Okay, back to this no tax on store credit issue, anyone know if it applies online? What about ordering online in NY?
I would try it outmyself but I have no store credit as of now, but I will be trading in some stuff tomorrow. And I would like to pick up some stuff with the B2G1 online, but if it no tax, I might just search NY for a store that has 3 games I want.
I live in NY and have made B+M credit purchases with no tax added. However, when I add things online to purchase with store credit it still pops up with an estimated sales tax (though it does say this is just an estimate actual tax charged may be different). I'm not going to make a purchase just to find out.
Can anyone confirm if using credit saves you from tax when purchasing online?

To be honest they were kind of banged up, especially Zone of the Enders 2, I wouldn't have wanted to sell/trade them to another collector, if they're anything like me.

Yea that's what I'm doing. Street Fighter 4 has been popping up like crazy around me. I plan on buying every SF4 and Star Ocean I come across. I'm not even going to the RE5 launch tonight. Im just goin to hit a few GS tomorrow and grab those games. With my plan I can flip those two games and get the ones I want without spending too much cash. I can't let the B2G1 deal pass me by like last time. After I've shopped and flipped enough. I'll go get my RE5 stuff.

Separate transactions, and I did not have the Edge Card handy on all of them (I actually bought the Edge Card in one of the transactions). So, I'm sure that will make up for any difference, or I could have made a typo, I'll double-check right now.
Edit: Just double-checked my receipt, I guess the kid forgot to scan my Edge Card (even though I did clearly see him do it). So, I'll have to see if I can get them to credit me the $17; since it's their fault to begin with. I know most of the people there, so it shouldn't be a problem. I hate stupid new kids, then again, I probably should have double-checked while I was there, but the total sounded about right, so I didn't bother to double-check really.

Yeah, it's annoying when they just give you a total instead of telling you the individual values (or better yet, having it come up on the little screen)... harder to notice mistakes like that, or a refurb fee they sneak in here or there.

I like to calculate my total before I go to GS. That way I can catch them if they make a mistake. They hate when I stand over them while they process my games. They always ask me if I would like to search for anything while they take care of the games. Then they insist when I tell them I'll wait until I find out my total. I like to lean over the desk and ask a lot of questions lol.

Yeah, I actually calculated prices before going, I originally wasn't planning to get the Edge, so I didn't include it in my totals. I also deducted a fair amount, from price drops I expected (so let's say I'd take off at least $12 - $15; for out-dated prices). The end total seemed about right, so I really didn't notice this time.
However, now comparing the receipt to my receipt from the other GS, I can clearly tell they didn't give me a bonus on any of the 18 games I traded in at that one location (the entire top-section, and the two Wii games are from the store that apparently didn't give me the Edge bonus).
Edit: Calculating all of those together (Bourne to Ninja Gaiden 2 + the two Wii games), they actually owe me $23.52 in credit.

Yea I deduct from my totals too. Some of these TIV are really outdated. Its nice when you expect something to be worth nothing only to find out that its TIV jumped up a few dollars. I had a few of those, and the fact that they try and slip in refurb fees. So sometimes its hard to get an accurate reading. Some employees don't mind saying the TIV of every game while they process. A lot of them act like it will kill them to do so.

Updated. Worth noting, this will be the last update until around 5PM or so. I'm going to be taking down my main method for beating my work content filter (that I helped put in place) so unless I get creative getting on CAG isn't going to be the easiest today. Of course, I tend to find a way around it most of the time, just a heads up.

I had over 74+ Xbox 360 games, all of these were expendable, and aren't even near being my good / better games. The only ones I didn't want to trade-in, but had to for enough credit to get a PS3, were Dead Space and Gears 2 (partially QoS too, but I beat that on all difficulties already, so not much replay value; I also 100% Fable II twice and have 1,100 out of 1,100 - so didn't care to keep that).
Almost everything I traded in, I did for a reason (I beat pretty much all of those, and or other reasons like above). Xbox 360 is well worth buying, it's still my favorite system. Trading in 360 games just seems to get the most credit for this deal, so that's why you see a lot of people doing this.
For me, I chose to get a PS3, because I never played my Wii, and had all of these useless games just sitting here, so I figured, why not; and traded them in, and bought a PS3, since I not only want a Blu-Ray player, but I also have wanted to play MGS4 for quite some time, among other games.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the subject of my trade, I had my brother go down (he lives right near the GS, I live an hour away from that one) with my Edge Card and receipts. They refused to give him the $23.52 credit.
They stated that "they already gave me the maximum percentage towards the trade-ins that they could".. laughable excuse. I had a receipt from earlier that morning, where I traded in the lower-half of my list (from another store); odd, that the Edge Card didn't seem to have this imaginary "maximum percentage limit" that this other GS has.
So, I'll be going an hour out of my way tomorrow, and I'll be going there and politely as I can, demand the money that is owed to me. I already sent GS an e-mail, and will call them in the morning. I'm not leaving the store until I get my credit; I don't care how much it is, it's the principle of the matter.. it's not my fault the new kid didn't scan my Edge Card for the trades.. and if they argue that there is no proof I had an Edge Card, then I will point them to the receipt, to the Edge Card the employee put my credit on.
Tomorrow will be a fun day (also, when I bought the PS3 there, they didn't give me the $50 GC - so I made them re-due the entire transaction to give me the GC).

Edge card for getting credit put on it can be separate from Edge discounts. Make sure you show them that you have the yellow discount sticker on your Edge card. You may already know this but what they did sucks and I want to make sure you get your money.

Yeah, but I actually got the Edge Card that day with my first trade-in, so it shows my Edge Card was clearly activated / purchased - and thanks, hopefully I'll get it, otherwise I'll start involving things they don't want to know about (BBB and the D.M.). I'm not going to be screwed over by them, they've done that enough to people already - even if it's only $23, it's still rightfully owed to me, it's not my fault they hired an incompetent employee that didn't scan my card.

The primary reason I would like to trade is for Resident Evil 5 and it costs $64.64 (tax included in price). The very top 8 games total TIV is $65.99, so basically I have to trade in eight games for RE5. Although I never play these games it is hard to give up eight games for just one. I have an aching feeling that I'll only play RE5 for a week and it will collect dust (just like LBP TT).
Do they load the credit on my edge card (do they give cash back)? I wonder if someone traded in their copy of Resident Evil 5.
Any suggestions?

I never really got the whole concept of trading in games. I have a lot of old PS2 games that I haven't even LOOKED at in forever, but I'm always weary of trading in because I doubt I would get that much money. I've seen kids with stacks of games get offered like 5$. I don't see a way that someone could take advantage of GS's trade in system and come out on top....

I don't see a way that someone could take advantage of GS's trade in system and come out on top....
The best is when they use to do the "trade in 2 current-gen games and get an extra $10 credit" promos. You could pick up some clearance games at Sears for $2 or $3 each. They would often still get $4 or $5 at GS, so you could end up with like $15 or $20 credit for around $5 out of pocket. Anyway, the last time they ran the promo, though, it was 3 games for $10 credit. Not as great, obviously.
But when they do these percentage bonuses, you can still make out pretty well. Maybe not as much as you would from eBay or something, but after you consider fees, jerky buyers, and instant gratification, it's not too bad.
It's all about finding the games somewhere for cheaper than TIV w/bonus. It's like Easter only more frustrating and more rewarding.

I'm seeing people trade in games like Halo Wars for $25. Even the extra 40% bonus only gets you another $10. I would have gladly paid more in cash.
Please, PM me your lists and I'll see if there's something I can do for you. I can Paypal quickly!

According to the B2G1 thread, they've already gotten some trouble thanks to it. Of course, anyone who tries to push their luck taking advantage of the situation runs the risk of getting banned from GS.

Ouch, what a ripoff. Considering they turn around and sell M&L: PiT for $30 used, you're only getting 26.7% for the selling price base, and a max of 40% with the bonus. Especially for a game as difficult to find, especially complete/mint, as this.

Pikmin 2 (GC) - $15.25
Trauma Center: New Blood (Wii) - $7.00
Guitar Hero: World Tour (360) - $20.00
and a weird situation with Scene It: LCA (360)...i traded in the whole set, but they broke it into 2 different items: the game and the controllers. however, they said the entry for the controllers was removed from the system so the manager said to just count it as a first party wireless controller.
Scene It: LCA (360) - $5.00
XBox 360 Wireless Controller - $19.50

Just got around to looking at my receipt from yesterday. Traded in nine 360 games and found two TIVs that went up!
As of 3/13
Battlefield: Bad Company - $9 (up $2!)
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - $10 (up $2!)
That worked out for me. Spent about $125 on the games, played all of them and then traded in for a total of $130.50. Yay.
edit: Yes to Buzzman's Q.
And I found this very strange.
Battlefield: Bad Company - $5.00 (down $2)
It's like they took the $2 off the PS3 version and gave it to the 360. That doesn't make any sense.

That's about $30 per pop for those three major titles, which as far as I see, is fair enough for me. I'll miss them, sure, but I won't feel bad because i'll be getting new games (three new ones, because of their current deals)

Either different price or not on the list:
Devil May Cry- 2.00
Dark Cloud 2 - 5.50
Silent Hill 2 - 5.50
Resident Evil 4 - 4.50
Beyond Good and Evil - 1.75
GTA 3 - 2.00
They wouldn't take San Andreas because it was the first issue with hot coffee, and that would have been about 10 bucks! Anyone have any luck trading that? He seemed to look at it forever.
All in all, 55 bucks wasn't bad for games I will never play again.

Resident Evil 5 for 360 base TIV is 30....
my launch day xbox red ringed as I was playing RE5 so I took the opportunity to upgrade to the Elite Resident Evil xbox, only paid 40 for the game, got 39 trade in after promo, so made out ok.
A broken xbox with wireless controller gets 65 bucks after refurb and 25 dollar promo.

Working on updating, but I need to say again, if you are going to post values please put which systems they are for. Designate some how. Most of you are doing this, however some are not. I will not post those values if they do not have someway of marking what system it was for.

Naruto Broken Bonds - $49.49

First time I'm going to trade stuff in so sorry ahead of time for some silly noob questions.
If you trade a system or accessories with 6 games do you get an extra 50% TIV on them too? If not does the Edge card just give you 10% extra TIV on the system and accessories?
I only want to trade in a couple games if they net above a certain price and report back the prices. When trading in games do you have to stand near the counter and ask them the TIV or does it show up on the receipt?
Thanks
You will not get the 50% TIV bonus on accessories or systems. You will get the 10% extra on your accessories but not on the system. If it it's one of the systems listed in the title you will get a $25 trade-in bonus on that. The TIV will be listed on the receipt.

Does Gamestop balk if you trade-in games that have their own price stickers on them? I always remove them, but this time I found that those stickers seem to be damned hard to remove from PS3 game cases. I almost ended up trading the games in disc-only, but I didn't want to do that to other gamers, so I removed the damnable stickers anyway. Alternatively, does anyone have tips on how to get those stickers off easier?
bigdaddybruce44
03-16-2009, 11:32 AM
They shouldn't. I have done that once or twice in the past without any issue. If anything, they should be glad you aren't there to try and argue that you should be able to return it for a full refund.

Gamestop doesn't care what's on the case, as far as I've experienced. Like you said, they'll take the disc only and give you same credit (according to corporate policy anyway, so it shouldn't matter. They traded in games that had game crazy tags on them from me once, without any issue.

I had a few games with GS stickers on them in my trade in this time. But I wasn't worried about it because they were all games I bought a while back & played. I guess I only feel dirty about it when they're flips. But the stickers were all marked higher than what I actually paid, so at least it looked like I lost money on the trade.

It really depends on the gamestop you go to, but at the ones I visited this weekend, they didn't mind at all. In fact, it made it easier for them to ring the games up for the trade-ins, since they just scanned their own stickers.
As for restrictions, only original XBox games are restricted from this since they're no longer taking trade-ins on that system. I actually went into a store this weekend, and the extremely helpful staff allowed me to select 3 $.99 PS2 games to trade in with my 2 SFIV PS3 and 1 SFIV X360 copies.
They actually rang up the 6 game trade-in before "charging" me for the 3 PS2 games.

I got about $68 trading in 2 old 360 games (Facebreaker and Indy/Kung Fu Panda pack) and about 12-15 old PS2 games. I ended up getting RE5 for it so I'm thrilled as hell. Hopefully I'll be able to score an Elite by trading in my old 360 and older games I don't play anymore.

so for the 6 game 40% thing, how would they do it if you walked in with like 15 games? I'm thinking about unloading a ton of games I'd never play again, and maybe along with an older 360 too. Those deals combine or do they count as separate? I normally do all my flipping through ebay, sorry for the dumb questions.
Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero Aerosmith
Crackdown
The Darkness
Call of Juarez
The Club
Stranglehold
Forza 2
Project Gotham Racing 4
All Pro Football 2k8
Madden 2008
Gears of War
Perfect Dark Zero
Kameo
Oblivion
Left 4 Dead
xbox 360 core w/20 gig HDD.
It would be 40% on all games and extra 10% if you have edge
If this is a one time deal don't get an edge card but if you are going to do this often its worth it.

I got some games from the B2G1 deal. I bought 2 sets. I traded in 2 games from each set. I still have 1 game that I paid for from each set. Can I return those games for a refund? Or do I need the other 2 games from each set?

well, to return them, you'd need to have the receipt and they would see that you got them from the B2G1 and probably give so BS about trying to cheat them out of money or something.

I doubt they would let you return just the one. If you were exchanging it for another game of the same price, they would probably be more likely to do so. Returning for a refund is going to be highly unlikely.

Thanks for the info. I'll just see if they have a Star Ocean. So I'll trade my GOW2 for it. I just didn't want to get stuck with the disc. Since its so scratched. I know If I trade it in later I'm going to get hit with a refurb fee. Why do they charge refurb fees if the discs still look like horror movies. Hopefully I'll get some time to exchange it. I'll just look for Star Ocean if I can't find it I'll just exchange for a better looking GOW2 disc.

Yes, I'm sorry to jest; that is kind of known to be a big thing with Gamestop; in general, trading in multiples in one transaction is frowned upon. GS employees are 'trained' to use to look for that as a sign of possible 'stolen merchandise'. Don't worry, though...all you have to do is take your multiples to multiple gamestops; you also might have to buy a few cheap filler games if you are trying to achieve one of the bonus trade in tiers.
Just go to a bunch of different stores and make a day out of it...it's fun!

I have a DSlite which is really scratched up on the back with many small fine scratches but nothing that is deep.
Since they are giving $45 trade in + $25 extra getting $70 for seems like a good way to get rid of it since I don't want it anymore. Worth it?

Would anybody here be interested in something such as www.tivs.ca except that indexes American prices?
I think that would take work and cooperation from people on CAG. I wouldn't mind keeping track of the EB/GameStop trade in values on a third party site but CAG would be my first priority and I don't have any coding/wed design experience though.

I can't speak for others but I know I could do that. When I would do an update to the CAG listing I would do it at the same time for the 3rd party site. With some of the weird values that have been showing up I'm not sure how good a drop down menu would be but I could be wrong on that. Also how easy would it be to add a game that wouldn't have currently been listed?

Not really the case in my experience. I've been to one location that told me they'll only take in 2 of the same title. The other 6 or 7 locations I go to don't bat an eyelash. During that BBV flip last summer I had one location accept 7 spiderman 3's and 9 golden compasses in one transaction. The manager only paid attention to see if the discs weren't scratched too much and was busy disussing MGS4 with me the remainder of the time.

Whenever something like this happens...when some clueless employee won't let you do something that is pretty clearly not in the wrong...just ask to see the manager. I mean, it's not like you were trying to exchange a $5 game for Resident Evil 5. Geez.

I think they can do it based on name/phone number. I thought I had lost my card once. They were starting to do some sort of look up and found it hidden behind another credit card. They didn't seem too concerned so I concluded that they could do a look up if needed.

As far as I know they can pull your info from a copy of GI that was mailed to your current address. You know the customer info box thing printed on the cover? It has something on it that a GS employee in the know can use to pull up your edge info. I saw this done here in Atlanta about 1-2 years back while at a GS. Assuming the system hasn't changed since then that is.

If this was at the store that you originally bought the games, then that is total crap. I exchanged one of my B2G1 games at a different Gamestop and even got a game that was ten dollars less than the one I was exchanging for (though it was the free game so I didn't get a refund). It took a little while for the guy to figure out how to do it, but he did it with no complaints. I would either ask for a manager as someone else has said or go to a different GS.

It was the same store that I made the original purchase at. Even more odd, I have a really good rapport with the the employees there. I'm one of those people who realizes that life is easier and more productive if you are polite to people. Also, it wasn't the free game either which I could see might have made it more complicated. No big deal though. I managed to do the same thing at a different store last night.

Yeah, that is weird. Next thing you know, they will deny you a trade-in of multiple of controllers. Anyway, that's the funny thing about GS employees. They will either not enforce their policies or enforce them to the absolute extreme.

I don't know for sure, but I think they can only look up your info if you've actually used your Edge card for trade-ins at that store before. I know one place by me was able to look it up and the other place wasn't, but they may just have been lazy/didn't know how to do it.
If you have your Edge number from an old receipt lying around, though, just give it to them and they can just use that number. I've been doing that since I lost my actual Edge card months ago.

Just remember, they CAN be bribed (at least at a couple of GS I went to). They tried that with me (3 controllers, multiple memory cards, 2 guitar hero world tour) saying "sorry, I can only take 1 of each". At that point, I simply told the guy, "come on, I'll pre-order something"...and he said, really? ok! Multiples accepted! At another store, it took an offer of 2 pre-orders for them to crack, but it worked. They get pre-order numbers, I get my trade credit. Win-Win!

FYI, might need to update the TiV of one game. I traded it in today, so yeah.
:ps3: Star Wars Force Unleashed - $15.00
if anyone has this, please call Hasting's before trading in. with a 5 dollar bonus trade in coupon(for any new release) they are still giving 40 dollars (after coupon) for this! (Dont quote me on that, call to make sure)

for the metal gear solid essentials collection on ps2, do I have to trade in the set of 3 or can I trade in each individually? I was just wondering since I believe the artwork on the boxes is different.
You should be able to trade them individually. I have seen them used at GS stores. Of course, knowing GS, they were opening up the sets and trying to make more money off of them.

sorry i meant the system, plus i add 25 because of current deal right?
from the Opening post:
Hardware
Core unit + wired controller - $70 (2/23/09)
Core unit + wireless controller - $80 (3/19/09)
20 GB HD - $18 (3/19/09)
so you would get the core unit TIV + $25 then an additional $18 for the HDD because they treat them as two different things when you trade a system in.

Street Fight 4 seems to be going down pretty fast. Seems like the right time to buy it now.
