Compusa.com has reconditioned Full BC 60GB PS3's for $289, WAY Cheaper than Gamestop.

Please Endulge if you've been waiting on the PS3, It's the only system I'd own, especially after my XBOX went the way of the Red Ring!
In addition, you should be able to get a 1 year warranty from Square Trade for 34.00.
While this isn't CHEAP per say, it's hard enough to get a hold of 60GB Models, and the price ain't bad.
Later!

A refurb PS3 shouldn't be that much of a problem. However, if we were talking about an Xbox 360...

Not sure if this is true or not.. but there is a rumor that 60Gb PS3 today, if you update with the latest firmware will render the backward compatibility useless?
Anybody heard of this issue?

I have a 60GB Playstation 3 with B/C and I think I've used the B/C once. Honestly, if it's that big of a deal for you, just get a PS2. Unless all you do is play video games all day every day, I don't think you really gonna miss the B/C.

It's bullshit.
I have a 60GB PS3 running the latest firmware and have no issues playing PS2 games.
Besides, that would sort of be ridiculous considering the 60 GB PS3 is backwards via hardware and not software.

To each their own. However the PS3 is my first "Playstation" system. And I've played through 10+ PS2 games and 1 PS1 game that I never had a chance to play prior.
Also, I really don't want to have to bother with yet another console hooked up to my entertainment system. That's the beauty of the fully backwards compatible PS3s.

You're joking right? What gets the yellow light of death? 60gb PS3's? Refurbs? I have a 60 gig and personally don't know anyone with a launch PS3 that's had problems. I use mine constantly, and it's a tank. I know, there have been people who have had problems, but 90% of them are the bluray drive, which they swap out with a new one on a refurb. So if anything, the refurb 60gb are the best you can get. I would not hesistate to buy a refurb if I ever need another bluray player. PS2 BC is well worth it, and the launch PS3's are tanks.

I use the BC in my 60 gig all the time. Playing through HDMI with 5.1 on the same cable and input on my TV is well worth it IMO, especially when a refurb or used 40g is the same price as a 60gig refurb with BC in it. Plus I don't extra consoles sitting in my cabinet, especially with that huge old xbox taking up all of that space in there.
