There is an awful lot of plurality in the wording of the rebate.
Receive a $20 EBGames mail-in gift voucher
when you purchase the following titles:

Mail the completed form along with the original EBgames.com packing list (dated September 17, 2004 to October 4, 2004) and the original proof of purchase (UPC code) from the boxes to:

This might be a silly question, but I don't understand why it is necessary for the mail in rebate. I mean, they sent us the game, so shouldn't they know that we bought it from them? Unless it's a way to get forgetful people to forget to do so.
dserafin1986
09-17-2004, 03:33 PM
They do the mail in rebate because industry wide numbers show that only about 50% of the people who buy products with mail-in rebates actually end up mailing them in...So it draws consumers to buy a product but doesn't actually cost them anything...Why would an EB rep be discussing a gamestop promotion??? I talked to the customer service rep at ebgames and she said you only have to buy ONE of the games, not both to receive the $20 voucher, so you can buy MP2 or VH and get $20 back, or you could buy both and get $40

That's funny. Around 11:00 I was browsing the EB site and saw that LotR and Max Payne had a link to a gift voucher. But the link was broken so I assumed it was a glitch. Guess I just hit the sale before it was official.

I don't understand why it is necessary for the mail in rebate
like someone mentioned above said, only 50% return them. Those who do send them in, it requires them to get something else with it, bringing them back into the store, or website in this case, allowing them to find more products, thus them buying more.
Calico
09-17-2004, 03:48 PM
50%... wow ... that's really a good rate of return. I'd have to think that everyone viewing this site will send them in. We'd all be returning for additional games anyways too.

romeogbs19
09-17-2004, 04:37 PM
No -- that's not been confirmed. Actually, I think they're going to say you need to buy both -- honestly, EBgames isn't stupid and they do reserve the right to nig/change the deal if in fact there was an error.
I think you need to buy both -- the notion of getting a $20 rebate on a $20 game sounds too good to be true in this case -- the rebate form sounds pretty clear to me -- buyt BOTH.

Ok now I'm totally confused. The first posted voucher is for $20 off either game. On that voucher nowhere does it say you can't use it with a 10% off discount. But on the new voucher link, the one that says "$10 voucher" it actually links to a new $20 voucher that says "either or" game, and "can't be used with any discount". I used the first voucher, because it was the first one posted, and used my 10% off Gamespot discount. Am I screwed or no?

^^ There's two links on the Max Payne (Xbox) web page. The first one does not say I can't use my discount with the voucher, but the second one does say I can't use the discount. I already ordered the game and it's gone through to ship, so I can't cancel and buy it again and not use my 10% discount. I'm just wondering if there going to take the first voucher link off and screw me by telling me I used my discount, therefore I'm ineligible.

A supervisor told me that as long as I printed out the voucher (the first $20 voucher for Max Payne 2 that is no longer on the website), and even though I used my Gamespot complete discount, they WILL honor the voucher. So anyone else who did this don't worry, as long as you printed out the mysterious vanishing voucher you'll be fine.

They took it down after they put up another voucher that said "cannont be combined with any other offers". So I guess they knew they screwed up, and forgot to say that in the first voucher, then took it down.

Something to note - not a huge deal, but after instant savings The Hobbit is only $5.00, not $10.00. And speaking from a review standpoint it's not the best game on the market, but more than worth the $5.00 if you enjoy adventure and platforming games.

PS2 Max Payne is $10 now. I normally wouldn't reccomend this game since I think the port is a crime to humanity but you still get a $20 MIR.

i emailed EBgames and was told that it is ok to just write down the UPC code and still get the deal, so now we don't have to worry about cutting up the case. I do have one question, though. If you purchase more tahn one of these games, how to get your voucher if they are all on the same invoice? Do I photocopy the invoice for each game and mail them seperate, or am I allowed to mail the vouchers in with just the one original invoice?

I ordered Alias xbox at 15 but when I saw it dropped to 10 I just called up and had them credit me back $5. They pricematch their own website and are usually pretty cool about it. I don't know if they'd do it if the game shipped already but since it hadn't it wasn't a problem at all.
