View Full Version : Any Differences between RE5 on PS3 or 360

Anyone know any significant differences between the 2 (besides the obvious, controller/xbl vs psn/etc...)
Just checked the IGN review, and they didn't mention much, so just trying to see if anyone's got more info or if there really isn't much difference at all.
Hmm guess I answered my question by lookin up gamefaqs

Well the 360 version has all the built-in advantages of being on 360. ie; Live, Achievements, better controller, etc, etc.

To spin the other way, I could say get the Ps3 version because of trophies, knowing your system wont crap out on you in the middle of the game, and also not having to have the sound turned up full blast to drown out the sound of the 360 :bouncy:

Really... I'd rather have another game each year than pay for live each year. So that cancels that "advantage" and puts it in the PS3 side. I could care less about meaningless achievements or trophies, and there really is no difference now. PS3 has the better controller, especially the dpad and more sensitize analog sticks, it also holds charges longer. Also those who played previous RE, will enjoy using the same type of controller for 5. I don't know what the etc etc refers to, I would say nothing. PS3 allows you to back up your save files and has better reliability so there's another plus to getting it on PS3, you'll never have to worry about losing saves ever.

Doesn't sound like any of those will make a difference with this game.

I would just buy it for which ever console your friends have. I wouldn't even think about playing this game by myself since you would then have a borderline retarded bot following you everywhere blowing through all of your ammo. The split screen isn't much better with a good quarter of the screen being completely unused.
As far as actual differences go MarkMan named the only ones I know of.

Not necessarily as people may have only played RE games on the Dreamcast and/or Gamecube/Wii.
But that's just personal preference. I've always hated the dual shock controllers as I prefer the offset analog stick set up and a larger controller.

Actually, I've only had one juvenile fucktard, but he didn't call anyone gay, he just sat on the mic and spamed it going "blblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblblb" for about 20 strait minutes in Burnout.
Playing Resistance 2, there were a couple of people that had their music blaring over their mics... that was annoying.

some of my scariest gaming moments came from trying to get the hang of the controlls in re2.going from the n64 to using a ps1 took some getting used to and that was the wrong game to choose for my first ps1 game. took me a long time to play it and finish because i could only handle it in 10 to 20 minute spurts. i always wished i could have played the version of that game where your clothes took damage over time. hell id like to play the original concept for re4 too.

All I'll say is that the demo for me personally was really distracting to play. On my 40" Sammy I had lots of screen tear. Hopefully this will not be as prevalent in the full version!
Anybody else had this issue?

The original RE (and the director's cut, for that matter), in retrospect, had horrid controls, groundbreaking as it was. I can't tell you how many times I ate it in that game because of the bad controls. It was funny when they put out the Director's Cut, and it had Dual Shock control, and it was no better. In fact, I don't think they got the control system down well until Code Veronica on the DC...

I never had problems with the controls. I got used to it in RE 1 after about 20 minutes of play or so. I definitely see why the controls were the way they were, so you could do the moonwalk for instance to back up during fights.

From the analysis they showed on the footage, the 360 almost never dips below 30fps while the PS3 dips to 28fps quite frequently. Every once in a while it dips to 26fps. Just saying what I saw in the footage on there and what I read.
There's some cleverly crafted wording in that article if you look close enough.
Interesting the techniques that are used... if it's similar to Killzone 2, then I can't say I notice it in action. Then again, I'm not sitting point blank at my TV with a tool that shows the screen at 200%.

I actually got a PS3 to get away from the idiocy of the average 360 owner. I still play on the 360 some frequency as I bum my cousins 360, but I can in all honesty say the PSN group is far more mature and far more sane then the live community. 90% of insults I see and hear are from Live. This is most likely because they give everyone a mic and mic + internets + general secrecy = SHITFUCKCUNTASSGAY$$$TWATYOU or the fucktard complex. The PSN service may not have as many mic users, and I'm glad for that. Though I have met my share of idiots on PSN "Mostly from Home" But the worst idiot on PSN is about the average idiot on live. AND THAT is the TROOF.

The only difference between the two you'll notice is the slight framerate drop in hectic scenes that the PS3 experiences.
This, in my opinion, is countered by the loudness of the 360 during operation. If you install the game to the hard-drive, this is nullified.
Honestly, if you have gold live and most of the people you know getting it are 360 players, get it for 360. If you know mostly PS3 owners who will be playing it and/or you're kind of flaky on paying for Live like I am, get it for PS3. Don't concern yourself with the graphics differences because I can assure you, Capcom is a multi-million dollar corporation. They did what they could to the best of their abilities to make the game look and run great on both systems. Expect it to be like the SF4 differences. Graphics are slightly better on 360, but I'll be damned if I ever saw a difference.
Playing SF4 on PS3, the only difference I noticed was the longer loading time during the Versus splash on the PS3. Other than that, they looked exactly the same.

It's just preference, nothing to with hand size. And if it did you'd have it backwards as the tiny dual shock should be more comfortable for kids and people with small hands! Most sony fans who bash people for liking the 360 controller better say those people must have giant ape hands or something. :D
I think the offset anlog sticks feel more naturally--mainly the placement of the left stick. The sticks being convex rather than concave keeps my thumbs from slipping off as much. The triggers are much better shoulder buttons for shooters. Face buttons are fine on both.
Most importantly the 360 pad is just more ergonomic and feels better in my hands. I've never liked the dual shock--PS1 and PS2 where my most played consoles the past two gens so it's useable for sure.
But I much prefer the 360, it's easily my favorite controller I've used in my 25 years or so of gaming. But it's definitely a to each their own thing.

^Yeah. I like the offset analog sticks better too. When I got my PS3 I was wishing I could use my 360 controller for it somehow (which is now a possibility) because of that. But I got used to the ps3s analog sticks. I also like the 360 triggers better because they curve up keeping slipping off less of a possibility. But I like how the PS3 triggers and r1 and l1 buttons are all pressure sensitive. Like for zooming and stuff, it's neat but only really noticeable in MGS4 when choking people and stuff.

2 difference I've heard of.
EuroGamer said that the textures in the PS3 version were a little more jagged, although they only noticed it after zooming in 200%...so I think that to the average person you're never going to notice it.
The big difference for me though is that I've heard that the PS3 version requires a mandatory 5GB install to your hard drive. The 360 version will not, although I imagine for the sake of faster loading I'll probably install it.

Installing a second OS on the PS3 isn't hacking it...You just go to the system menu and select "Install new OS"
It's an advertised feature.
Secondly, you don't have to do that, you can make the controller by replacing the 360 controllers guts

for people that care enough.
But I definitely prefer the PS3 controller for the d-pad and less cramped buttons.
edit: for the record, I do own both systems, so, I have experience with both controllers :P . I just usually go with PS3 for games because I don't use Live, for in true cheapassgamer form, I refuse to pay for a wireless adapter or online service when I can just use PSN for free. youre joking right? the gc was one of the worst controllers ever ( just under the original xbox crayon box with buttons). i hated that yellow stick dealy and that gay button ( the one above the r button) damn thing always threw me off. i loved the n64 controller though . the 360 controller does have better should buttons ( i hate how sensitive r2 is on the ds3) but aside from that theres not much else i think it has over a ds3 aside from being able to use it with a pc.

i hope they let you use a damn chainsaw. thats one weapon they need to add and to go for bonus points you should be able to use it in one hand and a shotgun in another.
thats one thing i loved silent hill 1 for all those cool extra hidden weapons and the multi endings. that laser gun was the shit.

Stole From GAF.
Wow, Capcom sucks dick at ports.
K, i'll get 360 version. But, my 360's HDD is way to small and it runs way to slow... and all my friends are on the PS3.
BUT, I don't think I am going to get RE5 so soon after launch. I didn't really enjoy the demo - Left 4 Dead has spoiled me with it's zombie-ness...

Without him, any multiplatform game from capcom will always triumph on the 360.

true that.
I think I'm gonna go with the 360 (despite the wind tunnel noise and risk of RROD). I was split because I had friends getting it for either system, but I guess the 360 controller + slightly better performance tilted. Thanks for the links guys.

From the analysis they showed on the footage, the 360 almost never dips below 30fps while the PS3 dips to 28fps quite frequently. Every once in a while it dips to 26fps. Just saying what I saw in the footage on there and what I read.
Ugh so what Capcom did is they made this game engine that lets them have a free PC game out of developing the console titles for each game that uses that engine. Which is stupid because the PC versions will just get pirated. So console players get the shaft so people can pirate.
I really wish they would just tone the graphics down a hair so that the 360 cinematics look fine and the PS3 framerate is stable, more than I care about how pretty the game looks. Getting jarred from the experience by tearing or unstable framerate is worse, it takes you out of the game and into what was that territory.
Dreamcast had THREE Resident Evil titles: 2, 3, and CV. Regardless, why would it matter if they were played on a previous console? Half of the RE games came out on other platforms before making their way to Sony's machines.
Sorry I forgot that DC had 3 RE games not 1. The point I was trying to make is that most people have played the past RE games mostly with PS style controllers. Half of the RE games did not come out on other platforms before making their way to Sony machines. The series debuted on PS and sold a lot better on PS machines than any other platform, and every main game and the majority of side games were on PS. RE 2 and 3 did not sell much on DC, they were late ports.
Why would it matter if they were played on a previous console? Because we were talking about which controller people would prefer for RE 5 earlier. And I've heard many times on message boards that people enjoy using the same type of controller for future games in a series that they used for earlier games in a series. I was just saying those who played previous RE on PS consoles will enjoy using DS3 for 5.
the 360 controller does have better should buttons ( i hate how sensitive r2 is on the ds3) but aside from that theres not much else i think it has over a ds3 aside from being able to use it with a pc.
You can use PS3 controller with PC too, and its free too.

Like most games nowadays, you'll only ever notice a difference when sitting and staring at screenshots.
Is there some master list somewhere on which version of multiplatform games are better? I know for most games it will come out even but there are few which is better on one particular system.
