Holy shit, that trade in coupon is insane.
I may bite on Devil May Cry 4 (to upgrade to a CE, I've seen a few used) When you use your Edge card, is it 10% off of 24.99 or 10% off of 19.99? Not that it makes a big difference, just curious.

I really don't think this coupon is as good as it looks on the surface. Granted there are a few nice flips such as SMG & SSBB if you're picking them at BBV. But when you consider that the majority of Wii games have a TIV of under $10, you're not even netting a $5.00 bonus per game like they have done in the past. And for a lot of the Wii games, you would do worse under this promotion than the trade 3 for $10 extra promo.
With that being said, I'm going to hit up more BBV's and pick up as many SMG & SSBB's as I can. I think I may also trade Mario Super Sluggers in with this promo, it would yield $32. Rock Band 2 & Sonic Unleashed would also fetch $32 if any of you have them. That is unless GS drops a bunch of Wii TIVs tomorrow when this coupon starts...which really wouldn't surprise me.

Someone said last week when the deal of the week was Gears of War that the % is off the normal price and not the promo price, i.e. $5 instead of $4 in this case.

Me neither. Great coupon though. Is that because they bring the most cash in and too many people already trade those in? What'd be good is the BBV games if any of those trade in for $15+

02-12-2009, 05:57 PM
Ugh. I already got rid of the Wii games I didn't want long before this.
Perhaps I should head to Blockbuster and pick up some of those reduced price Wii games to flip 'em at GameStop.
Also, DMC4 for $20 isn't bad at all.

Really good coupon if you have stuff to drop.
People like me who has ZIPPY to drop to GS espically anything of value its a waste but a great coupon if you can get your hands on SSBB or SMG at BBV $9.99 deal (Which I didn't see any of today)

The bolded part is something I'm curious about on the weekly sale items. Does the DMC4 for $20 apply to both the regular AND CE? If it does I might check it out just to pick up a CE for my collection (steelbooks :D:bouncy:).
One other question. Although I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem with it , but I have a copy of FFXII that I picked up used a while back. The disk is kinda beat-up (still plays but is well-worn). Could I pick up another copy from GS (my local one has plenty of copies) switch the disks (assuming the one I get is actually better:bomb:) and then just return the bad one and get my money back?
Not trying to commit return fraud here if anyone might think that , since the beat-up copy I got was from GS to begin with.

Lame. For me. I don't own a Wii, wouldn't trade in games anyhow if I did. Screw these trade-in coupons. They should release a trade-in & a used discount each week.
All I'm waiting on short-term at Gamestop is for the regular Xbox and all the games to drop. The rumor I think I saw on here is it's coming in the summer. I hope it's sooner than that.

Some people find it a hassle to sell things online. Sure, you can probably get more if you sell your games online. However, when coupons like this even the playing field, I think that entices people to consider trading their games at a Gamestop.

These "people" are called suckers. Unless you're flipping by buying at Blockbuster or something, or I guess if you only have the game disc.
I'd rather give my games away to family before accepting the ultra low trade in value. Even with this coupon, on most these games you could still get more just selling them to people.

This deal seems much better in writing than in actuallity. The most your going to get is $32 for Brawl or Sonic Unleased which is actually less than you could get for Brawl at one point. If you can find a copy for like $20 though then you can make a decent profit.

It's pretty annoying to go to the post office and check on the item and stuff with ebay. When there's only a $5 difference between what gamestop gives me and what I get on ebay I'll trade it in at gamestop. Plus when you factor in ebay and paypal fees gamestop can sometimes give you more money. For example you're getting $32 Brawl, on ebay it sells for an average of $30 which is already lower than what gamestop gives you but when factoring that $30 can become $25.
Inf^Shini
02-12-2009, 10:21 PM
Plus with Ebay, now more than ever you'll have a chance of running into people who can act like dipshits on their end of the bargai, someone screwing you over with a hacked paypal account, or perhaps something goes "wrong" through the postal service and they say they never got it, chargebacks, the all important fees, necessary shipping supplies, and other things can all be factored in when dealing on Ebay.
Years ago Ebay was awesome, but a lot of people have turned it into a sort of crapshoot nowadays.

Yeah, as others have said, selling online is a hassle and with all the fees associated with selling, you're really not turning a profit unless the game is either sealed or was just released. Otherwise you're spending however much on something to ship the item in, the actual cost of shipping, and all the fees associated with eBay and Paypal (or Amazon). Besides, the people that shop on eBay are the same people that frequent this site looking for deals. You think someone is going to pay top dollar for a used copy of a game that GS has a crappy TIV for? Bottom line, the price you want for a game is rarely going to be the price that someone else is willing to pay for it. Therefore, GS is the easier choice. You're not going to get a whole lot for a trade-in, but that's why you wait for these weekly coupons and buy games at their cheapest possible pricepoint. After all, it's stupid to think you're going to trade in something like Red Steel and have enough credit to buy House of the Dead: Overkill.
As far as the coupon, it isn't entirely bad. I mean, the only game I have available to trade is Spyro: Eternal Night, which would get me $11.20 with this coupon and EDGE. If I wait around for another "extra $5 per Wii trade-in," I get $12 even. Eh.

Some Blockbusters are selling disc-only Wii and 360 games for $10. SSBB, SMG and Mario & Sonic are among the Wii titles that are being sold, so there's definitely the opportunity to make a sizable profit using this coupon. Turning $10 into $27 or $32 is more than good enough for me. Of course, you have to be lucky enough to find a Blockbuster that's doing this sale and hope that it has a decent selection of Wii games...

Considering the deals you can get on their used games (any new release used game for under 40 with credit), GS credit is still valuable. I maximize my trade in credit with promos like these, then grab any game I want with their % off coupons.
I used to be on eBay a lot, but after getting screwed over by people and Paypal numerous times, I finally had enough. I wait for deals where I can maximize my profit with GS and just use my old games to fuel any future game purchases. As a result, I have been able to play pretty much every game I want the last several years without having to spend a dime of my actual money. And I no longer have to waste time online dealing with increasingly frustrating buyers, or going to the PO, or going to store to buy packing supplies, or packaging everything up.
It's worth giving all that up and taking a bit less from GS, as long as I am smart in how I do business with them.

You can buy anything they sell with your trade in credit.
You cannot trade in those games and get the extra TIV bonus though, which is lame. They should have at least offered an extra 25% for them or something.

I'm debating whether I should do this or eBay a few select games. I had no idea Wario Ware was still so sought-after. I usually end up trading in unless I can make $10 extra or more by going with eBay; time is money, and it's usually not worth my while to eBay.

1st is a card for
"Purchase Rockband 2 (game only) on Wii for $39.99. [Reg $49.99]"
Second, "30% bonus- Get a 30% Bonus on any games traded toward the purchase of Any new Wii System, Games, or Accessories."

Thanks for the post. I picked up the Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 at GameStop for the $20ish - 10% for the Edge card. I tried to stack the 10% coupon on top of it, but it didn't take (like you said, but it was worth trying). The workers, of course, didn't even know that the game's price had been reduced. They were also equally unaware about the Wii trade in coupon.

I wonder what they'll give for it now. The last reported price is $9, but that was a month ago, which I believe was before the new price dropped to $19.99. GS, however, still has not dropped the used price. Hopefully this will get people to trade it in, so that the stores around here will actually have used copies when GS drops the used price.

I doubt you'd get more than $25 for Smash Bros.
Doesn't Circuit City have 40%? If you combined that with this, you could potentially make a killing!
Well, the 40% off at cc is off msrp. So even if the current retail has dropped they take it off the original msrp. Thus, no killing to be made except yourself as you will lose money trying this idea.

Does anyone know if the greatest hits version of Fable (which happens to be the Lost Chapters version) is $9.99 as well?

Think GameStop's treating it as the same UPC.
Isn't that some BS, though? Fable used to be dirt cheap. Now they hiked their price up to $17.99 all because of Fable II.

I'd love for this weeks ad to start the Xbox clearance. Games and consoles at severely discounted prices. I want a couple more original Xboxes.
