Also located in Poland. After the Orange Box out of country key fiasco i think this isnt the best of ideas for people outside the EU.
Valve could disable it at any time citing that the key registered wasnt for sale in the US.

Quit fearmongering, the keys work fine. They even go so far as to say that they can be used in any region.
"This Steam Key enables you to activate and download the full PC version of Left 4 Dead through yor Steam account.
There are no territory limitations for the activation of this key."
14.44 is about right for a game that is primarily a multiplayer game.

Lol, you posted this a couple weeks ago in another thread I think.
Both my OB key and L4D are still working. Paid less for them than I would have renting them for 2 weeks.
Good deal, imo.

Anyone tried ordering from this website yet and received their CD keys? I went through the process of ordering and paid via paypal, but my transaction isn't showing up on my paypal account, and I'm wondering if I've missed a step somewhere.

I got in on this when it was posted at another site.
It took about 4h from ordering to get my keys and they're still working (2-3 weeks later now).
It's a gamble, sure, but if you get a decent amount of enjoyment from it before they lock it down... I know I've gotten my $15 out of it, and I've played but a few maps with some good friends. (It does seem to get old quick, though. IMHO, TF2 >> L4D.(

I purchased this a few days ago. The Paypal payment system isn't working right now so you have to send the cash to the email address on the main page (shady yes I know). Then I emailed them with the paypal transaction # and they got me my key in 30 minutes. Has been working fine so far.
I had also heard from one person who had their Orange Box key disabled that a few weeks later, it was working fine again, and he'd been playing since then without a problem. Either way, if this gets disabled, I'd have gotten my $14 worth of fun. It's entertaining but it's not something I think I could play for more than a few weeks.

b) it has happened in the past.
This is called a warning.

I was wary of Steam first too, but I use it now only because I have to; orange box. I think it's okay for people to still think this. I don't like DRM or licensed games, but if it has to be done, might as well be Steam. Kind of like saying, "I don't like driving, but if I have to, it might as well be with this car."

Yes. There are some good things about Steam and some bad things about Steam. One bad thing is that they're using their DRM to completely preclude any used game market for their own games.
I just bought a copy of Orange Box, and as soon as I opened it, it's value dropped from $29.99 to $0.00. Because of the DRM.
On the other hand, they let you download games from their servers, so.... it's a trade-off.
EDIT: Oh yeah, does anyone know if it matters if you put USA as your location for delivery on this site?

I received my key after 2 days as well, L4D is installed and working fine, it's a ton of fun online with other folks.
Basically to place an order, just add the game to your cart, then go through the normal checkout process. I selected Paypal, and went through the motions of completing my order. After going through Paypal and being directed back to a page that looks like everything is good to go, I noticed that it said my payment was not fulfilled yet, and when I checked Paypal it doesn't register a transaction.
At this point, I directly paypalled their email address listed under their help section (make sure you list the order number under the subject on the paypal payment), then went to my order number on their site and initiated a transaction with them and let them know I paypalled them the cash.
After about 36 hours I received the email, and was able to activate the game on Steam and am playing online right now!
PS. I selected the option that stated I was in the United States, and it went through without any issue.

It's the same reason why copies of Windows and commercial movie DVDs cost $3 in certain Asian countries. Companies do research to see what people are willing to pay for certain things in certain countries. In countries where piracy is rampant, or the economy is not suited to leisure items, they sell them for a low price because that's the best they can get away with. That's why L4D sells for $14 in Poland while in America it's three times that.

It is not pirating, one is just buying the game legally from another country. I do not see the problem with that. What if a person in Poland or Hong Kong moved to the USA and Valve deactivates their product? It is unfair for someone to buy something legally only to get deactivated.
bigdaddybruce44
03-09-2009, 12:00 AM
He didn't say its pirating. He said that the price is so low in other countries, because piracy is rampant around the globe, and companies are willing to sell their products for less, in hopes of discouraging pirating.
The fact of the matter is Valve owns the rights to these games, so if they want to deactivate codes bought outside of your country, they can, as long as its buried somewhere within their terms of service, which I'm sure it is. If it isn't, they would obviously get a class action suit filed against them.

You're kidding right? Once you activate this on your steam ID, you'll be able to download it again any time you want on any PC. In many ways, it's more convenient than having a disc. What's this about multiplayer only? Sure beats single player only games, if you ask me! In regards to the problems, well that's a risk you'll either be willing to take to save $35 or not. It's already worked for dozens of people, some who have been playing for over a month already. Will you get $14 worth of entertainment? Guess that depends on what kind of gamer you are.

This is a totally ignorant statement. Just because something is solely MP doesn't mean
A) It's worth less
B) It should cost less
C) It's not fun
Not to mention I will sometimes pay more for Steam games then I will for retail because of how excellent their service is.

SP-only games are pretty great, since that's all I care about. If a game is SP-only, that means no money was spent on a part of it that I'll never touch. I did buy L4D during the $25 sale, but I don't expect to spend much time with it. I'll probably play through each level once and then never touch it again, since I'll have seen what there is to see. Got a backlog of about 400 games to get through.

So you're saying TF2, BF2, L4D, and a whole list of other games aren't worth it simply because they don't have a single player component?

Team Fortress 2 has been $10 on two separate occassions and I haven't bought it. Not interested, even at $10. I actually have every other game from the Orange Box, except Team Fortress. I'd rather play games that have some semblance of progression. If I want countless matches of something (which is boring), I'll take up sports.
I bought L4D because the demo was fun, and at least it's set up so that I can play each level twice (once as survivor, once as zombie), and I'll feel like I got $25 worth. But TF2 and BG2 don't even offer that enticement, they way they're structured. I'm not going to buy them, play a match, and say, "That was fun, I mindlessly shot some dudes, look at my awesome score."

Not for nothing, but you're acting like every game of something like TF2 is exactly the same. It isn't. I played TF2 for quite some time on the 360. It was the most fun I had in gaming in a long time. For one, you have all the different classes, and it takes a long time to master each one. You also are going to play different classes and different players all the time, so your strategy always has to change. If you played TF2 games where all you had to do was "shoot some dudes," you were playing against the wrong players.

Still. Match-based multiplayer games are boring to me. If there isn't enough of a goal and a stopping point where I can put the game down and go on to the next one, they don't have me. With the backlog that I have, I need games that I can finish. It's more like I'm on a mission than just killing some time recreationally.
At least in L4D there's the same progression-based goal of most single-player games: get to the end, don't die. The fact that your companions can be controlled by other human beings is a moot point, and it remains the exception.
