Scratchy noises from my UMD disk... normal?

All right, so I just picked up a PSP 2000, and I popped in Jeanne D'Arc, however whenever the disk would load something it would make scratchy, whirring noises.

I've stopped playing it, partly because I'm scared it will fuck up my disk, and partly because I didn't bother to get a memory card to save my progress (and I'm not going to play a T-RPG in one sitting without having a need to go to a previous save point), but I'd like to know whether it's something I should try to fix, or if I should just ignore it.

It's normal. I thought the same thing when I got my PSP.

Its normal, you are afterall so close to the disc drive. Like audio cd walkmans.

The 'scratching' sound is either most likely the lens moving up and down to read the disc. It's somewhat loud, but normal.
