my nephew got a PSP for the holidays and strange as his decision I've decided to help out my query is on making PSP compatible videos.

My PS3 plays pretty much everything I've thrown at it, but the PSP hasn't played anything. I know on my DS I can find videos at http://www.dpghost.com/ and I can make iPod videos with quicktime so how would you do the same for PSP? I've tried to google PSP video sites but all i get is noise ad-filled sites that make it near impossible to find the video link and when I finally get it they still don't play. Alternatively is there a way to use the quicktime export feature to make PSP videos?

Using a Mac?

Handbrake is a good program to do video conversions/re-encoding. My psp3k supports .m4v or the ever so popular .mp4 format, and so too can a current generation ipod.

If you found a site that offers video downloads for the Ipod, then the same video can be played on the PSP, most of the time.

EDIT: Actually, Handbrake itself has an automated PSP setting, making conversions a no brainer

And here's a plus, Handbrake is available for both the PC or the Mac. I've even turned a lot of non-encrypted dvds (mostly am-pro documentaries from my college library) into psp-friendly videos for long trips.

handbrake is good for converting DVDs. I probably should have mentioned that I used it for that purpose but I can't seem to get it to recognize a regular video file. So while I was able to convert my Superman/Doomsday DVD I can't get my latest ep of the Clone Wars to convert

Hmm... that's weird. The current version can handle .mkv files (which is a hard codec/handler to work with and is not that standard or utilized outside of a niche), but your vids are not being recognized by Handbrake?

If you had a windows machine, PSP video 9 would have been your best bet, if Handbrake can't help you, I don't know what can. I'll ask around my circle of PSP lovers, and try to get back here when I got something definitive.

What do you use to rip DVDs onto your computers? Also, Game Trailers offers ipod downloads of their videos, which as rumarudrathas said work on psp.

Okay, Mpeg Streamclip should be able to help you too. I used the windows version to do file conversions some time ago, and it handled all of the video codecs that I threw at it. See if that works, and if not, I'm really at my wits end.

well i don't rip dvds often. the last time i ripped dvds with any regularity was when my iBook was still alive. I used to use MacTheRipper this was before handbrake was out there. Handbreak is pretty darn sweet. I've been meaning to try the windows version but like i said I don't bother ripping dvds for myself lately.

Yup, that's the handbrake that I was talking about it. It can do video files and DVD video conversions, and is part of my personal collection of must-have software.
