So was this really as bad as the reviews made it sound? Or did EA just pay everyone off? Or a little of both?

I'm playing it right now and I enjoy it. There isn't much to do besides Franchise and Season but I got mine when it was $5 at Meijer, but I would have bought it for $18.

Unless you want to put that $18 toward NHL 09, which is far superior.

I'm tempted since I've traditionally liked the arcade-y versions of hockey- I'm not into the whole massive sim thing for hockey (one comment about 2K9 said they liked it because it didn't feel like you had to do trigonometry to get a shot off), I just want a good pick up and play sort of hockey game, that's still halfway realistic (no big heads or players bursting into sparks).. is 2K9 probably the better game for that this year?

Yeah, as much as I hate EA and the fact that NHL 09 has some major bugs, it is still far superior to NHL2K9.

If you like the last gen hockey video games but dont really follow hockey i suggest 2k7. Its the last game that you can pass and shoot with the buttons insted of the right stick. I havent watched much hockey since the strike so it has alot more of the players i know anyway and i didnt want to spend the time learning the right stick shooting.

Wow. NHL 09 was the first NHL game I've purchased since NHL 2002, and the only reason I bought 2002 was because Lemieux was on the cover :bow:

This is interesting, because I got the 2K9 at the Meijer sale, and have had a very severe love/hate relationship with it, so now I am curious as to whether I would like 09 better.

One thing that bothers me about 2K9 is the announcers. They obviously got some random voice actors who don't watch or follow hockey and don't pronounce the player names properly.

Also, there's not a whole lot of things they say. It's very redundant. I'm about halfway through a season and I can already pretty much finish any sentance they start.

So is 09 any better/worse for announcement? Yeah, it seems like a minor aspect to complain about, but announcement makes up a pretty big part of the overall gameplay when you think about it...or is that just me?

I have NHL 09 and it is my favorite game ever. I'm still going to get this just because of the use of the CBA rules and better dynasty.

Oh and somebody was talking about the announcers.... NHL 2K9 has the San Jose Sharks announcers. I think they are both annoying and stupid (naturally as a Stars fan) as I have Center Ice and have to listen to them from time to time.

Good deal. Thinking of picking up for the more arcade feel of it but godamn the EA sports NHL game really blows this one out of the water.
