The Fifth Annual CAG NCAA March Madness Contest (Winning Scenarios in Post #266)

I've got a few games to add to the prize pool, along with maybe a few more that I may be getting soon, and maybe some donated games from generous CAGs as long as they're new and sealed or mint and complete if they're used, meaning that they look like they've only had the plastic ripped off with little to no scratches on the disc, (if you'd like to donate games, please PM me). This contest will be conducted through Yahoo's Tourney Pick-'em set-up, which streamlines the process and just lets everyone worry about their picks. Right now, the tourney itself is still being set up and will be set in stone on Selection Sunday (check out ESPN or whoever else that's doing coverage). However, in the meanwhile, you can sign up and join the CAG group to reserve your spot. The deadline to get your picks in is five minutes before the first game starts on Thursday, March 19.

Entry Guide: Just head to here (http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men) to create your pick set and then go here (http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men/register/joinprivategroup) and enter the group ID# (68685) and password (cheapyd) to sign up and join the group. The only thing I require of you is to post here if your pick set name or yahoo ID doesn't match your CAG ID so that I know it's you.

If I see people who haven't done this come Wednesday night (March 18), you will be booted. Last year, Yahoo started allowing people to join groups after the tipoff, so if I kick you during the final check just before tipoff, or you were not in at this point, and you join again, you will be banned from the group to prevent that from happening again. I have a list of everyone involved, so you have to be on the list to be eligible to win. I will make a check on the list to line up everyone the night before tipoff and boot anyone I cannot link to a CAG username, so you will have a chance to get back in if you let me know who you are. I will make the final sweep just before tipoff and kick any stragglers left on the list. I also have the ability to alter the rules if other changes to Yahoo's Tourney rules have been made that interfere with the ones for the contest. The group can hold up to 500 people, so I think we'll have enough for anyone that wants to join. If we do reach that total, I'll create a new group for the rest of the CAGs that want to enter.

I will probably pick winners the same way I did last year: the top 3 scorers will get prizes. Depending on how many prizes there are, the top winner will get first pick on the list, then second place, and third place gets what's left.

I wish the BCS ruled college Basketball. Can you imagine having 32 "bowl" type games and have only a game to decide the national champion. So the bowls would be:

After the incredible game he had against Duke in the tourney a couple years ago, I was really pulling for Maynor to hit that final shot at the buzzer for the win. That had to be a heart breaking moment. VCU lived up to their billing as the chic pick for teh upset, and that was probably one of the two best games of today (along with Cal St Northridge vs Memphis).

Ugh. I hope the first round doesn't stay this tame tomorrow. I can't remember who said it earlier, but someone stated that wake can play like one of the best teams in the country at times, and be god awful at others. I hope they "play badly" tomorrow and have a tight game with Cleveland St. A 5-12 doesn't have the same excitement it used to anymore as there are some cases where the 12 is actually the superior team, albeit from a smaller conference. However, if a 13, 14, or a 15 wins in a tight game, that game will still have a magical feel about it.

I'm currently sitting ugly in the 9-way tie for 2nd place. Ugly meaning that I've already lost far too many of my Sweet Sixteen teams to really hold my position. I'm disappointed in myself for picking Wake over Cleveland state because I didn't like seeing a 12 and 13 playing in the second round and in picking Washington to lose in the first round at the last moment. The other picks I missed I honestly didn't see happening (though I should have with Dayton over West Virgina) so I can't be too disappointed in those.

I think a ton of brackets would go down in flames if LSU beats UNC...The vast majority of people have UNC getting to at least the final 4. Around half the brackets I have seen (mine included) have UNC winning it all.

Wow, Maryland is getting their ass kicked. I'll eat some humble pie if memphis wins this game. I thought they lost too much talent from last year, and I wasn't too impressed with them what little I saw of them. Derek Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts were nasty last year. I had Maryland going to the elite eight -_-. I guess there's still plenty of basketball still to be had...but atm, things don't look too good for me.

:rofl: I'm in 130th place - by far the worst I've ever done in this thing. But there's still hope. If all my later picks work out I win by 22 points.

Of course I'm counting on a lot of crap to go down for that to happen. I have Missouri in the championship game for example. I came in third place a few years back by riding UCLA nearly all the way and that helped me stand out from the crowd. Missouri is my choice this year (no particular reason - just had to pick one).

I also have Oklahoma beating North Carolina and a few other upsets in there still to come.

It didn't help that in the early rounds I counted pretty heavily on the Pac-10, EXCEPT for damn Arizona. They ALWAYS screw me up. When I pick them they lose first round. When I don't they go far. Damn them to hell. I knew they had a good draw though (and, for example, Cal got hosed though they beat AZ twice and had a higher seed). Except for Arizona and Arizona State (which I got right) I had all the Pac-10 teams winning one more game than they did so that cost me some points. But I had them all out after the Sweet 16 so unless Arizona continues to hose me I may yet recover.

All my potential Elite 8 teams are still alive, so there's definitely hope.

Ugh. This year's tourney has been dominated by chalk. So disappointing. Hope for a more enjoyable tourney next year. This was a great tournament of what-ifs with little payoffs:

1) If only ETSU/OK St had beaten Pitt
2) If only Sienna had beaten Louisville
3) If only Cal St. Northridge had beaten Memphis
4) If only no big ten and big twelve teams had made it to the sweet sixteen...I jest o_O

Oh well, at least some potentially great games coming next week. I've had my eye on the Duke vs 'Nova game ever since the brackets hit.
