BF 1942 and/or DC Final

Does anyone here at CAG play Battlefield 1942?



More importantly the DC Final mod for BF 1942?




I was looking to starting a little game night with this classic FPS, but didn't know how many of you, if any of you, play. Just let me know.

I got it for free from Jact...after 2-3 hours, I uninstalled. It's so...bleh. I don't mind the visuals, but the gameplay feels really dated. Also, the sniper rifle for the Scout is one of the worst sniper rifles I've ever played in a game...EVER.

I don't really like BF1942 either, but the mod DC Combat is amazing.


You really have to play that, it is probably one of my favorite FPS of all time, and I have been playing FPS for some while. :]

It combines Desert Combat Extended .9 and Desert Combat Final.

You need to have desert combat final and desert combat extended .9 already installed.

That link is for the DCFX 1c patch. Underneath it gives you links to all the other things you need installed.

BF42 is one of my favorite games. Still has plenty of players, including a great 24/7 Midway server. Battleships + carriers + subs + destroyers + bombers on the same map? Hell yeah.

Also Battlefield 1943 can bite me. Hurr hurr let's make a BF game with only 24 players, 3 maps, regen health, and unlimited ammo. I remember when that stuff was considered cheating. Maybe they should add auto aim and huge arrows pointing to enemy players?

There are a few regular servers that are still packed, which is amazing for a 7 year old game. Check out Moongamers, All Lazy Bastards, and KittensPalace, I play almost every night. It's like crack.

so are they eliminating the medic and engineer classes for '43, if so that definitely takes some of the appeal away from the game. Just the idea of re-gen health and unlimited ammo in a BF is silly, at least in my opinion.

Calls in a squadron of 3 bombers controlled by the player
Ability to steer squad left and right
Switch to bomb sight to view the payload
Recharge time before it can be used again
Can be destroyed by enemy planes




So it's pretty much BF42 remade for consoles. I've also read that each of the three classes will have anti-vehicle capabilities, which is also stupid.

Again, I see no reason to pay $15-20 for this when BF42 Complete is $10 at Best Buy or Amazon.com

Infantry-only? I don't think so. Berlin and Stalingrad both focus on close-quarters combat, but there are still half tracks, jeeps, and tanks.

Infantry combat in BF42, especially on those maps, kinda sucks. Spawn camping tanks + endless nade spam? No thanks.

But you shouldn't play BF for the infantry combat. Battlefield '42 is at its best on maps like Iwo Jima, Midway, Kursk, Battle of Britain, Coral Sea, etc.
