I was sitting here enjoying a bowl of New England style Clam Chowder, which is by far my favorite type of soup, and I got to wondering what other peoples favorite types of soup. So what is it?
For me, Clam Chowder is my favorite, but good Seafood Gumbo is a very close second.

Cool topic, considering the weather (well, here in CA)
I like to make soups so, if I may pick more than one...
1. French Onion soup (with lots of onions simmered in red wine and beef stock) with crusty french bread and melted swiss (gruyere) on top.
2. Gourmet Cream of Brocolli.. which is brocolli, a potato, an onion sweated in some butter and blended with chicken stock and a splash of heavy cream added at the end.
but actually my favorite, which I've never made, is currently Fresh Choices (don't laugh) Pho Noodle Bowl. Bean sprouts, cilantro jalepenos, lime juice, rooster sauce and delicious noodles in a light chicken broth. I like their version better than the authentic versions I've had in mom and pop shops.
I also love Clam Chowder... mmmm...

Baked Potato from Chili's. That stuff is a heart attack in a bowl. :)

Asian soups mostly, especially the ones they serve at lunch at chinese restaurants. Since they're of lighter texture, actually healthy, and are less likely to cause a heart attack.

Chili. Chili is the best soup.
If chili counts as soup, then definitely chili. If not I'll just go with vegetable.

Chili. Chili is the best soup.
This. There is liquid involved, and it's served in a bowl. It's soup, it's good, chili wins.

It's a tie between Clam Chowder and Broccoli and Cheddar. The latter wins if it's in a bread bowl.

My mom's minestrone, though I had some great caribou-related soups this summer that challenged for the title.This. There is liquid involved, and it's served in a bowl. It's soup, it's good, chili wins.Dammit, Modest, why'd you have to get here before me?

When I saw the thread title I instantly thought, "New England Clam Chowder!!!" But I wasn't going to post it cause I thought everyone hated it. Awesome that the first post agrees!
It is the best! Especially with crackers!!
Chili is a close second, but usually ends up with me feeling like crap. It's the best with a ton of graded cheese on top, chopped onions and sour cream...
Sweet god I want some.

If Chili counts, that's my choice. If Chili does not count, I can't think of anything other than New England Clam Chowder. I don't have the luxury of tasting all kinds of Western soups because of my Chinese heritage but I love the two mentioned.

Chili IS NOT soup.
If you can put it on a hot dog, it's pretty obvious it isn't soup.
