Yeah, this is pretty much my main question. I know squat about monitors.

My question also. Is there a cheap way to connect my Xbox 360 to this (other than buying the official VGA cable)? And also a noob question: Am I going to have to have some sort of speakers or can I get audio from this moniter?

EDIT: Would this work?

I use a DVI to HDMI cable that runs to a HDMI Switch that connects my 360 and PS3.
For sound you'll need speakers and some innovation, my set up is overly complicated for the sound.

I'm still waiting for my in-store pickup email, one way or another. At the time it was showing available in most of my local stores, but now it's all unavailable. I got my first email at 1:56pm, and it says:

Store Pickup
Before going to the store, please wait to receive your store pickup notification e-mail. This e-mail arrives within 45 minutes* on average, and confirms that your product is in stock and available for pickup. Your credit card will not be charged until we confirm store availability.

Still haven't received another email yet, but no loss, no gain if I don't get the monitor. I'll update this thread if/when I get another email.

hdmi-to-dvi on ps3 wont work because the monitor is required to support hdcp or the ps3 wont display at all. or so ive heard. all i know is my asus monitor supports it and it works. not sure if this one supports it since there are conflicting specs on bestbuy / cnet apparently.

Nice!

Sure! I plan on using it for my 360. As you can see in my sig, I stopped using my 360. I got an Acer HTPC last month, and I'm using a 19" Westinghouse LCD. I previously used it for my 360, and I don't feel like swapping back and forth, so the new monitor will be for the 360 (via 3rd party VGA).

yes, the 360 should work without hdcp according to this:

but, i read that netflix streaming requires it however.

pretty sure it was online only because a few minutes after i ordered it was back to $170 and then a few minutes later it wasn't being sold anymore. most best buy stores everywhere seemed to be out of stock. it is possible that it is because of it being an outlet item.

oh cool. it appears that it has 1:1 pixel mapping, so it doesn't stretch the 1080p image (i'm assuming that's the res you are playing it on). Unfortunately my ASUS supports 1080p (native 1680x1050 like this one) but it stretches it vertically to fill the full 16:10 screen. so needless to say the image looks weird. edit: wait you said vga, hmm, that might make a difference. ive only played ps3 on mine with a hdmi-to-dvi so i dont know what would happen with vga.

On a side note: fuck! i was doing some browsing about this monitor and i stumbled across a slickdeals page on this. or should i say 57 pages. most of the people in the thread bought one, but there were a lot and i mean a lot of people who bought 3 or more for flipping or whatever, but if this gets cancelled we have them to blame.

also want to point out that there were some people there who were able to buy online, pick up in store, and some who actually went to their local stores and paid $50 for it without ordering online. oh well, if this gets cancelled apparently we might get a $15 gift card for best buy since they said they got that with some error in pricing on a backpack.

I was just reading the slickdeals forums on this monitor as well. I couldn't believe how many pages there were. Unfortunately if you read far enough, there were many people who were already getting cancellation emails. I guess anything is possible, but the likelihood of anyone here getting their monitor shipped is probably next to nil. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The 360 has allowed resolution changes with a VGA connection (as opposed to the generic 720p/1080i/p options), and since the NXE, it has supported 1440x900, and 1680x1050 resolutions natively. (Which was a feature I was excited for, since my 19" is 1440x900, and I was previously stretching it at a lower resolution -- just wish the dashboard used the entire screen, but whatever.)

Side note, the 1920x1080 (WHAT, no 1920x1200? Silly Microsoft.) option does not work on this monitor, nor did I expect it to.

Actually they did send a lot of monitors out. Those that were not on back order actually received them. (just go see the SD forum on this if you don't believe me). However, everyone who was on backorder got theirs canceled. IMO I still dont think this was a price mistake (just a regular clearence) as it was advertised in two places on their site, they rang up in some stores as $50 without ordering online, and those who were not on backorder got them. Oh and they probably labelled it as a price mistake because otherwise they might of had to offer us a different monitor as substitution depending on their rules regarding backorder going out of stock. i still think the deal was legit but the thousand of SDers that bought 3 or more were the people who turned this into a little fiasco. Fell free to tell me what you guys think of the whole situation though.

On a side note: Mine unfortunatly got cancelled because it was backorderd.
