Best Buy wouldn't agree over the phone about the GC.

Fresh out of TRU with RE5 and my gift card.

The 6 hour wait is apparently real but only applies to the $50 card received for purchasing the game with a 360. I saw it noted in the fine print of one of the signs.

Just a heads up for people buying the CE at TRU, the cashier wouldn't give me a gift card with the CE. She said it was only for the standard edition. Needless to say I was pretty pissed off to find this out.

Just got back from Bestbuy, picked up a free copy of The Lost and the Damned, with the 20 bucks I saved.

...because The Lost and the Damned couldn't be purchased at TRU with a $20 GC?

Ask for a manager. That's what I did and they took $20 off of the Collector's Edition. I had a whole spiel about how I was buying the advertised game and I'm even paying more than the regular edition price, so I should be entitled to the card. Which is certainly true, even though I knew in the back of my mind that I wasn't going to get the $20 card with the CE. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask a manager, I say.

Resident Evil 5 CE at $69.99 FTW.

I was in a rush and couldn't wait for the manager, maybe it's worth it to try and go back to get the gift card.

i just called my local toys r us (Bay Parkway, Brooklyn) and they said they have it in stock for anyone that lives around me

Went to that TRU and picked up a copy! The gift card I got was a 6hr wait one and expires in april 30.

I wanted to pick up Pinocchio but they were out of the Blu-Ray. Looks like that $20 giftcard will go towards Pokemon platinum.

it could, for those who are wanting ideas on what to use the gift card on.

However if you have read this thread, people are saying it can't be used for 6 hours after the purchase. Also in my case, I don't have a toyRus near me, it is in the next city over. While BB is down the street from me.

Anybody know where the heck to find the ad on the ToysRus website? I can't seem to find it to print it out to price-match at BestBuy and I don't have a physical copy either.

EDIT: found it ...thanks google:

Its weird that the card activates 6 hours later. I guess its to stop the d-bags who complain and try to get them to take $20 off their game. I wanted to take advantage of their 2 $20 games for $30 deal, and now I might not make it back there.

TRU is a hike for me, while BB is just down the street. I'm going to print out the ad from the TRU website and hope that works for me for the price match. Got a copy of the in-store price match policy on me too.

I ran at lunch to the TRU in Joliet, IL to pick up 2 copies of RE5 PS3 for myself and a friend. They informed me that they could only issue one GC per purchase. However, the cashier applied the forthcoming buy 2 get 1 $20 off sale to my purchase, so I was still able to get 2 copies for $106 plus the $20 GC ($86 total for both).

I was also informed by the cashier that the gift card would not activate for 6 hrs.

While I wholeheartedly agree with that line of thought, when I tried (twice, with different people) that tactic last time they had a deal with Street Fighter IV and I wanted the CE version, I got completely shot down. And that ad didn't actually list any item numbers or define which version was eligible, unlike this ad which lists the standard edition SKU by number specifically. I won't even bother to try it at my store, but of course YMMV.

For anyone attempting to match TRU's RE5 deal at Best Buy, I tried it earlier and got shot down. The customer service rep told me, "Best Buy as a company has decided not to match ToysRUs' offer on this game". The guy basically said TRU had a great deal and to go buy it there, so I left and did exactly that. Figured it really wasn't worth much more effort to give BestBuy my money, though I would have prefered to get the game for $40+tax and remove the whole gift card thing from the equation.

Had I known they'd shoot down the price match, though, I may have just got it from Gamefly and had less money out of pocket.

1. Picked up Gears of War 2 on the release day and received a free gift card.
2. Used that gift card to purchase Call of Duty World at War and received another free gift card.
3. Used that gift card towards RE5 purchase and received another giftcard :)

Toys R Us has had some great deals these past few months... not to mention Rock Band 2 Special Edition for 109 with another gift card around Christmas time. Love it!!

Champaign, IL Best Buy gave me the $20 GC with purchase. Service desk said others had done the same but I would bring their policy and TRU ad just in case.

I got shot down too, initially, by the same girl who always gives me a hard time at customer service for price-matching. I then decided to ask/complain to the Customer Experience Manager. He said they supposedly don't price-match Gift Cards (despite the fact I've done this at least twice at this store in the past year) but only prices. He decided they'd honor the deal and just tell the customer service girl to talk to him. I head back to customer service and the same girl still doesn't want to do it and asks the higher ranked Customer Service Manager girl about it who said, "Yeah, we're price-matching the gift card at TRU." So, since it was too complicated to do the gift card they just took $20 off the game and asked if that was OK with me.....damn right it was OK!

So, if you get shot down don't give up so easily but also don't be rude and talk nicely to the people despite how shitty they talk to/treat you.

Went to my local Best Buy and price matched the RE5 GC deal from Toys R Us. At first it took a little convincing by quoting the pricematching policy at them. Eventually the cashier got the manager, they took $20 off the game, and just charged me for the gift card. I'm not complaining. A $20 BB GC and RE5 for only $62 out the door.

Wait... So do you only get the gift card if you buy RE5 in store or can you buy it on the Internet and they send you the gift card in the mail?

Pretty sure you need to price match in store.

I'm so glad I didn't stay up after work to snag a copy. For those in or near the Akron, Ohio area the TRU in Cuyahoga Falls Plaza (across from Target & Best Buy) had a few as of 2:30 - 3:00-ish today.

I also had a HUGE issue not getting BB to do the PM, I got into an argument, even though they have matched GC offers like this from TRU before at this very store. The manager refused, but did offer me 10 off, I said no, asked her to call the HQ, she didn't want to but I did, on their phone.. it took 15 minutes, but the person I got on the phone, her name was WHITNEY, I explained everything, she wasn't sure, I told her to look at the website, told her I was @ the store, and she then finally said she was gonna process a $20 refund to my credit card once my purchase showed up in her system, and said she didn't know why the manager just didn't do it, IT WAS IN PLAIN ENGLISH. BTW, the store I went to was the BB in Hartsdale, NY (westchester county).. what a nightmare. I am not opening the game yet, and will see if my refund is actually processed. I also made sure I got what they call a "case #" and her name.

I then went over to the manager and told her that they were processing my refund for 20, and that they would notify the store manager (which she said was her, but I don't even think that was true).

wow none of the TRU by me have RE5 for the PS3 in stock. This is ridiculous!

If I PM to BB for the XBOX 360 version what's the possibility of exchanging it for the PS3 version? Or can I PM even though it's out of stock? Ah I was supposed to pick up RE tonight for me and my bud.

Best Buy price matched the RE5 deal without any real trouble, that is, they gave me a $20 GC... sure, the girl I talked to had to contact one or two other people, but there wasn't any real hassle besides waiting. I just went in with a nearby (well, 20 minutes away) Toys'R'Us phone number and told them it was a brick and mortar deal... they didn't call or anything, but I figure it helped.

Best Buy matched the TRU RE5 deal with a $20 GC of their own with no hassle. Can't complain, TRU is on the other side of town and I'd rather have a Best Buy GC. 8-)

Got RE5 at TRU today. They were almost cleaned out at lunchtime. I used the $20 gift card I got for The Force Unleashed and then got another $20 gift card which will probably stay in my bathroom drawer for another 6 months.

You should have brought a printout of their PM policy. My BB tried to shoot me down at first, then I showed them their own PM policy regarding gift cards. They read it, then gave me $20 off. Don't let them treat you like you're scamming them just for having them follow their own rules.

yeah I'm going to do that tomorrow. What's stupid is I called before and spoke to some guy who said they will PM as long as they could look up the deal at TRU's website. When I got there, the lady working at customer service said they didn't PM or honor gift cards. I forgot to mention what the guy told me earlier so I left.

well i got shot down today at BB again. The BB's around me are pure crap they flat out refused to honor the PM unless I had the TRU ad in hand. I didn't have one because I didn't see any ads when I was there yesterday. I spoke to the assistant manager as well and she wouldn't budge...I think they're really stupid, they claimed they didn't see the $20 gc offer in the TRU ad online. Either that's BS or they're idiots who can't navigate the TRU site. I should've printed the TRU ad myself but unfornately I wasted 15 mins talking and waiting for them to look it up.

I guess I'll wait for it to go on sale some other time.

Just got back from Best Buy (West Los Angeles). Was planning on getting RE 5 anyways. Had previously been shot down at another BB (Westwood).

One of the floor employees who grabbed the game for me was going to ring me up. Anyhow, I asked him if I could PM a giftcard deal and he said that he just needed to see the ad. I tried to get him to pull up Toysrus.com to view the weekly ad but the computer he was using did not have flash player 9 installed -_-. It was closing time so I didn't really care too much to press the issue since I was going to buy the game either way.

Doh...oh well. Next time I need to come prepared. That or Apple needs to update the stupid iPhone to have some kind of flash support! Hopefully its in 3.0 :P

I called my local BB yesterday morning asking if they would PM TRU but got rejected. The employee I spoke to knew about the TRU deal but didn't know if gift cards could be pricematch. After coming back from speaking to her manager she explained BB doesn't PM deals such as gift cards, B1G1, clearance, etc...

I could have easily countered this by presenting/reading the store policy. Problem is, I also called TRU and they actually sold out of RE5 on Friday. Most likely, BB would have called TRU to make sure they still had stock and I would have still been denied.

Damn...it would have been the perfect item to use my $25 gc too :(
