I tried to get a straight answer on that out of Pete Hines at E3 last year. I think the gist of it was that the Xbox 360 was getting exclusive content, but that that didn't mean the PS3 would never get anything. Just that it wouldn't get the stuff 360 did.

This is insanity, my backlog has considerably grown in the past three months and this is not helping. I am starting to become a game buyer rather than a gamer. I think I need to stop playing FIFA and move on to something else before it gets larger.

Well, if you're expecting a hardcore Final Fantasy-like RPG, it ain't that.
If you're expecting a FPS like Bioshock, it ain't that, neither.
If you're expecting "Oblivion with guns" . . . well, that's closer, but not really.

Here. Take Oblivion, a game I really enjoy. Use the same game engine, but add the VATS combat system (targeting of individual limbs, and your stats determine the hit, not your twitch skills). Crank the dialog options way, way up, and have your stats affect what you can say and how NPCs react. Move it into a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland setting, and add tons of individualized areas with stuff to find like computer entries of what people were doing right before the bombs dropped. Toss in some really big mutants, and some really, really kickass weapons to kill them with.

Then put on an ending that 90% of the people who play the game think just plain blows. (I disagree with them, by the way, but y'know, full disclosure.) You can't play beyond the ending, so you need to save before you get there, if you play the main quest at all (you certainly don't have to). The third DLC will change that, but that isn't coming to the PS3, at least not now.

That's Fallout 3. It's my favorite game, hands down.

I think most of the haters were in love with the first two Fallouts, and this didn't meet their expectations.

I hear you. My backlog is out of control. It seems like I do more reading about great games on the crapper (:hot: - there is your visual of the day) instead of actually playing. Being married and all and with my wife not being a gamer, my opportunities for a 2 hour session are few and far between.

That didn't stop me from buying Banjoo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts yesterday for $20 during that DOTD. Maybe if this was for 360 instead of PS3. I won both but rarely use the PS3 except for playing Blu-Rays.

If you also own a 360 and your backlog is huge you may want to wait until the DLC is included with the game this summer/fall.

This was, without a doubt, my game of the year. I spent over 100 hours on my first playthrough, and not a second of it felt like a grind.

I think the big question as to whether or not you'll enjoy it is how much do you enjoy free exploration in a game?. Those looking for an 8-10 hour "go here, shoot this, go here, shoot this" fps romp aren't gonna get their fix. Those who enjoy running around exploring new areas without any idea what's gonna be over the next hill are going to be blown away.

There's still a story to follow with objectives and whatnot, but if you don't run around and explore the Wasteland, you're only gonna see 5% of the content.

Here is a comparison of the PS3 version, the pre-patch 360 version and the current/post-patch 360 version.

Long story short, the PS3 version has much more aliasing/jaggies, but better detail and lighting in some textures. Pretty even trade I guess...

Great game, unfortunately the PS3 version has the lowest resolution, the worst framerate, no DLC, the lowest res textures, and the lowest possible special effects of all 3 versions. 360 is barely any better, the PC version on high settings looks like an entirely different game.

Anyone w/ a video card from 4 years ago or newer can easily play the PC version at higher settings than either console version.

It's a damn shame too because I really wanted this for my PS3, i just can't stomach it after playing the PC version

I just sold the 360 version after beating the main and all side quests. I loved it but need a break. I will pick up the PS3 version in a few months for around $20 or so and replay it for the trophies and experience again. This was the best game I have played in a LONG time - so much content and hilarious moments. For now, it's MLB the Show 09 for me!

If you have a PS3 but no PC gaming rig or 360 then this is a great deal!

I have this for PS3 and it's been sucking up the little free time I have available. Addictive as hell. The interesting thing is I wasn't too interested in it before. Only complaint is the infrequent freezing. That and I really wish they'd release the 3rd DLC for PS3... I'm already at the level cap and barely more than half done.

IGN and GameSpot gave the PS3 version a loewr score than the PC/360 version due to glitches, framerate problems, and worse graphics. I don't know if the patches have fixed that or not.

This is a great game, and a good price. I scored mine for 30 bucks "brand new" off eBay on the week of release. Some guy couldn't get past the GOAT bug, and wanted to get rid of it. Then it turned out he tried to return it to GameStop, and they wouldn't take it back. But they opened a brand new game and gave him that back ... so I got it brand new (but the shrink wrap taken off). Man I wish that cashback was still active at 25-30% :P

If I didn't already have it, I would be all over this :)

EDIT; I have this on PS3, and they definitely fixed some of the issues the game was having earlier on. I have never had a freeze up or anything ... most people must abuse their systems heavily. The only problem I had was the GOAT "freeze", which was on all systems I thought. As far as graphics ... you will never beat out a PC as far as graphics go ... ever. Plus the ability to use a Mouse and Keyboard make it far superior. I mainly got the PS3 version for the trophies, and the cheap price I found on eBay.

GOAT freeze... is that where you go take the test and nothing happens? My friend called me up the other night asking about that and I hadn't heard of it happening before.

I believe the main issue with the game was that it would freeze temporarily if you received a notification (friend coming online, etc). That was one of the fixes that came along with the trophy pack.
