looks like i'll be getting this now. i liked the demo and it's received heaps of praise, but $15 (1200 points) was WAY too much for me. Thanks CheapyD!

Hope this trend continues. After the support from December, and all the praise Steam has been getting over its DLC and online "Sales" its no wonder more people haven't considered following suit.

The game is not worth 400 Microsoft Points in my opinion. It's crappy and Jonathan Blow is a pretentious douchebag that cries like a little bitch. The only reason I have it is because Spike TV gave me a download code for free and I still hate it.
Flame away, but I cannot stand Braid or it's holier than thou creator Jonathan Blow. He just annoys the crap out of me.

That is the business model that is ticking me off with Microsoft. Quit limiting sales to the Gold members only. When people are required to pay for a service just to get the sale price it isn't really a sale.

Demos were fine. Free DLC is acceptable, if annoying. This, however, sucks, but what can you do.

Ya, it's a pain but gold isn't that expensive. With the recent sales on gold memberships it ends up being about 2.50 a month.
Also, you could just create a fake account (which gives you a free month of gold anyways) and then buy an 800 point card from BB, CC to get it. Since it will be associated with both the gamertag that downloaded it and the console you will be able to play it with your silver account. A pain in the butt i know but it's a work around.

Not to change the topic, but I also noticed Puzzle Quest is also down to 800 points.

I seem to recall it dropping about a year ago, but it might be more or less.

For everybody who can buy it: BUY IT and show MS that 800 point XBLA games are what they should always charge
Bought for exactly that reason. Well, not that reason alone... I did want the game. But I'm done with games over 800 points. I did buy Castle Crashers, but if I had a second chance, I would wait.
Interesting that after looking at the list of LIVE Arcade games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_Live_Arcade_games), all of the games over 800 points (except CC, Braid and Penny Arcade 1) were released recently... October 2008 - present. Hopefully they haven't sold too well and will mark down some more of those more pricey games... and hopefully people will buy them and send a message that more people will buy them if they're priced a bit lower.
Here's hoping that SSF II Turbo HD and Portal are lowered. I'll buy both of them if and when they're marked down to 800.

Nope. We have too many "gotta have it now" people out there. Most of those, if not all, will remain $15 for the remainder of this year if not longer.

I am one of the few that hates this game. I played the trial and couldn't tell what the big fuss was about. On the other hand my girlfriend loved it and said she'd play it if I bought it. Which is rare because she only finds maybe two games a year that she actually wants to play. I'll probably be getting this, maybe I'll give it a second chance. I still have like 8000 points left from when I spent 280 dollars of gamestop credit on MS points when I decided I was done with them.

I'm really torn on this. All reports are putting this game at around 5 or so hours of play. Wtih so many games from last generation, I usually aim to get an hour of play for every dollar I spend on a game (a figure that I just don't get on most arcade games).
That being said, Braid was heavily recognized as a GOTY candidate by Game Informer, which I actually tend to like their reviews, especially on 1 player games.
Wish this was about 2-3 weeks from now and not this week. Playing through Ratchet & Clank - Going Commando and Fable - Lost Chapters for the first time, and enjoying both games immensely. I know I can buy the game and hold off playing it, but in 2-3 weeks, I'll want to purchase another game (since this one won't feel new anymore).

If you played the demo and loved it, I highly recommend it. You can beat the game in less than 5 hours, but it's not really the kind of game you rush through. I probably played it for 15+ hours and didn't do all the speed runs. The world is beautiful, the puzzles are fun, and getting the stars is challenging and brings, in my opinion, a bit more closure to the experience. It's definitely a quality v. quantity argument for me and I felt like it was a steal for 1200 points. I found it more enjoyable than most $60 retail titles.
I might buy it again since I've moved away from an xbox since it came out and I'd like another run through it. Plus my new roommate hasn't played it.
As for Jonathan Blow, I agree his ideas can come off as a bit too heady and pretentious, but, all in all, I feel he's a unique voice in game design and theory. He has some brilliant ideas and I look forward to see what he's working on next.
For anyone who enjoyed Braid or likes cool comics, I recommend checking out David Hellman's A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversible. (http://www.alessonislearned.com/) Hellman did the art for Braid and his comic sometimes explores similar themes to Braid. Also, fortunately for us CAGs, it's free. :)

I don't know, I bet it would get too hard for me. These types of games usually drive me nuts (though vary rarely they don't-Like I loved The Adventures of Lolo 2, and I'm sure there are other examples).
EDIT: If it was a retail game I can totally see $15 (or more), but for a rental that's pricey.

I liked the demo and have wanted this game for a while. Looks like waiting around for no reason saved me $5. Hopefully they keep this "deal of the week" thing going for a long time. It's good business on their part, especially after how Valve revealed their sales numbers on Steam. Like when they discount games they see a huge spike in copies sold, an actually make more of a profit.
Interesting read on Steam game pricing a profits here: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22378

2-3 hours and then a replay for the 60 minute achievement. It's a puzzle game and once you know the puzzles, it's fairly pointless.

I would say that I feel stupid for paying full price for this a few months ago but whatever, the points are gone, I played and enjoyed the game, so it doesn't matter. Good deal for those that haven't played it yet. The only thing I don't like is how to get the "true" ending. I've looked up how to do this (haven't done it yet) and I don't know how you're supposed to figure it out without a guide. It sucks that I have to restart the game just to do it. I might try it one day just for the achievements but I played through the game the normal way and it was worth the money spent.
I'm on board for a Castle Crashers reduction since that's the next game I'm looking to purchase. I don't know if I should wait for a price drop or just purchase it already. I suppose I'll hold out for a little while longer.

I bought Braid last night. I loved the demo but with all the other games I have to play and all the RB2 songs I wanted to spend points on, I didn't want to pay $15 for it. It's also hard to justify spending $15 on a short game like Braid, as cool as it is, when you can get Bioshock or Mass Effect for $15. $10 made it worth it to me though.
I played for quite a while last night, and man do I love this game. The puzzles are super clever, and I just got more and more impressed as I solved more of them. It's really soothing yet sort of tense at the same time. I can see how people call it pretentious, but I thought the story really enhanced the play mechanic of being able to go back and correct mistakes. Awesome game.

Really, I truly enjoy removing pages of off-topic posts because people derail threads with commentary about XBL, its costs and its "entitlements".
Go take the XBL costs conversation elsewhere to another thread. Don't litter this one up with that off-topic conversation.
Edited title to clarify that this is a deal for XBL Gold members only. Next time, PM a mod about an incorrect title.

I actually decided that Braid would be the next game I buy from XBLA. This sale just made me get it sooner. I then had enough points left over for Catan.

Yah, I agree that the dev is a twat, but I did really enjoy the demo. I liked the art style, the music, and the clever gameplay.

I got a free copy of it from a contest on the Braid site. I wanted it, but I hated having much to do with Johnathon Blow, because like someone else said, he's a pretentious whiny baby.
Game wasn't bad, but even parts of it come through there.

Finished the game yesterday. Nice hand-drawn animations, beautiful music that does not become boring, inventive puzzles with different solving pattern for each world (6 worlds in total). However, once you learn the pattern for each world, the puzzles are not very difficult. About half I was usually able to solve on the first run.
And with zero replayability, I wonder how could they sell this game for $15 a pop. Even $10, IMHO is a stretch. This game would be an excellent pickup for $5 as Sony does when they have sales on PSN.

Yea I am really dumb at this game lol but I surprised myself many times over.:bouncy: Its a great game, more like an experience but I do not look forward to beating the game since I don't think I'll want to go back and grab all the pieces, (too many other games/achievements to play/grab).

I just finished the game today, and it was a lovely experience. However, there really isn't any replay value in it unless you want to collect all the hidden stars after you have collected the pieces.
The $15 price point is pretty high for this game, but $10 isn't bad to see such great creativity in a game.

I beat it last night and now all I have is time trials left for achievements. i still don't really care for it but can see why people might like it. Just not my type of game but don't regret buying. Would if I spent 15 on it though.

So has anyone confirmed yet if these deals work if your using a 1 month or 48 hour code? I dont really play online much so I hate to rebuy a gold membership just for the deals....but if I could just buy a handfull of 48 hour codes and those work that would be perfect.

No as the 48 hour codes are not Gold memberships, but 48 hours of online multiplayer.

Still trying to decide if I should spring for this or flOwer. I tried the demo and thought it was "okay" but am still unsure if it's worth the 800 ms points. I really don't care for the developer either but if the full game is a worthwhile experience, than I can live with it. Thanks for the post, OP.

This was one of my favorite games of last year, downloadable or otherwise. At $15 it was still totally worth the experience, and it's also one of the only "games as art" creations that I actually like (and I felt actually held up as a game). I think of it as a gaming short story; once you've figured out the puzzles it's fairly simple (though the puzzles are hard, and there are extra items to find beyond the regular game), but the first time through is amazing, and it's got the same kind of "replay value" as a well-written book.
If you're interested in something that pushes gaming forward as a storytelling/artistic medium, Braid is a no-brainer purchase at $15 or $10. If you're just interested in a difficult but logical puzzle game that has little replay value, it's debatable but I think for $10 it's worth it.

The lower price point was the temptation and this quote was the straw the broke the camel's back. I'm getting it now just because good ol' Soulja hates it.

Wasn't sure of picking this up, but after downloading the demo and playing through the 1st level, it was an automatic buy. I love the impressionist style of the art, the lead character isn't doing it for me, but everything else is gorgeous.
I'm at work right now and can't wait to play this when I get home, and this is on top of my SFIV addiction.

Agreed. I think the main guy is ugly and the story was too umm emo for my taste. At first I found the game challeging and only got like 2 pieces on each level then once I figured out what I was supposed to be doing I got the others pretty easily.
Guess its just a matter of taste.

Surpised you didn't get stuck on a few pieces at the end (and really I think people who don't get a little stuck on a few of the pieces cheated). If you want a real challenge go for the stars. They are nearly impossible to find by yourself, but if you find a list of what levels they are on, you have a chance to find them.

Maybe some other time. Only one I got stuck on late in the game with where the key kept falling everytime I went up the ladder. I didn't cheat on it because I wanted to get my moneys worth out of it because I knew it was short. I will cheat on the speed runs though if I ever feel like playing it again.

Downloaded the game, true the lead character isn't that appealing, but I loved everything about the game, music, impressionist style, and the puzzles. I looked at gamefaqs on 1 of the puzzles in the first level and realized I'd be cheating myself of an experience if I did the same for the rest of the game.
I don't know much about the dev, (seems not highly regarded) but this game truly is a marvel, haven't used this much of my noggin playing in a while, oh and the ending is nice.
Let's go castle crashers.

I realized I was just getting frustrated. I've checked out a few gamefaqs and I still cant figure out what the hell is going on with the time-gimmick in level 5. Where your shadow pops out and looks at the ground; seems to be really inconistent in how the shadow behaves (which, I am assuming means I'm not doing it right). I played for about thirty minutes and I was ready to never play the game again. Last time I got this frustrated was while playing the first boss in Too Human.
Just frustrating in a not fun way. And I've really enjoyed Braid up until this point (and do want to finish it).
Can someone explain in laymans terms how the shit I am supposed to control my shadow?
(PS, our CAG search engine really sucks)
