the slightest. I continue to do Air Raids when I have the chance. :whee:

I found the ports that Battlefield 1943 uses on the DICE forums. It's helped me join games a hell of a lot easier if anybody wants to try them:

TCP Ports: 80, 13020, 18280, 18285
UDP Ports: 53, 3074, 11000-11030, 18285


Normally you shouldn't need to do this but EA is a bitch.


EDIT: For the record, 95% of the games I tried to join gave me "Connection Problem" and didn't let me enter. Once I opened the ports, I've gotten into every single game that made it to Joining Game (Which I tried about 10 times since opening the ports).

I played a game this afternoon and everything looked scrambled on one part of a map. When I faced one of the islands the screen would have lines and look messed up, but if I turned and faced a different direction everything was fine. 2-3 minutes in, the game said the connection was lost, and I constantly kept getting a "no servers" error and could not join any games. I exited the game and loaded it back up and kept getting a "No EA servers" error. I was connected to XBL as I was able to play a game of Magic against someone else and message friends.

Played it alot this weekend and id have to agree with most everyone else - It is worth buying the game. Brings back alot of memorys playing BF1942/DC on the pc years ago.

Now - They gotta fix the Tech issues. In the last hour - I was disconnected from games twice and the console locked up once requireing a hard boot. Im also seeing graphic glitches at times. Very Frustrating when it happens.... Id say ive lost at least 2 ranks if not more worth of exp. to these bugs.

The disconnects are happening because they are adding and working on the servers. The console freezes are annoying.

Server issues are fine now, but if you have some problems you probably need to open the ports I listed in my last reply. As for the lag, I'm getting a tiny bit today but it's not enough to cause me to play any worse as I still seem to get MVP with a ton of kills.

Up until yesterday I had none. Now when I watch planes fly they occasionally rubberband backwards momentarily. Also when someone surprises me and hide behind cover, like say a bunker wall, I will still die despite not being able to see them for a full 2 seconds before my death because they're on the other side of the wall.

Kindof annoying, but still quite playable. Well, so long as I don't get flanked from out of view.

The lag was primarily only there for the first 5-10 hours the game was out on Wednesday morning. That they fixed pretty easily.

The problems connecting to games through quick match and with friends was the big problem up until Saturday.

I'm liking the game, easily worth $15 but my issue with anything and everything Battlefield remains. A person driving a jeep is useless unless they have a gunner. Don't sit on the carrier for 10 minutes waiting for another plane to spawn, get in the damn boat and go capture a flag. If you are solo in a tank and see a person running behind you, WAIT FOR THEM!

Totally agree with you Nasum. I have found that I just spawn on teammates/squad first and then flags second is the best way to rack up points and kills. One game I saw three guys waiting for a plane on a carrier for a good ten minutes. Luckily we were holding down three flags while those IdioTs were out there waiting for a plane spawn. I like to stay active by just spawning near a flag we are taking or one (forward position) that we are about to take. I had good streak the other night of four games in a row of over 500 pts by doing this. Planes and tanks are great, but I can't tell you how many kills I have gotten or assists for that matter, in a jeep with a teammate. Really fun game and best purchase so far on XBLA title.

A person driving a jeep is useless unless they have a gunner.

Don't need to be effective at killing as they're very easily destroyed. Sure I've gone on killing sprees with a gunner in tow when the team sucks, but generally that usually isn't the case for me and I'll be up against either a good tank driver, a good plane pilot who knows how to bomb, or an infantry class who knows what an RPG is.

They're usually best for travelling long distances very quicker in my opinion as it's just too easy to destroy or even shoot out the driver/gunner as they're very exposed in them.

If you are solo in a tank and see a person running behind you, WAIT FOR THEM!

From my experience, I see tons of people running behind tanks but rarely ever to jump in with them. It's not really difficult to kill someone sitting in the turret of a tank, especially with rifle grenades. Since I seem to see it as a death sentence in games where I go up against a team with a few decent people, it's generally better to run behind it as cover. Plus you sprint nearly as quickly as a tank, so if you're using it to cover ground it's not really that much more effective.


My main beefs are:
- People who spawn camp planes/air raids constantly.
- Snipers who sit on one end of the map and fail at life.
- People who grab landing crafts on carriers and don't give two shits about letting more people in before they leave. (Sucks when you have four of them in a game who all grab them first -_-)




Oh and for those who use squads and don't know, you can mark a single flag per squad by putting your reticle over it and hitting select. It's a good way to coordinate your target a little easier than trying to explain which point you specifically want to go to.

EDIT: And the 360 is less than 13,000,000 kills to Coral Sea. Only two or three more days until we get it.

I think that many people just don't know that there are a lot of ways to get points. Savior, defense, assist, destroy...it seems like anything you do short of running around will net you points. Just being a driver of a vehicle nets you 10 points when a passenger gets a kill, which is as many points as a kill itself.

I agree with Draekon that people generally won't hop in the gunner seat. More times than not, like he said, it's just a free kill. Personally, the only times I ever hop in the gunner seat is if one of my friends is driving and capping a flag. I can watch his back, he watches the front, and we can communicate where enemies are on our blindsides. If he tells me is more than one enemy attacking from the front, I know to bail out and take cover behind the tank because I know at least one person will shoot at the gunner for the free points.
